The fact that their sets come in FULL pans while not including a white makes them such an attractive buy. And they're priced so cheaply, they're closer in price to student paints here! Thanks so much for the awesome review

The russian green (pg8) is something otherworldly. Such a beautiful colour. I have 25+ years old St.Petersburg watercolor paint set (past version of White Night's) and that green is amazing and perform well at light fastness. Actually on 40+ years old school grade watercolor set from Soviet times visually the same pg8 green (I believe it is the same pigment) still have that earthy, fully green properties. And yes, for those who wonders - those old russian color sets are very good at revetting and everything. As good as brand new White Nights. About that Emerald green. Looks like fluke. In my sets that is strong and rich and doesn't have revetting problems.
Thank you for this review. I think you are the first one to give this brand the credit it deserves. Living in Romania the other brands are hard to obtain. I did buy some Winsor and Newton and I was under the impression the quality is comparable. So thanks for confirming that to me.
I have such a limited selection that it's hard to say overall about the brand, but from this selection, I'd say they're very comparable. I'll run some lightfastness tests which will take a while, but I'll of course share them when the time comes. I'm glad that I was able to try them out, because I admit from what I had heard from others, I wasn't super excited to try them out. Im glad I was wrong :)
They really are pretty good paints, especially when you consider the price Definitely a good buy,. I have 45 of their colors now, and I love them. Some are not *that* great, but then again, *every* brand had a couple of shades where you ask yourself what they were thinking when they made those. The Raw Sienna is changed to a single pigment color now, btw. I just checked mine that I purchsed a couple of months ago, and it is only P Brown 7 and it is lovely.
For the pans where the color is harder to pick up, you may want to "scrub" the top layer off the pan color. Because for me when this issue happened it ended up being that there was paper residue from the packaging that was creating a flim/barrier on the paint pan. After I scrubbed the initial layer off on the problematic pans, the colors were really pigmented and easy to pick up.
@@InLiquidColor One question is there a Green color from White Nights that other brands have the same values but its more lightfast then 2 stars?? Color is simply beautiful and it would mean alot to me find out who makes similar color ????Thank you upfront!
@@InLiquidColor Oh thank you very much i was doubtful to take the color because of 2 stars not 3 max but now i will take it..Thank you again very much all the best to you and superb job with the reviews i watch your channel for months you are so perfectionist and such a amazing artist its a real pleasure and honor watching your videos...Cheers
I have Raw Sienna (White Nights) - bought not a long time ago, and it is made of PBr7 and it´s beautiful. Their Green is gorgeous, I use it for mixing other greens. PY 150 yelow is according to me something very interesting. I like their colours. Thank you very much for your videos full of colours.
I only have two sets of professional watercolor, White Nights and Paul Rubens. I have watched this video many times and learn something new every time. Very informative.
I just got mine on sale for 59.99 for 36 shipped from Utrecht's and I swatched them and they are so beautiful and vibrant. I have just started to watercolor and I have just fallen in love with this medium and I enjoy your videos a lot.
You can also buy them open stock and in sets from the St. Petersburg UK site. The prices are in GBP but they charge the current conversion and shipping isn’t bad at all considering it’s coming from overseas!
At less than $2 per pan on Jackson’s, they are well worth checking out! Even if you end up not liking a few color choices, they are a great value. Currently Amazon has a small set of 12 for less than $15 which I am going to purchase today!
Great video. I have been using these paints for a couple of years now, just the 12 color set, and have been very satisfied with them and with the way they mix. They last a long time as well. One thing I wanted to mention is that I noticed that at the end of your peacock painting, you used Dr. PH Martin's white. Instead of gouache white, I have started using a white I get from a block of Derwent's Inktense white, which is very opaque, easy to use since it comes as a block and best of all, once it dries, it is permanent and you can paint over it with a colored glaze and it won't pick up. I learned this from Lisa from Lachri. I have been working on a painting of a model whom I am depicting as Hera (the goddess whose symbol is the peacock) and have finished it except for the peacock, so now I am inspired to finish the peacock!
I have the full set of the white nights and what's strange is for me the emerald green was actually one of the most pigmented colors in my set. Could have been a manufacturing error?
