Set in New York City's gritty East Village, the revolutionary rock opera RENT tells the story of a group of bohemians struggling to live and pay their rent. "Measuring their lives in love," these starving artists strive for success and acceptance while enduring the obstacles of poverty, illness, and the AIDS epidemic. RENT is based on Jonathan Larson's Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning musical, one of the longest-running shows on Broadway. The raw and riveting musical stars Rosario Dawson, Taye Diggs, Wilson Jermaine Heredia, Jesse L. Martin, Idina Menzel, Adam Pascal, Anthony Rapp, and Tracie Thoms and is directed by Chris Columbus.

Tick tick boom boom led me here...jonathan larsen.
You mean tick tick boom
@@danielastime3636 yes, thank u 😊
Me too 💔
Jonathan Larson*
It’s just tick tick boom
This movie made me cry horribly. As time passes by, I understand the story and relate to it more and more. I feel honored to be able to perform as Mark in a school production of Rent. Highly recommend watching it.
Aw this might sound like bad parenting but this movie was my whole childhood and I miss it so much!
Don’t worry. It was my childhood too 😭
Why is that bad parenting?
Not bad parenting.
@@Little_stud93 because the movie contains drug use and shows a sex worker
@@Ri57490 sex worker? Who is a sex worker?
RIP Jonathan Larson (February 4, 1960 - January 25, 1996), aged 35
You will be remembered as a legend.
I discovered this show when I was 12 bc I had a major crush on Idina Menzel. Half the things they sang about in La Vie Boheme I didn’t even understand. But I did understand that this was a groundbreaking musical about life, love, and loss. And my life was changed since. bless your soul, Jonathan Larson. VIVA LA VIE BOHEME 🤍🤟
Thank you, Jonathan Larson, for showing us the ways of music . You show us how to play and sing music from our hearts. R.I.P Jonathan Larson
I always wanted a friend group like the one this movie. I watched Tick Tick Boom, and a week later I met my friend Dakota. I reviewed the movie, then I met my friend Elijah. He invited me to join his channel, and now I have that group. Dreams are possible.
I keep saying I’m checking this out one day. I’m gonna finally make it the day soon.
I just watched this movie with my sister and it took me forever to stop crying!
Where can i watch it?
But wasn't it meant to be comical?
@@AsadAli-jc5tg a musical doesn't have to be comical. RENT is a result of a generational trauma caused by the AIDS pandemic in the US in the 80s-90s. It's about love, but it's also about death and how love prevails over it. It's not comical at all. It's just... life.
@@levindeed They could still have made a comedy movie on the very topic, ever seen Blackadder? A musical comedy would've been so popular in the mainstream.
@@AsadAli-jc5tg ah, lol. RENT the musical drove America CRAZY upon release in 1996. The same as Hamilton did 20 years later. It wasn't just popular, it created its own mainstream, because Broadway at the time was extremely dull. RENT it spawned a whole generation of complete nutters obsessed with Jonathan Larson's legacy, it won the Pulitzer Prize and a whole lot of other awards, and it ran on Broadway for 10 years straight, 8 shows a week, with complete sold outs. The movie isn't a "based on" situation, it's almost a word for word adaptation of what was happening on stage, with 90% of the original theater cast and the same songs, just with more modern instrumental arrangements.
It flopped in the theaters mostly due to the horrible promotion - this trailer basically depicts it as a romcom, which it isn't in the slightest. It's a story about people who try to survive and love each other despite their differences, gender attractions and the fact that half of them either dies or is destined to die very shortly.
I'm sooo late to this. I watched for the first time a few days ago and I have never cried so much. Damn it I had to buy it right after I watched it.
just thinking of the privilege of watching this for the first time...! and let me tell you, onstage and live, it's EVEN more amazing! a life-changing experience for sure
@@carmven9230 I watched a live version on here and it was good. But I prefer the cast on the movie. Some of the songs sang by other people in the live version didn't give me the same emotions.
I saw it on Broadway 18 years ago! Brilliant from start to finish. I am afraid to watch the movie in case of being disappointed!
Aww, I was getting ready to watch it but then when I seen comments about people crying to it I got kind of discouraged. I litteraly cried like a baby to jack frost the other day and I don't wanna cry today 🥺🥺. Ugh life's so complicated lol
The Musical changed my life, the Movie just put an exclamation point on it.
I feel you!
it changed my life too
