Rick, after watching this video about a month ago, I purchased these balls. I can say that for myself, they have made golfing fun again. Before I was lucky to hit the fairway from the tee maybe once per round. Now I hit the fairway from the tee over 90% of the time. On par 3 shots I am getting onto the green over 90% of the time as well. I just golf for fun (and now its even more fun!) and am not concerned about tournament play. So I am very willing to overlook the "cheating" aspect of playing with this ball, because I really look forward to playing. Before using these balls I would feel frustrated, borderline angry after a round of golf. Now I am coming home relaxed and happy after a round of golf. Has my score improved drastically, no, but the enjoyment factor has improved drastically and I feel that is more important for me.
I feel like playing with these will embed bad habits into your swing even more than they are already (not a jab, you said you have trouble keeping it straight). I'm just getting back into playing after 10 years off and I wouldn't touch these with a 10 ft pole
@@peterwelsh6975 In all honesty, I used to pick my head up which caused me to mis-strike the ball. On tee shots I started turning the logo (or any of the words) towards me and I just stare at them until they disappear. But I hit a decently straight tee shot so I don't need these balls.

Rick - thanks for reviewing this ball! I've been seeing ads for some time on this but just couldn't convince myself to get it UNTIL I saw your (trusted) review. I bought the new 3-piece ball now on Amazon for $49 a dozen and played my 9-hole league yesterday with it. I used only one ball the entire round with ZERO penalties and I shot net 3-under (I'm an 11 HCP in our league). There were 3 shots that would normally have resulted in slices and penalties but this ball saved me. I know they're not cheap but if these bring me more enjoyment then I'm all in.
Deeper dimples create extra drag, more dimples create extra drag, having extra drag on ether side stabilizes the ball, but as you noticed, extra drag means less distance. Very cool ball design.
So I bought some and here’s my opinion. They work like a charm. Although they are illegal, I think these balls could be useful in helping with on course alignment. If you line a ball up and hit it left or right of the target with this ball...it’s probably the alignment. Thanks for the video Rick!

I watched the video and ordered the balls. After 3 full rounds, I am a believer. My swing produces a slice majority of the time no matter what I do off the tee. This ball has not only gone straight but it has lowered my score and helped my confidence. Wish I had this when I began playing in 1982. I am a weekend golfer only and never play in any type of tournament so I don't care if the ball is illegal or not. (they make better balls, better clubs, better tees so I really don't see why this dimple pattern is illegal.) I do see a strange flight pattern every other drive. For me, this ball is a keeper. Thanks for the video.
I really like when you interact with other golfers on the course. Years ago, I treated myself to a round of golf with a pro and it really helped my game. I would like to see you play with three intermediate players. I am sure they would love to play a round with you and I am certain it would be fun to see how they think differently about course management after playing with you sir.
This is my absolute favorite video you’ve done! I love how I watched the distance golf ball first which was shite. Just the surprise and the awe in your reactions is worth the watch
To me, this is perfect for the player who doesn't play much but wants to go out and "enjoy" a round once every few months. It allows him to stay in play even if his swing is not great because he doesn't play enough to work on it. Keeps him out of the woods and water and makes the round more enjoyable. Definitely not for anyone who wants to be more competitive, play a lot and get better
Golf Sidekick just did a very similar video and that's exactly what I said to him. For the golfer who doesn't want to play competitions or isn't fussed about his handicap and just plays with his mates socially, this would be perfect and they would enjoy their golf so much more.
I would like to see this on GC Quad on a range with Shot Tracer. I want to know will it confuse GC Quad if it was meant to slice or draw. Will the ball correct its self and will GC Quad agree
Launch monitors will treat it as a normal 2 piece ball. The algorithms determines the flight based off compression, angle of attack/dynamic loft, clubhead speed, etc NOT real weather conditions and dimple patterns.
jeffery luk what this gent said is true. A launch monitor doesn’t know the dimple pattern of the ball, which is the tech it uses to “self-correct”. If rick takes that slice hack at it on quad it will take the launch angle and angle of attack and impact position and send the tracer off into the woods like the tp5.
Thanks Rick for NOT using simulated ball flight for illegal balls. The nitro video was very confusing for people who don't understand what simulations are and aren't.
3 years later and I am watching this for the first time. I like the concept of helping a less than average golfer still be able to have fun with friends if they only go out occasionally. It’s essentially the e-mtb of the golf world and I wouldn’t have a problem with it. Hell, I’m the the group that could probably use it most lol.
Can you imagine ppls reaction when they start beaming it down the middle for the first time all excited finally believing they've become good, then getting back to the course with their original balls just slicing everything in the woods again.

