HOW TO BUY LAND IN ALASKA| Everything I Know Off The Top Of My Head & Why We Did It

  • We chose South East Alaska for several reasons. The first being climate change. We wanted a place where us and future generations of our family wouldn't ever have to worry about water scarcity. I grew up with the increase in number of wildfires on the West coast and a place where that is not a main problem was also a big deal for us. Secondly, we were looking for a place that didn't have many restrictions on the type of houses we want to build. We came full circle and started the process off thinking we would do treehouses and then we thought maybe A frames aaaaaand then maybe just a simple lean-to. Now we are sure we want to build treehouses and are right back where we started. Not all places in the US are zoned to be able to do that as your primary structures. And lastly we really just like the culture up here out of all the places we've been in the USA. We love that this is the lasting frontier that there are soo many resources up here and the people are FREAKING NICE. Anyways those are some of the boxes we had to check to really settle and I'm glad we were able to find it!
    I hope this helps you in your journey to buy land if that's what you dream of! This is by no means all the information, but maybe it'll get you started down the rabbit hole!

    Loui, this was a very informative video for those looking to buy land in Alaska and just for those of us following you. You and your mom are definitely hard workers to fix up your land, we’ve bought several pieces of land (actually the first piece we bought my husband asked where were we going to put our house and be able to get to it, lol) and to see the changes made from raw to improved land is so satisfying. So proud and happy for you guys

    Adventure time Loui, good on you ladies! I look forward to watching you build. I built our house from local logs so can imagine how you can utilize local materials. I liked your reasoning to go north! Keep your spirits high, the ideas flowing and harvest locally what nature provides. You might look at the books written by Sigrid Olsen “Listening Point” and Aldo Leopoldo “A Sand County Almanac” both authors talk about land ethics and building. P.S. have fun!

    things will come around an get better for you both /you just have to talk with the right person/a new friend-that will help on clearing/maybe pay a contractor with a bull-dozer to clear an area out an a temperary driveway /they can push the trees down an push the dead trees over an out of the way/then decide what is next/clear out an acre area/thanks much

    • @AdventureTimeLoui
      @AdventureTimeLoui  3 роки тому +3

      Yes! We are awaiting our good old contractor to come back to the island to help us out with stuff. We are wary of having someone who doesn’t know slopes on inclines building our driveway. So we are waiting for the contractor who has done pretty much every driveway on the island to do it!

    Hey Loui, after watching your video, I showed my boyfriend (Zane) a few videos highlighting climate change predictions on maps. I've been discussing a few areas in Southern Alaska with him since then. As this summer is fairly close to completion and our family business (a legal mj farm and edibles production company) is taking up a ton of our time, I won't be able to look into property properly until next year. My thought is, next year, around late spring to early/mid-summer, we're going to need someone to scout property for us there in your neck of the woods. As I know that some UA-camrs are willing to do that on a for-hire basis, I immediately thought that I should ask if you and your mom are interested. Would you be interested?

    It just occurred to me- because of the steep pitch of your land, have you considered digging into the earth, shoring up and then coating with clay or whatever....I'm thinking about heating and cooling. It could be just a portion of your dwelling...? I guess I don't imagine you being able to build anything entirely by yourselves given that your land is raw and the kind of labor needed for digging out etc...is cheap.
