I am 70 yrs old an Indian and have been suffering from knees pain for last two years. I consulted orthopaedic who gave me some medicine to release pain as I am over weight ànd don't go for walking as I can't walk. Eversince I saw your video on u tube, I started the exercises and got benefitted from. I appreciate your informative approach. I pray to God for your good health.
I have been driving almost every day 10 hours/day for the last 7 years and I haven't done any of this stuff. Of course I have pain in my knees, lower back and neck.
Today I'll buy a foam roller, I can't wait !!! And by the way I just turned 60.
should have a look at the chinse treatment for knee pain they have one point in the front outer side of the leg under the knee that is brilliant i have had falls in the past three months every time on my right knee and on ly found the relieved after their treatment can even have that done as acupuncture but I did just the massage as shown as we do not hat acupuncture available in my area
Thank you God bless your good work, such a good human being you are,I can see how much you love your job,if I had a son I would have loved him to be like you for sure.😇
I notice that your foam roller fits nicely into the joint in your treatment bed but I found the roller I bought initially slipped around making the exercise really difficult so I recommend getting a non-slip one. Great exercises that really help.
We didn’t stop moving because we got old… We GOT OLD BECAUSE WE STOPPED MOVING!
All the problems with lack of balance, mobility and physical decline, as well as chronic pain, are rooted in this simple principle.
Thanks for your videos, clear explanations and demos.
Thank you very much 😅
I wish you were correct. Sounds good though
They’re gazillions of YT videos out there with similar information. Why I personally enjoyed this one and walked out knowing that I actually learned and remember what I’ve seen and heard? Because of the simplicity and transparency of the teaching method. It wasn’t flashy, over the top, redundant or silly. I love the sober and straight forward presentation. Keep up the great work!
Indeed! Will is no BS, to the point and he is so easy to look at as a bonus:)
Yes totally agree with all said. Thankyou for your very good and practical advise.
Yes, and no distracting music!
Absolutely!
This guy is clear,to the point and speaks with experience and expertise. BEST on line. Nick.
Foam roll stretch for thoracic vertebra
Calf stretch
Up and down from floor
Beautiful!
For Older Folks your exercise especially the last one. Older people fall often so getting up to call for help is key.. God bless You Mr PHYSIO !!!!
An osteopath (who also worked as a paramedic) told me that the majority of ambulance call-outs was to older people who, after a fall, couldn’t get up from the floor. I myself, like to sit on the floor as much as possible and have always done so. I’m currently sitting on my yoga mat watching this video. Once it’s finished I will do my short, daily Pilates practice to keep myself as active as possible. I’m 73 in July and have spondylolothesis. Luckily only grade 1.
There is soooo much to be said for this video! I’m a 71 yr old male and 30 lbs overweight. At least half of this weight gain in the past year was from a severe case of plantar fasciitis. The main reason for this was tight calves and not stretching. This was incredibly debilitating because it lasted 9 months. I couldn’t walk far and even trying to ride a stationary bike was painful. This was a huge change for me. I used to play 3 rounds of golf per week and walk all 18 holes with no problem. This was not only challenging physically but also very much so mentally. Winter lasts a good 5 months where I live. Being couped up not being able to go anywhere due to PF was really difficult. Anyhow the stretch shown for tight calves was very helpful. Even custom made orthotics from a Podiatrist didn’t help that much. You do not want to go through what I did if you can avoid it. Now I stretch 20 minutes a day. I will add on the thoracic stretch. I’m fortunate to not have had much of any back issues and now hope to keep it that way. Great video! Many thanks!
I cannot thank you enough for your life saving videos. Mobility is what makes us feel young. Too often we forget that. Your videos help us to regain mobility and that feeling of being still young.
