My Goodness... Not only has he got each instrument down he's got the engineering sorted. Midi sequencing, samples, tones etc, let alone Tool being a mathematical anomaly on how it blends... That's some very broad understanding right there. Many musicians won't cross these lines which in my opinion hinders progressive art a bit but you Sir seem to have no limits in your thinking 👏👏👏

This dude is something else so not taking anything way from that. But the part you are referring to is not a polyrhythm. All of his limbs are in 5 in some form or the other If I'm not mistaken. The bass hits the first 4 notes out of ten. The hi hat opens on 1 and 3 and then 6 and 8 on a count of ten. Snare on 9 and hi hat hand is constant. That's my understanding of the part anyway

I play that part personally (can't come close to playing the whole song) the trick is not counting. You just gotta close your eyes and feel the song. if you try to count you get lost in the signature
@@jellicology It could be considered a polyrhythm, but it is definitely not a polymeter, which would be what Aleks referred to. The really interesting thing about this part though, is that the drums are playing in a different time signature from the rest of the band.

I retired from gigging a few years ago and just can’t seem to find the time or energy to be married to 4 other dudes to get another one going. I still occasionally do acoustic gigs but pretty rare anymore. However if I ever get good at editing I’d like to do what this cat is doing. I play just about any instrument I can get my hands on as well and make UA-cam videos but never messed around with sound engineering and overdubbing sound or video. Still a noob when it comes to that. I’m learning tho.

Most drummers on a tool cover song, just do what they can to stay with the theme of the song and keep up with the rest of the band. In my opinion, your drummer nailed it! As in I can tell he actually studies, practice and tried to get as close to Danny as possible. And I think he did! Then I hear the rest of the band and was like, whoa! They are killing it too!!!! This dude is something else so not taking anything way from that. But the part you are referring to is not a polyrhythm. All of his limbs are in 5 in some form or the other If I'm not mistaken. The bass hits the first 4 notes out of ten. The hi hat opens on 1 and 3 and then 6 and 8 on a count of ten. Snare on 9 and hi hat hand is constant. That's my understanding of the part anyway

I know what you mean though. That part is a genius composition, and looks and sounds easier when it's played by someone who plays it effortlessly.
I play that part personally (can't come close to playing the whole song) the trick is not counting. You just gotta close your eyes and feel the song. if you try to count you get lost in the signature
@@jellicology It could be considered a polyrhythm, but it is definitely not a polymeter, which would be what Aleks referred to. The really interesting thing about this part though, is that the drums are playing in a different time signature from the rest of the band.

This is the best Tool cover I have ever seen. So talented. I thought the 46&2 kids cover was really good many years ago, and more recently the Right in Two cover by Beard of Harmony. All awesome, but this cover of Lateralus is completely full of talent, filthy af and insane.
Wow - I mean I watched this so many times in a row, this is totally SICK !!! (in a good way) this has to be one of the best, most frightingly accurate cover of Lateralus I have ever heard, in fact most parts virtually identical to the original, the drumming absolutely amazing, but I am very shocked and disappointed at one thing - your views !!! I mean how ? How do the fake and horrible UA-cam videos get million of views, and you have only 32.9K - you should get millions of subs. This is my favourite song from Tool, so you have a sub from me, I didn't expect this.

@@bilomium thanks but at 40 after a crazy life of playing the bar scene since I’ve been 14 and doing construction my whole life I feel like I’m 60 lol. I probably still got it in me. I retired from gigging a few years ago and just can’t seem to find the time or energy to be married to 4 other dudes to get another one going. I still occasionally do acoustic gigs but pretty rare anymore. However if I ever get good at editing I’d like to do what this cat is doing. I play just about any instrument I can get my hands on as well and make UA-cam videos but never messed around with sound engineering and overdubbing sound or video. Still a noob when it comes to that. I’m learning tho.

Apex Tool here; Lateralus a personal favorite of mine. Mega challenging to cover because of Danny’s intricate time signature interlude thingy @ 4:50. Blasted through it like the proverbial hot knife through butter. All your instruments on point. Bravo, love your work.

Dude! I got goosebumps like I do with the original! I'm a drummer, do went in sceptical of how your drummer would play it. Most drummers on a tool cover song, just do what they can to stay with the theme of the song and keep up with the rest of the band. In my opinion, your drummer nailed it! As in I can tell he actually studies, practice and tried to get as close to Danny as possible. And I think he did! Then I hear the rest of the band and was like, whoa! They are killing it too!!!! Great job all of you!
