Hi Addam 👋 When we talk about money and hobbies, there will always be people in both camps. "Hell no, and, hell yes." Me, at least for the last couple of years, are in the first camp now.. There are so many companies, well, all of them in fact, and their only agenda is to rip our hard earned money from our pockets as fast as they can. They play on nostalgia, special and limited editions, special offers, good deals, and of course the fear of missing out.. I'm not gonna sit here and tell people where and how they should spend their money. All I'm saying is, it's okay not to buy "everything." And I think it's healthy not to be able to get everything.. Have that feeling of wanting something without getting it.. Take me just as an example, I used to be really into Lego, but now, with their ramped up prices and everything being more expensive, I had to make a choice. Lego or keeping the lights on. It was an easy decision. I would rather spend my money on more "healthy" things like coffee with family and friends. I know hobbies can help you health-wise, but not in the way we talk about it in this setting.. Anyway, a rant from me also.. Do whatever you want.. If you have the money, great. If you don't, it's easy. But if you are in the middle, think twice, don't just buy it because you're afraid to miss out... Take care Addam 😊
Extremely well put, not much more I can add to that. Gonna pin this one as it is a wonderful comment and I think one many of us collectors can relate to! Thanks for the great comment and take care and have a great rest of your week.
It’s so hard to not look for the next build. To slow down and revisit old stuff. It’s always what’s the next project and grinding through to get it done. At least for me
Yeah, there is always a new and tasty looking carrot hanging out there in front of us!!! Get one thing done and two new shiny and cool looking things are released... wash, rinse, repeat! LOL!
Good rant, Addam. I'm with you on the AE situation. It kinda started off ugly and it's not getting any better. The broccoli edition was a real head scratcher! 🤦♂️
That green thing was so confusing to me, I still have no idea why that happened. My only hope is in 6 months they will be half price and I can get one for a brushless runner. I will just strip the green off and rock the silver chassis!
Probably a mistake in the annodising department, instead of scraping the chassis, "Let's put this out as another overpriced, limited edition, bushing equipped, kit, that has had the tooling paid for for over 30 years.
Great video Addam. As I had seen the big time of the RC10s, I'm relly thinking of buying one. But that's it. No need foe meto have every version in the collection. The basic version would be enough for me. But that's maybe because we had not so many chances to get these cars here.
I know overseas they have been rather sparse and often over priced. Honestly they are probably over priced here but that is a whole other topic I won't go into. It is a really great RC and if you can get a 40th without breaking the bank I would say get it. It drives so well especially for such a very old design. It beat the time of many more modern and more powerful buggies around my track! I am sure they are going to keep coming so hopefully you will get a chance to get one. take care Dirk and have a great rest of your week!
Well said, Addam, I completely agree with your points regarding "market over saturation." In this instance, I feel quite fortunate. I haven't purchased any of the rc10 releases. At this point, I guess I am willing to go "all in" on a 4wd rc10
Yeah, them releasing 9 different kits last year was just too much for folks to keep up with. I love they are doing re-re kits, but they need to simmer down and do them at a pace that is a bit more sustainable for the buyers of them to keep up with. We had a big year overall with releases and I think that added to the problem of wanting more than I can afford as well. I hate passing on cool releases but it is just feasible to keep throwing money into it and not being able to build them all! I am still curious about the 4wd drive and their are speculation it is going to be a full kit with them partnered up and other speculate it is a upgrade kit going to be sold by MIP for the RC10. I think sales wise doing it as a full kit would be better as I would prefer to do it all at once and not have to get just the upgrade and then a kit for me to do the build on. Either way it is gonna be pricey!
I agree, they’ve gone mad churning them out. I’ve lost interest before even building them. Decided to say goodbye to the RC10CC, RC10 Gold Pan and RC10T. All new in box still.
Oooofff that is rough, I have not gotten that frustrated with it. I have a terrible time letting things go so selling things give me the icky! LOL! Seem like there is a lot of disinterest in the recent ones from across the board. I expect those green ones to be closeout priced in 6 months as they are going to be sitting on a lot of dead inventory with those silly things. I am sure someone at AE is going to get yelled at for that idea! It was great they decided to do the re-re kits but all of them so close together was too much and it seems to be backfiring on them.
@ I’m not frustrated, just don’t care about building one now, kind of lost interest. Never been an AE guy and got caught up in the hype when they came out. They seem to be a pain to build too.
@@jason.bochniak The CC was due to the hard plastic but some shock oil lubing the threads worked well. The 40th just had issues with the Instructions (as did the CC). They are terrific buggies to drive but if you did not desire one as a kid I can see where it becomes a mehh kit after the buzz wears off!
Interesting talk Addam. Money is currently tight, over here in the UK at least...... cost of living has gone through the roof! I try not to get suckered into the clever marketing of these companies, especially the whole limited edition thing. Since getting back into the hobby I have tried to streamline my collection to only models that I really want, or wanted as a kid. Maybe 3 or 4 new kits a year max..... money and storage space is limited. I actually get a lot more pleasure out of buying up vintage wrecks and slowly restoring them bit by bit. I've also come to realise that I get more fun out of a lot of the cheaper stuff.... I run my Fazer, DT02, lunchbox, monster beetle etc far more than I do the higher end cars like the Avante, Top force Evo, Turbo optima etc. There's so much choice out there now for the consumer, and you are right, it can become overwhelming if you don't stay focused on your own goals/points of interest. Sometimes if we get too much stimulation it fries our brains and we end up doing nothing!! Team associated are definitely firing hard, but ironically Tamiya on the other hand have really failed to deliver in my mind this year. There's so much potential demand for a re re of many of their vintage models that just seems to be getting ignored! If they re releasesd the king cab, Monster racer, MO1 Monte Carlos Mini, and Avante 2001 tomorrow I would buy all four instantly! 😂 As for the RC10...... Still looking for a second hand original that has interesting race history that I can rebuild, at least there should be plenty of parts available now! Although despite what I have just said, I'd be lying if I was to say that I haven't been ever so slightly tempted by the Brockley...... simply as we are 'Green' Hawks! 😂 👍 👍
Ok I would make the exception for you guys getting the green edition solely due to the channel name! Other than that it is a terrible release from them. If they go on closeout pricing in 6 months I may be tempted to get one and strip the green and turn it into a reasonably powered brushless runner. You are right on the over stimulus thing, I got fried and have not gone down and tinkered with anything since Thanksgiving day a week ago to cut out the decals for the 956. So it has been about 2 weeks since I really have done anything RC related other than edit videos! I will find the mojo for it and get back down there. I am starting to weigh the overall fun factor of the RCs now. I have built so many that buying a $400 kit to buy and then sit on the shelf or buy 2 or 3 kits for the same 400 and double or triple the building but more than likely sit on the shelf or get a RTR and drive it as much as I want as hard as I want as I have nothing invested in it and don't have to worry about it breaking as it is designed to get thrashed around. I also have so many it is getting harder to justify adding more. I think my midlife crisis is having a mid life crisis! LOL! Whatever happen will get recorded and uploaded either way so I have no plans of leaving just kind of reevaluating what I am doing. Take care my friend and have a great weekend coming up!
@AddamsPlayground Yep, sometimes we have to take a step away and re evaluate buddy. Ensure you take a break from RC and making content over the festive period..... Spend time with your family and de clutter your fried brain. You will return in the new year fresh, focused and full of inspiration! Have a great weekend matey. 😊 👍 👍
I think for me just buy the ones you want you don’t have to buy every RC10 release 😊 just my opinion.. great update Addam.. don’t worry buddy.. I haven’t bought any RC stuff for a long time but still enjoy learning and watching about the hobby.. we did our Christmas decorations at the weekend to 😊 ❤ Pete 👍👍
Yeah, the realist in me knows I cannot get them all, the collector in me (the one with a lot of issue) really would love to have all of them! LOL! I already spend too much as is and it can be frustrating to have to pass up on cool ones coming out but unless I win the lottery (that I never play) I am stuck on a budget! I need to work on the pile of things I have to do here and not worry about the new shiny things, they are so distracting though LOL! We are slowly decorating a little each day, I like it more when little by little over a week or so the house transforms! Take care Pete and have a great rest of your week!
Interesting viewpoints on the re-releases. For “damage”-control, I restrict myself to collect only 4WD buggy/ baja from the “golden era”. Wade Skelton’s channel has a v cool 4WD RC-10 conjured with using bespoke CNC metal/printed resin parts based on his homebrew CAD designs. There’s certainly significant interest in it which caught Team-A’s attention, Fan RC’s graphite kit as well. It would be amazing if Wade comes up with custom parts to combine both TA’s graphite and 4WD kits into one graphite-4WD RC10!
I don't know if he is ever going to try another 4wd conversion again. I think by the end of that last one he was very much over it all and just prayed it all held together for the brief run! Custom stuff can be fun but making things that technical and exact can get frustrating and tiresome quickly! I am looking forward to possibly getting the graphite version. The 4wd is still to up in the air to know if that is really going to be a thing. Some say it will be a full kit and other say it will be a retrofit kit from MIP. time will tell. If it is a retrofit kit I am not sure I will get one.
If i was a collector i would totally be annoyed at all these different versions 🙄 I can usually only buy 2-3 RCs a year so my budget is super tight and stick to RCs i will use.