I’m a 63yr old woman who has always kept busy and thought how strong she was with working, cleaning homes and work in a huge garden. Now just recovering from a hip replacement has noticed many of these problems you’ve highlighted Will, I’m getting stronger and more confident each day. I consider your advice as a second chance to not let my strength slip too far into a black hole as it’s so easy to let go and get into lazy habits
I'm sorry to hear you've noticed some of these problems. It's great to hear your strength and confidence is building each day - I hope my channel can continue to offer helpful guidance for you in this period of rehabilitation - keep up the great work :)
I so need this thank you. I’ve just turned 50 and I ache all over my body. I use to be sooo fit 😢😩
I started doing the thoracic stretch about two months ago on the advice of my physiotherapist, and my back has never been better. So I can really vouch for it. Great advice. Wish I'd known this when my elderly parents were still alive!
So pleased to hear it was helpful! Something I do personally every day.
Without any doubt.
Ok
I'm 54. I started working out, running, competition swimming, skiing, horse riding, cycling, walking, playing tennis from the age of nine till I was about 16. Then you start working in your 20s. Then you raise a family and moving the way a body is designed to move gradually gets shoved further and further into a corner until it's .. forgotten. I am still in overall good health but the loss in strength is noticeable. And that's a little frightening sometimes. We should move, throughout our lives and especially when we get towards the end because it significantly improves the quality of life of an aging person. It's incredible how society seems to have accepted that old people are immobile. That's so untrue. You can develop muscles ALL THE TIME. Muscle has no age. My father is 84. He fell in the garage. He was alone in the house and remained on that cold floor for FOUR HOURS. What this very competent gentleman said about practicing getting up from the floor can probably save your life. We aren't being taught what we need to know from mainstream media. Why is that? Many thanks for your golden advice. ❤
Honestly this presenter knows how to dress. Always on point
For years and years I used to lie on my sofa with legs over the back and drop my head back. I let the weight of my head to gradually stretch my thoracic spine. I often fell asleep.
My aunt was right! When she was 70 she told me to be sure to sit on the floor everyday! Which I have always done and now I am 70! I especially liked the thoracic spine movement and explanation and will include this in my daily routine.
I used always to kneel on the floor when rooting through lower shelves in the library. So comfy. But now, aged 75 and with a laterally tilted hip, I find initial unbending a bit difficult. Hands and knees or handy chair help.
I am 68 now and find it quite impossible to squat let alone sit on the floor! What alternative positions can I adopt?

Brilliant, thank you. I’m 78, in the US and this is the best practical advice I’ve seen. I’m a retired RN with mobility issues. Your advice has helped tremendously. Practical, solid, doable. You’ve already made a difference in my life.
In my entire life I've only known one nurse who was in good health in later years
Bless your heart. You've given me confidence and hope. I'm a 79-year-old disabled man and these three exercises are the ones I'm most in need of, I think. I'll send a text message to my physical therapist to get her input and hope to get started, with someone here to help if needed. I am ever so grateful.
@@l.w.paradis2108 Thanks. Will do.
Great Willl! You have dedicated your profession to specially help people over 50 to live a painfree life when most people your age mostly ignore the older people!
God bless you.
Okay. A couple of months later. I’m walking more and feeling better than I have in about five years. A good part of that change comes from the things you share. My gratitude is deep.
@@jameskeener7251 Hooray!!! :)
I’ve been doing essentrics and yoga for 12 years, I am 77 and can do these exercises fairly easily. Keep moving!
Oh! The progressive practice of getting up AND down to the floor is brilliant! I can do them but barely. Love the idea of making it into a daily practice. Thank you!
I fell off my new Walker because one of the wheels wasn’t locked securely. I had just learnt the technique for getting up. And it worked so well! Thanks 🙏
Yay on you !!!
This is great! I’m 75 and, before the pandemic, I could lower myself to the floor with my legs crossed, then do a split squat get up with no hands (a “sit to stand” score of 9). The pandemic did a real job on me, and I’ve been looking for progressions that would enable me to get back to where I was. Instead of feeling depressed about having to use my arms or a chair, you’ve encouraged me to just get back to work. By the time I am 76, I intend to be able to do a Turkish get up!
