Stepbrother of Richard "Beebo" Russell talks about stolen plane incident

- Danny Punturo is the stepbrother of Richard "Beebo" Russell. He talked to NBC about Beebo's life and infamous demise after the airport worker crashed a commercial plane he stole from Sea-Tac International Airport.
Posthumously given his pilot's license..... Captain Richard Russell. For a couple of minutes he was truly free more than any of us would ever be.
You can get a pilots license and rent planes
You are that free now. I would not recommend it, but you are that free. However, ponder this... given your new information of how free you are what are you going to do with it? Continue life the way you have, or will you take a leap and shoot for the moon? Even if you miss you get the stars. If you won't, maybe you don't deserve the freedom you have and should give up, there is surely someone with ambitions for good waiting for their chance. If you are not helping with the climb you are part of the load.
Shortythepresident What? If he was posthumously given his pilot’s license, that was the wrong thing to do!
I'm always surprised by people talking nonsense and a couple of hunderd people like that....... "For a couple of minutes he was truly free more than any of us would ever be."

No. He just saw the world as it really is. This is what happens when a person sees things as they are. Unfortunately, everyone else is eating Prozac in order to drown it out

@Eric Bowman "Chalk it up to minimum wage" is what Beebo said. My understanding is he was making $12 an hour working outside in the rain while people flipping burgers inside the airport were getting the mandatory minimum wage of $15 an hour. Alaska airlines threatened to move their operations elsewhere if they were forced to pay employees the new minimum wage. My guess is he had enough of being shit on by a multimillion dollar corporation and finally snapped. Rich the wage slave some call him. That’s the thing about mental health...A person can pull off looking happy and normal to everyone around them but at the same time harbor a lot of pain inside. They get to the point where they bottle it up so much that it eventually explodes and things like this happen. It’s a terrible thing to see such a genuine good guy take his own life like this. On the bright side he will go down in the history books as the “Sky King” Richard Russel, formerly known as Beebo. The one guy that actually pulled a barrel roll in a regional Dash-8. It’s just a shame that another good person had to die because there was no help for them.
@R H Exactly, he suffered from the admirable trait of caring about other people. You hear it right to the end, he's concerned with not ruining other people's day...these are the people who you won't know are depressed until it's too late, they don't want to bring you down with their problems, and they're right, you would be annoyed by their problems. It's heart-breaking when a family member states that he had NO reason to think that Richard "Beebo" Russell was having issues of any kind.
How sad that must have been for the family of this man, and his wife. I hope she somehow finds peace and moves on with her life. Richard Russell sounded like a good guy with some issues that his family had no clue of at all.

To his wife, Just remember the good times. Don't remember this day that he took his life. I'm so sorry.

Sometimes you’re just done with life. Suicide is not as bad as people make it out to be. My little brother killed himself a decade ago and it changed my whole view on the topic. If you feel as if everyday is a true struggle… rather it be financially or health wise then sometimes death is true peace. And since not all of us are religious then choose the best way to leave this planet. And this guy chose an awesome way out!! True legend.
The problem is "no man is an island" the love ones left behind are heart broken and carry the pain for life. Then crashing a $32 million plane will cost others pain by financial issues. the cost is always passed on to other customer since ins. corps are for profit and share the cost with others. Too bad , somebody could have noticed and got him some help.
I just watched the ABC news reel about this and commented about what I heard in his voice. The acceptance and the liberation and freedom that came from acceptance. I cannot imagine how painful this must have been for this brother and his family. And like he said the way his brother sounded must make it hurt that much worse knowing his brother was suffering so much and he didn’t know.

Such a sad loss, RIP bro
This story fascinates me. I don't believe he was crazy or even unstable. To be able to methodically learn how to fly via simulator, then to plan intricate maneuvers.. it takes a presence of mind that few people have. It's clear to me that he knew it would be his last day. He knew it, meticulously planned it, and was ready.
