    Thank you from the bottom of my heart for making these videos. Several of them have been exactly what I needed to be able to do these repairs myself and save hundreds on mechanic charges. This one in particular my mechanic quoted me $750 to do both doors and I was able to buy $120 worth of parts and do them both myself in about an hour. Getting those door covers back on was the hard part for me.

    Thanks for your excellent video tutorial!
    I needed actuators for both sliding doors on my 01 Caravan. Did the driver side first by trial and error, wasted 8 hours removing all hardware,extracting a stripped lock screw, finding the replacement - unnecessarily removing entire hardware and-putting it back! If only I had watched your You Tube video first, I could have done the whole thing in 15 minutes! I will be doing the actuator on the other door your way.
    You are doing a great service! Thanks!

    Thanks for the video & link for the part. Rec'd part quickly and EASILY replaced actuator on 2005 Caravan. Took about 20 minutes - works perfect!
    2 pieces of advice:
    - Only open door MANUALLY while working - don't use power door button to avoid smacking around upper door trim
    - BEFORE REMOVING old actuator, see how it lines up with the metal bracket inside door. Once removed, look inside rear of door to find the lock pin the actuator moves. The oval hole of actuator arm fits on this pin.
    :)

    I would not have been able to do this job without this video. With that said, it is a trickier job than it looks. Yes, I did try to be careful, but still dropped the screw into the door..... and yes it is impossible to retrieve. The hardest part is the placement of the mechanism itself. I would carefully inspect the placement before removing, then try to place the new one before screwing it in.

    I'm with Maureen Fox on this one. On the passenger side, there is the hole where a screw should be, but there is a metal bracket inside the door panel. No screw, no rivets. Not seeing how the bracket comes out or the actuator comes out of the bracket. It's probably something easy. *lol* Thank you for the videos!!

    Thank you 1aauto! I just repaired both sides. However, just a note for everyone else repairing the passenger side, you'll need to drill a 3/8" hole to access the T15 screw. It's pretty easy, just make sure you go slow so you don't ruin the screw head on the other side of the metal.

    • @sluggo7
      @sluggo7 3 роки тому

      How would you know where to drill that hole, if you've never done the driver's side, so don't know where the screw is? You can also get at that screw by removing the entire door latch (but, you have to be able to open the door to remove the three torx bolts on the back of the passenger door, surrounding the latch), with the actuator attached to it (that's then a good time to drill your hole to make it much easier, if you have to replace the actuator, again).

    Good instructions. The first time I did it, I didn't properly connect the backside of the actuator, so the actuator properly locked / unlocked the door, but the manual door latch button inside, and the outside door lever were both disabled from opening the door, as if the childproof door was enabled. The fix is to make sure you connect the backside lever thing in addition to the metal manual lock linkage.

      OK, so a brief follow-up. Instead of drilling a hole in the door, I found it was much easier to use a T30 torx bit to remove the entire latch mechanism(3 screws on the back of the door), then move the mechanism forward in the door. You only have 1 screw to remove to pull the actuator loose, and you don't have to risk dropping the screw(which you will never find) or drill a new hole in the door. I figured Dodge must have had a way to assemble the whole thing and slide it into the door.

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  12 років тому

    In most cases where the lock does not work it is related to the actuator being bad but you should check the wires to make sure there is nothing frayed before tearing everything apart and finding out that you don't need it.

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  11 років тому

    You may want to check the wire harness that's between the door and body of the van for a broke or frayed wire that could be causing this issue.

    EZ-peezee. Did not have the T-15 screw the holds the actuator on in the same spot and had to drill a hole in the door panel to get to it but it was not difficult. (They had it higher and farther back.) Door hasn't locked for two years and could kick myself for not doing this sooner. Thanks

    Great video, thank you for posting. I just installed the new actuator with ease and everything works with that. But now I cannot manually open the door with the handle! The door handle moves and you can see the latch working internally and it is not the child safety lock either. Any ideas if the actuator swap affected the manually usage of the doors? I'm stumped!

    I cannot manually or auto unlocked drivers sliding door. If I force it up with needle nose pliers it will work for a short period of time. While it is working, a loud buzzing sound comes from the lock actuator whenever you press the lock button (but it does function). However, after it sits for 15-20 minutes, it's back to being stuck in the locked position. Once it's back to being stuck no more loud buzzing sign but also no function (unless forced with pliers) Any ideas?

