Set in New York City's gritty East Village, the revolutionary rock opera RENT tells the story of a group of bohemians struggling to live and pay their rent. "Measuring their lives in love," these starving artists strive for success and acceptance while enduring the obstacles of poverty, illness, and the AIDS epidemic. RENT is based on Jonathan Larson's Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning musical, one of the longest-running shows on Broadway. The raw and riveting musical stars Rosario Dawson, Taye Diggs, Wilson Jermaine Heredia, Jesse L. Martin, Idina Menzel, Adam Pascal, Anthony Rapp, and Tracie Thoms and is directed by Chris Columbus.

In Tick Tick Boom Jonathan is told to write about what he knows, and when you look at his life you can already see the pieces of RENT coming together. The way he lived, the friends he had. Amazing.
So true the way his friends are portrayed you can see pieces of his friends in each character it amazing that they where able to show that link in the film
En realidad, en respuesta a esa invitación escribe TTB!
Tengo entendido que Rent ya lo tenía comenzado, pero no lo concluyó hasta después de TTB!
Exactly! It’s awesome!
He made Rent because his friend, Angel, died of aids, sound familer?
And before that he writes Tick Tick Boom itself which, being an autobiographical play, its as close as you can get to "writing about what you know".
Just saw tick tick boom and came here. Jonathan Larson was amazing, its a shame he never got to see how big of a success his show was. I wonder what amazing musicals and songs the world could have had if he were alive.
Same
I just watched the movie and watch the clip here, too 😂
Got to know more about his works!
I wonder if he could have gone back to Superbia after Rent opened doors
Me too
true
If Jonathan Larson were alive, he would’ve showed tears of joy of what he had created.
No
Just like I am! I saw this live and will never forget it.
@@pollyb.4648 You saw Rent live respect
@@danieloleszek8081 Original cast, absolutely awesome.

That is awesome
RIP Jonathan Larson (February 4, 1960 - January 25, 1996), aged 35
You will be remembered as a legend.
I remember watching the BTS stuff on the dvd, and Tracie Thoms said she wasn't much of a singer. Like, girl, pls! 😂 She and Jesse Martin ATE here and left NO crumbs!
2024 and still loving Rent!
Best opening to a musical ever, no one can change my mind.
i realize Im kinda off topic but does anybody know of a good website to stream new tv shows online ?
Oklahoma probably 1B IMO
Interestingly, Seasons of Love isn't the opening to the actual musical. In the original stage production it's the opening of the second act.
no.
and not to say this is the best opening, but its better.

