I have followed many artists in my learning of watercolours, and acrylic on canvas, and have had fun learning. I love painting and have just started following Charlie Evans, in my mind Charlie is the best so far. Down to earth and straight forward and so easy too follow. I have quite a few blank canvasses to fill, and plenty of watercolour paper as well. What can I say except my thanks to Charlie.
Lovely, simple scene, but it has loads of impact. You make your viewers realise that even something as simple as this makes a lovely painting. Thank you.
Another great painting of an empty garden! I was certain Bert would have been included in this one. He would have looked great sitting on the grahss (with the lawnmower marks). Also great use of the digits and red wine work. Very nice, Charles! Can't wait to see what else you can find out there.
Another great painting Charlie, ordered pocket book and some materials and wanted to show support to you as well as a thank you for keeping us all entertained
Another great demo. So full of respect, not only for your work, which goes without saying, but also for taking the time to make these free videos for us. Thanks.
Charles by taking the time to record these videos you are doing more than giving helpful inspiring tuition you are also helping a lot of people during a strange (and for some) a difficult time. Thank you.
Good morning Charles, and Bert. I love this painting that you have done, it looks so peaceful, but a happy place to be. Those birds are just like mine in my garden all airing their lungs! I have three of your paintings, all different but all have that peaceful feeling to them. Thank you so much for sharing your time and art yet again, I learn something new every time I watch you. (Just going to buy your pocketbook, got a few of your book, but not this one) Please stay safe, your family and Bert too. x😃
Thank you! If the weather holds, please continue with these garden paintings. You are providing valuable instruction and inspiration to many of us who are stuck at home. My own 'garden' is covered in concrete - definitely not a subject for a masterpiece but an ideal use of 'sand'! Keep well.
Very well done Mr Evans. A nice painting of a pretty scene. I have several of your books and I can vouch for your Charles Evans Pocket Book. Very usefull.
Thanks Charlie and Gail. The lines in the lawn... Brilliant! And now I don't feel like Such an idiot doing branches of trees from out to in , instead of from the center outwards all the time. I'll draw them from center out but I paint them the opposite. It's great you get to enjoy your lovely garden for a change. BTW we in the states pronounce "grass" the Northumberland way.😉👍
I love those trees Charles, great method and I'm going to try your Hookers green combination for different greens, which is always a problem. I used Hookers green and burnt sienna this morning before watching this, so must try with light red. Thanks for the great tutorial.
Excellent video Charles, you've inspired me to have yet another attempt at painting from photos of my golf course! Never could get those stripes looking right.... Thanks a lot, keep up the good work.
I hope the weather holds, Charlie! Very much looking forward to more backyard paintings. By the way, the "heap" on the grawss can be considered a hibernaculum; a valuable home for the little critters!
Love the mixture of greens and tree branches in this. I’m anxiously waiting for my Charles Evans brushes to arrive (Australia is a long way) so I can try this painting. Thank you Charles.
Fantastic demonstration as always Charles, thankyou. Been a follower of yours since you first appeared on the TV. Brought all the early dvds and various books etc... over the years. Would love to see a Charles Evans watercolor pencil demonstration in the future if it takes your fancy. Subject suggestion, maybe a corner of your house would make an interesting subject. Demonstrating stonework, windows and small flower garden detail. Just an idea, you have to edit it into a watchable UA-cam video. Stay safe and well. Thanks again, Andy.
love your simple way but inspiring video. How nice of painting under the warm sun and listening to bird singing at all time. Thank you so much for your effort and time. Where can I buy the book?
Another great video, Mr Evans. On the subject of suggestions....I remember you were on the telly a good few years ago (might have been Tyne tees, I'm not sure) doing a series of programmes. One episode that has stuck in my mind was a picture you painted of a line of soldiers marching off into the distance. It would be great if you could re-produce something similar - it was a fantastic painting. All you're paintings are so good, but this one was special. Cheers.
Yes the programmes were on Tyne Tees, Yorkshire tv and Border tv. Then Discovery tv. Going on 20 years in total. I remember that painting well. It’s not one I would repeat, it made me sad!
I'm red green colourblind and am itching to have a go, just love your demonstrations, so will be ordering a set of colours from you... Ill have to be very scientific in my colour mixing and follow your example carefully or it might look like a dogs dinner to all but me.....
I really like this one sir, and want to thank you for giving the names of the colors as you paint, truly beautiful , I have trouble in the mixing of colors, thank you so much for sharing your talent.
I love your videos, you are my kind of artist, that is how I paint, free from restrictive horizon lines etc. Absolutely love that sand colour. Are there any mixes of paints to get to a similar colour? I live in Australia and although I would love to get that sand colour with the exchange rate and freight, it adds up to around $50 or more Aussie dollars, and I just can't justify that when I am only just starting out with watercolours.
But your split bucket? I can't find it! Any suggestions about where it might be found? Also, recieved your book yesterday...best $15 I've spent in a long time. Loving your COVID-19 paintings! 🖌👍
Brian Rogers thank you so much. We still sell the split bucket, but they’re cost prohibitive to post out because of the size of the bow they come in. You could get one by emailing the website and Gail will let you know the postal costs!
Great video. You make everything seem easily achievable. I have your pocket book which sits next to my brushes for easy reference. Two things: I tried to paint your Boulmer painting, but was disappointed by my efforts to paint the sea. Have you filmed a 'Quicky' on how to paint seawater? Secondly, in your pocket book you recommend a metal or porcelain palette, neither of which can I find on sale anywhere. Can you tell me where to source one?
Pleased you enjoyed the video. No I haven’t made a quickie in sea, but I might do one at some point. The metal palette is not available anymore, practically impossible to get Holbein, which is what I use.
Good morning, Mr. Evans! I'd like to ask You a question: You use synthetic brushes which take a lot of paint and paint thick. In addition, you often use colours just about black. But at the end of work, your paintings turn into bright and cheerful. What's the secret?
Can Charles Evans Sand be re-wetted or should you only put out as much as you will use? Is it gouache based? I just received my books and brushes. Love them! Was amazed at how quickly they arrived. Your shipping is better than Amazon. 😁
nice painting there Charles as always ,hey i know this sounds cheeky but any chance of one of your old smocks ?doesent have to be brilliant one from when you were sponsored by some one else so you dont show there name now cos your sponsored by some one else summat to remember you by ,we have a saying in yorkshire ,if you dont ask you dont get you must have a few kicking about in garage lol it will make me get out there looking the part lol ,be great if you could accommodate cheers Ant from sunny Wales .funny enough .
Might I suggest you add a direct link to your website in the description box below EACH video? I've just started watching you this past month. I'll thank CV for that. 👍 If I had a garden like that I'd be painting plein air daily. Nothing better than bird sounds instead of the same tune on repeat to drive you mad. Red Wine stroke would be a hit on a tshirt or apron. Dib dab also on another. Trademark if possible. 😉 Btw...Tell Gayle thank you. Helpful information. I knew it, but others may not yet.
Is that a Screwfix pencil? Lol, I always find I draw better with those small types of pencils. Used to love your programs that used to be on the drawing and painting channel around 2006-2009. And loving these relaxing videos just as much. Subscribed and liked.
Please do not stop posting. If you only cleaned the pallet, so we would better see the mixing of the paints. Last one... How would you approach a more detailed watercolor painting?
Have a look on my website. Lots of detailed watercolours on the gallery. And no, I won’t be cleaning my palette. I don’t change my processes for anyone!
