I personally think both have their merits, two sides of the same coin essentially. Social Media drumming definitely showcases more creative and imaginative ways to play drums, while real drumming always has its roots within musical and band contexts. Of course, who says the two can't go together! Cheers Zack
Man, you're BORN TO DO THIS! The confidence... There's something really satisfying and inspirational in seeing someone filling out (no pun) their purpose so deeply.
Wow, whoever asked that question is extremely well spoken, that's an extremely complicated question and the person asking it articulated absolutely perfectly, like, i completely understood what they were talking about. Yeah it's tricky, I grew up self-taught and learnt most of what i knew through social media drummers too, it's only until I started playing with other musicians I learnt to play to the groove.
Just what I needed, Its 2am down under and I needed one last video before I was gonna go to sleep and Zack you are THE man I be wantin to see whenever I open UA-cam. Love the content dawg.
I really appreciate how you said both approaches to drumming are not mutually exclusive. I do love listening and watching videos of solos and crazy fills, but I absolutely DESPISE playing with a drummer who plays like they’re filming for instagram. Part of being a great musician I’d knowing when and where to play something.
As Zack states correctly, the band will let you know if you are over-playing. The inverse is also correct; the band will let you know if you are under-playing which, is the preferred “problem”. Serve the SONG and your bandmates will love you!
It’s funny, I play in a rock band with original songs and one day it hit me: „oh shit I’m totally overplaying! It’s so busy all the time“ .. it’s really a realisation. Because the intention is originally to make cool things and really craft every part.. all of a sudden YOURE the overplayer and the bass player is just too nice to say something. Haha now i tuned it down.
His comments around 1 minute about drummers playing everything all the time... Clearly there's time to play and time to groove. Chops are beautiful displays of what the drums can do, and it's enjoyable to hear.
The thing that got lost in all this is that when playing with other musicians chances are your playing a song. Maybe in some situations, like improve, giving other musicians space is appropriate but otherwise play the song! Do what the song needs, serve the song!! Ive played w so many people that wanna play drums or guitar and forget or dont care or are unaware that when playing songs they stop being instrument players and need to become song players. There, rant over.
I love how Zack bring smiles to people but sharing insights among jokes at the same time. Love you Zack!
Totally. When someone is that sincere and friendly, you really listen to him and learn from him

Real music cant work if the drummer is going crazy and cant keep a beat
@Deaf by Hip-Hop not true lol. I mean if you can't keep time maybe sure but going crazy with the right band can be sick!

Bro have you ever thought of doing stand up comedy ? You’d kill it hahah
art is about creativity, and it is rare. most music is not art regardless if they are on social media or not.
What a bright future ahead of you!
Damn I thought he was about to ask for a kiss, I’m deeply disappointed
You’re also a standup comedian 😀 I mean you’re natural, don’t need to prepare the jokes beforehand :) “Sensitivity-touch…” 😅😅
Πρώτος!

Where are you guys located?
Most social media drummers cannot play a song on the drums
All this styled like our Generation, Demography, Cultures, Cultural Heritage is Creepy as Fuck
The human factor. All this computer generated stuff has no feel. No soul.
The drumming challenges on social media is just as bad as the tide pod challenges
Dude obviously hasn’t seen El Estapario Sebiriano.. or Eloy Casagrande channels
They’re much better than this average Joe