Thanks for saying this. The pandemic made me very weak. I didn't realize it but now I do and I'm working on regaining strenghth
The power of positive thinking. 😊
Really? I'm one of those who got busy on my home gym right away make sure I had a pocket so that I could always carry my phone on the daily walks around the neighborhood as it was just coming onto spring here, so I could always be mindful of getting my steps, because I was so concerned about losing strength. I DID NOT want to get that thing, so I made sure to just step everything up that I could. And it worked. I think I had covid the first three weeks of January of 2020, before anyone had heard of it in the general population, followed all the recommendations which are just common sense anyway, and never did get it till late 2022, when someone had it at my sister's job and never told anybody.
Anything you can do to not just boost but optimize your immune system, is probably the best thing for EVERYTHING
I would rather deal with pain and stiffness than sit through this painfully boring video.
@@du3223than you really do not know what pain is.
A big thank from switzerland !!
Hi Will…you are a master of explanation and a true wealth of information…your manner of presenting the exercises are shown with an easy flow which encourages participation and memorization of life restoring movements…compliments to your superb technique…❤️
Thank you so much for the kind words! Means a lot!
Without out any doubt.
Yes Will does an excellent Job
Totally agree with @johnroller5198.
Couldn’t agree more!
You are a star....you are the best❤❤
I'm over 70 and suffered a lot with stiffness in my feet and ankles...you came up on UA-cam and I start doing your exercises and it's doing wonders for my feet and ankles...Thank you so much and tons of ❤ and kisses from the granny in Cape Town South Africa...
So useful. I have been practising getting up from the floor without holding onto anything for several months. I only do it occasionally (a few times a week, should do it more often) and it has gone much easier. I was actually shocked to discover I couldn't do it easily: I hadn't noticed but my brother challenged me and I realised how hard it was. I also have very tight calves but didi not realise that was affecting my knees and ankles.
Recently, my 89 year old father fell in front of me in the lounge. He sorted himself out, crawled on hands and knees to the toilet seat and got himself up , like you showed us. I realise now though, that he had crawled passed several chairs along the way to the bathroom. I was in awe of his ability!!
At 71 I'm certain I can benefit from each of these exercises. I live alone so I do need to know how to get up from a lying position on the floor. I haven't fallen yet but my lack of flexibility and issues with balance suggest it's a real possibility. Add to that hips that aren't as strong anylonger and you have a challenging set of circumstances. You do as fine a job helping the elderly to better living then anyone on UA-cam. Thanks from The U.S.
Hi there, it's great to hear you feel you can benefit from my suggestions, I'm wishing you all the very best and I hope my channel continues to offer you support :)
Thank you for this video. I will be 75 and want to stay as healthy as I can for as long as I can!
I think I’m blessed because walking briskly 2 miles a day in nature makes my pain go away. My calves do get tight so I’ll be mindful of stretching them. I tried the foam roller on upper back & it made a huge difference!
God bless you son appreciate your great effort to help us. Seeing you in the video remembering my two lovely grown up sons who always motivate me to be in my best version. Sending love❤
Yoga mat placed on the floor. A mattress placed on the floor. These two ways gives more room for movement, gives daily practice to stand up from lying down position. Do not be deterred because of short term inconvenience or onlookers pitying you for sleeping on the floor. After waking up tidying the surroundings requires some bending movements. Gradually flexibility will replace stiffness.
Thanks so much for posting.
Following an accidental sacrum fracture, trying to regain mobility and flexibility. Your videos are so helpful ....
Thank you, I’ve just ordered your book!
Can you make a video on getting up and down from the floor with no chair. There isn't always something to grab to help you get up.
VERY HELPFUL🙏❤
04:20 what to do thoraxic, 2 minutes a day
08:58 calf
10:03 getting up on floor, daily
No one needs that. This video is short enough and there is the exact info needed, no more, no less. So there is nothing that should be skipped over to hurry it up.
Thank you
Thank you very much for the time notes!!!
Wonderful teaching ! 👌👌🌹
I just turned 61 and discovered judt how really difficult it was to get up off the floor when I took a yoga class! Thanks I will put this into practice.❤.