I found one of these balls my freshman year of high school. I would loose a ball about every four holes due to a slice. I played with that ball for over 36 holes. I can tell you this ball works😂
I still have three Polara balls I bought about 7 or so years ago. The first one I hit had a rather severe slice. Lost distance. Kinda’ forgot about them. But maybe I will try these Ultimates.
The ultimate straight line is probably my favorite aspect of that ball. Typically, two piece balls come together and they draw a line wherever it is set but the true flat area is when you closely inspect the ball to see where they welded the ball halves together and ground it down. You can do this to any ball and it will give you a slightly flatter line. Still important to putt straight though but you might as well find the flatest part of the ball while you can. It's nice to see a brand that took that into consideration!
So for fun, I bought the XD, 50% corrective and they worked great. Slices, 'hold' a line, but don't continue to fade. Kept me in bounds. And can confirm, when using irons, they do fly further. It was fun to play. On terrible swings, the ball didn't fly as far, which is good. Had a few pull, hooks and the ball stayed in play, a regular ball would have been OB or in another fairway. On great swings, the ball GOES!!!
These balls came out around 1977. The band of deeper dimples creates a gyro effect. I used them in a round and both hooks and slices would straighten out about halfway through their flight so you would end up just off the left fairway instead of in the trees. They were completely legal and when the USGA quickly changed the rules and banned them. Polara sued the USGA and got a multi-million settlement. It wasn't too many years later that the USGA lost a massive suit to Ping.
I used these balls back when I had a bad slice, it gave me the confidence to swing better and my regular balls started going straighter. It’s a trading aid more than a ball I would play a competitive round with.
I found one of these on my course today. Surely a subscriber of yours. So I promptly teed it up on my 9th hole, and it was the straightest shot I have hit in a long time.
@@Dacheat A lame joke, since this guy's "bad slice" is well within the range of a lot of golfers' normal shot patterns. That worst slice he did was almost certainly in the nether region between holes, not on the adjacent fairway.
Great review & demonstration. Who knew that there’s such a ball. Wish you could have noted the price. Love your channel. I dig your accent and you are truly funny without trying. I’m getting back to golf after a 8-year hiatus. I quit at12-handicap. I have not swung a club in 8-yrs.
These Balls work - to a degree. I bought some a couple years ago to give out to some of my friends, and kept two sleeves for myself to play with. As long as you line the arrows up, the ball pretty much goes dead straight. The problem is that these balls treat a symptom and not the root cause. They won't fix your awful swing - ie. they don't stop you from pushing or pulling the ball into oblivion, or correct your body position and target line. Also, the ball flight off the tee is strange looking, and an experienced player will call you out on it pretty quickly. Good for a laugh, but shouldn't be a solution for scoring better.
Ever since I watched this video I got a pack of these and use them when I play casually with my friends who are considerably better than me. We aren't competitive, but it was always frustrating to make them wait while I went way off to find my ball. This *almost* completely solved it. Honestly, it made me enjoy golfing with a more varied group of people. I just tell them beforehand and ask if its okay, and everytime it has been. (just don't go smack talk them when they slice one into the woods) When I play by myself or with people more similar in skill level I still use regular balls, as I found I get lazy habits when I play only with these for several outings.
Hi Rick, love your videos and I’m learning a great deal from them. I really enjoy when you make videos like this, “illegal golf balls”, the 750cc driver, super sharp grooves in wedges. I’d love to see more, maybe “hot” or tweaked faces on drivers/irons. Illegal shafts or any other things amateurs(or crafty Pros) gravitate towards to get that extra 10-15 yards over their playing partners. Keep up the great work!
David Heath - Illegal balls, cheap balls, very expensive premium balls; makes no difference. If you suck and are clueless nothing changes. You may have your very best game with an older used ball your found.
I honestly never much cares for Golf, it's always been a sport that I kind of appreciated but never really got in to. Then UA-cam suggests one of your videos to me, and I've been watching them ever since and gaining more and more of an appreciation for it and am actually considering taking it up as a hobby. Thank you for giving me an insight to a new sport, and for providing such awesome content.
Physics, and this video is awesome...I dont even play golf. I Imagine the lack of distance is due to the ball "correcting" itself in flight so these are essentially using the wind to correct the balls rotation in flight which means they appear to be designed with a lower wind resistance on the edges and higher through the middle.
I'm glad you put that last shot in, doesn't really show the full power of the ball without that demonstration with a legal ball. Another great video sir.
Just ordered these from Amazon. I don't have a terrible slice all the time but when I do it is gone forever. My wife just started playing again after 10 years and this will help her so much.
coming from a mad slicing left handed golfer, i actually purchased these polara golf balls years ago. Unfortunate part for me is I still found a way to slice these balls that are suppose to correct slicing problems. Reality is if you are slicing the golf ball look to actually fix your swing, golf ball position, stance, etc., pretty much every other function in the game of golf, and try to fix the issues permanently instead.
A few years ago I won the club championships, so thought I'd do a lap of honour with my mates and we both had a bottle of champagne and went out for 9 holes, it was carnage lol
A week ago i went for 9 holes absolutely wasted. Never played that bad, I also had a new driver, and had no idea how to hit with it. Got maybe 50 meters in length, usually i get 225+. Also i almost got hit 3 times by a golf ball, each of the times i was on the driving spot. Crazy day.
I usually play a soft Bridgestone or Taylormade. Mainly price is the major contributing factor but creature of habit. Ive Always scored best with these over other balls. If I play a more expensive higher end ball, its tends to be a soft Titleist. This year I'm floating around a 7-8 handicap. Now this Polara ball, I have taken a few shots with before. An old co-worker who never plays golf entered in a work golf tournament and brought them. They without question felt heavier and lost distance but without a doubt, they flew straight. Great Videos Rick, I've learned a lot from you.
The large dimples on the edge cause more air resistance that the small ones in the middle so as tha ball spins in the air, the middle is spinning "faster" than the edges and so it always flies pretty straight... I think
The reason for the straight ball falling out of the sky is the relative lack of dimples down that centre line. Since these will always end up rotating parallel to the flight due to the "self correcting" effect the dimple pattern has the backspin on the ball is only going to work as well at keeping the ball in the air as well as (or not too much better than) a ball without dimples would.
they've been around forever. bought a dozen like 15 years ago. they definitely work. only used them on narrow fairways with nasty rough, as they definitely aren't going as far as a brand name ball. also, if you really crank one in a way that would normally produce a huge hook/slice, you still know it, as the ball will start out going like it's hooking or slicing, but it will right itself after a second. you can easily see this during the ball's flight. i used them as a frustration saver. still have a few left after all these years. perhaps my amazon review from forever ago is even still up...
I like how you anticipate recreational players(like me). And no me and my friends would not mind placing the ball all the time. We just play to get away from home🤣
I just received my box of these golf balls, per your review Now,, to be fair,,,, i just started playing golf a couple 3 years ago & only for fun. Slowly getting more into it thanks to you & your videos Thank You sir
AFAIK the US and UK use yards for their courses...and him being from the UK it makes sense. I haven't played in Europe, but I believe most European courses actually do use Meters. I know there are some other countries that use yards for their golf courses even though they use the metric system for everything else. I think it's partially because the PGA tends to use yards in their broadcasts and it's just become a weird one-sport standard in those countries.
You have such an influence in the golf community and have singlehandedly skyrocketed the sales of these golf balls. They are now sold out and sell for roughly $170 a box on eBay. What are your thoughts on this. Would love to see a follow up video.
@@jordankoetters8403 at the time of his video you could get some on Amazon for $30, I bought some, they work and I'm now selling the rest, keeping 3 of them. The prices are going crazy though
I just bought these balls and they work! to a point. They go generally straighter in the direction of that the club face strikes the ball. When I played with these balls for 9 holes I did not lift and line up the ball for the each shot only the tee shot. When I did this I found distance control was hard with the ball going long and short of the yardage I was expecting. In the 2nd 9 I did lift the ball and line up the arrows. When doing this I found iron shots when long and it was a little shorter with the driver. I gave a ball to a friend who hits a big hook. It straightened it a little, I wouldn't say 75% straighter, but it did help maybe 25-30% straighter. In the end it's a good ball and can help, but it's not a miracle ball.
Used them in my first 2 rounds this year and I must say they work. I am a lefty with a baseball swing usually lose 6-8 balls per round. Played 36 holes with just 2 balls being lost.