Yeah, it is a little frustrating but in the end it is just toy cars and not a huge deal. I know some folks are frustrated they bought one version and then another comes along they would rather have a lot more but the budget is not there to get it. I totally understand the tight budget issues as well, there were many years I was barely able to keep the 3 or 4 I had running as parts is about all I had the budget for. That too is frustrating when all these cool new kits are coming out and I was still running a clapped out Rustler to death! LOL!
I picked up the Toyota Land Cruiser quad track. Looks like a fun build. I think the associated kits look nice but the amount of them and how similar and how close together they came out is crazy. Keep up the good work on this channel.
I really thought about getting it just to have one kit here on tracks (besides the tanks). I have the same body GF01 kit I got on sale from them in the spring time I have yet to build so that kind of made me say no. Mostly I have just been spending wayyyyy too much money and need to take a step back and reevaluate what I am doing. I have been ignoring kits and restorations I have had on shelves for almost a year as I keep buying more and more. Needed to pump the breaks and start looking harder at the reasons I am buying things, is it real desire and excitement or just a a knee jerk "oh look at that" impulse buy! The RC10s are great kits, they really are but at $400 or more a pop they are just too many and not enough to get them all. I am going to keep going but maybe at a different pace and not fighting to get the newest and shiniest thing that shows up! I am not going anywhere anytime soon!
RC 10 is cool, and I remember it from when my dad and brother raced. But the Kyosho turbo optima and Schumacher cat xls are cars that I’d spend money on. Oh and a Bigwig
It is a really great running buggy but I can't justify getting all of them, way too expensive! The Turbo Optima is great as well and I know little of the Schumacher kits other than my Cougar Classis was a let down and is still broken in a box! LOL! The Bigwig, I was hopeful that was going to happen this year but it did not, maybe next year we will get another run of them. It is one I would definitely add to the collection!
Cost of living in the UK is too much to be dropping crazy money on an RC car, especially as I seem to have the most fun with less expensive RC's. That release schedule is crazy though! You make some good points Addam. Merry Christmas 🎄
I am hearing that from all over, everything is so expensive it is really cutting into the fun stuff a lot. Same thing is happening here, I am really going to have to start slowing down as the fun money is running short for sure. Merry Christmas to you as well!
Great video Addam. I agree with a lot of what you said dude. I think TA might have got away with it if they had spaced things out. I think there will be some keen prices on the RC10 models next year. You should try the TD2 pal. It is a lovely build and a great drive mate 👍🏻
Thanks Craig, I think some of it is that last year was just huge pile of releases and re-releases and then when AE came in guns blazing it kind of overwhelmed everyone and tough choices had to be made! We will see what next year brings, could be more could be less, sadly my budget isn't getting any bigger LOL! I will see if the TD2 is still available after the holidays and I may grab it. I am hoping maybe one or two of them are still there by then!
There is to many deals i want them all to i have been trying to do small rcs i still have 2 rc10 gold pans i need to restore I'm annoyed my pre ordered Hornet evo is on back order
Yes, it seems this year has been the year of new releases and it has been expensive! So many cool kits and RTRs it makes it very hard to figure out what to get and what to pass on. Space is becoming a premium as well so that is making me be a bit more selective as well. I know you are cramped for space too! That suck that your EVO went to back order, I need to check on mine as I have not seen any movement on my order as well! I would be really bummed if that ended up being the case for me as well.
Iv been blank for a few months, having eye issues.everything I order doesn't fit or defect In 7:27 someway or another. Fryed a receiver the other day, gutted a nd fryed the power wire. 😬🥴
Well that stinks! I hope the eye thing gets sorted soon, that is not good. The RC gremlins do seem to pile up on you from time to time. I know I have had stretches where everything I touch seems to break, glitch, go wrong or fall apart so I understand that feeling. Hopefully the streak has ended and things will start working out better! Again, hope the eye issues improve for you.
I like this kind of videos. That's why I doing my Porsche 956 videos that are, and will be, so many and quite long. It's time to sit down and stop listening to another human speaking about our passino. It's nice to learn., listen relaxing and discover new points of view. Thanks for it. Ciao from Italy!!
Thanks Nanni, I am glad you enjoyed it. I can ramble on for days so no lack of babbling to offer from me! LOL! Take care and have a great rest of your week my friend!
Yes, I am glad that associated is coming out with the kits But it's too much at once i've got the rc10t and Jay Halsey. I like to get the four wheel drive rc10 but I think you right It's going to be a expensive. And I have 75 rc kits that I built.😮
Yeah, it seemed like the slowness of the first two kits to get to everyone soured the releases and then it has been another after another afterwards and folks can't keep up and are frustrated they got one version and another comes out they would rather have but now don't have the cash on hand for them. I am not sure why they all of a sudden decided they were going to do them all but they need to pace it and change it up a little more than they have. Th 4wd sounds really cool but I have a feeling the price is going to hurt. I could be wrong but I doubt AE is going to take a profit cut for MIP to make money from it by themselves s I ampretty sure it going to be the kit rice plus MIPs cut on top. We will see and I just cross my fingers I am wrong! 75 kits to build! I thought I have a backlog LOL!!!
As a kid in the 1980s US I had the iconic double page advertisement taped to my bedroom wall. My hobby store only had Tamiya as far as I remember. The chance to have one now intrigues me. I’m in the camp of people they’re marketing too. That said, for price points over 250 $USD (before paint, electrics etc.) I’m looking for an interesting build experience or body to paint with part support options. For example the Sand Scorcher, Rough Rider and Fighting Buggy, or something 4WD to spend on upgrade. The RC10 seems a little simpler, which is appealing in its own way, but what is the money going to… Seeing the same kit with minor variations also makes me wonder if Associated has an innovated back catalog to draw from. I’ve seen lots of vintage Tamiya and Kyosho catalogs that document their history, but I haven’t seen associated catalogs from the 1980s-90s.
I had the same pictures hanging up as well, most notably the trophy girl one! I did get two vintage ones before the re-re but i still wanted the re-re as I never got to build one from scratch. I will build the 40th sometime as well but since the CC was done right before I moved onto other things. I am going to try to clear the backlog before getting to many more. The RC10 is a great driving buggy, you would be surprised on how well it handles for such an old platform. They are rather tough too, my vintage one has taken some bad landings and tumbles with no complaints so far. I am not sure how their releases play into the timeline as the DS came out well after some of the others so they are not following a timeline that I can tell. I hate to grumble as we have been wanting re=re kits for years. They have just kind of thrown to many at us in a short period of time. I am just going to see what happens and get what I can!
I’d be happy getting the gold pan and calling it good…most likely by the time I’m ready to get one, they’ll be gone lol…With the Novafox, Hornet Evo, fast attack vehicle and rally beetle, I’ve got plenty to keep me busy! Nice update Addam!👍😊
Yeah, it was a very busy year for great releases and that may be part of the feeling overwhelmed also. I think there will be some good ones next year as well but I see the trend slow down both from the horrible economy and it being a bit oversaturated. I may be wrong and welcome the new stuff, I am just going to have to be a bit choosier on what to get going forward. I have a big pile here I need to work on as well and need to slow down taking in new ones to get to all of those. I am hoping for more kits in the $150 range where getting them does not hurt the bank account so much! LOL! Take care and have a great rest of your week.
Ha ha I was thinking about the RC10 they make so many green gold clear orange this that and the next thing we think of next? They must be making a killing on them if they are going this bonkers with the RC10! I don't know about a 4wd one just seems funky to me for a RC10.
They should have skipped the green one all together, I have no idea how the brussels sprout edition made it into production! LOL! I think they should have done the CC, the 40th and the RC10T this year and been done with it. Then release maybe one like the graphite for this Christmas and start over next year with the DS, the Halsey and the Team car next year. Spacing them out would have made more sense to me but I guess I am not in global RC marketing either LOL! Maybe I should be... The 4wd one is all speculation but seems like it may be a thing coming out. Some have said it is going to be the whole kit and others say it is just the kit to make it 4wd from MIP. Time will tell, honestly I am more interested in the graphite or a Kinwald edition myself!
I hear you Bruv, I'm UK and I was ready radio race car magazine when rc10 was the champion. and Schumacher top cat, anyway when AE said years ago they re-re the world's I was on it and I thought me and all the vintage rc10s had something special. Now I'm bored of the rc10 and for some reason rc in general, my kit or any rc10 doesn't mean what it used to mean. The gold pan re-re 40th fine, the rest bored the living daylights out of me. Tamiya, kyosho, Schumacher, yokomo, all rammed re-re's. I have 10+ rc cars most vintage, I was their customer but I bought nothing because I think it was system overload shutdown, now I need a forced recovery
Yeah I get it, RC burnout is real. I fight with it and I have tried to force my way through it and and ignore it and the best thing to do is just walk away and come back to it when that spark comes back. Sometimes it is a day or two and sometimes it is weeks or months. Like you I grew up seeing all of these in the magazines and I made "daydream builds" out of all of them in my head. Getting to do them now is still a great thing but too much of a great thing can be a bad thing as well! I am finding I have to pace myself both in the hobby and the spending, both can get you burnt out but it is easier to take a break from building and videoing than it is spending money as the bills still have to be paid so I am having to be mindful of both LOL!
Blue tape on the bottom of the chassis... great idea! 🙂 I'll have to remember that if/when I finally run any of mine outside 👍🙂 Good 'rambling' video. Nice to hear your thoughts. Hope you have a great Christmas 🙂🙂
Temporary chassis protector! It works great just double or triple coat the front and rear where they get the most scratches and then it all peels off and it is still like new! Glad you enjoyed the ramblings Take care and have a wonderful Christmas season as well!
