Plain and simple "The Stylistics" are one of the best groups ever. They should be in everyone's top 10 easily...
Yes!!! 👍
I'll second that!!!
You can’t compare eras or types of music fairly. But for what they do they are fantastic.
They should be in rock n roll hall ahead of the spinners and kool and the gang!
Dramatics are also underrated!
Jay & Amber, you'll love their "You Make Me Feel Brand New" and "Break Up to Make Up" !!!! (for your 3rd and 4th The Stylistics songs)
For sure they will love these songs! 😊
Yup!
Go with these suggestions guys great tracks.❤
Yesssssssss Timeless Classic Hits
Betcha by golly, wow
“I’m Stone in Love with You” is my favorite Stylistics song
For some reason I almost know that song
by heart
In my country 'I can't give you anything but my love' was heard on most saturdays
I think they reacted to that one already. I could be wrong tho.
my favorite song too growing up
@@yw1971 I Can't Give You Anything But My Love was their only number 1 single in the UK,at the late end of the summer of 1975. A year or so before that You Make Me Feel Brand New was huge but kept off the top by The Three Degrees' only UK number 1 single,When Will I See You Again.
The Stylistics were the embodiment of the *Philly Sound.* No mistaking it for the *Motown Sound.* Both excellent, but different.
The Stylistics was the original and yes Marvin Gaye dueted with Diana Ross on their rendition of this song ❤
You can’t go wrong with 70’s soul music. Congratulations on your daughter’s achievement. My eight year old granddaughter just played Beauty and the Beast on piano at her school concert
How great for you and your granddaughter!
Congratulations,all!
Congratulations!! I so messed up on my first (and only) piano solo. Will never play in public again. I can't even play in front of ANYONE!
70’s Soul music was just so great. Nothing today comes anywhere close. We had so many great R&B artists to listen to. There will never be another decade like the ‘70’s music. Period.
The Stylistics version came first. Between the Stylistics and the Delfonics you had two of the best falsetto-lead groups of the early 70's.
Absolutely. Two of my favorite 70's groups.
I saw a few Stylistics outdoor concerts in Brooklyn and Russell Thompson Jr has an amazing voice and he 100% sounds exactly the same as he does on studio albums.
and the Chi-Lites, Spinners, O'Jays, Dramatics, Blue Notes, Blue Magic, Main Ingredient, Undisputed Truth, Bloodstone...
You might want to add the Dramatic's to that list
I love the Delfonics
This is why nothing beats 1970’s R&B and R&R
TRUTH
You can say that again.
This music needs to come back
One of the greatest RnB bands ever.
Sooo many hits!
Sad part they are not in the HOF Rock and Roll
Russell Thompkins Jr. on lead vocal. He was awesome...what a voice. #9 in 1971.
I love the Stylistics. Always have. I'm 67 and still love the songs!! Takes me back for sure.
Russell thompkin one of the greatest falsetto in the business. God's blessing to the Robinson family 😊❤
The magic of Thom Bell and The Philly Sound had such a great run with The Delfonics, The Spinners and The Stylistics and even New York City. Props also to Philly'S Linda Creed for writing all those awesome lyrics.
You Make Me Feel Brand New by the Stylistics, that's the one you need to hear!
Love that song!
That should be next
Heard a couple of singers on club scene who did both bass and falsetto parts amazingly well
💜 Absolutely! One of THE finest love songs ever! 💜
"You Make Me Feel Brand New" is another one of their biggest hits.
My absolute favourite Stylistics song is You Make Me Feel Brand New, beautiful voices.
This song and several others were written by Thom Bell and Linda Creed, both of whom have passed away. RIP.
Congrats to your daughter! Oh man, The Stylistics were everywhere on the radio in the early 70s. Brings back fond childhood memories.
@Kelly. Whenever I hear this song now, it reminds me of the scene in the Wonder Years TV show, where Kevin and Winnie are slow dancing to this song at the high school dance. 😊
@@oldiesgeek454omggg! I was literally just thinking about that scene!
@@sandrahernandez569 How about that! Great minds think alike. One of my favorite scenes from one of my favorite shows. 😊 👍
@oldiesgeek454 I literally had to look it up and watched it Twice! Reminds me So much of a high school dance w my then crush who really resembled "Kevin" haha.. Great minds DO think alike!
Your thirteen and at a sock hop dance. And you're waiting. For this song . As it starts you summon your courage as you ask the girl that you would die for to slow dance...she says yes. You hold her. You smell her. Cheek to cheek. Both carried away on the velvet tones of these masters. Much love.
This version IS the original!!
Russell Thompkins Jnr's falsetto lead vocals are AMAZING!!!!
