I thank God for people like you that share their knowledge with strangers. I had the exact same problem and fixed it in 45 minutes with my curious 3 year old daughter helping me. Could have done it much faster without her but there is no placing a time limit on a successful father-daughter moment. Thanks again.

Thank you!! The dealer replaced my wiring harness about 18 months ago under warranty, but now that it's out of warranty and the exact same problem is happening again they want to charge me $425 to replace it again!! I'm going to try this when I get it back from them tomorrow!

My Chrysler dealer didn't know what was wrong with my power doors when they stopped working. He said if it's the motors, it would be $2000 EACH to replace. Then I saw your video. Today, my 13 year old daughter fixed 2 broken wires (under my direction!), 1 on each door. Total cost for a wire striper and a packet of wire connectors? $15. You saved me a fortune in dealer charges. Thank you that man!

I know this an old post but gotta give credit where it's due. Just picked up a well used 2005 DGC with the same issue. Door would open slightly when the button on the panel was pushed and it would lock closed but wouldn't slide function at all. Found this post and followed your instructions. I didn't have to look far, the ground wire was chafed and broken right at the 2nd "link" in that flex tray. Quick splice and some turns of electrical tape and the door works perfectly. Thanks for the DIY, saved me frustration and $$$ !

Buddy, thank you very much for this video. 3 minutes to watch your very exact and coherent instructions, 1 minute to get tools, 8 minutes to open.. find the cut ...connect them.. tape it... put it back... and presto... ! mine was not closing or opening all the way, and while i was opening the snaps and until i found the cut i was thinking "oh please show me a cut.. this is easy"..best part my wife is happy !

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan
I took my van to the dealer with the very same problem. They blamed it on the motor and told me I needed $900.00 worth of work. They also tried to tell me I should fix both doors, even though only one was causing problems!
Well I watched your video twice. I got out the tools and did it myself! You saved me a ton of money that I didn't have! It works perfectly now! I'm so grateful!

Thanks much for the Video. Saved me couple hundred bucks. Dealer was going to replace the harness. My breaks were in the exact same spot as yours. The mechanics at the dealer had to of known this. The service manager told me it would be very involved to try to find the "open ground". They charged me $60 just to tell me that.

Thanks for posting this. Both our passenger doors went bad and the dealership was going to charge us $800 to fix them. Just finished the job in fifteen minutes. The only slightly tricky part was unsnapping the small latches on the plastic chain. I would have never been brave enough to try it unless you kindly posted this. Thanks for making the world a better place.

Big Thanks!!! After viewing your video I repaired my broken power door. I was told that a wire may be cut but never knew how to repair it. Found out about 5 inches of wire was cut and missing. My own mechanic refused to repair it saying he may have to change the motor mechanism but didn't want to chance being bogged down with time on it. Another gas station mechanic says he would charge $250.00 to fix it. So thanks again.

Awesome! I Just did this today on my 2005 Town and Country and found a wire that had severed somehow.
I found that it was easier to disconnect the plastic links and push the loos part up toward the door to have easier access to the wires. Just another way to get at it.

Thanks. Your video was very helpful. As they say, "A pictures worth a thousand words!" I have the exact same problem on our 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT. I would imagine the constant flexing of the wire bundle is probably the source of the problem. With all of the apparent problems, you would think this should be a recall issue. Anyway, thanks again for posting!

Great video and it worked for me. One of my wires had a crimp near where Laibro had his problem. To fix it, I bought some 18 GA wire, solder, and a solder gun. I cut out a 2 inch section of the bad wire and then inserted in the new piece of wire. Doing it this way required 2 solder connections, but is best. Then, I wrapped it good in electrical tape, put it all back together again and it worked. A nice cheap fix - I'm sure it would have been at least $400 if I had taken it in.

We have an '06 Town & Country. At first the driver side slider would only open manually, not at all with the power operation (although it made sounds like it wanted to). After playing down there for a bit, the door would close to about a 1 foot opening, then stop. Your video hit the problem right on the head...one wire was broken (in two places!!!). Thanks so much!

From my experience, if you have to do this fix, you'll have to do it over and over. From my research, it looks like the Mopar part number for this wiring harness is 4868122AC. You can google that part number to find a replacement harness. the cheapest one I've found so far seems to be around $80.

Hello thanks so much for the tutorial. I believe it was your video that I used about two years ago to do the Passenger side door. The Driver's side door is now only opening a few inches and then has a motor winding sound. The same is true when shutting the door, it gets to 2" and stops with motor winding. I checked the Wires and all seems good. I do remember Cleaning the brass clutch plate and magnet of the the door motor, but this was to let the door move more freely when opening manually.

Right on target! My passenger door failed like this and was repaired while still under warranty. Today it was the driver side's turn, and no more warranty for me. My ground wire was broken exactly where your indicated, and this was an easy do-it-yourself. Anyone else think that 50,000+ views of this video might possibly somehow suggest this is a design defect that should be a covered out-of-warranty fix? Hello, Chrysler???? (Sorry, I know I'm dreaming...)

  • @jgarb21
    @jgarb21 10 років тому

Is there a correlation between what failure mode the door is and which of the wires to focus on? I have previously spliced and obvious break but know I have both doors malfunctioning again.
    * One door seems to close fine (for now), but upon opening it just pops open and stops (no motor sounds after initial opening.
    * The other door will almost completely shut just short about 3 inches and the Motor continues to run but the door is stuck in the 3-inch opened position. This same door from a shut position will only open to that 3-inch location and motor runs but no movement of the door. The wires "look" good.

Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I have the same problem but have been scared to cut into the fabric sleeve that protects the wires. I assume you had to do the same thing to get at your wires? Was the break obvious? I imagine there is a kink in the wire, or you can feel it with your fingers. How did you repair the wire? Did you use a 'connector'? I assume a wire nut wouldn't be the answer here. I would like to use a shrink tubing to finish it off if possible. Thanks.

I have used this video to fix both of my doors on a couple of occasions. When I've done this before, the door would open partially, but not all the way. The "closer motor" also worked, so when i manually shut the door, the motor would close it all the way. The problem I am having now is the "closer motor" is not working at all when I manually shut the door. So, would this be the same problem as this video is showing, or is that motor something different? I'm thinking different but can anyone say for sure before I take the wire housing apart and start looking for broken wires?

The power doors on my 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT work when you press the door button on the inside of the van, they work when you press the door buttons on the keypad, and they work when you press the buttons that are up on the ceiling in the front of the van. However, they do not work when you press the button on the handle on the inside of the door, or when you pull the handle open on the outside of the door.
