Can't tell you how many times I danced to this angel. So happy that I grew up in this age and my older siblings age of music. When we came together in celebration of family and marriages. I had 9 sisters. We were a family in the tradition of groups like "Sister Sledge". My older sister Debbie was a disco dancer competitor, and teacher. I found my groove through her and her now husband of 40 years my brother in law Michael. They were brilliant in the 70 s. Thelma was one of the artists they danced to the championship with. Finally you do this song! This was such a big hit in 1976. Another big disco hit from that year that has sort of a similar rhythm is Diana Ross's "Love Hangover." And the way she's dressed, that wasn't considered dowdy or plain at the time. It looks that way to us now because we've forgotten or don't know what was fashionable at that time. Those blousy, earthtone tops and narrow-leg jeans (called cigarette-leg at the time) were the height of fashion. It was a very casual time. Y'all have probably noticed in the dance footage you've watched from the disco era that you don't really see many platform shoes or sequins. Women in particular at this time dressed in loose, flowing tops kinda like this.
Reminds me of Star Search (Gen X’s AGT). This was a song I saw everyone slow-fast dance to when I was a child. One vivid memory is this song being played during the skating rink games: speed skate, backwards skate, corner-out and obstacle skate, with the limbo and the hokie pokie thrown in before or after.