There was a man who has eyes like a rodent and ears like a cat, he was the inspiration for this masterpiece of a musical
Very emotional movie. And you can tell Rosario Dawson and Tracie Thoms were both on a mission to PERFORM for this movie, being the only two members not part of the original broadway cast. They both played the hell out of their roles
Such amazing memories, I saw the live version in the 90’s
Such a kick in the feelings !!
My favorite musical
I really love this Musical
literally love rent omg
The memories. Sigh.
the musical is so life-changing, without this movie/musical, im pretty sure id still be lost in life, even though im still so young, im still struggling in life, but at least i know where im supposed to go with my life now.
thank you jonathan larson!
There are very few movies/movie musicals that my family shows me and I like the first time I see it. When it comes to films, I either am iffy about them, hate them, or it takes me a while before I become obsessed with them (usually musicals). But RENT is one of those films that I watched and fell in love the first time watching it. It was so good, and I lost it when Angel died. It is still one of my favorite musicals, and is probably my favorite musical movie adaptation.
Audrey Segedin - Thanks for your comment. I'll track it & give it a go.
Stay well - from a very chilly New Zealand
I remember from the 2000s when there was commercial I would hear seasons of love on repeat even on DVD commercials. Seasons of love was my nostalgic of the 2000s .
Who's here from tick tick BOOM!
How did you read my mind
For me it was sweet transvestite honestly
I have just Finnished it
Yep
No I'm here from being a kid watching this crap 😂😂
Let me just say. This movie truly holds a special place for me.
Just finished the movie, and I was sobbing by the end! I don’t usually cry during movies.
I didn‘t know there was a movie, too!! I just watched a musical production live and fell in love with all of (and, I will add with an utterly broken heart, most of all with Angel ❤)
Idina menzel fanboying phase is making me watch hours of at just seeing her
You guess she can let it go of her voice?
This music!!! I've watched it so many times and the music still gets me!!
Give me rent
You'll get your rent when you fix this DAMN DOOR!
@@tomwang5413 Bully maguire lol
*these songs are so nostalgic*
Here from the Quarterback episode of Glee…. Typed in the song from the beginning of the episode…. Wow funny Idina Menzel is in it since she was also in Glee. I have to watch this!!
The way I felt watching this was magical
wheres my money
Bride wars it’s a great movie from fox pictures and revolution studios.
who? is michael s ott
One of the very best movie musicals ever with a great cast too 😊💞
"Give me rent"
This musical Is actually Disney style because Angel from the Heaven saves Mimi's Life and saying to her to stay alive and to marry Roger.
Jason David Frank too from the Heaven saves the Life of Zayto the Red Fury Red Ranger and Koh The Ryusoul Red Ranger Key in the end of Dino Fury and Ryusoul Sentai and he said to them to stay alive ;)
What a wonderful idea that the spirits from the Heaven saves the people's Life and to stay alive Forever ;)
Rent was a true Disney Musical with Happy ending.
All beings have purpose and hope.
Bride wars (2005) - Official Trailer.
This movie is half without Mr. Ditkovich
DAMN DOOR
Give me a rent!
Who is here after watching tick tick...Boom? ✋
161 thousand views on a trailer for a hyper political film and only 18 dislikes. How is that possible
Dude, the original musical was released in 1996, the movie gets it almost word for word with 90% of the same cast. Gay and diversity rights weren't even politically recognized back then, how is it political at all. It's just one of those cases where if something is popular enough (and RENT was insanely popular), they make a movie about it. In this case - a good one.
Th3se are my people
Why haven't I heard of this movie???
Probably due to the film flopping at the time. The reviews were also mixed it wasn't hated but it wasn't loved either. There was little fanfare for Rent compared to Moulin Rouge! or Chicago.
Here after reading “They Both Die At The End”
Here after watching tick tick boom
I prefer LEASE the Musical.
You'll watch this Movie Rent WHEN YOU FIX THIS DARN DOOR!!!!
I love rent it’s my favorite musical ever ❤❤❤
❤️
Hello im Jonathan larson
I though they were saying "No gay bar today".. like odd thing to sing about until it said "No day but today" at the end.
😅😂
The best comedy movie of the 2000's. Man! that movie was soooo funny 🤣😂 seriously how much racist it was but still so hilarious 😂😆

This trailer made it look like a Christian movie to me as a kid 😅 (so i didn't watch it)

This has got to be the worst trailer I’ve ever seen.