I liked the Grom series of RC but really like the Granite however it’s not brushless yet. So I have a Mohave Grom coming with some Granite type wheel/tires. Probably will need to make body mods but ready for some small scale bashing. I also grabbed a stunt tank RC Birds has teased. Other than that, happy with what I have already and probably have a year or two worth of projects. Just slowly enjoying the hobby with some fun tangents.
Well you got your hands full over there keep up with the 3 kids and all their activities so I know RC time is few and far between for you. I am glad you are still enjoying it though. The Granite Mega was a great deal, I almost got a pair for my son in laws but we had a strict budget cap this year and I was not going to get in trouble for breaking it! LOL! While I say it is a great kit it also would have been a money pit for you. It need fans for the motor and esc it also is a lot more fun on brushless power and that means diffs may need to be upgraded and then you have a way more expensive 3s one like mine! LOL! The little Mojave is great for work breaks and even work trips and out goofing around in the yard! I think you will have a lot of fun with it! Keep having fun and have a great rest of your week!
I'll stick with my 'budget' Tamiyas thank you. I have so much fun with them and don't mind if they get wrecked. I totally understand your frustration Addam, sometimes these companies get lazy and try to find ways to grab our hard earned cash. Happy RCing Addam. Take care.
I hate tearing up any of them now but I know what you are saying! The RC10s are definitely more collection and build experience than anything else and I don't think I need to collect and build them all, I would love to but not feasible to do it! I am happy they decided to do the re-re kits and that they are doing different ones but it is just too many too fast for us to keep up with. I am just having to make the tough decision to be an adult with my money and not let the little kid in me buy all of them!! LOL! Take care and have a great rest of your week.
If they had paced things a little more I think folks would have kept up the excitement a lot more. I hate to grumble as they finally doing re-re kits but it is very overwhelming and frustrating to have to pass up on many of them due to the speed of delivery. I am hoping the releases slow down a bit next year, across the board as there were may too many last year to keep up!
I'm getting num to the hobby with all the re releases. I'm more of a vintage AE collector and Team Associated/Thunder Tiger killed the fun with too many kits the past year. I agree with you 100%...
I know you were on the "team no more" side! It has been a super full year of releases, both new and re-re. I am not sure if it will be as much next year or not, I am thinking things will slow down some.
@@AddamsPlayground Praying AE stops for my sanity. Im way too deep into my vintage RC10's not to get all the rerelease. I roll my eyes when people say just don't buy them. Don't want to pay double on Ebay in a few months time looking for the kits I didn't get.
Hi Addam! To be honest over in the UK this Associated barrage of rereleases has had no real impact as far as I can see. I understand your frustrations though pal! Seems ridiculous to keep releasing slightly different versions in such a short timescale, I don't know what they were thinking! ($$$$$$!!!!) I agree with you on this one mate and I'll stick to building the odd Tamiya now and again and try to avoid breaking the bank! Take care my friend! 😎👍
I know it was a struggle getting them over there in the first place so I am sure a lot of interest was lost from that. It is really cool they got into the re-re market but but they need to learn how to pace themselves like Tamiya and Kyosho do. Come out with a few a year and not oversaturate the market. I hope that they don't bury themselves and stop doing doing it as I would like to see new (old) stuff keep coming but 3 a year is more than enough! Take care and have a wonderful week my friend!
I think just the fact that we can talk about an RC 10 is a good thing. I had my chance to buy one in the 80s working at a hobby shop and for some odd reason I decided to go with an RC 10 L. I’ve always regretted that over the last 40 years or so was looking to find a decent runner. Only recently did I finally pick up, an anniversary kit, which is still in the box along with 20 other kids I haven’t put together yet. I may get around to it. I may not. I just like knowing I have them for maybe someday when I’m retired. I can start assembling them for now the ready to run cars have my attention which is more plentiful than time to build. I don’t think it’s much different than what associate is doing with the element. They keep releasing that truck in different versions. I do like that we have options. I don’t need to buy every single kit, but what I am hoping and what I am waiting for 1/10 scaleJRX 2
I do hate to complain that they are doing them. I am appreciative they are finally re-releasing kits. I just wish they could let us catch our breath before another one hits the shelves. If they were cheap kits like the Tamiya TT02 then it would not be a big deal, but for collectors that want to get the cool tribute cars it makes it very hard to keep up the pace of the releases. I know they do the same with their RTRs, they seem to enjoy having a ton of kits sitting on shelves as I keep seeing the element and AE RTRs on sale all the time but never seem to sell out. I guess what they are doing works but it is making a lot of the folks that were excited for the re-re kits to come out tired a frustrated with the all at once rush they have with them. Don't hold your breath for 1/10 Losi kits. Them seem to refuse to do them and seem to want to live in the land of minis. I would love one too but think I will win big in the lottery before they make one!
@ Tamiya hit me hard this last year with some new arrivals and some older favorites. I had to get the grey clod, bbx, blockhead motors, wild one, Porsche 956, monster beetle, Mercedes C11, Porsche 911 and Tyrell P34, and. The Golf Mk1its hard to keep up but I feel if I dont get them now, they’ll be out of production
Great "rant" Cheers Addam from this Aussie in China, and I feel like the RC10 has run its race, I was excited and bought and built the clear but I don't need color variations of the same thing.
The CC was really awesome, something never done before and unique. The 40th was cool and one folks have been wanting since the last run of them many years ago. The RC10T was really cool although a bit close to the 40th. The barrage of everything else coming fast and furious since has been a bit overwhelming! I cannot even try and keep up with them, I guess I could but everything else would be ignored and they are cool but do I need 6 flavors of the same lollypop?
I missed the rc10 clear. I bought two rc10b6.4 clears. Stupid. 2 rc10 gold pans. Stupid. 2 rc10ts. Stupid. One Halsey. One green. I want the ds but I’m broke. Would love the team car but can’t afford now. I definitely wasted my money. The goal was to build each one and keep sealed one for display also. I need to be rich!!!!! You’re rant is extremely valid for associated. Wish I could have got some of those tamiya deals. Crazy good deals. I definitely need to sell some. Hahaha. Keep up the great videos!!!! Rants and running videos are great!!!!!!
I did get two of the CC kits as I felt it is was so cool and unique and it felt like a one and done venture for them so the NIB may be worth a lot in a few years. It still may be but it does not look like it currently. I got the 40th and the 10T but only one of each. The frequency and price of the kits just made it impossible to keep up and then we also had a big year for releases in general so Tamiya still got a bunch of my money too! I the fear of missing out got a lot of us in trouble this year as we found it was not sustainable due to the high cost of being alive at the same time! LOL! We will see what next year brings, I know I am really going to have to pace myself throughout the year though. Take care and have a great weekend coming up!
Hey Addam! I am pretty much in the middle. I think these re re cars were super cool and then the CC dropped. Wow, what an idea! But over all once they dropped a third type of CC Model. I was over it. There is pretty much one of each kit I would buy and build if I could afford it. Other than that, money grab city baby!! Take care my friend!
Yeah, I don't know why they all of a sudden decided to do everything all at once! I am sure it is easy to keep cranking out the chassis since the tooling is all set up but overloading the market with so many has hurt them I think. We will see what happens and I am sure I will get another but at the high prices it is not going to be a ton of them!
It's a fair rant IMO and totally agree with you definitely should have space it out or just give a couple of options as 2wd and 4WD take care buddy have a good one
I mean I do feel a bit bad complaining as they are doing what everyone has wanted for years. I just wish they could have done a better job not throwing another one at us every 6 or 7 weeks. I would love to have all of them but with all the other kits coming out it and it seems like they are increasing in rate some as well it is just overwhelming! I am just taking stock of what I have and really looking at the releases with a much more critical wallet!
I appreciate the content. I'd be cool with one to drive an one to keep pretty of the same vehicle. I haven't ever thought about getting 3 of the same. I guess I like having the option of getting another, but can make it confusing sometimes.
I have very few duplicates, other than the custom ones of course. I do have multiple gold pans and two Raiders. I have one vintage shelf queen and one runner of both. the new ones I really don't have plans of running since I have the vintage runner that is a bit scraped and scratched up to run around with without worries. I would love to be able to afford 3 of everything, one runner, on shelf queen and one NIB but until I hit the lottery I am going to have to settle for 1 of each (if that) and treat them well! LOL!
@@AddamsPlayground😮yeah that's hardcore I never thought of keeping a 3rd in the box. That's real collecting🏆. The gold pan is the big lifesize one that goes to shows sometimes? That things neat the spikey tires on it an everything crazy seeing the lunch box van an red sand scorcher beetle I saw in a video before 👍
@meirdeaph check out Kai City RC and his last video. He was at an event in Japan and they had the full sized XR311, monster beetle and fast attack vehicle there. The xr311 is super cool looking
I was definitely overwhelmed with all the emails, I almost picked up a comical grasshopper myself but I was like either I spend way too much money and then regret it or I just don’t purchase anything right now but will get to it when I can
Yeah, best to get them when you can and maybe spend a few more buck than cave to pressure of getting that discount and spending more than you need to at the moment! Tamiya runs sales randomly so in another 4-6 months they will have another handful on sale.
I couldn't agree more. The kid in me loves that box art image of the gold rc10 ... So I had that printed at Fdx office to put up in the garage. I spent the money I would have dumped in a Jay Halsey roller and bought an Arrma Mohave 4s and love it!!!
