John was in the zone....big time...check out his guitar phrasing after the solo when he sings...dude is still soloing lines as he sings ....not easy to do and make sound that fluid and natural

This performance is a GOLDMINE for someone aspiring to be a soloist on guitar. His technique of mixing minor and major scales is nothing short of brilliant. Not to mention the licks, phrasing, and tone. Pretty damn special.
SRV and Hendrix would be proud.
I was actually thinking this is a goldmine to learn how to overplay the hell out of a song. And ALSO how to cop Hendrix licks that mix minor and major scales. Mayer's a great guitarist, but let's not pretend he came up with any of these licks.

i love it when JM lets it rip. sometimes his playing is almost TOO tasty and refined. this is pretty bad ass tone and phrasing and attack, reminiscent of his Trio work.

adam levine did purple rain, whats interesting and what id like to know is which one of these went first because i'd be willing to bet john went first because adams solo seemed a little force and way over the top .
People seem to react more to Adam Levine’s cover of Purple Rain which is crazy to me coz this is much better

@@Sixto_Marley haha that I have not been able to do. I know how to do it but it is so quick and precise and for me the solo is a bit fast paced so i just keep it in the bb box and get a similar sound.

learn coudnt stand the weather including the solo parts an that will help get you at the same tempo. If i didnt play alot of srv stuff I probably wouldnt have been able to transcribe this as quickly as i did