I dont know how many times i cleared my throat during the desk scene. lmao love you rick
I used these balls back when I had a bad slice, it gave me the confidence to swing better and my regular balls started going straighter. It’s a trading aid more than a ball I would play a competitive round with.
That youtube algorithm find videos I didn't expected to interest me.
must be working, i never played golf but watched all 20mins
It's scary that the UA-cam algorithms know is better than we ourselves do
agreed but isn't this so much better then the other shit we get?
I literally played this course a day before you posted this... gutted we didn't cross paths I've been following your stuff for ages. Keep it up Rick!
Never played golf in my life, never watched a golf video. UA-cam thought I should watch this, here I am and it's interesting.
I found one of these on my course today. Surely a subscriber of yours. So I promptly teed it up on my 9th hole, and it was the straightest shot I have hit in a long time.
Rick is the kind of guy who marks the ball location when illegally moving the ball. Love it!
And someone on the neighbouring fairway is being barraged with TP5s, wondering what the hell is happening.
LMAO
He only sliced one... bit short of a "barrage"
Shooting one ball and then talking to the camera for two minutes before the next... bit short of a "barrage"
@@Dacheat A lame joke, since this guy's "bad slice" is well within the range of a lot of golfers' normal shot patterns. That worst slice he did was almost certainly in the nether region between holes, not on the adjacent fairway.
This would save me about a dozen balls a month.... But I'd get crap from my friends..... Whatever I can afford to buy then drinks now.