@@davidm8584 I had many of the RC10 ads plastered on my walls as a kid! Especially the trophy girl and... I am kind of wanting that 4s Mojave right now as well. The little one looks so cool running around and the big one looks like it moves and drives very much the same just scaled way up. Maybe after the holidays I will look to add one. Everyone I have talked to that owns one said they loved it.
@@AddamsPlayground I watched that video... Loved that track you have 🤔 the straight would be extra cool with a small jump for some wicked air.... Kinda like the rc10 box art 😄
@@davidm8584 I do need to add in some msall jumps. I want to make them moveable though as I want to be able to run with or without and also be able to run the rally cars out there. I intended to do it this summer but every time I went to get the materials they were out of stock. I am going to make them out rot proof stuff so I can leave them outside and not worry about them getting ruined.
I hear you on the spending justification! I was really hyped on the TD4 (I know, I know...) but they are stupid expensive in Canada so I never pulled the trigger. When I saw them on sale last week I tried to buy one from Tamiya USA but they simply do not accept purchases from Canada...even if I use a US shipping address. The billing address must be the same as the shipping address. I thought about asking a friend in the US to help me but you know what, do I really need it? When will I run the TD4? Where will I run it? How many cars do I need? Etc... I came to the realization that I don't want the fun part of an RC to just be the acquisition or just the build...I want to enjoy driving it. I already have too many kits waiting to be built and too many kits I have not driven in forever. That was a long way to go to say "I can relate", huh? 😋
All good, I am kind of crossing that bridge here as well. I only have time and space for so many and both of those are running low at the moment! My wallet has also been screaming at me to play with the ones I have here! It is hard to break the cycle, wish it was as easy to break as a vintage Tamiya is! LOL Take care my friend and have a terrific rest of your week pondering you future bad decision making habits!
Hey Addam p, I saw the title heading, rambling, rant etc…I said to myself, ‘I’m in 😂🤣😂’ I’m with you with the value for money vibe, RC10’s of costs equal to vs buying cheaper alternatives and RTR’s fun for your bucks 😊😊. I’ve managed to source the Saint Dragon, Manta Ray and Lancia 037 for reasonable prices. We too are seeing the TD2,TD4 on sale at crazily lower prices, than when they were launched. 😊 I’m starting to get a bit fed up with UA-cam too, viewing stats are starting to annoy me, I’m trying to resist, but being Taurean, it’s going to be 1,2,3 and light the blue touch paper and stand well back….well, the erase button anyway…😂😊😂so when I saw your rant title bit, that honed me in 😊😊anyway, I enjoyed the talking bit 😊😊best wishes to you and the family 🙏😎🙏
Hi there John, the bang for the buck is starting to weigh on me more and more. I can buy a $400 RC10 that will give me 4 or 5 hours of enjoyment building it and then sit on the shelf or I can buy two Tamiya kits that double that and may get driven more or buy a 3 or 4s ARRMA and run the wheels off of it! I honestly thought I was beyond the days of romping around and bashing about with them but now having so many sitting around they are becoming more entertaining to me. Maybe it is my midlife crisis of my midlife crisis LOL!! Don't fret the YT stats. Mine have been all over the place. One video does great and the next 3 or 4 are dismal and don't feel like it was worth making. Stick with it and things should come back around more after the holidays. As always feel free to reach out and talk off-line about it. Take care my friend and wishing you all the best as always!
I enjoy these updates you put on, hearing your thoughts on the Tamiya subjects helps put a perspective on their new re-releases. I do have a few Tamiya that I am looking at, just for my pleasure and enjoyment. I know that the Tamiya BBX will show up on the channel in the near future. I am like you with all these Black Friday deals and Cyber Monday deals, I did get one or two RCs from these deals. Thanks for the ramble and ranting, I'm pretty sure that there are a lot of RC enthusiast that share you thoughts and feelings. Take care and best wishes to you and the family.
Yeah, this year has been a very busy year for releases in general but the huge supply of deals and sales made it more overwhelming! I wanted to buy so many as there were a lot of great deals but the math didn't math out right! LOL! I am gonna have a couple under the tree this year but I did not go nuts! You'll see the chaos of it all when you get over here! LOL! Glad you enjoyed the rambling! Take care my friend!
I feel to many variants of one kit takes the excitement out of it. At one time so to say. And yes, where the H did the green come from? Lol. I like what you thought. Do different colored chassy's. There really pricy for me anyway. See ya on the next one.
Yeah, the first two were all the buzz they needed and could have done the rest further apart to not saturate the market with pricey kits folks can't keep up with. The green version was absolutely a terrible idea and I can see those sitting around for quite a while. In 6 or 8 months they will be all on sale trying to get them to move! Doing chassis sets would have been a much smarter move and probably more profitable for them. They are not cheap kits and I think that it the reason their are chocking themselves out with too many too soon, folks are getting frustrated they can't afford the last one let alone the next one coming. Who knows, we will see what happens. Take care and have a great rest of your week.
All the others were relevant and were cool to see, the green one was the weirdest thing I have seen in a while and I am still scratching my head over that move! I know they had to have panned all this and I guess they were trying to cram as much as they could into the 40th celebration but it seems like they have shot themselves in the foot some by doing to many too fast. I could be wrong but from what i am hearing a lot of folks have lost interest due to another flavor coming out every month or so. I wish they would say they are or are not going to have the 4wd as a kit. There are rumors it is going to be a full kit and some that it is going to be a hop-up kit offer from MIP for the stock chassis. I think a whole kit option would probably go over better but maybe with the influx of the new the kit would do well on its own.
As soon as everyone else is taken care of this Christmas I will be all over the Jammin Jay edition. I haven't picked up any re-re's yet so I dont feel too bad.
It is the best looking one so far. I may regret later not getting but it is what it is! I am sure they will continue to sell, well except the green one! I expect that to be on clearance in about 6 months or so. May be a good thing to pick up them for a runner!
The Jammin box "I believe " doubles as the center page advert shown in RC Car Action back in the day. I haven't heard it said yet, but I recognized it. Or what i was shown to be the box. @AddamsPlayground
@@Paul__FC I know it is some sort of display stand like the 40th had where you folded it back up inside out and the trophy site behind it. I have not seen the full interior of that one though.
Yeah, I just hope them jumping in head first and cranking them out like this does not backfire on them and they get stuck with a pile of inventory and then quit "because nobody bought them". I love that they got into the re-re game but they need to learn from others like Tamiya and Kyosho to stagger them a bit better. They have been asked for years for re-re kits and they delivered! Some, like the green one, that nobody asked for! LOL!
I can relate to your rc10 rant. Too many releases too fast.😂 In fact, the rerelease market is getting quite saturated with all the major rc Brand’s. I wonder how manny people are able to collect them all. Secretly hoping for prices to come crashing down cos it’s unlikely that they’ll all fly of the shelves.🤞😂
Yes, we had a tremendous year overall for new RCs both re-re and new stuff so it was slightly overwhelming in general! I love that they are doing the re-re kits but too many too fast seems like they are shooting themselves in the foot! I can definitely see that green kit getting the prices slashed a lot in about 6 months as they are going to be sitting on so many of them. That was the weirdest release of the year I think!!!
i do think I want the Team Car, it will be my first RC10 if I get it. I just want ONE to make a runner out of.... and to know that parts will be available for it.
I am thinking in 6 month or so those green ones will be selling at closeout prices so I may get one then and push a reasonable brushless system in it for a fun runner! I will probably strip the green from the chassis and rock it with a sliver one though!!
They are pricey kits but they are really nice ones. I was very surprised how well the RC10 drives after all these years and it ripped around the track faster than many newer kits could even come close to. It i not wonder they were champions for so may years and dominated the RC world with them. I would say wait another 6 months and looks for that green version to come down in price a lot!!! I am pretty sure they will still be sitting on a ton of inventory then and will be slashing prices to get them to move. Get one of those then and enjoy building and driving it!
Hey Addam! I love building kits but only stick to kits I will run. Budgeting with all these cool releases or sales is always a challenge. Like yourself my budget right before Christmas is non existent! Maybe after the holidays I can pick something up to review or build. Enjoyed the vid as always! 😊
Yeah, we always get personal property taxes, the holidays and all these extremely tempting sales all at the end of the year and it is rough on the checking account! I am wondering if next year is going to be as full of releases from everyone as this year was or is it going to slow down a little since it seems everyone is spending a little less at the moment in general due to all the other cost of living things that seem to keep going and going... Time will tell!
Hey, it never hurts to upload a rant video! I've done a few! Very good vid though regardless! Take some time off and don't worry about pumping out 2 big vids every week especially during the holidays!! :)
Thanks Ryan! At this point it is engrained in me to do it! I really don't have anything for Saturday and I am getting antsy and wound up as I feel that need to get something done for it! LOL! It may or may not happen, I know I will have some footage but not sure there will be enough time to edit and upload. It is a mind game I know and there is nobody making me do it but I feel responsible to do it, if that makes any sense. I am not stressing about it, I learned the hard way that is miserable and pointless. I am at the point now if it happens I am happy and if it doesn't I feel a bit bad but not upset and just go on about my life! LOL! Take care my friend and have a great weekend coming up!
@AddamsPlayground I've been doing this long enough to learn that you can't stress over UA-cam. You won't lose subs or see any meaningful drop in your channel views by taking off even a few weeks. You have to stop entirely for months before it will actually begin to hurt your channel.