Yesss 👍
You'll Never Get to Heaven if you Break my Heart is a fab Stylistics track. I fell in love with Paul Hibbert when I was 17. He used to sing that song to me 😊❤. Circumstance was not on our side and we broke up. We lived hundreds of miles apart and yet sometimes we would just bump into each other. Every time that happened it seemed nothing had changed. The love was there even though we couldn't be together. Time passed and I learned we would never bump into each other again. He died young. It was an unexpected ending. Listening to anything by the Stylistics reminds me of him. I listen to the track I mentioned often and I still miss him.
Now this is old-school soul
Wow! No one does it like the Stylistics! 😊
The message in this song, just isn't written as beautiful as this anymore.
Russell Thompkins jr had the smoothest voice. This group solidified 70's ballads
You can’t go wrong with any Stylistics song. It’s still awesome listening to their music over 50+ years later.
Lead singer Russell Thompkins Jr. has one of the best falsetto voices ever. Other great Stylistics songs:
People Make the World Go Round
Break Up to Make Up
Stone in Love with You
Country Living
You're a Big Girl Now
Ebony Eyes
Congratulations to your daughter! Great accomplishment moving up a level. Stylistics were the original singers
“People Make the World Go Round” not just my favorite stylistics song, but one of my all-time favorite songs period.
Congratulations to both of your daughtersI Amber wou,d really get into the lyrics of this song.
Used as the opening credits music for Spike Lee's film Crooklyn, which I think these two would get a kick out of
Mine too!
I realized that there is an edited version and an album version (with the instrumental on the end) ... editing that song was a crime. The full version is just a dream ....
@@TheDudeFromFairfax-tw2rz Yeah they did that a lot back then (especially the 70’s) so that radio stations could play it.
"People Make the World Go Round", "Rock and Roll Baby", and "Stone in Love With You" are other big songs of theirs.
According to Wikipedia, the Stylistics released this as a single in 1971, from their self-titled debut album. It was their first gold record. Marvin Gaye and Diana Ross recorded a duet of the song in 1974, three years later.
You'll also like their songs - people make the world go round, break up to make up, i’m stone in love with you, you make me feel brand new
Wow, absolutely great choices!
The lead singer's name is Russell Thompkins, Jr ( falsetto )..He is the first one from the left.
Diana Ross & Marvin Gaye did the cover
The stylistics album was used by my husband to convince me he would be loyal and true to me. It took a year of patient courtship for him to seal a deal but definitely worth it.
You're right -- Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye recorded this song in 1973, but the Stylistics were first, in 1971. Here are some more Stylistics songs you will absolutely LOVE:
"You Make Me Feel Brand New"
"Break Up to Make Up"
"I'm Stone in Love With You"
Love, love, love The Stylistics, glad you finally got around to reacting to this wonderful group. Again, we were spoiled in the 70's. "You Make Me Feel Brand New", "Betcha By Golly Wow" and "Stone in Love With You" are my favorites.
The Stylistics - You Make Me Feel Brand New is their best.... so is You are Everything & Break Up To Make Up & LOL they're all great.
What a proud Dad! Love it!! Congrats to your lovely daughter! The Stylistics...WOW! Love, love them! So good!
When I was a teenager, I played this song and "Have You Seen Her" by the Chilites over and over and over.
Blue Magic. "Side Show".
Stop to Start, also from '74. Bloodstone, Natural High.
oh a favorite!!

When they were coming out with these masterpieces I lived in Germany and that was a very long time ago. To this very day, I still find their music to be some of the best ever and it never gets old to me. I would just say that they were in my opinion, one of the greatest bands of all time. They sure stir my heart when I hear them. Timeless!
The Stylistic have such a smooth blend and had many great songs. Can't get groups like this anymore.....what A shame!
Congrats to your daughter and her accomplishment. My grandson started out at a young age too with sports and was always on the go. ( baseball, football, basketball and soccer).in city leagues and school teams. By the time he was in high school he had narrowed it down to football ( his greatest passion). He is now 24 and a rookie in the NFL with the L.A. Chargers. So, you just never know what life has in store and where it will take you or your children. With parents like you who support their interests, they will all follow their dreams and succeed. Tell her that this fan and grandma says, "Well done"
Nothing better than Old School 70's harmonies, Stylistics, Blue Magic, Dramatics, Delfonics, Chi lites, O'Jays Manhattans, and of course the Temptations, Supremes and 4 Tops of the 60's. These groups bring a sound genre from Motown and Philadelphia that will never be touched.
You are correct this was the first hit for the song as done by the Stylistics for the Sound of Philadelphia. Later Marvin Gaye and Diana Ross did it for Motown records.
Congrats on your daughter making the team and to all your talented kids!