I love how you can hear their separate voices as the camera pass them!
This makes me tear up. The memories of a theater kid who can't sing and dance but had a dream. Been given chances to do it in school and outside. Never the main cast but a proud member and ensemble. Theater made me the person I am today. I'm 29 and Jonathan made me think about where I am and where I am headed
Mr. Ditkovitch’s favorite film.
“You’ll get to see “Rent” when you fix this damn door!”
🤣🤣😆 awesome
*SORRY DOESN'T PAY RENT*
Mr. ditkovich
I hope tick tick boom fuels a new wave of love for Rent. One of the most heartfelt musicals ever made, and my personal favorite ❤️
It most certainly did for me, Tick Tick Boom sent me down a rabbit hole, even just ordered the book Boho Days to read up more on Johnathan’s story.
It did for me, if it wasn’t for tick tick boom than all I would know about rent was the song seasons of love
Who else is here after watching Tick Tick Boom😭😭
I love this musical! Just watched Tick, tick... Boom last night and haven't stopped thinking about it. It's so inspiring what Jonathan accomplished and yet so tragic he didn't see the fruition of his labor. It's his forever legacy! 💙
Anyone else suprised that others have only more recently discovered the music RENT due to tick tick boom.. like makes sense but this has been one of my favourite musicals ever since it came out and I'm just so suprised how many don't know this musical!?
Good it’s getting recognized more now! I never heard of rent until my dad bought the DVD of the 2005 movie when I was around 13 years old and I loved it ❤ I forgot about it all these years until just recently at 30 years old 😢❤
I understand if you don’t like movie adaptations of beloved musicals, but think of us theatre nerds who don’t live in NY let alone the US 🥲 those movies are made for us ❤️
Very very good point. I’m super hard on this movie bc I was a huge RENT head growing up, but now realize how lucky I was to see it live while it was still on bway / touring. Hopefully you’ll get to experience it some day because there’s truly nothing like it! Especially the opening. I’ve seen the show live nine times 🤓 but it gives me chills every time.
Seasons of Love just NEVER gets old! I get goosebumps every time I hear it! Nobody sings that part better than Tracie!
That's my favorite part of Season of Love!
The opening of Rent is the best ever, for me.
Tracie Thoms voice is something else bruh
I’ve been watching Rent since I was in middle school - I am now 26 years old and this story still gets to me Everytime💛 This musical started my love for the theater! Jonathan will forever live on through his amazing songs!
Same :)
2023 and still loving RENT!
Hello from 2024!
Yes my first time really hearing a heart swelling musical on like Rent hooked me for years. So much love for me to drown in... 😍 ❤❤❤
The cinematography and editing in this film are exceptionally good.
You'll get your rent when you fix this damn door!
I even tried to say the same
*HE IS ....... A good boy*
I saw this 3 times with my late Dad. Still amazing.
tracie thoms can’t be topped with that high note🔥❤️❤️💯💯
My sister showed me this movie and I....I didn't expect to cry as hard as I did but alas...
The movie about the creator Jonathan Larson creating Rent premiers today!
@French Vanilla tick tick boom
In 3:32 When I saw, Book, music and Lyrics by Jonathan Larson, My eyes filled with tears. It's impossible not to get goosebumps after watching Tick tick boom !
Ah, dear Jonathan, how I wish you were here to see the size of the impact your work has had.
Regardless of where you are now, know that you woke up not just one, but several generations. God bless you
Thank You Jonathan Larson.

What a sophisticated "La Boheme" (Puccini) quotation in the guitar solo at 6:40!

Such a good movie with an amazing soundtrack
Nice,Mr. Ditkovich must be very proud.
Had the blessing of seeing this 3 times on Broadway! MOOOOOOO🐄
Holy cow that’s bovine!
I was lucky to be invited to be an usher for this show I had never heard of. Mind blowing and all the superlatives!
Mooo
I can’t believe the Farewell tour is NOW!
I lot of people hate the movie for never coming close to the original but I actually like it
La vie boheme is like my favorite thing ever and it’s great in the movie
I can’t get over that Tracie Thoms is in this. I first saw her in 911 and I had no idea she could sing.
RIP Jonathan Larson.

Doubt it. This had a decent amount of the og cast.
YES. But as the performed and/or filmed stage version. While I appreciate how many people got to know my beloved RENT through this movie, there is absolutely no comparison to every aspect of it in stage
This song is instructive on the scale of large numbers. Numbers gets so thrown around these days... how many miles to the moon? I actually looked at the math, and indeed, a year is "only" 525,600 minutes. Seems like it should be more? We have no conceptual understanding of numbers.
I remember reading a list “You Know You’re A Rent Fan When….” and one of them was “You know how many minutes are in a year without having to do the math.”
Coming back to this after watching Tick Tick... Boom. Brings back memories from a younger me.
Love this song, seasons of love
Recently I've grown to love Larson's music, I've listened to the OG Tick Tick Boom soundtrack, seen Rent and also listened to a compilation record of unreleased material called "The Jonathan Larson Project" and I could safely say he could've been something akin to Elton John and Billy Joel had he lived, to me three of them are my musical trinity ❤️
More akin to Michael Jackson! Because like Michael, Jonathan knew what what worked. Not just the fans, but with the world. They both put their hearts and souls into everything they do. Also they both wanted to open the eyes of people that were and still dying. They both cared about human beings being who they where.
3:39 gave me chill
Bravo Jonathan! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Give me rent!
great talent and beauty the passion burns start to end
I love this movie! I grew up watching this, knowing this whole song 😢❤