I just made my biggest amazon purchase.....ever. thanks Rick! 😎
Good for a laugh, but shouldn't be a solution for scoring better.
love the voice in the studio. you sound like a drunk Adam Sandler 😂

For goodness' sake gargle a little lemon water - get rid of that phlegm.
(just don't go smack talk them when they slice one into the woods)
When I play by myself or with people more similar in skill level I still use regular balls, as I found I get lazy habits when I play only with these for several outings.
This was helpful thank yE!
You description above is my exact situation.
Oh shit I might be able to play a round of golf below 900 over par

David Heath how do you swing a club over 900 times and not get better?
David Heath - Illegal balls, cheap balls, very expensive premium balls; makes no difference. If you suck and are clueless nothing changes. You may have your very best game with an older used ball your found.

But Rick, I always manage to return with more balls than when I started when I hunt for my balls!
You just made Polara a lot of money Rick.
Lol just ordered 2 boxes

He is English so i would think he would have to drink 9 pints to notice a difference.
Crazy day.
been thinking about subscribing for a little while now. you sold it when you bit the golf ball, chuckled and said it's not a soft ball hahaha
Imagine combining the Ultimate Straight's dimple pattern with the Titleist Pro V1's hybrid core.
Well the dimples on the side since there are more there is more drag so it would maybe go a little farther but not much farther
The large dimples on the edge cause more air resistance that the small ones in the middle so as tha ball spins in the air, the middle is spinning "faster" than the edges and so it always flies pretty straight... I think
Freaking engineers
“It’s the dimples!”
Later
“I’m not quite sure what it is but it moves weird”
The reason for the straight ball falling out of the sky is the relative lack of dimples down that centre line. Since these will always end up rotating parallel to the flight due to the "self correcting" effect the dimple pattern has the backspin on the ball is only going to work as well at keeping the ball in the air as well as (or not too much better than) a ball without dimples would.
Great swing Rick and thanks for the test .
Great piece of aero-dynamic engineering. Would love to understand how it works....
Where do I buy do use golf balls
“It’s a softer golf ball”

“That’s not soft” 💀💀
That is crazy. I didn’t expect those results at all! 🤙🏻
1:43 he straight up chews on the golf ball 😂
they've been around forever. bought a dozen like 15 years ago. they definitely work. only used them on narrow fairways with nasty rough, as they definitely aren't going as far as a brand name ball. also, if you really crank one in a way that would normally produce a huge hook/slice, you still know it, as the ball will start out going like it's hooking or slicing, but it will right itself after a second. you can easily see this during the ball's flight. i used them as a frustration saver. still have a few left after all these years. perhaps my amazon review from forever ago is even still up...
Perfect ball for a scramble.
How did GC Quad cope with these balls? Can it track their flight accurately?
I think trackman would be best for something like this GC m Quad infers what the ball would do not what it actually does.

6:15 I wasn’t expecting someone with that accent to measure with yards instead of meters
In Ireland I am a member in two clubs and one uses metres and the other uses yards

Ah yes, the "Bite Test" to determine a golf ball's softness.
