Sometimes war is easier, because it's conscious and there are other people suffering together. I get to events like my favorite toy being taken by my mum because she thought it was old and broken. There were worse things happening, but my psyche connected safety with that toy and loosing it was worse than being hungry.

Thank you for this video. I have fibromyalgia, and at the moment I am just surviving. My dad was an alcoholic, and to say my childhood was turbulent may be an understatement. My mom died last May, my dad last June, and my husband was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer last July. He has been in hospital for more than 5 weeks now, and had blood clots in his lungs and brain. At the moment he can't get up, and he is very weak. I need to be his rock, but I am a mess. I am still going to see him every day, chin up, but I collapse as soon as I get home. I will work through your videos.

Bingo. I have had fibromyalgia for 4 years and I do agree that it is a "brace" feeling. I have debilitating fatigue so it was interesting for me when you said the body eventually stops trying. Like a learned helplessness. I also get frequent nightmares of being hunted and I often dread going to sleep, so that matches up with what you said about sleep being a time for processing. Very interesting. Thank you for using fibromyalgia as a specific example, this really helped.

I agree with this. And sometimes the 'less intense' can be worse for a person, if only in that, it may be that they may never understand why they have an issue and feel shame and struggle always thinking it is their fault.

Honestly, the more i learn about this the more hopeless it makes me feel. Im on my healing journey now, but with over two decades worth of trauma to heal it makes me wonder how long it'll take when i seem to be more connecting more and more things within my body to trauma responses

Sineade Williams, Jen here from Team Lyon. I hear you that learning more can contribute to feelings of hopelessness. This changes that result from engaging with this nervous system work can take time, and the changes to usually happen for those of us who stick with it.
I will add that the part that often gets overlooked in somatic work where can be a lot of emphasis on feeling what's happening in the body is the part that involves growing the capacity to hold all that we're feeling and experiencing. This can make a big difference, especially for those of use who have a history that includes early developmental trauma (EDT). I'll link to a few related resources in case you'd like to learn more.

Thanks Irene I’ve been staying with my 86 yo dad for last 2 weeks while step mom is in hospital, and the lack of connection, quality conversation or any interest in my personal life, has me all wadded up with resistance 😣 my back and knees hurt, my heart is racing and last night I ate a huge cookie with tons of frosting, just to distract from my internal landscape. Feeling guilt bc he’s old and nice and some memory loss but also re-angered at his passive, limp way of relating and surface level small talk…this helps so much thank you 🙏

That is really interesting. I felt a bit the same with my father before he died. I wonder if a lot of children feel this way with their emotionally out of touch elderly fathers (or mothers). It seems tolerable when we and they are young, they still seem to hold some potential of connection within them. We think ‘one day we’ll connect at a meaningful level’. But they get old and frail and you realise they are actually incapable of connecting. They haven’t done the inner work, they don’t even understand anything deep, they don’t know you or anything about your life, and you realise it is too late. There is no potential left. And to add insult to injury, they become weak and dependent & you now feel an expectation and sense of obligation to look after them - and you think not only did they not look after you when you were a young beautiful child and needed it, but now you’re supposed to look after them! And if you feel resentment you also feel guilty for not wanting to look after this decrepit frail old man /woman. I might be taking this a bit far, but my father was highly narcissistic when I was a child and clearly wasn’t interested in me as a child, so I did resent feeling as though now I had to act in a kind benevolent way. In reality my mother did most of the caregiving in his later years.

The tightness around the heart, feeling deep visceral movements near my bones in my pelvis, the brace and collapse sensations, the inability to function during daytime and extreme fatigue. This is it. I had been doing trauma work on my own and processed so many of my traumas that I got to nonverbal trauma. I knew it was nonverbal trauma because traumas were coming up but I could no longer pinpoint at what age that trauma occurred. Thank you so much, I now know what to tell doctors about my symptoms. I am SOO HAPPY you are here Irene. THIS IS IMPORTANT TOO!!!!!
    I’ve been following you….
Forever. Your teachings are a BIG part of what finally made my acceptance of the trauma I had… real. Real enough that I could actually start the healing and repair of my nervous system. I’ve been working at now since 2018, with severe GAD and chronic dizziness symptoms. But it wasn’t until about 14 months ago that I
“GOT IT” . I came face to face with my trauma’s and my life consequences now at 69..
It’s very hard to “ LOOK” at it all😢, but ALL worth it to find ourselves “ WHOLE” again, body.. mind.. soul. We either can’t face things… ( me) or have shoved it all down( me)… found ways to cope with survival stress( me) or can’t handle it all, ( me) until…
Well, we can, or life says we MUST.
The pieces finally fit and I am getting there. Huge progress actually in this 14 month time. And I have environmental ( living situation)issues to navigate through also.
    I’m gonna get there!
You are so brilliant my Irene from the bottom of my ❤…
I thank you. And I’ve done this all through the videos and your teaching me.

I have lived with the discomfort of it for nearly 4 years now. I embarked on the SBSM work in September 2022. The course work can be intense so going at one’s own pace is desirable. I reached a stage at one point where I felt regulation of sorts. I could actually let go of some of the tension on non work days and not be scared by tension that came with activities such as mild gardening. But then work became stressful between November and December and the regulation wheels fell off. Since SBSM finished I have been catching up on content I missed. I find the neurosensory exercises most helpful especially the gut-brain awareness and the diaphragms.
Some days when I practise them I can feel regulation. Other times not. It is almost like feeling it when you do the exercises without a set outcome in mind. Sadly there is much too much discomfort all over me and in more places than before. Have to dig deep to feel ok.

When my doctor put me on "pain management" at least she knew it was my trauma that was causing the pain. If only they could have done something about my complex stress and continued trauma instead. Ten years later, they traumatized me more by removing my doctor for having me on deadly combinations of drugs and pulling my management. I still live in the hope of real care and healing that I could not receive on my income.

I asked my mother about my childhood. She told me that when I was about 1 year old, I was in my crib next to her bed. I was asking her to give me her hand (apparently, I liked to hold her hand) but my father did not let her do it. He kept saying, "Do not spoil him". I read that if you have problems falling asleep it's b/c your cortisol level is high. Which means you're in the flight or fight mode. Maybe figuriing out what event earlier in the day triggered your fight/flight response and resolve it? For instance coffee will increase your cortisol level. Also eating fat (like a few pats of butter) can reduce your cortisol lever. (Fat will not raise your glucose level.)

Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue (and lyme) are also common among these mostly middle class people who get every stupid shot that medicine offers. In some of those shots, there are toxic @djuvants like al and mercury.
So, they also need to help their livers detox with NAC, vitamin d3+k2, vitamin C.

Yeah, and we're also surrounded by toxins all the time, so even if we avoid shots, we still need to help our bodies detox. I have the MTHFR gene mutation which also causes my body to not be able to detox effectively, so even though I avoid allopathic medicine as much as humanly possible, I still struggle with fatigue, brain fog, depression etc etc. I'm having to take antibiotics for the first time in 10+ years and they're really messing me up. Gotta majorly detox after this...they'd better at least do what they're supposed to because so far I'm barely seeing results, just side effect of exhaustion, brain fog and depression. I can't imagine what these things do to people who take them regularly. Unfortunately we're living in a very toxic world, both emotionally and chemically.
