    As someone who practices ceremonies of my Native ancestors of Turtle Island, I truly appreciate that you made it a point to share that you "Give Thanks" to the fish you catch and to their tribe. I don't see or hear that too often in YT videos. This is an important aspect of living off the land and showing appreciation for the life that was sacrificed to sustain our own...plants included. Love your channel, love you and your Mom! Keep on showin' the world that this kind of living isn't just for one set of people! LOVE Y'ALL!

    I am so glad you talked about how different cultures food choices are important.
    Veganism does not work if you have no choice for vegan foods.
    People do not understand what it takes to survive the winters in Alaska nor the relationship the Inuit and all indigenous people have with the animal nations. The resoect for the gift that is given from the animal nation.
    Keep sharing🙆💞

    I love this! And I am with you on what you eat. But I have a question for the people who would judge you eating seafood. If vegetarianism or veganism is about not eating living things, aren't plants living things? I understand animal cruelty, that makes sense, no one wants to harm an animal in anyway just to consume them, they don't even taste good if they were treated in a cruel way or pumped with hormone. But if it's about living things, plants are also living and have purpose in our ecosystem. Plants also need to be preserved and cultivated. No one should truly be judging anyone for eating what they want so long as they do it mindfully and in a more preserving, non-cruel way. You're good, Loui! Eat whatever you want, even if it's a burger. It's your body and your body is no one's business but yours. Same goes for everyone else!

    • @anarchotrashrat
      @anarchotrashrat 3 роки тому

      I personally don't judge those who eat meat or hunt/fish, and I agree people should do what they want with their bodies. But Veganism isn't about 'not eating living things' otherwise we would have nothing to eat. Its about the welfare of sentient beings, and plants are not sentient.

    • @talkamarachi
      @talkamarachi 3 роки тому +4

      @@anarchotrashrat I'm well versed on the meaning of the terms Vegan and Vegetarian. I also know that some who are vegan do it for their individual reasons which don't include the sentientity of animals. Some people who are vegan and vegetarian eat that way for solely digestive/dietary/health reasons. Sadly, I don't think they care much of the sentientity of animals. Sadly. My point really is to respect everyone's choice in what they ingest into their bodies and their individuals reason for doing so (which are never the same for everyone). I do understand where you're coming from and appreciate your response.

    William on his back, living his best life: pure gold. The conversation at the picnic table: EVERYTHING. My favorite mom and daughter duo. Thank you! The paradigm of rushing to get things accomplished is over. We have all seen that life is too short to rush, to not take time to smell the roses (or eat the salmon berries!), to not live in and enjoy the present moment.

    I’m vegan here, and I don’t think you really should have to explain yourself to anyone for the choices you make. If you’re doing what is right in your conscious that is enough. Usually the vegans that are up in arms getting on you about eating fish as a high moral standard don’t care about other human lives. I won’t get into that here because they think it’s a political statement where in reality it’s about other lives

    Lived in Alaska for over twenty five years and yes we always share our fish or game that we get Especially with the elders or people who didn’t have the means or abilities to get out and get it and that was one of the biggest reasons i loved the village life being around the native people how they share and how much they was willing to share the culture with me !

    My husband and I were on a road trip today and we had a wonderful conversation about "JUDGEMENT". We are so judgemental as human beings and people need to check themselves. There is so much, that all of us need to reconcile within ourselves but we would rather judge the next person, about ANY and EVERYTHING!!!!! How self absorbed one has to be, to believe their way is the correct or only way, a BILLION+ people on Earth should live their lives!!! Walk in Love people 💜 Starting with yourself first.........
    So enjoy your fish Louie and whatever else YOU choose to consume in YOUR body!!!!! Sending you and your Mom, lots of love and light!!!! 💜💫

My husband and I love watch'in and love ya'll's enthusiasm. We are newly subscribe. You guy's are sooo bless to have so many different variteties of berries on your property. I thank God for my food...!!..lol Awesome job with the dutchoven I have 2. Open fire cook'in is awesome... when we camped when we were younger I only took 1 pan to fry eggs in the rest of our food I cooked in the coals ...like baked potatoes ... just cut them in half put a pat of butter and season'in on them , double wrap in aluminum foil and nestle in the coal on the edge of the fire . canned beans/corn I opened the can leave lid attached and nestle the can in the coals about an inch deep in the coals use pot holder to grab the lid and remove when heated. where there is a will , there is a way.

    Make sure you get a net. Watch some videos on people settling in Alaska and how they set out a net. You can put it out in the morning. hang out and enjoy nature all day and come back and pull in your fish. Set it up over the campfire and smoke it and save it so it does not have to be refrigerated. takes a good six hours to smoke small thin pieces and 12 for larger pieces. you can actually do this with all your meat until you have a way to keep it. Oh, and you need to build an enclosure around the smoker so you can use downed tree limbs to do that just build a teepee around it.
    you are going to love the dutch oven for cooking on fire and mannnnnnnnn those other people are loudddddddddddddd. Find an off-grid cookbook for cooking on the fire.
    Even though I am only in the RV 4-6 months a year I make the most of it and do as much as I can without power. Love love love cooking on the fire. Stuffed peppers with seasoned rice are my favorite to cook on the campfire but a big thing of beef stew in the dutch oven is amazing.

What you will absolutely love is that Alaskans share their food. When it doesn't fit in your freezer, you pass it along to a pal. What I would do right now for some fresh halibut! *sigh*

      Ooo, this would be a great plan B. A partially underground home would help with insulation too: the thermal mass of all that earth would help regulate temperatures in the extremes of summer and winter. That steep slope even gives a head start for building!
