  • In-depth walkthrough of the BMW MKIII Navigation system available as an option on the 2001 BMW 7 Series, 2001-2002 BMW 5 & 3 Series' and the BMW X5 for those model years. The MKIV Nav computer replaced the MKIII for 2003 model years and was available on the E46 until the chassis was replaced in favour of BMW's iDrive system.
    MKI through IV offer similar menu layouts and functionality, but this video specifically demonstrates the user interface and features of the MKIII system on a widescreen display. The telephone functions are disabled in this video as the phone unit has been removed from the vehicle.

    Awesome video, I love seeing older car tech so in depth like this. It's like a glimpse into the past. Keep it up!

      Thanks! We'll try our best to find some more older systems and review them too. The first gen Comand Navigation from Mercedes is one on our list.

    This has been very helpful, this is the same system in the R50/R52/R53 MINI. Bizarrely my latest MINI has this but I've never used it before . The manual says absolutely nothing so this is a godsend👍

    Great video! Wanting to get the navigation working in my e46 just for fun, need to get a cd first though. Now i kinda want to look at the junkyard for an MK4

      I never came across a Mk4 out my way, but then again I live(d) in an area where a local enthusiast would buy up all the scrap BMWs before they'd make it to a wrecker, so I wouldn't have found one in the wild.

    the aux Vent mode is for cars that have the Webasto heater fitted. You set the time and the webasto heater turns on and sends warm air in to the cabin. NOT used for the summer just winter use.

    Phenomenal tech for its day.......

      I agree! By today's standards it's very outdated, but when you think that in 2001 cell phones didn't have cameras, VHS was still dominant, and the Pentium 4 was THE computer core everyone wanted, this navigation system seems pretty advanced. Even today I find it's functional and useful, and the MkIV is way better. When we did the M3 E46 Tour I spent some time after playing with it and it feels modern.

    How do you get color set to bring up 4 colors? Actually 8 colors? I used to have 4 day and 4 night colors and I miss them! It had a red, an orange, a blue, a green with night versions of each. When I upgraded to v32 it has only 2 colors now! Or did I just go through a matrix because noone else has 4 now but I swear mine used to have 2 rows of 4 colors. Any ideas?

    I own a bmw x5 e53 2004 i have the nav system with voice comend and bluetooth but cant find the way to make them work plus i dnt have any idea abt the tree lights on the top right of the navigation what are they for? And my the centre red light is always on as urs ? Any help plsss

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  6 років тому

      Hey there, if the nav computer is original BMW equipment it should work, was that the way it came when you bought it? The lights on the top of the eject button are for the BMW StarTac phone system. Red means there's no phone connected, Yellow would be no signal, and Green would be if the phone is in use. Having a red light just means the phone has been disconnected from the system, so if it's Bluetooth it might be because there's no phone paired.

    Lololol that is what memo does! Ever since I purchased my 530i I would hear chime and I had noticed as time moved on (no pun intended) I've noticed every 00:59 of the hour I get a chime. I just assumed it was something the dealership had set or at the Bimmer factory. Lol, so I thought "Memo" was some type of way to jot down a short and quick note. Yes I did purchase the 2015 maps back in 2015 for my MKlll. I've heard there is a way to get updated MKlll map updates from a Google search.

      Should be the most up-to-date for the Mark 3 CD system. I believe the DVD based one has a number of versions above whatever the max is for MKIII.

    I just bought an x5 with this screen and I got two aux ports one for in one for out yet I don’t know how to select aux on the radio can someone help?

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  3 роки тому

      It's possible it wasn't factory to have aux, perhaps someone replaced the CD changer with the aux equipment. I'd try using the CD mode to see if that works.

    This looks oddly familiar was the same system used in a Range Rover

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  17 днів тому +1

      Yes it was! BMW owned Land Rover during the 90s and used the same parts for some of the LR models and the X5.

    Can anyone help I have the exact same one on my 325ci but none of the buttons on the side work the only ones that do are menus and the volume knob does anyone know how to fix this?? I just need to get fm radio

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  3 роки тому

      It's possible the buttons themselves are broken, meaning you might have to replace the entire unit.

    Just got a 2002 bmw x5 when I put the t.v on it comes up like someone pulled the Ariel out of the back of a t.v all fuzzy I have been told the t.v won't work because it all changed to digital an the t.v is analogue

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  5 років тому +1

      That's likely the case! I believe the Japanese models still work in Japan. Unfortunately the TV module wasn't something offered here in Canada, so I haven't had any experience with it.

    Where can I get a replacement for this unit?

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  Місяць тому

      Your best bet would be eBay, unless you're lucky and find a local part recycler who specializes in these vehicles. I was lucky myself, someone in the town over was a big E38 enthusiast and had a garage full of parts, and one of the largest E38 part collectors is in the Greater Toronto Area here in Ontario.

    Can this fit in the E38?

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  3 роки тому

      Absolutely, this was an E38 we used for the video. Screen is pretty much the same one used in the E46 3 Series, E39 5 Series, and E53 X5.
