I only started Black Templars a few months ago. Have rattled through 2000 points of them since, but was holding off painting Helbrecht until I had to. Started him last night… 🙏🏻🥴
I just painted my helbretch on the weekend to finish up my 1500 point army Then went to the store and got grimaldus, dreadnought and emperors champion to finish it up Good luck
Keep in mind that the sword brethren plus one damage applies to helbrecht as well! His sweep goes to 12 attacks dmg 2 and strike is dmg 4 which is just insane. Absolutely insane beatstick but he's not survivable so I reccomend an impulsor.
i love this channel, specifically because he uses contrast paints. its nice to get a little reminder that using methods that most people might consider cheating isnt actually cheating - its a tool and a skill to use properly, and theres nothing wrong with doing things easier, if youre a good enough painter you can make anything look good
Dude!!!! My man!!!! I come in and out of the hobby, and often what pulls me back is one of your videos being suggested. It's been at least 4 weeks since I watched you, and I am absolutely astonished at the progress you've made in painting. Congratulations man! Keep it up!
Helbrecht looks absolutely fantastic! Maybe it’s because this video is focusing on just one model, but I feel like this video taught me a lot more about painting than pretty much any other video. Thanks Jay!
That armor looks so good. I feel like the combi melta in front creates a really good focal point for the finished model, almost like a placard on the front of a diorama.
I challenge jay to paint twenty cadian shock troops, a leman russ, a field ordinance battery, and a commissar, all painted as different regiments, in 48 hours. yes this is a dumb idea, I am well aware. Edit: by painted as different regiments, I meant like, doing the Cadian shock troops as one thing, all twenty of them, the leman russ as another, that sorta idea.
love watching your paint schemes come together. not gunna lie as i watch you paint im ALWAYS like "nah this ones gunna be a dud" then you dab that last drop of paint and im like "omg so cool" every dang time lol
Im going to look a little dumb when I say didn't realize how much "gold color" goes into Helbrecht, but I still need to say that I think you did a wonderful job painting him up, and also customizing/kit-bashing him, and his base, up. Quite a wonderful focal piece!
Fantastic looking model, and definitely some great nmm work! Tho personally i think the armour would benefit from a metalic dry brushing to give it some shine
15:18 - Sigismund was not the Primarch he was the original High Marshal aka Chapter Master. Their Primarch is Rogal Dorn, them being a successor chapter of the Imperial Fist.
Yeah during the Heresy Sigismund was just a bog standard Space Marine captain, senior one among the Imperial Fists sure but no different from any of the other battle brothers apart from rank and gear he had access.
@@SampoPaalanen He wasn't just a bog standard space marine captain. He was the captain of the 1st company, literally Dorn's right hand. The Fist equivalent of Kharn, Typhon, Eidolon etc. He was also arguably the best space marine duelist in history. Hence why Malcador gifted him the Black Blade on behalf of the Emperor. Sigismund was a monster.
@@LordKingKamiGuru "apart from rank and gear" he did not have any special enhancements or implants, he's extremely talented for sure, but there was nothing about his implants that differed from your average battle brother, at least intentionally so, unless it was retconned he got his position from talent and training not from implants only first captains were given. That was my point there.
This ork on the base of Helbrecht was the 1st thing I saw on the new mini. Being an ork (Blood Axes) player, I made it a goal to have him killed as soon as someone put him on the table. That time came last week, as I went against Black Templars for the 1st time in the 20 years that I play Warhammer (I kid you not). My opponent brought him inside a unit of sword brethren and another unit (I don't remember what it was) with Grimaldus in it as an added bonus. The outcome was Helbrecht getting butchered by my Ghaz (proxied by a Gorgutz model from the DoW series), and Grimaldus and his unit ended up getting 68 wounds in their face. Killed both in the 2nd (WAAAGH!) round, and it felt good!
Great model Jay, but it almost looks like Helbrecht joined the imperial fists for an Easter celebration. Would push the contrast of the NMM more. If you squint your eyes he looks more pastel-y and wash out compared to the high contrast shine of metal. Could wash the gold black, brown, or dark green or go in with your brush and deepen some of the shadows. Try to pull back on the amount of high lights you use, a little goes a long way when dealing with the high contrast nature of metal.
I really like the ensemble of this mini that you have created, but i cant keep my head from thinking about the deathwing when i see this nnm gold. Dont get me wrong it looks really good, but i think a deathwing army with this recipe would look really stellar!
Why isn't the sword hilt purple? This is the theme of Jay's black templars. And apparently the hot wax falling on the bald head is something like a test of Rogal Dorn’s glove of pain xD
I love your work. But what the warp is that triumph of st. Katherine comment? I really can't see how you'd shrink the base without losing half the retinue.
Good Morning Sir! I love your channel! I am new to painting miniatures and have gotten so much helpful advice from you. I am working on a Warhammer Brutalis Dreadnought and am painting it with Blood Angel Chapter colors. I would like your advice for a good color to do edge highlights for scarlet red. Thank you for your time sir :)
I think I would have gone for a more ghostly pale look on the servitors, rather than the same tone as helbrecht’s skin. Although if I attempted it, it would have looked worse regardless.
I noticed that the old model you painted has a very nice metallic shine to the armor that's missing from the new model you painted. The new paint scheme looks kind of flat in comparison. I like the more vibrant gold color much more however. The old model was more of a bronze color.
I'd love to know what War Hammer candles are made of their enemies I guess but there must be some special ingredients as those things cont go out once lit !. And I'm sure someone has thought about this before me
Hey!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You said my Tamiya basic putty but you are using a bottle brush???? Is there something you want to tell us Jay??? Is this instead of the thick glue hack ???????? People want to know
A special thanks to Cobalt Keep for helping us continue to create great videos! www.cobaltkeep.com/ Coupon Code: EOB10 for 10% off the Display Cases!
I got these cases after seeing them here (used the code) and they are great! Really solid bases and cases from Cobalt Keep!
How the melee now works: Helbrecht's big base is actually a buff
Ah Finally! I've been waiting ages to see you paint a Black Templar☺
The base you built looks like a game of Twister gone horribly wrong. I love it.
Where is the day count skitarii comment? What day are we at! :')
He died, but told me you should inherit his duty on this chat 😢
@@Rosemaryn-pg8rq oh no... Okey let me see
Day 572 year 40k asking Jay to paint a skitarii for the holy machine god!
Sounds realistic
I think its day 25 (or 26)