Always love a good RC rant AE should learn from the Japanese how to slowly release old kits I decided not to buy any RC10's because it turned out i had to buy american type hex drivers to assemble it 😒🤓 FanRC makes _alot_ of RC10 parts including carbon graphite stuff
I agree, they just need to pace it and put a couple out in the first half, let them sell and then the second half release another couple and ride that slower train. Yeah, the standard size hardware is kind of pain, I live here and did not care for it! LOL! I have thought about getting one of the FanRC graphite Worlds kits, muck nicer materials for about the same price overall. they are showing out of stock currently where I would get it which is fine, I don't have that in the budget at the moment anyway!
I am on the same page with Associated. It is like they just want to get the rere’s done and move on. The problem is even if people do want them all, they cannot afford them at once and knowing Associated, they will discontinue them before people have the funds because they are not seeing the sales numbers they had hoped for.
Yeah, I think them coming out with guns blazing they ended up shooting themselves in the foot! I love that they finally decided to get on board with the re-re game but doing so many, so quickly has saturated the market and overwhelmed the folks wanting them. Like you said they are setting themselve up for a lot of stock to be sitting around for a while. Those green ones are going to be on clearance in 6 months as I cannot see many of those getting sold at all!
@@AddamsPlayground Yep, I'm so exhausted with rereleases and the hobby. Ignored every Black Friday email. I'm tired of it. Team Associated killed it for me.
Addam life is too busy sometimes to get motivated for sure! I am definitely taking time out from buying RC at the moment its just too expensive and we needed a real car as ours failed big time! Agree with what you have said too buddy. Take it easy my friend.
Ooooff, the full sized break down/full failure is no good at all! Was at least exciting and lots of banging, clattering and smoke or did it just decided to keel over in the driveway and not come back to life? I am hoping all that is behind you and things improve! I will to keep you entertained and distracted until you get back into the game! Take care my friend and I hope you have a great rest of your week!
@AddamsPlayground Thanks Addam yeah the car subframe was too bad to repair and dangerous it was a 20 year old car so not a surprise but a shock all the same as it had low mileage and with the wife doing care in the community it was not good. We have another car now but cost a bit and generally speaking money is tight at the moment so yep no more spending on hobby stuff for a while! Iol that's probably not a bad thing really! Anyway take it easy my friend Cheers James 🍻
Im with you on this, they really need to slow down. I got the 40th when it launched, and it went straigh out on the track, and it will be out again next year 🤞 the 10 T has sadly been moved on, but only as i had to have the halsey as a shelfer. Yes i could of just got the parts to dress the 40th. But i can have a dirty car on the shelf 😂 the only spare money i have is put aside incase the rumours are true about a cougar 2 works, i have to get that if it drips 😎
It was a very busy year overall with releases and then AE came out with guns blazing and took us all off guard! I should not complain as we have been asking for years for what we thought was never going to happen. I guess they wanted to give them all to us at once! LOL! I do agree with you that dirty cars are not allowed on the shelves!
Yeah I'm still trying to get used the shift I'm. Working and haven't had time to do anything in my hobby room I feel your pain...but I'm hoping that my friend whose going to Japan and I'm hoping Santa will bring me something from Tamiya store there 😮
Yeah, changing hours is rough and throws your whole world upside down! I know going from nights back to a regular shift messed me up for months and that was back when I was much younger! LOL! I hope Santa brings you something extra special back from Japan!!!
Yeah, a vintage and a tribute one is a great combo to have! I had to grab the 40th, I would have regretted not getting that one. I still have not opened the box so I don't even know what number I got.
Yeah I can get two of them for the prices of the RC10s and still have money for the electronics and paint! Kind of what i have been debating with myself. I can get another RC10 and enjoy the 4 or 5 hour build, drive it once and set it on ethe shelf or get two or 3 Tamiya kits and triple the build time, triple the run time and possibly have one I will drive often. Or drop that on another fun basher and drive the wheels off it and get back to the more fun side of driving them much more often. I think my midlife crisis is having a midlife crisis! LOL!
@ yeah I think in the same way, its about value. It’s how much build time and run time (fun) will I get for my money. Certainly something like the Hornet will get a lot of run time
Glad I didn't make the jump to more Associated stuff as I know what I am like! Going to stick with Tamiya stuff, mainly on road and steer away from the buggies. My bank balance would not cope if the RC10 had arrived here 😁
Yeah, it is a bit of bummer as I want them all (except for the green one, not sure what that was about) but in a way kind of happy two as they have kept me spending to much money on them overall by ringing them out so fast I cannot keep up so the interest has waned a bit. I would like the graphite kit and the 4wd but I am pondering the graphite kit still and who knows how pricey the 4wd one is going to be. I should probably just stick with the Tamiya stuff as well, I have my Gold Pan kits so those were the ones I desired so much as a kid, I don't need any more of them so if I do get another it will just be a bonus. Take care Glenn and have a great rest of your week my friend!
@AddamsPlayground Thank you 😀👍 i will do. Can't wait for the weekend... also just had a notification that a silly little something has arrived (non Tamiya.....!!!! 😲😲😲) haha... can't wait to get home. I am intrigued by the 4wd version though I must say .. Cheers for now
It has been a lot this year. you had the CC, the 40th, the RC10T, the RC10DS, the green version, the Yokomo YZ10 classic, the YZ10 blue version, the Jammin Jay, the Team car, possibly the graphite before the end of the year.... yeah, they kind of went nutso! I appreciate they are doing the re-re kits but they need to pace them a little more and stop wit the weirdo ones like the green edition! LOL!!
Associated is trying to cash in big time I'm just going to save up for the 4wd version I'm really digging that one ...I can always pick up the 2 wd anytime
I would really like the graphite version but like you, will probably start setting money aside for the 4wd version. I hope I am wrong about the price but I do expect $500+ on it when it comes out.
I wasn’t interested in the RC10 CC at all because I wanted one to drive and at the time the jury was out on its durability. I ended up getting the 40th, but the Team/Worlds is intriguing though because it comes with the Stealth transmission, longer front shocks, wider front arms and has the unique body. The graphite isn’t that interesting to me as it was AE’s least competitive of all the RC10 variants given that they would snap in half. Kyosho needs to come out with a LWB Optima Mid in 2025!
I had to get the CC as it is just unique and different to anything out there. The 40th of course it was one I could not pass up. Then I got the 10T as I never had one of those either. after al those back to back I really lost interest in the others coming out, too many too fast it is probably for the best or I would have bought more of them! The graphite is cool to me as it is different and I am not going to drive it hard. The team car is cool, just not one that excited me. I do wish Kyosho would bring out some new re-re kits. I know loads of folks want a Raider and a Rocky to be done but they seem to only want to ride the Ultima/Optima train and not branch out to the other kits. As always there will be some new coming out I will get excited about and get so missing out on a few is not the end of the world!
***Family Guy voice heheheheheheheh... Sorry my inner 12 year old giggled. I do love building but recently felt a bit burnt out on it so I have been looking at other things and sadly been so busy with other responsibilities I have not had a ton of extra time for building. I will jump back into it soon. I really want to get the Top Force built and run. Might be a Christmas break build!
LOL! We have been decorating a little at a time to not make it a chore. Kind of like a house sized advent calendar in a way. We set limits for the kids this year and that has helped. We tend to go overboard and setting a limit has kept that in check this year. I am curious as to what next year holds, I honestly thing the releases are going to slow compared to this year but that is just a hunch!
Yeah, the are pricey here but I know outside the US they are a lot more. The poor folks in Australia have to give up a left leg or a kidney for one! Everything is twice as expensive down there it seems! I hate to complain as they are finally doing what everyone has been asking for for years but man they are doing too many in such a short period of time nobody knows what to get, what is going to sell out , what is going to be in stock for a while and can't afford to try and keep up with a new $400+ kit every 6 or 7 weeks. Obvious first world problem for sure.
I have not been into nitro for many years. There are days I miss it but then I remember the tuning and mess of it all and dismiss the idea of starting one up LOL!
I definitely think that AE made a mistake by releasing so many kits in one year, it would have been much better to release maybe 2 a year and spread it out a bit over a couple of years! I have 3 RC10’s now, the original gold pan rere, the cc and the Jay Halsey but the main thing I want from AE is a no frills gold pan that I can actually use!!…. That and spare parts like wheels and tires and such!👍👍
I think even if they did two at the beginning of the year and then two mid year would be better. The every month or two thing has just been too many. I hate to complain as we have been wanting re-re kits from them for years and years. They just came in guns blazing and caught us all off guard!
Gotta do life stuff….sure everyone gets it. Ever get too much cake and ice cream at a party and you get a bit sick of it? That’s Team Associated, but I still appreciate them.😊
Yeah, the life stuff is more tedious and un-fun most of the time! LOL!! I guess that is why most of us have this hobby! You are right. Another person said it was like that cool song on the radio and then 2 months of them playing it ever 20 minutes it becomes annoying and loses its charm. I hate to complain as they are finally doing the re-re kits and everyone has been wanting them to do them for years! releasing two and then 6 months later releasing another two seems like a better strategy than one every two months but that is just from my budget perspective. From their side it may be working great, except for the green edition... that one was a terrible idea that I don't think anyone asked for!! LOL!