14:48 Easy to follow- even if maybe a slower pace than you 😊But we, over 50 crowd appreciate that you can empathize with our various issues and offer self help techniques so we can remain independent and strong 💪💪🔥🎊🌷🎶
Thanks for your kind words and glad you found it useful!
Well said.😊
Fantastic videos, really help! Thank you for sharing!❤
Can’t thank you enough Will for your empowering and informative video 🙏
People are surprised that at 89 I am still active, but they are not surprised that people in their 30s and 40s are inactive?! Many old age problems are in effect young age problems.
You're making such a wonderful contribution with all the information so clearly presented. Thank you, Will! I just bought your book and am looking forward to reading it and incorporating your recommendations.
I'm very grateful for your practical researched based education. I did the thoracic stretch last night, wondering if I was doing it correctly. On waking this morning, I have no stiffness in my back!! Gentle yoga continues me do the other two exercises each day.
Excellent exercises; doable too. Glad to have found your Channel. Am 83. Able to do your exercise suggestions!
Thank God for your help and knowledge that your able to help so many people
Thanks. That was helpful and relevant. I am a 76 year old male and I live alone.
Wow! I found your video just by chance and I'm glad I did. Your explanation of the spine and the three sections and how they worked was very informative. I never realised the importance of those sections and what they do and don't do.
I'm definitely going to try the thoracic stretch now that I know what it is and how to do it. Thank you very much for sharing.
We all appreciate your clear explanations and demonstrations so much, Will. They are a lifeline out of what could be a restrictive old age. A big thank you.
Thank you so much, I'm pleased I'm able to share my work with others!
Excellent video! Clear and straightforward!
I can definitely see the benefit of practicing the getting up off the floor techniques. Thank you so much for sharing this!🙏
I started doing daily streches ( stretching my hands above my head ) and also made a conscious effort of my posture and this helped greatly with my lower backache, shoulder and neck pain. Great advice from you dr Will . its simple, doable and effective. Thankyou ❤
Oh my! The getting up from the floor is a great challenge for me. I forget to do this category everyday. Videos actually give inspiration. Methinks I have to watch yours everyday too get the habits established. When I was younger I walked and cycled and swam en did stretches for years. But for the last few years my circumstances and opportunity has changed and now I find that I suddenly need more strengthening exercises.
Me too!
What an excellent video! I'm going to start doing those. I don't get down onto the floor without having a stable chair close by to get up with, but it hadn't occurred to me to practice that daily. You've given me a lot of inspiration in this video. Thank you so much! I appreciate all the information you give us here.
It was a great video right! some great advice
You are a great help. Will. God bless you for your patience and deliverance ❤
Excellent exercises to help us all so very much indeed! I am so thrilled to have found your channel and have learned so much since. At our ages, if we don’t do all we possibly can with your help, well, we won’t improve. Your videos are amazing and clearly, much appreciated appreciated. Very many thanks indeed
Going whole food plant based diet really has helped me reduce pain.
Hi Will this is so useful and helpful. Wow thank you for your valuable time and knowledge.
Thank you so much, Will.
Very helpful! Great demonstrations.
I did enjoy ur video. Thank you for your motivation. 🪑🌼Have a great day.
Thank you for your clear, evidence-based videos. Ive been sharing them with my parents. Thank you!
Explaining the logic behind each exercise is very helpful. I'm a long way from being able to get up off a floor unaided but that is my aim.
Appreciate your precise instructions! Tnx so much.
Will, your channel is awesome! Great information on the calves and practicing getting up. I haven’t seen anything on these two topics before. Especially the correlation between your calf and knee/ankle pain. Brilliant! Your manner of explanation is always easy to understand.
14:48
Thank you for the kind words, Mike! Really glad it's useful
I’m 53 and found you because of shoulder pain. It actually hadn’t occurred to me that my age might have something to do with it! I can still sit on the floor and get up without thinking but will now bear in mind that I need to stay practised at it. Thank you Will!
