Hello! We are Holly and Stephane 🇺🇸🇫🇷
We have made the transition from full-time software professionals from the SF Bay Area to liveaboard sailing explorers who always keep one eye on the weather and our hearts in a song. Our goal is to complete a circumnavigation and we recently transitioned to a performance catamaran and are madly in love with our Outremer 52. We are working with Outremer in France (with the help of Google translate) to launch our boat project and start our journey as sailing vagabonds. While it’s not a race or speedtest, we are doing our first Bluewater crossing this year and we are excited to see AWEN stretch her legs and dance on the water. Join us as we share what we’re learning living without Amazon, (but with Starlink), and attempt this new life of travel and adventure on the ocean. Please be patient with us as we continue to improve our UA-cam vlogging skills. Our goal isn’t to make our life a movie, it’s to give back to what others have shared with us, which is why we don’t monetize our channel.

That would be great to meet up. New Awen looks beautiful! Blue Saga has had lots of subtle "tuning'" and is working great! Next season Greece, Italy and winter in Tunisia unless plans change.... Fair winds.

That's a lovely boat. I'm currently going through the process of researching my next (and hopefully "Forever") boat. This, a slightly smaller Balance (the 482) and the Seawind 1600 are pretty much my shortlist. So I'm keeping a keen eye on your channel to see if it helps influence my decision. Also interested to hear your opinion on Starlink once you've had chance to give it some thorough use.

Shes beautiful congratulations. How are liking the position of the stove? For Me that would be a problem. Seeing that it's set far back in the corner and me being 5ft tall. I would have issues reaching and cooking
It’s perfectly fine, not too far back, I’m 5’2”. The bigger issue for me is reaching the hatches so I got a step stool!

What a stunning boat the performance in light wind is what i think you will be amazed with .
The ability to sail were big production you would be motoring is what i think will be amazing as well as a tighter wind angle.

Great boat. Does the helm have an enclosure or how does it work it exyreme weather and heat??
You can helm from inside the cockpit or salon at the nav station if it’s a passage. We rigged the lines so you tilt the wheel inside and can do everything from the cockpit. However if you are coming/going to anchor or dock, that’s outside with the elements. Our video that drops tomorrow shows you what rain looks like :-)

Just curious but did you ever think of weighing what you have put on board your Outremer just for reference? Enjoying following your channel also btw.look forward to any more episodes of getting in to the systems on board etc

so looks like the switch was due to speed and lite wind sailing .compared to comfort as the other boat was larger and had more for comfort ?
The motivating factor was joy of sailing and range, meaning light wind, upwind, responsiveness and average speed. As it turns out, we have much more space in the O52 than we had on our last boat, it’s also 5 feet bigger and much more comfortable. The comfort factor has to do with living space and storage but moreso it doesn’t smash and bang as much. We sleep better due to the smoother ride, and we trust the boat because it sails with such confidence. Hope this helps :-)

Congratulations guys, gorgeous boat & love the black North sails ❤. The only thing I don’t quite understand is the chart plotter location, seems to be in an ergonomically compromised location between the upper and lower helm, how have you found using it so far to be? Hope your enjoying being one of the first ones out there with this beauty, I imagine you get lots of attention!
The chart plotter spins around so you can easily see/use from helm or while inside cockpit. Seems to be pretty easy to use.
@@SailingAWEN yep understand, from the looks of it seems like you are not able to reach it to interact with it if you are standing at the helm, you have to leave the helm to adjust anything (like switching between radar/, tweak the AP, zoom in/out to check obstructions/other vessels AIS info, etc) is there an additional Chart plotter inside or is the screen just repeating the outside plotter? Thanks for sharing!
@kirkb3473 I usually use the helm tilted in a bit, not straight up so I’m more often more forward and can access sheets and winches easily. When sitting, I tilt the helm out. Our main chart plotter is inside at the Nav station because we use Adrena. Hope that helps! - Holly