That's probably one of the best models I've seen you paint on this channel so really well done 👍
Keep in mind that the sword brethren plus one damage applies to helbrecht as well! His sweep goes to 12 attacks dmg 2 and strike is dmg 4 which is just insane. Absolutely insane beatstick but he's not survivable so I reccomend an impulsor.
Dude that is one of the coolest paintjobs and kitbashes I've seen. That's awesome

yeah i really like their look and hate how some channels make it look like you could never finish an army without an airbrush
The smoothness of the pants, orc skin, armor is incredible!!!
...it even has a watermark
Love the paint job, and the inspiration for it. I think you NAILED it.
The NMM is excellent
I think the BTs are the new poster boys for Dorn and thats why they keep getting better looking models
Wow! All I can say is WOW! this is one of the best models and paint work i have ever seen on UA-cam. Really well done. 😊

Always love the painting and attitude, always put your videos on when I want to get my marines looking decent , nice inspiration
Helbrecht looks absolutely fantastic!

Outstanding work. Base looks amazing
You should kitbash a Sigismund model and put him on a knight base and then proxy him as a melee knight
Every bit of that project turned out fantastically. Nice work!
J you got a really strong channel , your a great presenter and that's one hell of a paint job , should be very proud dude it looks EPIC ! .
I love that armour, it looks like a painting or tapestry, something you'd find hanging on the walls of a templar ship.
Very nice, been thinking about trying the cards myself.. too many projects and have analysis paralysis on what to paint them
This came out really well. I like the color card idea.

Well I think you sold me, your love for the Templars sold me on wanting to build and paint them
Absolutely beautiful work

Fantastic looking model, and definitely some great nmm work! Tho personally i think the armour would benefit from a metalic dry brushing to give it some shine
Incredible paint job! Thank you for a fantastic, entertaining video as always! 🤟😀
The blue orks, or Blorks for short, look great. Helbrecht looks awesome atop a pile of Blorks!
now you got to paint grimaldus and his servitor guys
Dude that’s you golden deamon winning model.
Absolutely fantastic
You Should Really Paint A Angry Marine for us, even a kitbash for a Minotaurs Marine would be awesome.
No magenta on the sword handle? Ole brekkie looks baller!! Love that absurd 60 mil base!! All about that base!! Thanks gents!! Fantastic as always!!!
great paint job it's beautiful
Very cool, my man. Great job 👍🏻
Looks rad. Nice job.
This looks dope. Surprisingly a delight
You should do a Stargrave crew as a little palate cleanser! A captain, a first mate, and 8 troopers, all from whatever manufacturers you want!
Dog, that cloak/armor combo is fucking dope. The green black with the matte creamy gold rocks.
15:18 - Sigismund was not the Primarch he was the original High Marshal aka Chapter Master. Their Primarch is Rogal Dorn, them being a successor chapter of the Imperial Fist.
He was Dorm's original whipping boy, and the chapter has flagellated ever since

Yet another masterpiece by Jay 🤩
Even though you used the cube colors the results turned out very Zorn Palette like. A great John Blanche nod.

My man looks GASSED!!! Looks so Good!!!
Turned out lovely!
Awesome work mate!
I think your old version of his armor looked really cool
nice, you gave that figure life with that palette
I gotta say best helbrecht I've seen congrats
I love the big brushs in the thumbnails please get progressively bigger brushs with more and more globs of paint on them lolol

The timing on this is scary. I JUST got my Helbrecht yesterday. I wanted to see what he'd look like with the Lion's hooded head.

Duuuude, NMM? Jay can do everything!
Putting 3d printed flames on top of your dropper bottles would be high-larryous.
Well done!!
I just saw the picture an shouted HELL YEAH!!!!!
It fiiiine lol. Great paintjob jay!
@13:27 I did NOT hear the word 'buccaneer' at first, and nearly spat out my drink.
What did you do to get your black armour on your death troopers? It looks incredible!
Helbrecht doesn't do mortal wounds on the charge, he does them at the beginning of each players Fight phase.
What brushes do you use? I’ve been trying to find a damn decent brush and I can’t seem to have any luck. 7:32 time stamp for reference!
Wow. Incredible!
Your rant about base sizes has me nodding along like the Lord Solar doesn’t have basically the statline of a space marine captain but on an 80mm base
Baseheads unite! Btw Dorn was the primarch and Sigismund the first marshal.
Come on, the Triumph base is awesome!

As it's a power sword, wouldn't the servitor cleaning the sword get shocked ? 😂
Jay did the chapter master but now it's episode 32 of asking for black Templar aggressors!!!!!
Big bases is a massive buff
So are you going to paint up the squad of sword brethren that go with him with the same pallet?
It's okay, I have a Mephiston and Commander Dante I haven't painted yet. I wanna get better at NNM first before I paint them.
The combi-melta looks like the Pulse Rifle from Aliens.
Ironically, I want the Wargames exclusive one now too. Ugh, *walks to the dungeon to where my wallet is tied up.
I prefer the helmet myself. Great job ❤
