Hello from Canada 🇨🇦, Montreal to be exact. I’m really enjoying your videos and am always looking forward to the next one. Seeing you two remind me a lot of when my wife and I started dating. We were each a year younger than you two and this coming November we will celebrate 42 years being together. Living in a sailboat cruising the world was always my dream but I never had the opportunity, or perhaps I never pushed hard enough for it. Most likely the latter. All the best to you both.

Hi there guys! A spot of sleuthing and I see that you're still on, or very near, to the Nthrn. Gold Coast!. You must have the most rust free hull on the Eastern Seaboard! Fantastic job guys! 😊 Now comes the primer and antifoul. I haven't read any recent reviews of the effectiveness of the newest antifoul products so can't comment on them but I do remember hearing much wailing and self - flagellation when they brought out the first 'green ' antifoul paints because they just flamin' didn't work! A laudable effort to save the marine environment but the molluscs loved it! Now at last they could clamp on to any hull that they came across no wuckin' furries mate, she'll be sweet! And she wasn't !
Many yachties went to extraordinary lengths to lay their hands on any residual supplies of the old stock. The problem with the 'old stuff' was that it was quickly turning marinas into sterile zones as the toxins used leached out of the paints to settle onto the seabed with disastrous consequences for the harbours and estuaries et al.
Glad you have a steel boat! I don't like plastic, it's wood or steel for me! When you hit plastic it breaks in the most horrible way 😢.
I take it that you're heading for points North? I have been all my life a very enthusiastic amateur meteorologist and so I am following with great interest the many and varied climate modifiers and over recent years I think I may have isolated one related to tropical cyclone behaviour. This is that it's looking to me that TC's have undergone a significant eastwards migration away from Q'ld and most of the Coral Sea and into the SW Pacific Islands region. That will probably be on balance good for Q'ld but not so hot for the Islands such as Fiji, Solomons and so many others. I've forgotten who it was amongst the Libs who found it amusing that the islanders would probably all be swimming inside the next decade because of sea level rises but they certainly don't share the joke! Neither do I.
Now the weather is going to prove me comprehensively wrong for even daring to second guess Gaia!

Great job! I own a 50ft steel sailboat and have been through the same thing. How much Zinc anode do you carry on your bottom? I carry about 75 pounds. I used to only have one on each side midship and one on the skeg when I bought her and I added 3 welded to the keel and two more diver plates to the aft end. It made a bid difference when I hauled out a year and a half later as far as galvanic corrosion goes. I feel a little more protected. I have a galvanic isolator and all that stuff that they like to argue about on the steel boat sites, but I am pretty set up off grid and don't like plugging into shore power at a marina and if I do it's just an extension cord run through my port window and nothing running through my AC system. Wood is good and glass is fast but Steel is real. Rust hides but never sleeps!

Having a 8m boat I can appreciate the hard work. Mine is GRP so not so difficult except for osmosis blisters. As already mentioned pay close attention to anode size and placement such as shaft, rudder (?post) as well as the hull. I think I recall you have an electrical background so checking the continuity of all anodes back to the negative battery pole is crucial. Being a first timer maybe you should seek the advice of an expert. I used to maintain a 20m x 8m steel catamaran and became paranoid with cathodic protection. Did you consider sand blasting. It is so crucial with antiquing that you apply the correct wet fim thickness. The correct amount of paint required can be calculated from the below waterline surface area. If applied too thin then you will need more coats. Generally keep painting until all paint as calculated is applied. Get it wrong and you could be lifting out in a few months instead of 2 years (hopefully), Best wishes. A great learning exercise.

Josh has 3cm steal splinter, Phoebe has bare feet 🤦. Good work on a budget. Hopefully next time (if required) be able to afford sandblasting raw, sprayed primer, then diy the rest.
Consider having the rudder ready to drop when lifted out, replace bearings/seals.
Folding prop be good. But the way ur channels going, all that stuff should come easier.

We own a steel yacht thats very similar in size and design to Innerbloom. We'vee had it since 2011, and to date haven't needed to do this treatment... but last year we antifouled, and it had the exact same blisters and speckled pattern following the water blast, and i've been procrastinating on pulling her and doing the work... So thanks for outlining the ten-step process and products for me guys! 😂 I'll be watching the episode again and taking notes, what are the other discs you mentioned??

I have doubts about the neglected metal boats surrounding you while in water to be the cause of your electrolyse problem. I never met a steal boat owner who knew was is the cause of theses bubbles, i wish i would 😢. Did you check if there is a flow of current in your hull? (12v/24v between the hull and a negative of battery). A simple sand blast gun (few dollars) connected to a minimum 100l compressor is much more efficient (it cleans the surface from rust and create a grip for the paint treatment with no need of previous acid treatment) than a grinding machine....this for small area...on top of it the gun may reach area not reachable by a grinding machine (of course a compressor is needed). Good luck...and don't fall in the boatyard trap ...do what you have to do without considering what you discover otherwise you will end up rebuilding the full boat...(on a old boat almost everything is broken, we just don't know it 😅)