I was very disappointed with Black Friday and Cyber Monday. I wanted to pick up another RB10 and the price was exactly the same price I paid in August of last year. But AMain was advertising like it was a great sale. IMO everyday prices aren’t a sale. No other real kits that I wanted were on sale from Tamiya or AE which are my 2 go to kits to build. As far as AE flooding the market with ReRe’s I am like you. Stuck in the middle. I have the CC, 40th Gold Pan, DS, RC10T and really want the graphite but with money not growing on trees I have passed up on all of the ReRe’s since. The newest ReRe has a stealth transmission and a few other upgrades but I can’t justify the purchase right now. I really don’t know what to do next. Going to wait until the end of the month to see how the Christmas recoup is going to go and also do some workshop cleaning because I’m out of room for almost everything except mini cars and I really don’t want any more of those for now. Long rambling on my part summarized. I agree with you lol.
For the kits the deals were not as great, I will agree with you there. There were some serious ones on the RTRs, I think one or two may end up under the tree for me! Last year was a huge year for re-re kits and releases in general and I think that led to a bit of burn out overall, AE coming in guns blazing just fueled that fire a lot more!
When I was getting into RC in the early 1980's, it was almost exclusively Tamiya and Kyosho in the local model shops, so the RC10 completely passed me by. Luckily that means I have no emotional attachment to it. I think the flood of special editions is a bit over the top, but I do get a little annoyed when Tamiya re-releases some of their iconic models as well. In my opinion, it starts to negatively impact on the company's reputation. I just hope Tamiya doesn't do anything crazy for their 50th anniversary and re-release the Blazing Blazer on a High-Lift chassis or the Porsche 959 on the XV chassis. Some things are just better left untouched and remembered as the vintage icons that they are!
Yes, if they are going to re-re something so classic and sought after they better stick it on the proper chassis. But they have had a track record of keeping us guessing and not having a clue as to what is next so it can go either way honestly. I have completely given up on trying to figure Tamiya out, there just is no way of doing it! I do wish Kyosho would get off their rumps and re-re the Raider, the Rocky and some of those kits. The retro looking buggies like the Dirtmaster and the Dirt Cross are neat but there are so many folks that had a Raider or a Rocky that would love to build another and run it around! Not everyone enjoys trying to find and restore old ones to fill that gap. Heck I have a runner and a nice Raider and I would probably still get one (I have issues, I know)
@@AddamsPlayground Talking of vintage Kyosho products, I just published a video featuring the Kyosho Double Dare car crusher that I built in 1989. It was released as a competitor to the Clod Buster but was never very successful and is now quite a rarity. It was my first Kyosho RC vehicle as I started with Tamiya buggies. Unfortunately, it had so many design flaws that it put me off the Kyosho brand for decades. Now I look back at it with nostalgia.
I agree with what you’re saying but if someone wanted to give me a TD4 I’d take it lol - there were A LOT of great deals on Tamiya USA…I even tried to buy something but they won’t ship to canada. Bummer. I wanted to get the tracked kit as the price was just too good. Completely agree with you on the Team Associated stuff…dang…what are they thinking? Too much too fast…and just plain WTH! Lol - it’s total overload. My best friend as a kit got an RC10 so I have some knowledge of them but I never got into it. My local hobby store still has a clear edition on the shelf and I’m tempted to buy it if it’s going to be a collectible that will be worth something in the future but otherwise I’ll pass. A lot of the prices are nuts. Tamico put out their limited edition Avante but once converted to Canadian it was just too much and honestly I’d rather buy the new release of the blue original. The original is the best looking Avante in my opinion. Great stuff Addam. Love your ramblings…
It was a busy year overall with release from everyone. I hate to complain about AE doing this but man it has been some tough decisions to make and what do I get versus what do I pass on gets frustrating when they keep whipping a new one out the door every 6 or 7 weeks over and over again. I have just had to make the tough decision to really slow down, miss out on a number of things and really start criticizing my purchases a harder. What is going to be the best bang for the buck and what do I really want (other than all of them) and refrain from the knee jerk buying I have been doing! I have so much to get through now I can take a bit of a break from trying to get them all! LOL!! I agree the OG metallic blue Avante it the best of them!
I feel like I have been starved for rc10s, because I could never get one new before, and I have been buying every version because of this deprivation, and lust, but I totally understand, and get what you are saying. I have many other projects that could use my time, money, and love, but damn these things are cool lol.
Yes, I understand that as well. I was lucky enough to get two vintage ones prior to the re-re kits hitting so I had been able to fill that hole before the buzz of all of these. Maybe that is part of it for me as well. I hate to complain that there are too many since for years and years there were none but I fear that they have gone so head first into this and are flooding so many so quickly it is going to backfire on them and they are going to stop and never do it in the future. They are awesome and drive so very well! Have fun with yours!!!
I can't afford one RC 10 let alone all the rest 🤣🤣 seems a bit strange to me but each to there own 😊 I'll stick with the cheaper tamiya range for now 🤣
I understand, there were many years where I could barely keep the few I had running much less buy another! The RC10 is a great running buggy, my old one that is a runner beat a lot of the newer styled buggies out on the track. It was the buggy to have back when I was a kid and all over every magazine and sales flier back then! It was many years of lusting for one that made me want them!
It is a really awesome buggy, I was really surprise how well they drive. I always liked the GT, looked great and was the fastest thing around for its time. I just hate dealing with the nitro mess anymore!
Can only drive one at a time. I'm dialing way back and selling cars that I don't drive or gifting them this Christmas. The TA rerererereleases are of no interest to me. They seem to have fallen off completely outside of race kits. The SR7 was a bad joke.
True, I do enjoy being able to go down and "shop" the inventory for what I would like to drive though. It is like having free reign in a hobby shop to a point. I am going to put a lot more critical decision making into the future purchases instead of the knee jerk reactionary buying I have been doing. Their RTR line is all disinteresting to me, poor electronics in most and some horrid looking bodies on others (Not the SR7, that looks sharp). The race kits are so overpriced and have become so hyper specific, either perfectly groomed clay (concrete) tracks or carpet racing the only worthy of real offroad is the 1/8th scale and those are so pricey and still track oriented. For fun runners that hold up well I will stick with the Arrma kits!
The hobby was never created by only spectators and collectors. It was mostly DIY adventurers who weren't afraid to get their hands dirty and have fun. Collecting is good for the hobby to keep interest and money flowing but it roots is backyard racing. Keep a few and run the rest!
I have driven a few to death in my life, I still have some I drive hard and don't care about the paint or some scrapes and dings. These rest I try and keep clean and neat. After getting so many it is easier to fall into the shelf queen category as you build it, run it and move onto the next one and repeat. I come back to some and run them around lightly for fun but I have the few here that are the work horses and fun runners to save the rest. It is funny how my mindset has changed over the years and continues to change about them. I am having fun getting a lot of the ones I wanted years ago and also adding new and fun ones in the mix as well!
I like a good ramble. Like you, tired of all AE releases. I’ve got an unbuilt gold and cc. I built one cc and got the other because they said no spares
I feel bad kind of complaining as they are doing what we asked for but in a bit of a rushed and overwhelming manner. We wanted re-re kits, just not all of them in one 12 months stretch! LOL! I did the same with the CC, one to build and one to hold onto. If I had known I would have kept that extra for another one of the kits!
The question is, what's the quality like? I know ThunderTiger were keeping the serious team on the keep making the AE racing series, but these aren't new cutting edge. So have they got the old timey nylon feel or are they cheap plastics? As far as pricing goes.. in Australia the Dual Sport has the same price tag as a Tamiya Custom Hauler or a 3S Arrma.
So far the quality has been there. Some of the QC has lacked on the initial kits like missing hardware and stuff but I have less of that in the newer releases. I don't understand why they cannot just include a spare hardware bag in there and not have to deal with the customer service headache of sending out a screw or e-clip to people because it was not included. I know you all in Australia get stuck paying extra for almost everything so I am not surprised these are ridiculously priced. It always makes me wonder why as you all are so much closer to the manufacturing of everything!
@@AddamsPlayground Pretty much.. There was this one time I received my TXT1 through my local before the RCCA review went to print. That was the one time location has been an advantage, regarding RC. Good to hear the quality is still there though. Maybe better? I never had one, but I remember people having to take to the drop gears in the old top diff transmission with jeweler's files to debur them. Which was an alien concept to me, having just entered the scene with Tamiya stuff.
I picked up the jj car....its a runner...I'm restoring a a stamp unit to be a runner....the 4wd??????we will see about that....let's hope losi doesn't get into this deal...I'll go broke lol...
I honestly don't see Losi doing anything other then the little versions. I have heard several different things that they don't want to hurt the collector market or they have lost the molds but both are full of beans. No large company gives a hoot about the collector market except for feeding it and they do not need the original molds to create a re-release of their kits. I don't know what their aversion is to making re-re kits but I am sure if they were going to do any they would have dropped one by now. I would like for them to do some as the pool of decent and reasonably priced vintage kits is all but dried up. All ragged or expensive kits left out there for sale, usually a good mix of both of those things! LOL!
Ya I use to race a graphite version back in the day so that one I will probably get it I’ve not bothered with the other ones but this one I’ll probably get but I hear what you’re saying over saturation like that one song on the radio when it comes out, they play it 75 times and then you hate it
Exactly, still a great song but not every 15 minutes! LOL! I do like the graphite version and that is different and something I do not have so it will be a cool one to get. I am glad they got into the re-re market but they may be going a little too fast for the market to keep up, time will tell!
