  • I finally got around to building the Cougar. I had been dragging my feet a little bit just because I have heard so many say it has some difficult parts to assemble. Overall it went together just fine but was vastly different from the kits I normally build so there was a learning curve! I have gotten it done since this and it looks fantastic! I’ll be getting that posted soon!
    You guys are all awesome and I appreciate all the great comments and questions from everyone. Really enjoying talking to you all in the comments section.

    A bench without tools have never had anything built on it I'm releived to see mines not the only bench in disarray that's a very interesting kit a sheet metal chassis I've never seen that before keen to see the finished paint job whatever you do with it will look awesome 👊

      Man, I had almost every one of them out on the bench for this one! It was a fun and interesting build and very different from the Tamiya and Kyosho builds I am used to! The metal plate/tub chassis is super rigid and I think will really be great out on the track! I like the paint job, it is not box art but I used the box art colors and let the body lines tell me what to do and where to go! I like it and I think you all will too! You should see it soon!

    Hi there Addam, a great build of the legendary Schumacher kit, I remember my Schumacher BossCat, back in the 90’s, so miss that. Oh yes, us Brits, we have strong grip 😂😂😂 it because in the UK, a deal is sealed on a handshake and grip determines, how confident you are 😂😂so always strong grip, strong fingers. The Schumacher’s are a really highly tuned kit, you’re going to notice the handling on your track, I’m sure of it. Best wishes to you all 😊😊😊

    • @AddamsPlayground

      LOL so true though! I have found out since that the little tool they give you in the kit for the u-joint assembly also helps you put the ball cups on there. It was so kind of them to tell me that in the manual!!! LOL!!! That would have been a very nice little suggestion they could have included in there to save my finger tips! O'well, I know for next time!
      It is a very quality kit and I am sure it will do very well out on the track. It was a lot different from the Tamiya and Kyosho kits I am used to building so that was the struggle of the build was to learn a whole new way of doing things!

    Yes Addam! Thanks for the shout out brother! Glad that I am not the only one left scratching my head at times during this build.
    Sounds like me you didn’t realise that the hook at the other end of that groovy too lol for the universals also helps with the turnbuckles! 😁
    I am sure there is a a way to get a standard pack in there pal. Mine is running fine on my NIMH packs. I will send you some pictures of mine so you can see.
    Great to have another Cougar buddy and man that paintwork looks sweet 🙌🏻👍🏻

      It was a lot different building this than most of the other kits I have built. I know they all have their own way of doing things but Schumacher really did their own thing even more so than most. I enjoyed putting together something so different but in doing so my go-to bag of tricks was not really too helpful! I did not realize that was what that was for!! I don't remember that from any of the videos I watched and of course they don't mention it in the manual! LOL!! My fingers were sore!!!
      I got an inexpensive shorty pack for it, I could use one for other cars as well so it worked out and will probably help it out on the track! I really like the paint job. It is not box art but used the box art colors and it turned out nice! You will see it fairly soon!

      It was a very different kit from what I am used to so there was a lot of learning new things and new ways of doing things in there. It was a fun build build but the trusty old bag of tricks I have for Tamiya and Kyosho kits was tossed right out the window with this one!! LOL!!
      The servo saver was the most alien thing I seen on a kit and we had a disagreement on how it was going to work and it lost that fight and was quickly replaced with something that made sense!! The o-ring wing mount and I had a long and heated battle battle but I won that one! I don't recall cursing an assembly step quite so much in the past! I felt like it was trying to do fine, delicate surgery with your elbows!!! LOL! Too many tiny little things all in one tiny little spot being control by the blunt sausage fingers was not a great combo! LOL!!
      it looks great and I am looking forward to showing you all!

      It is challenging as it goes together much differently than the Tamiya and Kyosho kits many of us are used to. I think after building one another from their lineup would not be anywhere near as challenging. The circlips in the shock bases was a whole new thing but went together well!

    Good work bud. It's definitely a different sort of build from the usual kit. I agree it needs a few tweaks from the box ( I have a servo saver on the way ). The oils feel wrong to me as well. Overall...its a beautiful buggy and looks fast sitting still. Should make for some good fun this year.

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  Рік тому +1

      Thanks! I agree, the main thing that is hard about the kit is that it is so different to the Tamiya and Kyosho kits we are used to building. There is a lot of "outside the box" things on there it takes a bit to understand what is going on and why they did it that way. It is a vert sturdy and solid race buggy and I think it is going to do very well out on the track! I think it will really do well on your track, mine is a good bit rougher and bumpier so those shock may get me out of shape more.
      That servo save and me did not see eye to eye at all and got tossed quickly!! I am going to run the stock oil as I am sure they know more about the buggy than I do but it does feel excessively slow. it may be the winning ticket who knows!
      It is a great looking buggy and you are right, sitting there it just looks fast! I am happy with the paint job I put on there, it is not box art but I used the box art colors and let the body lines tell me what to put where! I am excited to show that to you all!