Life changing info - thank you so much!
Thank you for these videos. I have found them extremely informative and motivational. I have osteoarthritis in my lower spine and these videos have me interested in taking care of myself rather than feeling sorry for myself. THANKS
Thank you so much. I appreciate learning these simple health-extending mobiliry exercises.
I have watched a lot of such videos but your are the best because it’s scentific, easy and the most practical and useful , thanks 🙏🏻
Excellent video. Thank you for demonstrating these exercises.
Excellent advice!! And explanation about the thoracic.
Thank you ♥️
thank you for taking the time to do this video. I'm not a senior yet, but it's right around the corner. I'm being proactive!
Thanks for another interesting, usefull video. Keep them coming!
Thank you so much for all you do😊
Just did all three, they help a lot. Thoracic stretch really opened me up, never realized how tight I was in this area. Definite keepers.
Excellent advice as always. Thank you.
You are God send for people over 50. A big God bless and a heartfelt Thank You.
Thank you. I am 52 and have Chronic Pain/Fatigue issues, plus some reduced mobility. I do struggle with getting off the floor, so will start the daily habit today. I will also do the other 2 exercises. I walk, ride my electric bike and look after a large house, but also work online, so stretches are needed.
Thank you Will - this is very helpful and well explained! Have subscribed.
Love love your videos so helpful thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much I really needed this info.!
Thank you. Will work on these
I am now in that place where my grandparents and parents were, in their time, and i wish I had known then all that I know now, including this, so I could have helped them!
Thank you, you do a great job, always!!
Excellent advice and exercise demonstrations. Thank you.
This guys the best in explaining the facts. Thx so much !
Thank you for the valuable info
Thanks, i am 77years and these exercises very imprtant for us👍🍀
So helpful. I have your book and watch all your video's. It really keeps me motivated. Forever grateful.
Absolutely one of the top channels out there.
Very informative love the thoracic exercise thank you Wil for clear explanation
Monica melia You are excellent at explaining how to do the exercisers which makes it easy to do them Big thank you to
Thank you so much for suggesting these stretches. It is going to help in improving myself and flexibility in movements. Indeed a wonderful suggestion
Thanks for this presentation on keeping knees in shape. Your explanations are always so thorough and clear. I've noticed a bit of a change in my knees as I'm aging--years of running, aerobics, hiking have contributed a bit. But I now am very conscious of stretching and walking every day which really help overall fitness. Thanks again so much for sharing your knowledge on keeping fit the correct way.
Thank you very much for your very helpful series of videos. They are fantastic. Very well done, concise and very, very informative, packed with excellent advice.
I noticed that when I crouch down I’ve had reduced range of motion in my ankles. I topple backwards. I also noticed lately I’ve been carrying my weight on the front of my feet which is causing instability in stepping. This calf exercise is exactly what’s needed. Thank you for a superb video. i also need the thoracic exercise because I’ve noticed lifting my head exactly as you mentioned. Brilliant info.
Another great video. I'm having such a fun morning watching these! Getting up via one leg is sooo crucial. I recently started doing lunges again to increase my strength. So glad to see it mentioned here. In addition I practice being on the ground and having the top of my foot on the ground and then curling my toes under me so that I can use my feet to help me up. I noticed I was losing some strength in that area of my feet and ankles and added that exercise to my days when I work on my shin strength as well. Gotta keep those kinetic chains moving smoothly! I haven't been doing thoracic extension. I forgot all about it. This video is a great reminder. [Going to work on it now.] I was very overdue. I got a good adjustment out of it. These videos make me feel more positive about aging. I'm not 50 yet, but soon. I wasn't looking forward to crossing that threshold and my recent (last 6 mos.) inactivity was making things worse. 50 doesn't look as bad now. It's a relief to have resources where we can learn the most current research via knowledgeable guides. Thanks, HT Physio!
Amazing information! Thank you ❤
Thanks 🙏🏻 Very helpful as always ❤
