I'm addicted to U/tube and find interesting people daily but every now and then I find Gold. Two weeks ago I found you. I love your work and and your humour. I have a soft spot for boats and Germany where I spent a month backpacking in 2000. I look forward to the rest of your interesting work. Greetings from Aussie.
Waiting to for next winter Sir. is your best bet, Temp repairs, Good for now , I agree stay on schedule to get the boat ready for the water, and all hull repairs and issues address good to go !
Man there is always gonna be negative comments when it comes to people being jealous of that beautiful piece of steel, just keep trucking and do what you can with what you have.
Patching the holes like that will last decades if you maintain the boat properly. Nothing wrong with what you have done. They are not structural. Good job.
Not sure if that will last for decades, but at least it should last long enough to address the essential issues, live in the boat, enjoy it some time... As you mentioned, those rusty parts are not structural parts, so no worry.
@@gillesgomez3091 it is perfect you can repair structural areas on aircraft wing like that and it's fine assuming long as you move to a new country within a couple of years to avoid "legal issues" later
Your right, it's your boat you have the last say. For someone who is not a professional, you have a lot of determination and that makes a lot of difference. I'm looking forward the finish, good luck with your ideas 😊.
You my friend have a great sense of humor. don't listen to the negative comments, it's your project and your money. Your budget will predict the speed of it all. Try not to put too many deadlines in place. It will be done when it's done.
Make sure you ventilate the Helm-room very very good! That is why there is rust in all the corners. Good thing you keep the diesel-heater. In colder weather conditions you should use it a lot to give damp and moisture no chance. A big problem with living in steel ships in colder temperatures. Ventilate, ventilate, ventilate. Keep up your good work. Love yr vid’s!! 👍
Hi. I found this video series yesterday. And bingewatch everything. Lovely videos. Looking forward to many more episodes. Looking forward to see the boat on the water. Keep up the good work 👍
Sending you a coffee. You're videos have saved me soooo much money 💰💸. I was going to buy a very similar boat but now I have seen just how much work it would be, I've decided not to! Good luck man 👍 I'm confident you will finish.
I like watching your videos I hope you keep them up they're really interesting I enjoy watching them and don't worry about whatever anybody else thinks it's your boat
You are doing a great job. I love your series! In the future you should probably move the diesel heater exhaust below the heater. They tend to trap moisture in the pipe and it will have issues. I learned this the hard way. :)
Another video of amzing work on your boat. I am always of the mind that if it's your boat, and you have a deadline to get her in the water, then you have to do what you need to do to make her as good as possible to reach that deadline. I am also worrying that you only have 2 weeks until splash, but you haven't even touched the outer hull of the boat. I just hope that there aren't any major problems below the waterline. Keep up the good work. Best regards from bonnie Scotland.
Nice Job You are doing... Here is a pro tip,,, Tack weld your project first, it will allow you to test fit all your different components together, then once everything fits as it should then weld up. Tack welds are easier to cut apart than a complete weld joint.... i learned the hard way 40 years ago...
G'day Crew,, Great to see all the progress ,im sure you will make a cosy home of the boat . Good luck with the donations ,, living on a budget isnt easy at times,,but you will be fine im sure . Respect from Down Under
Got to get it on the water so you can enjoy it ! Hopefully your temporary fixes will last the season !! The helm and cabins are a "blank canvas" ! Start dreaming of what you want to do this coming fall/winter/spring !
"Two weeks until water." I guess that means you plan on doing the rest of the interior work after launching? I admire your tenacity & appreciate your hard work, your boat is a beauty & deserves all the love You're giving her, great job! Just imagine how much this project would've cost if you didn't know how to weld!?! Oh my!
I really enjoy watching your videos. I can feel your pain with the work but just think of the pleasure of the motoring when ready. I am very impressed with your ability to get on and find solutions and use equipment and tools. Well done. Please keep up the videos and commentary. Brill.
I too have to say, don’t worry that much about those fixes. You covered them acceptably. A mistake would be covering them again and forgetting them for years! All those perfectionists have fixing boats as a hobby. You (and me too) are working hard to bring this boat on the water and enjoy boating. Then, a bit of "controlled rush" is totally acceptable :) Good luck there!!!!!
Your doing a great job, here in Ireland we say “He who pays the fiddler, calls the tune” it’s your boat, so you do it your way 👍 one tip, please ensure when mounting the fuel pumps for the diesel heaters, that you mount them in an insulated suspended way, they’re renowned for being very very noisy, it’s the clatter from the solenoids inside, ‘click, click’ will drive you crazy. 😃👍
10/10 for vids and work you are doing!!!! "Done" is often FAR BETTER than perfect. Many of your "temporary fix's" are good for the duration of your ownership of this vessel. Only do future repairs as they become problems again as this boat is very over-built by today's standards. Some yrs ago I did a similar project. Initially I made a mistake of trying to restore things back to the original design, making some tasks much more complex and harder than necessary. Eventually I came to realize changing the design could be far more efficient. Eg #1: On the lower area of the windshield, Don't cut out metal and replace it to make it look like original sheet goods. Consider cutting out the 'T' stock, weld in a 3" high band of 3/32" metal across the entire bottom edge. #2: Outside - If a series of rust areas show to the outside in a line, consider adding a wide(ish) strip of metal overtop everything as a 'belt-line' across an entire face/wall. Slightly new look, done in 1/2 the time. Many of your "temporary fix's" are good for the duration of your ownership of this vessel. Only do future repairs as they become problems again as this boat is very over-built by today's standards. Get yourself some better tools. A light duty but commercial level MIG welder (higher duty cycle for more continuous welds) and a good random orbit sander will increase your productivity tenfold.
if you ever dock in Norway during the winter you should be plenty warm enough in below freezing weather also recommend pipe warming heaters for your sink drains and your gray water outlet.
Great progress Bro and your right your Boat your video! You are doing what you got to do to get it ready for the water I can tell it will not be forgotten, address it later and i have been watching since the beginning I solute you for the job you have done! Cheers'
Don't pay attentions to the haters. This is your boat and project. You do it how you want. If someone doesn't like it, they can get their own project. Then they can put it on UA-cam and have the haters comment on their videos. Just keep doing what you want.
I strongly agree with the idea of getting rid off the ugly orange paint. Now is becoming yatch-ty looking. Super nice. I am sure you will get more sponsors than needed.
I learned many years ago that a very real definition of "boat" is a hole in the water into which you pour a lot of money. Looks like you are doing a great job.
Can't wait for the next video to drop. Once lockdown here in Ireland lifts, I have to do battle with rust on our boat (11m kotter). Your videos have helped dispel my fear and hesitancy. Also: I agree with Owen, focus on the exterior now. The interior can be done after you are in the water. And that way we can see more footage of you painting ;-).
Nothing wrong with giving it a temporary fix! nothing at all. If you plan on doing it right later on that your decision and it really no bodies business. Totally respect that bud. Looks fine for a temporary work.
good work. keep up with the videos. I quite enjoy them and I do understand about doing a boat restoration in phases. U may not know that but BOAT stands for Break Out Another Thousand. There massive money pits.
You've done very well. You're right, major metal replacement takes time and a temporary fix will do fine on the forward helm. Just as long as the future has the major repairs done eventually. I see you have a passion for repairing and the love of your boat and I know you'll get it done eventually. You've done super work and of course it has taken a lot of money. I think we are all with you on this and are really looking forwards to the completion. Even after that there'll be things to do. And you will have the satisfaction that you did it all. Oh! And yes a big hole in the bank balance!!
