    Your notebook is amazing! So neat and organized. I'm inspired. Love that you write horizontally and vertically--- both methods are important. I was so used to reading horizontally from using the Genki 1 & 2 textbooks. When I switched to reading native Japanese kids books, it took my brain time to adjust to reading vertically.

      Same for me back then it took me such a long time to adjust my brain to write vertically ✍🏻 !! But it looks good doesn’t it 😊 thank you for watching and for your sweet comment!

      You should check out "A Japanese Reader". It's really for those who want to master reading in Japanese. And it has mostly vertical Japanese

    Thanks for the review! Not too easy to find people going through Tobira nowadays with all the new textbooks out 😂😂 Would love your opinions on the Quartet textbooks one day if you ever have the chance to get your hands on it!

    Thanks for sharing and for also sharing how you used this textbook, which have played an important role in my deciding to use it as an intermediate textbook between Minna no Nihongo beginner I&II and Shin Kanzen Master N3 books.
    Surprisingly, my transition to this textbook had less hurdles (could get main ideas of audios and texts up to lesson 3 from the start), but I definitely agree that this textbook offers a balanced and interesting learning journey.
    See you soon in another of your videos!
    ***

    As you talk in english, I'll write in english ;) . Thank you so much for this review. Indeed this book is obsessing me and I wasn't able to find a good review or explanation until now. Thank you also for showing how you're training on your notebook. (it's so cool and beautiful !!) . I have a question though: about the grammar part
    : did you wrote only on the textbook, or did you write some notes elsewhere and how. Thanks again!!!

      Hello and thank you for your comment!! I did not take any notes from the grammar section of the Tobira textbook: I did 3 rounds of reviews of these grammar points using only the textbook itself! 🙌🏻

    I thought of giving Tobira a try after reading your review. I've just started N3 with Minna No Nihongo Chukyuu. Man I got so discouraged. I can't read most of the kanji even in the first lesson, but the book looks so good. Now I'm wondering if I will ever improve in Japanese. Tobira made me feel illiterate.😭

      Oh noooo!! actually if that makes you feel less alone I had the same experience at first!!! I could not understand anything at all 😅😂 but then I trusted the book and its method to teach me how to get my understanding to that level, which it did! It took me 6 months but I got there!

      Nothing could make me happier because that is the EXACT reason why I made this video: when I first started the textbook, I literally understood nothing: the layout, the exercises, even the purpose of the textbook, I was just lost! And when I looked for explanations online, I literally found nothing. So I'm happy if my video can give some info! :D Good luck with your studying :)

    Q: should we use the three books together or separately? I.e. finish grammar then begin with kanji

    • @arinoyume
      @arinoyume  2 роки тому +2

      Hello!! Thank you for your question. In my opinion, the kanji book can be done separately (which is what I did in fact) however I wouldn’t recommend the grammar book since there are better and less boring resources for that out there! 👏🏻

    Sorry if you mentioned this in the video already but did you also get the workbook, kanji workbook and grammar workbook? I’m trying to decide if the textbook alone will suffice?? What do you think?

    • @arinoyume
      @arinoyume  6 місяців тому +1

      I did buy and use the kanji workbook!! It was great!! You can see me use it in my kanji beginner routine video (from that period too) 😍 the grammar book is very badly ranked so I never got it, and to your question on whether the main textbook is enough: yes it is! If you want to also get extra kanji practice then you can get the kanji workbook too ☺️

    My problem with Tobira is that it doesn't have an answer key, at least for the reading comprehension exercises.

    • @arinoyume
      @arinoyume  Рік тому +1

      That’s true! It’s supposed to be a book that you use in class, but the next best thing can be asking your tutor about it if you have one (for conversation practice for example). Or if you really can’t ask anyone, you can pass on those questions altogether and take from the textbook only what you are sure to understand! 👍🏻

      Thank you for your comment because I think it is very important to keep an open mind about this and always remember that the 'perfect' resource does not exist, since what someone might like in a resource might not be to the liking of someone else!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻

      @@arinoyume I also hate my Japanese class too. Not that it's hard, I hate the people abd it makes me not want to learn Japanese. Makes me want to give up on the idea or dream I had in my head in returning to Japan. Already wasted 10 years with that idea.

    • @LostSoulAscension
      @LostSoulAscension 9 місяців тому +2

      @@commiebuster2071I hope your sentiments have changed. To overcome yourself, you have to reflect on the fact that maybe you just liked the idea and never actually wanted to learn. For me, when I hear people complain and say they hate a class and textbook, it's an excuse that you're not willing to put in the work and instead blame others for your lack of enthusiasm and progress. It's more often than not in these scenarios that we need to learn to be humble. If you want to learn Japanese, a big part of learning the language is understanding the culture. And a big part of Japanese culture is honesty, discipline, prioritizing world peace, etc. So it might encourage you to realize Japanese culture more by applying Japanese virtues to your frustrations, and learning to set aside whatever pride or limiting beliefs you might have on your reason for not feeling motivated to learn the language. Maybe you tried it ajd realized you're just over it, that's okay too, then you can move on with your life and come back when you feel more prepared to sit down and do the necessary work of memorizing 10,000+ vocabulary words.
