You're missing the whole point of this car. It's a Spyder: it's about looks and performance (i.e. weight saving), not practicallity. If you want practicallity, get a Cayenne.
I wish you would use the specialist timing gear in all of your drag races, because that would offset the horrible reaction times that some of your other drivers have.
They do use it in all of the drag races .. in all the cars .. their bad reaction times might cause them to lose the actual race . But the timing gear only starts recording when they take off .. so the times are still accurate .
so, by the time you've got the roof down, the sun's gone in and it's started raining again....then you've got to put the bloody thing back up......brilliant 🤣🤣

That roof situation is just unacceptable. A miata costs a quarter of this car, is 50ish % lighter and the roof can be raised or lowered in 5 seconds or so.
The type of people buying these will not be driving with the roof up, ever - and Porsche know that. And, no one is getting one of these for retail price. $150k would be an extreme discount. These will be $200k+ cars, hoovered up by the ultra wealthy as part of their 5+ car garage, driven exclusively on summer days where the risk of rain is 0. Besides, there's no way a folding mechanism would fit in the smaller roof compartment. GT engine, more airflow needed, less space to work with. This is the only configuration this car was ever going to exist in, but like I said, Porsche don't care because the roof is academic to the owners. Rain is a problem for Bob down the road, not for Spyder RS owners.

It's not. The roof is really easy to use if done in the correct order. Still best to check the weather first though😅. Depending on how far I'm going, I usually just leave the roof in the garage.
I’d take this over the GT4 RS any day. I love the 4RS, so much so I’d probably take it over a GT3 from the sound from that carbon airbox alone. However, I’m a convertible guy. This combines the beautiful engine and carbon airbox sound from the GT4 RS but with so roof. It’s pretty close to perfect

Given the current ADMs for this thing, I truly believe a barely-used 718 Spyder is the better car. The roof is easier to operate and is more isolating to the elements, the drive is nearly just as fast, the manual is a dream to use and it’s just a better value. I find my Spyder just howls after 5000rpm and it’s bliss
The roof mechanism look a lot different compared to the standard spyder I've tried the standard 718 Spyder roof and it's much simpler probably because of the redesign of the intake system

Honestly, it took me a long time to go from 911 to boxsters and caymans. I did not want to hear about anything else than 911, I was this kind of owner. I have no shame admitting I was wrong after 15 years that saw 3 more 911 in the garage. I went for a Cayman R first, and this thing gave me so much more than my 911S. Then I had a gts and then a boxster spyder. I dont think I will go back to the 911, especially when there are Cayman gt4 rs available on the market.
I love the caymans and I wish porsche put even more resources into them. It's a small, light pocket rocket of a midship. I'm so glad they put a full on gt engine into it and I'm especially glad they didn't stop at the gt4rs.

It is an unbelievable car if you have your own garage and you don't really need to close the top and drive in sunny days only... I can see that how roof operates makes a lot of people nuts which is true but at the same time I think this car will have a future classic value because of that as well. While it is the last 718 with combustion engine which is a GT3 engine, having such roof mechanism on top of that will make this car a classic as well.

idk i believe this follows the parent companies open roof’s mechanism like the lambo’s. I mean these type of cars are specific to warmer weather, desert type of climates so they would expect you to have the roof on fewer times than its off.

They should just offer a hardtop for this car, with the same clipping points! Hopefully somebody will make it! Maybe add a roof scoop while you're at it and direct it towards the two side air intakes for the people that want it. This way you can always keep the softtop in the car as back up for the day you feel like taking off the roof and then it decides to rain :D
As with the 987.2 Spyder, reviewers use the roof as an opportunity for a bit of theatre and in doing so miss the brilliance of the two piece roof found on the 987.2 and now the RS. Both these cars can been used with the top section only which can be put up in 1 min and used as a sun/bad weather cap while retaining a great connection to the outside world. Matt you do great videos but it would have been much better if you’d shown its versatility and usability once you know how to use it rather than a bit of comedy f'ing about! Matt- Remember your quote in the video 'you like roof off all year round unless it’s raining? Well in the RS like the 987.2 Spyder when it’s raining you can just put the top cap on, if you get a go again try it you’ll then get the brilliance 👍
Anyone saying they wouldn’t buy it because of the roof isn’t even in the market for a car like this. If you are talking practicality, this car doesn’t belong in that market. It’s in the market for those with multiple vehicles and for many, the roof will probably stay down permanently. Porsche probably considered building it without a roof at all to be true to the roots of the original RSK. If they had, they would still sell every single vehicle made

They should just offer a hardtop for this car, with the same clipping points! Hopefully somebody will make it!
Maybe add a roof scoop while you're at it and direct it towards the two side air intakes for the people that want it.
This way you can always keep the softtop in the car as back up for the day you feel like taking off the roof and then it decides to rain :D
Carbon Removable hardtop is what this should have had.
As with the 987.2 Spyder, reviewers use the roof as an opportunity for a bit of theatre and in doing so miss the brilliance of the two piece roof found on the 987.2 and now the RS. Both these cars can been used with the top section only which can be put up in 1 min and used as a sun/bad weather cap while retaining a great connection to the outside world.
Matt you do great videos but it would have been much better if you’d shown its versatility and usability once you know how to use it rather than a bit of comedy f'ing about!
Matt- Remember your quote in the video 'you like roof off all year round unless it’s raining? Well in the RS like the 987.2 Spyder when it’s raining you can just put the top cap on, if you get a go again try it you’ll then get the brilliance 👍
Anyone saying they wouldn’t buy it because of the roof isn’t even in the market for a car like this. If you are talking practicality, this car doesn’t belong in that market. It’s in the market for those with multiple vehicles and for many, the roof will probably stay down permanently. Porsche probably considered building it without a roof at all to be true to the roots of the original RSK. If they had, they would still sell every single vehicle made

Confused as to why it was compared to the Boxster 4.0 instead of the normal existing Spyder?
I think with practice the roof would take around 1-2 minutes. Obviously isnt as fast or easy as an automatic one but not too bad for what it is
