1st) Asia has one of the most fantastic li'l faces anyone could ever see! 2nd) As far as 'one-hit-wonder' i think these guys were actually a 'two-hit-wonder'.(But don't ask me to remember the other one, haha) Two brothers (i think from Germany, but i could be wrong on that) I heard on a brief interview(somewhere) that he had made this song as a 'goof' and then it just f'n took off. It was popular, got a lot of play on MTV at the time (unfortunately haha. A lot of us just thought it sucked, and couldn't figure out it's popularity) Idk, a lot of people apparently liked it. Now there's that one catchy little riff (it shows the guy playing it on a guitar, but it sounds so heavily synthesized, it sounds more like a key-board) idk if they sampled that from someone, or if others had sampled it from them. That's the part you probably heard 'somewhere'. That's actually, not a bad riff, on it's own. And yet somehow perfectly fits the whole 'cat-walk theme'. I could totally picture a girl walking a cat-walk with that music playing, it just somehow fits. But yeah, ha ha, 'so' ridiculous, smh, indeed.
Right Said Fred are an English-based band and the song is fun and incredibly tongue-in-cheek. As you know us Brits like to make fun of ourselves. The band are named after a popular comedy song from the 1960s called “Right Said Fred” by the actor Bernard Cribbins where he spins a tale of men trying to move a piece of furniture and gradually dismantling the whole house in the process.
"Right Said Fred" made this song to actually poke fun at all the self-centered conceited celebrities of the time (models, actors, singers, etc.). So, it was really a joke on them.
Don't know if it's been mentioned yet but the guitar lick at the bridge is from Jimi Hendrix's "Third Stone From The Sun". It was the hook that got the attention that turned it into an instant worldwide classic.
This song took over when it released…Ppl had the most self esteem at that time than any other time since Ive been alive. "Right Said Fred" was the title of a comedy song by Bernard Cribins released in the late 1950's /early 60's. It is a standard phrase used in the UK. The guys were taking the piss out of people posing in their gym and probably took the name in homage to the original funny song. IT is very British in every respect!
Formed by brothers Fred and Richard Fairbrass in 1989 and are still going today! They are best known for the hit 1991 song "I'm Too Sexy". Think about this it reached number 1 hits in 70 countries including one US number 1, one UK number 1, and a number 1 in Japan. They were the first UK band to reach the number one slot in the US with a debut single since The Beatles. They have performed for Queen Elizabeth of the United Kingdom, Nelson Mandela. Many, many years ago, I stopped by our local high-end stereo dealer and bought "the most fabulous object in the world" (Time Bandits reference) from their trade-in rack: a 5 disc CD carousel player (in the late 80s, this was epic). The stereo story HID a "Right-Said-Fred" cd in the carousel player, just to get rid of it. Along with Wham! and Milli Vanilli's Greatest Hits....
I remember Growing up in Fortlaudale Florida listening to this and all the killer techno pop songs in nightclubs that were as big as cities themselves...Born and raised there in Fort Lauderdale when folks just loved everyone. Right Said Fred was a song by a man called Bernard Cribbins a song about a couple of working guys failing to get a job done. Loved by little kids in the 60's. The smile at the end says it all, it's just fun.
Making fun of people who think they are too sexy. It's perfect. Though, back in the day everybody became too sexy on the dance floor when this song started. It was fun.
He's making fun of models, and the whole fashion industry in general. First time I heard this song, I hated it, but later started to love it, and still do.
When the song came out, gay men like singer Richard Fairbrass were really getting in to working out, and were often referred to in a derogatory manner as gym bunnies (or worse). He had a clear image of himself, however, and this was a self piss-take aimed just as much at himself as it was at all the other buff guys.
I heard South Padre 1992 you couldn't walk 20 feet without another boombox jamming this song. It had a 2 or 3 month run but it was definitely lit during that time.
Classic song and much loved. There is a small section that sounds like something I heard before. Watching this I suddenly realised they sampled 'Dance With The Devil' by Cozy Powell! Drove me nutz.
They should react to ''Rumors'' Timex Social Club (I can't believe I still remember them). To me, ''Rumors'' and ''I'm Too Sexy'' went hand in hand w/ each other. They both discuss things/thoughts that occur in life but still funny to hear a song about it.

I love watching Asia watch this video, I love that Cheshire Cat smile. You made my week Asia ❤️
Glad you enjoyed it!
There's another song that was all about modeling called "Here Comes The Hotstepper" by Ini Kamoze. Great song, strange video the one made for the Prêt-à-Porter movie.
This song reminds me of ''Married w/ Children'', specifically Al (who later remarried and changed his name to Jay Pritchett)
I was singing this in the bathroom while I was shaving and then the guy in the mirror said man stop lying to yourself 🤣🤣🤣
First time listening and watching this music video. When it first came out, I heard
one line on the radio and avoided it ever since. Thanks guys! One and done for me.