    On the passenger side door there is a TORX 15 screw hidden behind the panel because the access hole is in the wrong place. If you go over 3/4" to the right and up about 1 and 1/2" you can drill a pilot hole and see how close the the screw you are. It took drilling two holes before I could reach the screw and remove it, but it came out easily then.

    My 2005 T&C sliding door lock somehow got jammed. I ordered the part before taking door apart. After i disconnected the linkage to the actuator i started playing around with the actuator movement because the door couldn't be opened or unlocked no matter what. Not sure what i did but i heard the distinct sound of the door locking in place, so i pushed the button on the inside frame and the door opened right up. Went outside the van and wound up behind the opened door where i found 3 bolts, loosened them and removed the entire assembly, actuator and all. Kept opening and closing the lock and it was working, placed everything back in place and tightened down 2 of the 3 bolts and kept opening and closing the door and it worked fine. Put everything back together and everything is ok now. Oh yea, i lubed everything that moved before closing up the panel.

    You may have to remove the door panel to see if anything is broke, or jammed which could be preventing it from opening. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

    what's the latch on the bottom of the slide door that locks the door back so it won't slide closed on an incline? I have a little daughter and I don't want her getting hurt by the door closing on her....

      Hi ,,, Does anyone know if you have to drill a hole to remove the Passenger side actuator ,,,, or are there
      3 screws that can be removed from the back / inside panel to remove it ????

      YES! I had to cut a flap with my Dremel to reach the actuator on the passenger side.

    Hey , is this the fix that needs to be done when the sliding doors don't unlock or lock when the power switch is pushed? Because I have to unlock mine manually. When I try to do it by the power switch, it won't work. PLEASE HELP!

      You may want to make sure that the fuse is good. If that checks out okay, you may want to check the power going to the switch and also the actuator that unlocks the doors. Hope this helps you guys out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

    It could be, or might also be an issue with the latch assembly. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

    It may be tricky to do, you could try working your way from the top of the door down to see if it's easier to remove the door panel that way. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

    Sometimes there are rivets in place of screws so you might have to drill out the tops of them to remove the actuator.

    Hi,
    What if the driver side sliding door will not open?
    The door lock is stuck in the lock position.

    Like the question from "New York Limo & Car Service
    " before(3 months ago) I too have to anually loc/unlock the sliding doors. They slide automatically when I use the remote but don't lock. Can you help?

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  10 років тому +1

      You may want to check the door lock actuators, and also the check the power going to them with an ohm meter or a test light.

    Wish Dodge would have made the 5th generation Caravans as easy to replace the actuator. It's a total painstaking effort for the newer models.

    Great video, but i think my problem is kind of different, when i press the unlock button from the key or the driver side control, only the driver&passenger doors unlock not the sliding doors. Also from the driver side controls, when i press the two down buttons for both the driver&passenger windows to roll down, only the passenger window comes down not the driver side. If you have an idea of whats the default, please inform me...

    Yeah my drivers side sliding door won't open manually or with any of the buttons will the lock actuator fix that?

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  10 років тому

      You may want to remove the door panel to see if the rod has broken off of the door lock or actuator. It should open with the key, even if the door lock actuator is bad. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

    This is a great video. Having a problem with my van. My issue is the power lock won't lock/unlock. You have to do it manually. Once unlocked, the power door will open and close it.
    Is that the actuator that needs to be replaced to fix this issue? Will definitely buy from 1AAuto.com.

    I have a 2009 Towm and Country. The sliding door on drivers side will not open. It will not close tightly. The window will not work either. Actuator?
    Thanks.

    The video is great, however I am changing the passenger side door, and I cant get the actuator off the door panel. There is not a screw. How do you do it?

  • @Wilx1

    Everything is as you described on my 2007 Grand Caravan, except there is no screw that lines up with the hole in the door. So I cannot figure out how to get the actuator off.

    I have a 2005 GC Sxt, went out to get in the car today and the key fob didnt lock the door and the neither switch worked either.
    I popped the hood and pulled it IOD fuse to reset the actuators.
    I want to fix the actual problem...but i don't want to replace ALL the actuators.
    How do you know which one is the problem?

    I would appreciate a better answer for how to remove the actuator in the passenger door of a 2006 Town and Country. There is no TORX screw in the hole to remove. I have gotten it loose from the bracket, but something (a hidden screw perhaps) is holding it from coming out. Thanks. I see no rivets to drill.
