    Does your 2012 (2008-2020) Dodge Grand Caravan or Chrysler Town and Country sliding door not lock or unlock. So typically, the lock actuator fails in one way or another. Ours stopped locking so that it was always unlocked. It wouldn't even lock by turning the knob and the automatic locks totally didn't work. I've heard of others that it wouldn't unlock so they couldn't open the door and were forced to always use the other door. Power locks are great when they work, but when they burn out or as mine did get jammed or strip out the gears, it is no fun to fix. And really it is nothing to do with the fob. This video will help you troubleshoot your vehicle and replace the part that is causing the issue. It is a lot of work but the dealership would charge at least a $1000 for replacing a $25 part.
    You can do this repair. Also, from what I understand that the different years and models have a little different lay out to the door so, some are going to be easier than what I had to deal with. If I can do it, you can do it. Make sure to carve out a good day or two just in case it takes as long as mine did.
    I think the 2010 and 2011 are similar to the 2012 but at some point 2013 or 2014, or 2015 they changed the design of the door slightly to not have the pieces interconnect as I understand it.
    This is part of maintaining your daily driver series.
    Gotta love Mopar!

    Thank you so much for your video on this problem, Jay! Armed with the knowledge of what to expect ahead of time, I was able to swap out my 2019 Grand Caravan passenger side actuator in under 5 hours. It would have been less, but I goofed on a couple of things and had to redo. Your best tip - Wedging the window in the up position. With that, you don't have to remove the window or take anything off the exterior. Thanks again sir!

      You can do it!! Just keep at it and don't let it beat you. You might not take the same amount of time as others but as long as it gets done is what matters. I know I'll watch videos and say, oh they did it in so many hours why is it taking me longer. But it isn't a fair comparison. Again, it is getting to the finish line, not how long the journey takes.

    I had watched a separate video of this from someone else and theirs wasnt as good. My problem is the other video said to take out the 4 -30mm that deals with window. I had the window taped up but after wtching yours it made more sense so what I did was take the tape off lower down window and frame til it sat on door bottom and took out screws. When it comes time to put back together since i hadnt had power to lower the window and just will have to push arm down to bolt up how will that affect the raise lower of window when it gets power.

    TIP:. If you can remember, always unlock the doors with the lock switch on the arm rest before activating the power door button. The door lock actuator and the power door pulley eventually go out of sync and the door starts opening a split second before it unlocks causing stress to the actuator if you only use the power door button.
    Also, if you can, have someone take videos and photos of everything you do from start to finish when disassembling the door. This way you know how everything goes back.

    if you take the outside trim piece off and take the rear window out you won't have a problem getting the back channel back in just be careful on removing the outside trim panel and you will have to have the adhesive to put it back on after assembling everything back in the door..

      It sucks.
      Should I pull it all back out and snap it all together before putting it in?

    • @jaysjeepandclassiccars
      @jaysjeepandclassiccars  Рік тому +1

      @@marshallnmoonshine it has been over a year since I did the repair so I don't remember all the steps exactly what I did. However, i do remember a battle if it is the part I am thinking about. I used punches to hold the lock in place to get the screws in it. If you watch around the 44:00 minute mark I explain how I put the two parts together. I put the window channel in and then I was able to get a couple fingers on the hole and peg and get them to slide on together and in. It wasn't perfect when I finished but it worked if I remember right. And yes the door lock and the window channel need to be together if I remember right but they were separate from the door plate part. I hope this helps. don't give up. I know I tried it all sorts of different ways and if one way doesn't work for you try it the other way. There are so many different configurations to these doors that it is hard to say what is the best way. You can do it!! Don't give up! you got this. Once you get it, the rest isn't too bad...

    • @marshallnmoonshine
      @marshallnmoonshine Рік тому

      @@jaysjeepandclassiccars I got it! I did end up putting the plates together first, and was able to get it into place. I hadn't disconnected the outer door handle cable, but that made it WAAAY easier to manipulate around.
      Having them snapped together also prevented me from bending that rod between the door lock handle switch and the actuator.
      Sacking up and disconnecting cables helped a lot. I'd never taken cables out before, so I was hesitant to open those cans of worms. I don't do much car work, but I was a machinery tech in the USCG, an electrician, mechanic and refrigeration guy in engine rooms on container ships for 20 years, so I'm handy enough and have more than enough tools.
      If I have any advice to give to the next guy: Take pictures of the cable runs. As soon as you get that panel off, snap a picture. Because which cables are in front and which are in back can be tricky to figure out.
      As soon as you get the whole assembly out, take more pictures before taking them apart, front and back. I doubt anyone reads the random comments, so you might add that up top, if you see fit. It REALLY helped me. I wish I'd taken more.
      I did break the plastic part on the rear "applique" that like 4 guys in separate videos all broke. I used JB Weld Quick Epoxy to put it all back together and replaced the double sided mounting tape with Gorilla indoor/outdoor stuff. It should go right back in. We'll see how it goes on the other door.
      Man, I'm glad I got this thing fixed. My kids are sick of hearing how much money I saved, unless I put it in terms of Disneyland trips. :)