Stop look listen to your heart was a national hit first!
But the song they are talking about is "You Are Everything"
Stop look listen to your heart was the first national hit
I’ve always thought Barry Gibb based his falsetto on the Stylistics.
Jordan Knight of NKOTB has said that he based his falsetto on them. There’s a video of the two groups singing, Jordan in the high parts, that is amazing!
Yes. He mentioned delfonics and stylistics as his influence
One of my all time favourite groups. That voice 😇
"You Make Me Feel Brand New" is everything.
This was Barry Gibbs inspiration.
Russell Thompkins Jr. .... what a beautiful powerful falsetto voice. I LUV all The Stylistics hits, and this one SENDS ME ...
This is one of several groups singing slow smooth soulful songs . . . . It was a great time to be a teenager. I loved it.
The song was written by Thom Bell and Linda Creed, who wrote most if not all of the Stylistics' hits, including "Betcha By Golly Wow", which you reacted to before. On his own, Thom Bell was a very successful record producer, and he wrote the Delfonics' "La-La (Means I love You)", which you also reacted to.
Thom Bell was a superb producer and songwriter, Linda Creed was a fantastic lyricist. They both wrote some great songs with others, but their work together was sublime.
This is one of my all time favorite songs by them, such a beautiful song ❤️ good luck to your baby 🎉
Back when they made really good music with proper harmonies and lyrics.
70s was full of em
The Stylistics ruled the early 70's with the soul ballads. Their first 3 lps were all great. People make the World go round, Stop, Look, Listen to your heart, Betcha by Golly Wow, You're a Big Girl Now, You are Everything was their debut Lp. Then Betcha by Golly Wow and Break up to Make up, then You Make me feel brand new. All monsters. But they had a 13 yr run. First Impressions, another great one on Mercury records. They also did the best rendition of My Funny Valentine.
All of their songs are good. One of the best groups of all time. We had the BEST music back then.
The original Wonder Years tv show played this song for Kevin and Winnie’s love scene it was beautiful. One of my favorite groups reminds me of my first love.❤️
Actually they danced to it in the episode "Double Double Date" and ended up getting back together. Love scene was a later episode.
Among the best uses of music in a TV show or movie ever.
@reebee That's what this song reminds me of too. What a great show the Wonder Years is. 😊
Congrats on all you children. Great music today.
Producer writer and arranger Thom Bell was the magician behind the Stylistics success. He later produced the Spinners.
The Stylistics was in reality lead singer Russell Tomkins Jr and the backing vocals were Philly writers and producers Thom Bell, Bunny Sigler Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. The group who appeared on TV and in live shows were hired parts!
The Diana Ross & Marvin Gaye cover version was a massive UK Top 5 pop hit in early 1974 but was never released in the USA.
The Sound of Philly! Old friends of my parents who they've known for years, the husband was The Stylistics Tour Bus driver.
Sweet 70s Soul.. and the Sound of Philadelphia!
The 70s was full of great music from rock, pop, progressive, blues, rhythm and blues. We may never see a time like it again. Blessed.
Some other R&B groups - The four tops - keeper of the castle, catfish, when she was my girl; The spinners - it’s a shame; The o’jays - for the love of money, family reunion, stairway to heaven, emotionally yours; Chi-lites - oh girl, (for god’s sake) give more power to the people; b.t. express - do it (‘til you’re satisfied), express; The undisputed truth - smiling faces sometimes; Friends of distinction - going in circles, love or let me be lonely; Isley brothers - shout, this old heart of mine, it’s your thing, harvest for the world
You left out The Manhattans - Kiss And Say Goodbye
@@TonyM1961 Yes, they definitely need to react to that one.
Dramatics' In the Rain, Blue Notes' the Love I Lost, Blue Magic Sideshow, Main Ingredient Everybody Plays the Fool, Bloodstone Natural High...
Definitely one of the best soul groups of the 70's. Lots of loving happened while playing their music.
Congratulations to your daughter! That's awesome! 🎉
My favorite Stylistics song is Stoned in love with you. Another group that sounded just like them was Blue Magic. They had a song called Sideshow. Stylistics reminds me of my childhood. Thanks for reacting to them ❤
Oh! The glorious age of beautiful '70s soul harmony -- thanks for picking this classic (yes, it's the original). Philadelphia soul at its finest, written by Thom Bell and Linda Creed. Other great Stylistics songs include "Stop Look Listen," "Stone In Love With You," "Break Up To Make Up," and many others. Congrats to your daughter!
This is the original version Marvin Gaye and Diana Ross version was a cover . Please check out these songs by the Stylistics

Singing since the age of twoooooooo.
