Here’s a clone cover of Lateralus for the Tool fans, dedicated to my uncle who showed me Tool as a kid. Can't get out and play live shows these quarantine days, so this was a project I took on. Rehearsed and planned for about two months till I had everything reliably on lock, lots of technical trial and error to get the "vibe" and tones set, all parts were recorded in one take and captured simultaneously with the videos. Every sound in this video was 100% recreated from scratch for this cover. No sounds/samples were taken or used from the original song or elsewhere. I had to buy some gear beforehand such as the bass whammy and a certain mic I needed for the hi hat, I even tried to rent a gong for the ending part Danny does from a place called Gongs Unlimited in Nebraska. After calling them and getting the dimensions, it was physically impossible to fit behind the kit, as this drum setup was already tight and I’m always pressed for image frame space while shooting these clone vids. Also I used a kick drum with a single head for the intro buildup part. It had that “cardboardy” sub frequency sound I was looking for. I added double-tracked guitars and double tracked vocals after the fact, all in the same spots that are done on the original song. I put more of a personal twist on the vox for this one and just had fun with it. No tabs were used so some things may be played differently from an “official” standpoint. If you want to know more technicals about the production, send me an email on my channel info page. Despite some extremely frustrating moments along the way, in the end I had a badass time doing this cover. Peace
**I DO NOT IN ANY WAY claim the rights to this song, and thanks to Tool for being the timeless, revolutionary, and genius band they are.

Guys I really apologize for the ads popping up mid video. Just to say, I am not making any money from this video. It got instantly copyright claimed and demonetized and all ad revenue is going to the copyright owner. I am going to try to work out some type of revenue sharing just for the fact of being able to control mid video ads. As a music channel I never put ads mid video, it ruins the listening experience.
Omg!! How I caught your last clone cover of Stinkfist, it just came into my feed one day.. I watched it and it literally blew me away! I immediately shared it on my timeline... Got mad response. Honestly I don't think, "including me" anyone had ever seen anything like this? Oh you're on to something... Plus love your attitude towards your approach with music... So you posted this new clone cover and had a link to your original band, Dimphonic... I click on it, low n behold the title to the track is "Nur5e"... Hahaha. This band that I play in here in Seattle is called?... ua-cam.com/video/KgUBt-GwSFc/v-deo.html... nurseratchett.com/ Love what you do!!
Very thoughtful of you, not putting mid-roll ads for that reason. Thanks
More tool please!

By far one of the most accurate and clean covers of this extremely difficult song I’ve ever heard. And it’s ONE PERSON. Special props him for being able to do the drums.

Un fuckin believable.
I don’t think people realize how impressive this is. This might be one of the most impressive things I’ve ever watched.
Check out Tyler warrens cover of the entire rush album permanent waves . Equally awesome as this .. but the entire album from beginning to end played to perfection .

the only possible way it could be more impressive is if he was literally playing all the parts at the same time

the drums alone.......omg..... im a drummer, and to be able to pull this off from just the percussion perspective is unreal alone. Now add in EVERYTHING ELSE!!!!!!! omg!!!! talent to the infinite power!!
I was going to post this almost word for word lol. Just fucking WOW.
yes,...a drummer is incredible...
This is insane. He may not sound exactly like Maynard, but the instrumentation is indistinguishable from Tool. Props to this alien for pulling off this magnificent feat!!

I have watched this video at least once a day since you released it. I have easily watched it 1200 times and every single time is like the first. Unfortunately its been hard for me to find the time to play my kit or guitars, but every once in a while this video motivates me to play. And every time I watch and see the raw talent and dedication you have, it motivates me to push myself and give my all in every single thing I do in life. This video without a doubt changed my life and my perspective. Thank you my friend.
Killer! It would be more realistic if your singing clone was facing the far corner of the room.
It’ll be even MORE realistic if he just sang in the fetal position for the entire song
Or if one clone jumped on stage and you took him down and kept singing lol.
I mean, last time I saw Tool live Maynard was practically break-dancing in full SWAT gear. That would be way more fun.
Fair
and doing the peepee dance!
I have never, honest to god, heard a cover that is SO FAITHFUL IN EVERY ASPECT to the original song.
Fucking brilliant.
I totally agree!!

That drum set is about a 5th of what Danny's is lol
Epic comment, but that gong hit is fire on the Danny video.
that's the smallest kit I think I ever saw play flawlessly tool, congrats my dude!
I just saw this in 2023 and this is really impressive. It takes several people to make Tool sound like Tool lol. You did it by yourself and KEPT IN TIME!! Either you are a master editor, or a freaking metronome lmao!! You deserve a career in a studio. I hope things are really working out for you. Bravo!

I can't decide if you're a better drummer, bassist, guitarist or a singer. You've spiralled out, my friend!
Starting from the easiest: bass, guitar, drums, vocals.
Tauno Kekkonen the bass and guitar parts arent that hard, the vocals are challenging. But the drums are definitely the hardest!!
Bass in tool? Its not hard? It might be the hardest somw times!

I'm more impressed with the mix and master, sounds clean and hits hard. The vocals sit a little weird imo but overall its impressive.
Looks like each part was done in a single take, impressive
On Prince’s album 1999 he wrote every note of every song and played every instrument and every note on every song through the whole album himself. Little Red Corvette put him on the map Purple Rain album and movie came shortly afterwards. The rest is history...
@@morgierwin6641 really? that's what you're impressed with? the goddamn mix? not the fact that he mastered the fucking polyrhythms on four instruments on one of the most complex pieces of western music out there? gtfo.
This is the best Tool cover I have ever seen. So talented. I thought the 46&2 kids cover was really good many years ago, and more recently the Right in Two cover by Beard of Harmony. All awesome, but this cover of Lateralus is completely full of talent, filthy af and insane.

@@dannyfuller1 Technically, clones are one guy.
They may be at inception, but life experience will shape them all differently.
It's not just that the mix is good, it's that it's sonically indistinguishable from the Tool album version. I've never heard such a perfect sound match in my life.

What a hypnotising achievement. This is truly exceptional. I have no idea how you mastered Danny Carey (and the rest of the band), but you did it. 5:37 - a different time signature with each limb - absolutely floored me. You are one talented creature.
Thanks for this. Made my day. Take care, my friend.
This dude is something else so not taking anything way from that. But the part you are referring to is not a polyrhythm. All of his limbs are in 5 in some form or the other If I'm not mistaken. The bass hits the first 4 notes out of ten. The hi hat opens on 1 and 3 and then 6 and 8 on a count of ten. Snare on 9 and hi hat hand is constant. That's my understanding of the part anyway
@@jellicology Thanks for clarifying!
@@alekshammo lol, nice to see someone actually take another person's clarification positively on UA-cam for once...
I know what you mean though. That part is a genius composition, and looks and sounds easier when it's played by someone who plays it effortlessly.
I play that part personally (can't come close to playing the whole song) the trick is not counting. You just gotta close your eyes and feel the song. if you try to count you get lost in the signature
@@jellicology It could be considered a polyrhythm, but it is definitely not a polymeter, which would be what Aleks referred to. The really interesting thing about this part though, is that the drums are playing in a different time signature from the rest of the band.
