- Mediterranean Diet 30-Day Challenge (Mediterranean Diet Meal Plan) Day 11: Eggs in Purgatory! Eggs in Purgatory, or Uova al Purgatorio as it’s called in Italy, is a breakfast made of eggs gently poached in a spicy tomato sauce. Eggs in Purgatory is often compared to Shakshuka, a similar brothy soft poached egg and aromatic tomato sauce dish. While similar to Middle Eastern Shakshuka, the way the sauce is seasoned is quite different. Instead of feta and mint, Italian flavors like fresh basil and Parmigiano-Reggiano take center stage. #mediterraneandiet #eggs #shakshuka #eggrecipe

Italian shakshouka!
It's Menemen , or Shakshouka. It's like taking Pizza into my country and giving it a different name calling it Australian.
It's literally a different recipe, the only similarities is the tomato sauce and egg.
It's more like you're calling spaghetti marinara and masala pasta the same dish cause they both have pasta and marinara in them. They have different spices and different cultural backgrounds using common ingredients and similar cooking methods but both with sperate traceable histories.
@@nicodemuscorleonis2178 It is exactly the same. Obviously, you don't know what's Menemen or Shakshouka. So you have only 1 past recipe and that's Spagetti marina. Spaghetti Bolognese is Australian, because we don't shave parmesan cheese always and pronounced different. And Pizza is Australian, too. We use bacon as topping.
Voi
Egyptian shakshoka it is a famous desh in Egypt
Looks like shakshuka.
t's Menemen , or Shakshouka. It's like taking Pizza into my country and giving it a different name calling it Australian.

This reminds me of the Turkish version called menemen which is yummier in my opinion ❤
It's Menemen. not the version but exaclty Menemen, or Shakshuka. It's like taking Pizza into my country and giving it a different name calling it Australian.
@@narniadan oh okay I thought it was different
@@cassnava3797 Menemen or Shakshuka doesn't need to be exactly all the same;; some use onion some don't , some don't like sweet peppers or capsicums, some don't like using black pepper, some like adding a bit of garlic, some like using parsley, some basil...the base is tomatoes and eggs on a frying pan with olive oil. The rest is up to the person; even spinach or baked beans can be used.
Turkish? Oh my goodness you must be joking. I went to Turkey Izmir with family and the food was so unhealthy and disgusting to see let alone to eat. Every restaurant you go the same unhealthy and poorly cooked food.
However, the people in Turkey are friendly, approachable and helpful. They have beautiful beaches but they are not clean, you see bottles, leftover cigarettes....
@@eduhaile5853 if you went for unhealthy meals, that's your problem. You could had shish kebab in kebab shops, zeytinyagli such as artichoke hearts with olive oil, peas, dill which is served in workers eateries all around Turkiye. There is 350 types of meat balls , and nearly 1000 zeytinyagli recipes which is the most healthy recipe as zentinyagli means vegetables cooked in olive oil with lemon juice without any meat. In Esnaf Lokanta (workers eatery), there is at least 50 different zeytinyagli a day and vegetables changes depend on season.
This looks gorgeous, thank you .
Up until the eggs I've started a million dishes this way. I'll definitely try this recipe.
Tomatoes were introduced into Europe in 1521 from South America. Shakahuka is believed to have originated in Tunisia. Very popular in northern part of Africa which was part of the trade routes. Thank you for posting this delicious simple and quick recipe. 🙏🏻🙏🏻😎🥰
Its European dish.... Just like everything on this planet. Copy our kulture!
Really really similar to Menemen 😂

Turkish menemen
Looks good - wish I could do tomatoes
Me too, with GERD tomatoes are not fun.
Similar to Shaksuka
That looks delicious but my husband would never eat that 🙃
Sounds good until you get the runny eggs. I hate runny eggs. Wonder if I can cook them long enough to make them hard boiled
It makes it not nearly as good because the runny yolk mixed with the other ingredients to make the dish a creamy silly concoction.
My mom always added little peas but I like to add onion too not traditional but 🤷🏻♀️
I think every country has this egg-tomato dish 😂
Shakshuka
Hi Chief, luv Your Recipes! Can you help us out a bit more? .. I know Greedy! ..,Huh😂 Lent at my Church is 55 days Vegan! Throw ideas out here, I’d Absolutely appreciate it. 😊 p.s. the family includes 4 Adaults

Can this be frozen?
What she made is Shakshouka in many countries and has been around way way way longer than this Italian dish.
Shakshuka??
Blue is your color.
Isn’t this an African dish?
I'm not a huge fan of eggs, but this looks delicious 😋 🍅🥚🧅🌶🫒
Jewish North African chakchouka with cheese

Try experimenting and make your own recipe. It's rewarding!
@@RT-wq8bd we do experiment on the basis of the recipe in the process of cooking :)
Hmm, I'm sorry, but I think this is also called menemen from Turkey
I only eat it if eggs are well cooked 😢
Then this isn't the recipe for you 🤷♀️
Isn’t this shakshuka?
I can’t do runny eggs
Then don't make this recipe 😂😂😂
In Australia, non of the Italians give this name to this dish. Everyone call it Menemen or Shakshuka in Australia, including Italians.
this a Palestinian dish called shakshuka
That’s not Italian. It’s shakshouka, which is originally North African.
Bro that’s North African and middle eastern not Italian 😂😂😂😂
@WetLettuce-kc2qmso what? We're talking about the dish itself not the ingredients it contains! Arabs also introduced many vegetables and grains to Europe but it means nothing. Use your critical thinking
@WetLettuce-kc2qm its not just about ingredients it's a combination of ingredients, method, and preparation.
That''s Menemen. Turkish Dish. And Lebanese have a very similar dish called Shakshuka. It's not Italian.
If you want the less disgusting version of this I suggest that you make Persian tomato omelettes instead
Why even comment saying what you did?
It's rude as hell 😒
Too filling in the morning
Nope. It's an amazing breakfast dish. Don't knock it till you've tried it 🤦♀️
A bowl of stuffs mushed together tastes horrible
Italian ? Since when shakshuka is Italian
Eggs in inflammatory Hades .... Unfortunately, this dish is "loads of anti-nutrient laden Alkaloids.... Tomatoes and peppers are in the "nightshade" family.
Israeli for sure
I'm sorry but the end of result looked disgusting. 🤢 And it has been said that the Mediterranean diet is one of the healthiest diets you can practice, but if I had to go on it I would probably just decide not to eat.
Looks disqusting
That’s not nice 🙄
Wtf!!! Smdh
Haha..learn how to at least spell a word before you insult!