You know I enjoy your rambling videos, especially when they have a rant in them, he he... Yeah, of course I have an opinion about that RC10 Asso debate thing: Well, first of all, it's a nice buggy, my neighbour has an original and I drove it, I love it! I would have loved to get me one, and now that I have the chance, I think I won't... So I am in the extreme end of the spectrum, but mostly just because I don't really feel like it any longer. Also, I can't be bothered with the imperial hardware. But I do have a much more sinister suspicion why Asso are doing this: The Fan RC brand just went and released their tribute kit, which I assume they invested a lot of money and effort into. And that was likely done because up until a short while ago, Asso had signaled that they had little interest in selling more kits and parts. So now they suddenly flood the market, seemingly shooting themselves in the foot, but are they actually drowning this little player? This is pretty dark and conspiracy theory'ish... But could be... Apart from all that, I think a lot of hobbyists are no longer craving for that retro feel thing, of course we know it's 2024, and for example Arrma are showing us how awesome RC can be. Oh, that was a long comment... I know you can take it, he he...
Yeah, I understand the hardware is a pain to deal with. It is cool they kept it old school but I really don't think anyone would have been upset with metric hardware on them as it is the world standard nowadays! Th RC10 is a wonderful driving buggy and such a classic icon but it is not for everyone. I have been debating getting the FANRC "graphite" version as it is a tremendously better platform than the AE is going to be. Full carbon and it better machining! Same price and I can deal with getting my own wheels and tires for it. ARRMA has been crushing it lately and I have really enjoyed getting back to some bash it around driving with them! Such tough and great looking vehicles they are definitely leading the market of RTRs at the moment. Making Traxxas look dumb which is an added bonus! LOL!
I wish they would have spaced them out the problem I see is when they dry up you won’t see any re res from them for ten years so when someone gets into the hobby two years from now there going to pay threw the nose for them they should take a page out of Tamiyas play book a little at a time
I am hoping they do more like Kyosho does and just do batches of them once or twice a year for those that missed out or wanting one for the first time. That has been working for Kyosho for years and every time they release a batch they are in stock for a month or two and start selling out and then get replenished a few months afterwards. They can introduce new ones from time to time but 8 or 9 in a year is too much when they are all $400+
Man i heard that rant from go to woe it was the same in Australia bombarded by sales the cost of living is making rc hard enough so I'd be annoyed at that aswell at all the releases that was spose to be a special release it just taints what was special as for motivation I'm hearing that I've had to virtually shut it off for the past year building the cabin i like to think about the vids long before i make them i couldn't focus on both trying to get through the cabin and think about vids was to much keeping up has been tough between no internet and exhaustion we need a break from rc now and then, I'm enjoying seeing a bit of variety on the channel testing some rtr's even though i like watching about the kit's the rtr are what I'm more likely to purchase purely for the nature of my channel take care mate 👊
Yeah, I know in Oz everything is marked up after the mark ups! I don't know how you guys do RC at all over there! I hear from so many folks over they the prices you guys pay for things and it breaks my brains! I know you have a terribly busy year, you need some time off my friend, a week or two to just disconnect and not do anything! I am sure spending time at the cabin helps a little but I know you are also tinkering and working on things while you are there so it is not an escape yet! I am enjoying the variety recently as well and I am sure things will go back and forth between kits an RTR stuff fairly often in the next year. Take care mate and don't work yourself to death!
@AddamsPlayground your dead right there it's still a place of work there's always something to do I have to shut off sometimes should hear my wife complain about that pottering according to her it never stops 🤣 I'll be hanging for the Christmas break
Last Sorry I didn't get a chance to watch this last night I fell asleep I'm watching it now and you said you wanted the comical grasshopper so I've ordered it off of tamiya's website but for fraud purposes I can only have it sent to my house so once I receive it I will send it to you no rush on a video just keep making videos even if they are rants I love the rants You seem down at the end of the video hopefully you getting the comical grasshopper will perk you up lol
Yeah, they have flooded the market with the same kit in different wrappers and I think it is backfiring on them. The first two had a lot of buzz about them, rightfully so. Since those the excitement level has dropped more and more with each release. That silly green one was really confusing and I expect that to be clearance priced in 6 months!
I can’t keep up with all these rc10 re re’s lately. IMHO AE is diluting the rc10 brand. I thought about picking up one of these iterations, but now idgaf. I’m at the point and I’m serious when I say this, I would get more joy and gratification finding an original half way decent one at a garage sale for $20 and slowly restore it to its glory. That’s the essence of this hobby.
You are not the only one that feels this way. The excitement and hype from the CC made everyone want the gold pan and then that came out and I don't think many folks expected more but then they came out guns blazing with 7 more releases and overwhelmed everyone with them. I hat to grumble about it but it is just too many too fast and I think those that jumped on the early ones are frustrated because they can't afford some of the later ones and others like you are just over it all and don't care. We will see what they do next. At least restoring one now is a lot easier, there are new parts available!
What annoyed me was if you were lucky enough to get a early pre order actually delivered you paid a premium price for it which i accept. Now in Australia the 40th is $300 less than its first release. Then to wash the market with the same car with decals and wheels .Why have the 9999 40th at all? We pay big prices here for all kits the vintage rere apart from older tamiya stuff is well above the current AE race car. The biggest issue is so many so quickly. The old ones are still on the shelf. Clear them first.
Yeah, I know in other countries you all are dealing with a whole other list of issues with them and that sucks. Flooding the market with so many so quickly has hurt them a lot I think. Also with versions that are more or less livery changes and not much more. Maybe the graphite version will help bounce it back but I fear the strain it put on folks has already left it s mark and hesitation to buy will slow sales down even more. Time will tell I guess but I have had to pass on a few cool ones which is a bummer but I can't buy them all! LOL! Take care and have a great rest of your week!
There was certainly a lot of tempting stuff on sale. Why don't they just lower their prices? Associated waited to put out reissues then they are over doing it. Does that mean their other stuff isn't selling as well? I don't know.
The prices thing is a sales ploy I will never understand. Sell more for less and make a lot of money at the end of the year... seems like sell more for less would make you more money all year long! I Know some of the stuff on sale are the older versions and they are moving to a new version (ARRMA namely) and others may be ones they have too much stock on and are trying to move. For the AE kits, the buzz and excitement over the CC and gold pan releases I think stirred the pot and they thought everything was going to sell as fast and furious as those did. Some seem to be selling now but both the demand and the excitement seem to be dwindling quickly so I am not sure how it is going to go if they keep shoving them at us at this pace.
I feel like it's too much too soon. The green car is dumb imo. Love the DS and would love to see a T2. But hey AE, slow down. For the enthusiast, might be best to hold off and see if these get marked down to blow-out pricing. Overall I'm happy to see re re cars.
I forgot all about the DS in there, I mean tot mention the 10T but in my ramblings it got lost. It is awesome they are doing the the re-re kits but yes, too many in too short of a time period. That green one made no sense to me and in 6 months they will be clearance priced as they will still have 90% of the stock on hand! I agree they need to branch out and offer some different options in the more and not a re-wrapped gold pan over and over. I am glad they jumped in and started doing the re-re its but they need to learn how to pace themselves better. They do it to their RTR division all the time too, 8 versions on the same chassis and 7 of the 8 sit around forever until they all go on sale. At least with the re-re kits the bodies look good, their RTRs often have some of the oddest and ugliest body choices on them which don't help them at all either LOL!
I actually am waiting for my DS To arrive today. They went on sale for less than 300 and I bit lol. Have zero interest in a green variant or the worlds but maybe the others. But way to many to quickly
I am hearing that from quite a few folks. Seems the cost of everything and the cost of RC just keeps creeping up. I am also going to have to dial it back and not run after every new re-re and try to keep them on the more budget friendly side. I am sure I will be getting more next year but I am going to have to focus on getting the ones I have here before getting caught up in the excitement of a new (old) one!
I had a RC10 back in the day and loved it. I only got the 40th gold pan because it’s the original. The rest of these releases are just hype and AE trying to make a buck…pass
Why would you stay so clear of the TD4? I’m relatively new to the hobby and am asking from genuine curiosity as I have one in the box I haven’t had chance to build yet
There are multiple reasons I am not a fan of it. The first being a personal reason of I think it is rather hideous, I have seen some paint schemes done on it that help but still think it looks ugly. The main reasons are it has flaws/shortcomings- You have to get the upgraded aluminum diff not as the stock plastic one usually strips during assembly or the first time you have to adjust the diff. The kit should have come with the slipper clutch but they did not so there is another upgrade. The servo flexes the chassis tube due to lazy designing, the upgraded aluminum ones help but still flexes so eventually the chassis is going to crack and fail. The terrible decision to force the user to remove part of the suspension assembly to insert/remove the battery. Others have made mods to use shorty pack sideways in the chassis but that enhances the next problem. There is very little rook for electronics so depending on what you intend to go into it you may not have room to install you ESC. Many folks have had lots of issues with the (front?) axles popping out while driving. I think some O-rings (not included in the kit) fix that issue. So it was a cool idea, it ended up being fairly poor execution and should have come with the proper parts to assemble it properly with out requiring upgrade parts. Failed design and thus the reason the TD4 and TD are on closeout pricing all over. The TD2 is less problematic (less complicated and more room) and slightly better looking so that is why I contemplated that one but would not take the TD4 if given to me. Those that have built them and put in the upgrades have said the enjoyed it but the honest ones said they still don't run it often due to the fiddly nature of the battery compartment.