      It is a fun and interesting kit to put together. I think the frustrating part of it it that it is so different from the Tamiya and Kyosho kits we are generally used to so the old bag of tricks for them gets tossed out the window! It is not the bad type of frustration but more of the figuring it out as you go along and trying to understand it bits of frustration. It was fun and I had a great time with it (besides the servo saver and the wing mount, those are a pain!!) and I am sure you will have a great time with it. I held off as I was a bit intimidated by it but now that it is done I am really happy I got it. I think it is going to drive great on the track! I just found out in the comments the little tool they give you for the u-joint assembly also helps with the rod ends as well.... wish I knew that a while ago!! LOL! The little hook end is supposed to grab the cup and help you assemble them... I know for the next one!

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  Рік тому

      The bags actually make it really easy to build, you get exactly what you need for each step! It is not overly challenging to actually build, I think it is just so different to the common one s like Tamiya and Kyosho that it makes it more confusing at first since it is so different in design. You'll do fine with it, just take what you have learned from everyone's videos and be prepared. I won't lie there are some fiddly bits but being prepared for them is very helpful. I just found out in the comments the little tool they give you for the u-joint assembly also helps with the rod ends as well.... wish I knew that a while ago!! The c clips are easy without plyers, just hold one side in with your finger and run the rest around and in with a small screwdriver. You will love the classic belt drive sound when you run it. So quiet and smooth. I raced an RC10 back when these first came out and they were super rare, maybe one in a field of 30 associated and losi's, but they were so quiet around the track always made me want one.

    The best way to fit the servo saver is a nice dunk shot in the bin 😂 the tool you use for the drive shafts can be used to wind the ball cups on aswell 👍 i agree with the suspension, i built the 1st one as kit but it was a little to hard, so dropped the oil down 50. Im building one for my mate and going to see if adding a 1mm hole to the piston helps 🤔 i’ll be looking into the layshaft aswell. Seen a few fail, the oag-rc had his fail. But ive built a few of these now so there a pleasure to build 😂

      Yeah the servo saver was completely alien to me and we had some words and it lost the fight! Yeah, I found that little tip out today in the comments about the little tool... shame they can't mention that in the instructions when you go to put it together like they do in the driveshaft steps!! Now I may get another one eventually, my fingers were pretty sore by the time I got all them twisted on!! I am glad I am not the only one that thinks the shock react too slowly. I will giver it a run as is and then I am sure I will be going down in weight on the shock oil as well! Yeah, I am hopeful everything is good with the drivetrain, getting parts for these over here can be rather difficult and slow. Fingers crossed it all stays the way it should and I don't need any parts!

My cousin and especially his friend were really into the competitive cars back in the late 80's and early 90's and I know my his friend owned a Schumacher. They were high end cars from the UK. I used to see them listed in black and white photos and I think you could buy them from Tower Hobbies but back then I was really worried about getting spare parts as they were not exactly common in your local hobby shops. What TX/RX do you use? I see the RX's in your videos. I mostly use the DumboRC or Flysky because they are really good and inexpensive. Looks like a nice brushed motor. I run Spektrum radio gear, mostly because I am kind of married to it! I am very used to it as well. I get the knock off receivers from China for about the same price as the Flysky or Dumbo ones so other than the cost of the radios it is fairly cheap. These retro sport motors are great! They look cool and run great and only cost about $15!! I prefer brushed over brushless as i know and understand them and they are so much cheaper! It is a cool kit but I know a lot of folks have had transmission troubles with them, myself included! It made it about half a battery pack and it started to slip really badly. I though it was the ball diff but I tightened it up and took it back out and it was still slipping. Basically the layshaft gear it terribly weak starts to slip on the layshaft, the cross-pin just shreds it to pieces or in my case when you angrily hammer the throttle until it stops moving it welds itself to the layshaft!! LOL!

I have friends that have offered to get it and send it but I have not been bothered, I was pretty angry it broke right away for no good reason.
      I have seen a lot of fun racing with those little Mardave cars! I spent many years with only on or two cars at any given time. It is only recently I have been able to invest money into getting all the ones I have wanted for years and years. One of these day you'll get yours!

      @@AddamsPlayground Wow did not know about the gear train problems. Thanks for the heads up. Perhaps by the time I can get one they will have fixed it.

      Yeah, I realized that well after the fact and had already gotten the battery. It is fine, I can use the shorty pack in other builds as well so no loss! It will also help with keeping the weight down so it may do better out on the track!