@@jessebrown3790 yes another classic
Love 70's R&B ♥️. So sad they don't make this kind of music anymore 😔 Congratulations to your daughter 🎉
I love the 70's soul music. Nothing today can even remotely compare...
Oh wow!! I absolutely love this song! I was transported back to the Super Smooth & Soulful 70s. Yes!
Each of the great R&B groups of the 60s and 70s had their own unique sound. No one ever confused one group for another. Great singers, vocals great song writers and great music! Stop!
Written by the late Thom Bell and the late Linda Creed. Creed (is what Thom used to call her) wrote this in honor of her husband, whom she called Ebbie who has passed too. FYI: Creed made the final decision on whether the song was ready to be recorded. When they neared the recording door, Thom asked Creed if it was ready. The Studio was named Sigma Sound, and it's famous in Philly. In my opinion, she is one of the greatest lyricists of "Bittersweet Soul" I've ever heard.
I agree!! i am a big fan of the gifted lady, may she continue to rip.🙏
Stone in Love with You is one of their best. You’ll love it.
I listened to that golden falsetto voice of Russell Allen Thompkins Jr. many times on many dates during my youth. These are songs of love and from the heart. The kind that make you fall in love all over again. Thanks for playing this one because I relate to it for a very personal reason. Sad but true. Rock on young bloods. If I could go back I would but I can relive it back through both of you and your loving reactions.
Congrats to daughter #2!!! Great news to two proud parents!!
'I Can't Give You Anything (But My Love)', is one that's often overlooked by The Stylistics.
White southern high school boy who loved the sweet sounds of the Stylistics. Wore out their greatest hits album. Regulars on Soul Train. The Sound of Philadelphia
Stylistics/Rock n Roll Baby😮😊
Congratulations to your daughter! I adore your family! You all feel like my own! Wish her all of our best!I just love you all!
Dang! This came out in 1971 when I was 10 years old; I didn’t realize it came out so early!
It was a *GREAT* radio song (among soooooo many classics of the era) and everyone loved it and many people bout the 45!
The falsetto and the harmonies in this song melt me every time and I always sing along!
Congrats on your daughters progress. And now... this song is soooo smooth and relatable so much in my generation when that song came out. Thanks for reacting to it. Lead singer was Russel Thompkins Jr.
My favorite of their songs is their 1973 hit "Rockin' Roll Baby" Infectious melody
Philadelphia's own. They are awesome. Lot's of great songs. Look at old Soul Train video's. They were just beautiful. We're proud to say they "are ours". Pure Philly sound.
This song by the Stylistics reminds me of Rose Royce's "I wanna get next to you" - for me they have a similar vibe. Airy, and magical...❤
I just love Motown and Philly Sound music. It is excellent!
Congrats on your daughters slaughtering their goals... BRAVO!! 🙌🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
LOVE THE STYLISTICS!!! Yes: THEY, TOO, were on my K-TEL ALBUM!!! No bad songs by this band!! CONGRATS ON THE SOCCER TEAM, KIYA!!! :) GREAT JOB!!! GO GET 'EM, GIRL!!!
Agreed, such a beautiful, classic tune!
“You’re A Big Girl Now” is another great song by The Stylistics.
Simply beautiful..💖😪🙂
The good old days with such wonderful music in the past. Loved The Stylistics were really wonderful to listen to........I'm in heaven!!
One of my fav's from back then....Always good vibes rehearing the Stylistics. Slow dancing in the disco days.......
Out of all the Stylistic's songs, this one has the most beautiful melody of them all IMO. 😊
If you want to listen to a Stylistics song with a little different vibe than most of their songs check out "Rock and Roll Baby" , I love it , it has a great hook.
I think Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye did this song too. We were spoilt as teenagers ... there was so much choice, so many great tunes/bands and singers. So loved the Stylistics.
.
You're so right! So many different styles of music in the 70's. We were so lucky!
Yes they did do it.. one of many duos and the best version
Congratulations to your daughter!
One of my favorite groups. Great smooth sound.
Jay, I agree with you. My voice sounds like an old bullfrog but I love a good falsetto. Why I like The Bee Gees and Lou Christi so much!
Oh, this is the original… I was a tiny little girl when this song was out, but I remember it like was yesterday… and I still remember all the words to the very end just like it was yesterday
Amber Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye did cover a Stylistics song but it was Stop, Look, Listen to Your Heart. The lead singer of the Stylistics was Russell Thompkins Jr. This song and many others were written by Thom Bell and Linda Creed. The only member of the group that sang on the Stylistics records on their first 3 albums was Russell Thompkins Jr. Thom Bell and some other studio singers sang background including 3 female singers.
I stand corrected Amber. Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye also recorded You Are Everything on the same album as they recorded Stop, Look Listen.