@ thank you for the insight and I am nodding my head while reading your reply, I have already realised I will need the upgrade ball diff as I had problems with my dark impact! The standard one with the plastic t nut is ridiculous! I have just built the TD2 and used the hop up diff, I don’t doubt your knowledge and I can’t believe that about battery removal, that is horrendous! By front axels popping out do you mean the drive shafts from the diff, because I also had this problem on the dark impact
@@AddamsPlayground so the car has all the short comings of the df-03 then! A bit of a disappointment as it looks like once built it will join the dark impact as a display only car! (I have had about 15 combined minutes of running out of the DI in total and have hit problems every run)I have 4 other cars in boxes aside from the TD4 and looking like the TD4 hits the bottom of the pile! I have recently got really into your channel and I will say there is a lot of useful insight and I do believe it will help with future purchases
I think AE planned this out for their 40th anniversary for a long time. The last RC10 Re-Re to my understanding didn’t sell well. They were probably watching folks like you, Glen Gavin and Keith as well as tracking chatter on the Facebook groups and determined there’d be a big hype this time and honestly the fact everyone is talking about them they’ve probably succeeded. Retro RC is a big deal now. Everything is returning (except for a LWB Optima Mid-yet).
Yeah, I am sure they had to have planned it out, there is no way they could have turned out so many thing year without a plan, it was just an overly large plan!! LOL! I think if they had announced an upcoming run of re-re and tribute kits and spaced them out a little better the excitement would still be there just releasing 9 kits in a year all at premium prices was a bit too much to keep the excitement going. There is a lot of talk still but not the hypoed excitement in the beginning but more grumbling and the feeling of "again?" filling the air. I am sure we will see more to com in the next year. Hopefully some sales on them!
If you want to know why you're annoyed, it's because you can't easily afford them all, and you feel like you're missing out on an opportunity to buy an appreciating asset. It also explains your irritation at the lingering availability of models like the CC, as these will be slow to rise. I applaud AE for making this stuff available. The more the better. It's the responsibility of the consumer to show restraint and to weigh the risks when investing in toy cars.
You're spot on about the "missing out" feeling but I am not trying to "invest" in these. I just like them and want them! They are only going to be sold off when I am dead so it is more of a profitable burden to my kids! LOL! You are right about the restraint and financial part for sure. I have poor restraint if the finances are there and I need to work on stopping the knee jerk, impulse buys. It is hard as there is often no warning to what is coming next and I buy one buggy and then they turn around and release another a month later that is more desirable it is frustrating. But in the end it is just toys and a hobby. It is a little different being on YT and try to get to cool kits to build and go over for everyone else. I know a lot of others watch the build and run videos to share in the experience as they cannot get one for whatever reason. Also the YT game of staying relevant or you end up getting swept under rug and not getting any interactions with people.
I am leaning in that direction. I know I am going to get more for the channel but I am definitely going to dial it back some. I can't keep up the pace I have been plus I have a bunch here waiting to be built or restored. That fear of missing out though...
Nope, I did not like the looks of it at all when it was announced and then they released it with a fair amount of issues so I really lost all interest in it. The TD2 is not as bad and I thought about getting one but I doubt I will. Still far too many other ones I would rather get.
AE can do what they want can't they? They are making money, you don't have to buy them all - just buy what you want. The Jay H and Championship Edition are different enough to buy them, same as Graphite. Once these are done. AE may never release them again, but we did think that last time. 🤷♂. It can only be a good thing, and others will follow. Schumacher for example must be DUE a rerelease very soon....
Yeah, I should not complain as they are finally doing what folks have been asking for forever. It just feels like too much too fast and folks are tiring of it and ignoring them. If the sales fall off then they may just stop and go back to making nothing but RTRs with terribly ugly bodies on them!
@AddamsPlayground Wow, thank you so much:)
As for the RC10......
👍 👍
@AddamsPlayground
Yep, sometimes we have to take a step away and re evaluate buddy.
Ensure you take a break from RC and making content over the festive period.....
Spend time with your family and de clutter your fried brain.
You will return in the new year fresh, focused and full of inspiration!
Have a great weekend matey. 😊
👍 👍
@@AddamsPlayground Yep you gotta watch that little Red Devil on your shoulder saying "Buy it you know you need it hehe" lol :) Pete
@n22pdf at this point he lives in my head in a comfy 2 bedroom bungalow! 😂
👋😀👍

The RC10 seems a little simpler, which is appealing in its own way, but what is the money going to…
Seeing the same kit with minor variations also makes me wonder if Associated has an innovated back catalog to draw from.
Blue tape on the bottom of the chassis... great idea! 🙂 I'll have to remember that if/when I finally run any of mine outside 👍🙂
Good 'rambling' video.
I totally agree with what you're saying about the RC10. There's just way too many of them. Now they're annoying to me.
LOL
Take care my friend and have a terrific rest of your week pondering you future bad decision making habits!
I don't get the green chassis either... TA seems to be riding the RC10 wave as long as they can. The 4 wheel drive does sound cool!
@@AddamsPlayground I agree..so many kits, people loose interest.
Yeah the Team Associated strategy is weird 🥴 Suddenly a rere every 2 months (if not faster), that's sick. But what can we do 😅 Take care 🤝
I’d love to have a gold pan RC 10 but can’t justify the price of the new or vintage cars. I wish they’d lower the prices
Always love a good RC rant
AE should learn from the Japanese how to slowly release old kits
I decided not to buy any RC10's because it turned out i had to buy american type hex drivers to assemble it 😒🤓
FanRC makes _alot_ of RC10 parts including carbon graphite stuff
@@AddamsPlayground The green rc10's sold out in a few weeks
@@Dabber422 🤢
I did pick up the Jay Halsey but didn't buy any of the others, but I have the original release Dec 1984 RC10 and that's enough for me.
Yeah, a vintage and a tribute one is a great combo to have! I had to grab the 40th, I would have regretted not getting that one. I still have not opened the box so I don't even know what number I got.
Totally agree too much from AE all at once and they aren’t cheap. Makes the Hornet Evo look great value
Certainly something like the Hornet will get a lot of run time
I have the larger Contigo 24oz mug, there awesome.
I have two very old ones and this slightly newer one. I have not found another I like more!
Cheers for now
I agree, AE is sort of going over board. I absolutely want an RC10, but no way I will be buying two. Far less five.
AE never said they will be releasing a 4WD pan car. Moore at MIP is re releasing a 4WD kit for the pan cars.
@@Dabber422 I have heard both now and we will have to see. In a kit form it would be more attractive. I am not sure I would buy just the conversion.

General Confusion! Right up my alley. Yep , full on Christmas village at my place. Kids are going bat shit crazy. Bank account drained.
LOL! We have been decorating a little at a time to not make it a chore. Kind of like a house sized advent calendar in a way. We set limits for the kids this year and that has helped. We tend to go overboard and setting a limit has kept that in check this year. I am curious as to what next year holds, I honestly thing the releases are going to slow compared to this year but that is just a hunch!
good rant mate. ae are just a bit expensive over here. id love an rc10 gold pan but just can’t justify it … yet 😂
I'm in the market for a rtr , looking at the nitro vorza truggy by hpi
@ I also agree about the burn out from all of the re-releases the credit card meltdown is not fun either.
@@BlackSeaRC I saw it pop up this morning but I did not have time to watch. I will watch it this evening for sure. It looked great in the thumbnail!

Although I have been in rc since the 90's, I have not bought any of them. If they release a GT, I may pick that up.
Associated has gone made with all these RC10 cars!
They came out gun blazing for sure! I just hope they have not shot themselves in the foot in doing so!
AE needs to make a replica of the 1989 RC10GX Stealth Prototype that Masami Hirosaka used to win the IFMAR Worlds.
Unless there are some sort of issue I am pretty sure there will be a Masami tribute one at some point.
Last
Sorry I didn't get a chance to watch this last night I fell asleep I'm watching it now and you said you wanted the comical grasshopper so I've ordered it off of tamiya's website but for fraud purposes I can only have it sent to my house so once I receive it I will send it to you no rush on a video just keep making videos even if they are rants I love the rants
You seem down at the end of the video hopefully you getting the comical grasshopper will perk you up lol
Thanks for checking in!
I don't think ther big enough changes to make me wanna get a 3rd or 4th of the same vehicle
Going forward I'm going to be a lot more selective on what I'm going to buy rc wise.
Glad you enjoyed the ramblings!
The main reasons are it has flaws/shortcomings-
You have to get the upgraded aluminum diff not as the stock plastic one usually strips during assembly or the first time you have to adjust the diff.
I have just built the TD2 and used the hop up diff,
I don’t doubt your knowledge and I can’t believe that about battery removal, that is horrendous!
By front axels popping out do you mean the drive shafts from the diff, because I also had this problem on the dark impact
@@jaradgoodwin649 Yes, the drive shafts. I believe it was on the front but it has been a while since all the videos from everyone on them.
@@jaradgoodwin649 I am glad you are enjoying the videos. I am happy to be your bad influence! LOL!
This came up on my feed. My 2 cents is just focus on what you have and not on whats being released.
I am leaning in that direction. I know I am going to get more for the channel but I am definitely going to dial it back some. I can't keep up the pace I have been plus I have a bunch here waiting to be built or restored. That fear of missing out though...
u dont like the td4? I dang near bought one just for the novelty of the build.
Nope, I did not like the looks of it at all when it was announced and then they released it with a fair amount of issues so I really lost all interest in it. The TD2 is not as bad and I thought about getting one but I doubt I will. Still far too many other ones I would rather get.
@@AddamsPlayground yah as far as looks go, it aint winnin any prizes however it just looked like something different to build.
I love that old school body💪😉✨️✅️
Thanks! I love how cool the half and half paint scheme turned out!