I'm not sure but I guess of the physical color ? I mean like yellow is gonna be transparent compared to red which will be opaque, I bought the set but still didnt try it out. I realized the bottom of the box there are the color names next to them ( stars) and ( full, empty and half full) box which explain if they are opaque or transparent and how lightfastness they are.
I got the 24 pan set 2 years ago, when I started getting serious about watercolor. I really like them and they were very inexpensive (I live in Germany). They are a little more expensive now, but still very affordable (when compared to other artists' quality paints --- Schmincke and Lucas, for instance). I've ordered some Daniel Smith and am anxiously awaiting their arrival. I think you end up finding colors that you love (regardless of brand) and mixing and matching.
I just bought the Yarka 36 pan, I used to be a Windsor & newton snob... but now I'll print never use my old pans again. These paints are the most blendable I've ever used!
I bought this 24 color set when travelling Russia for something like 12 bucks. They were so good, so when I came back to the UK I ordered another 24 set from amazon.co.uk as a present for a friend for something like 30 quid. Nothing can beat them in terms of value for money if you live in Europe.
Two things I've learned about this paint: 1. It needs to be used on textured paper. I tried to do a dog portrait commission on Arches hot press paper, and the results were gritty and disappointing. My second try on Arches cold press was dramatically better. 2. Several colors are super prone to fading. The reason that gorgeous deep green is so unusual is because the pigment PG8 will fade quickly when exposed to sunlight, and so other companies avoid it. This is also true for the violet, which contains PV3, which is also highly toxic. I enjoy using this paint, but I will be extra careful to not use it for commissions in the future, and will keep my beverages far from my painting table.
Yay full painting with reviews! I'm curious about your thoughts on the water brushes. This peacock turned out so gorgeous and what a great value for those paints!
These were the first watercolors I ever bought for myself. I still really love them, especially what they offer in terms of a chance to start out using artist grade pigments at a student grade price, so I'm happy to see you enjoyed working with them and created such a gorgeous piece using these paints. And Blick does have them open stock! My favorite color from them is Titian red, very similar hue to DS quin sienna but single pigment. :) I also thought the PB60 came off weak when I was first using it, but after experimenting with stronger versions I ended up appreciating that glazing quality and ability to build up rich color slowly. I do think they fit in that Sennelier and W&N realm of more "gentle" watercolors.
Thanks Caitlin! I see Blick has the Yarka for a bit of a steeper price, although I have to admit the transparent pans really bother me for some reason, though I'm not sure why! Good to know they're around though :) I agree that they're more gentle, but they all seem to glaze very well, as do the others you mentioned, so it'll be fun getting to know them.
Currently (aug 2019) on blicks website the 36 set is cheaper than the 24 set! It was less than 65 dollars...Plus free shipping I ordered mine at midnight on Friday and I got them today ( Monday ) at 10am. I’m so excited to use these my first set of watercolors was 10 w&n cotman tubes. I like them but as a beginner with the medium I purchased this pan set as I figured owning g a pan set would allow me to be more spontaneous with my art. After months of research I went for white nights as it’s the most affordable artist grade water color on the market that seems well liked across many different artists with a range of styles and subjects that they like to paint.
I bought the 36 set of white nights at my local art store and here are my experiences with them so far. -they're pigmented.obviously -The paints are sticky and the pigments stick to my fingers when switching the pans. -The cobalt blue and Mars brown both got stuck on the wrapper and lost some of it on there so I just used that to make swatches. Othercthan that they're great.
I’m sure it’s in one of your videos and I’m watching all the old ones from before I found your channel. Is this binder filled with trading card pages to old your swatches?
Great review and lovely peacock! These were my first ever professional paints I bought a set of 24 about 5 years ago and then added a lot of other missing colours, from the same eBay seller that you purchased from :) My phthalo green is very strong, and my raw sienna is only pbr7. My Prussian blue is hard as a rock though! Other than that all my 36+ colours are wonderful to use, I'm glad you are happy with yours too :). I've seen a lot of mediocre reviews of these but there are a ton of wonderful Russian artists on Instagram who all use them and their art is just stunning!
I love the Arteza watercolour brushes because the colour does not get sucked back into the reservoir like it does in some water brushes such as Pentel.
A thorough review as always :) and your peacock painting is stunning! So glad you liked the paints, they are the ones I use as well, and I enjoy them very much.
that’s weird, my White Nights raw sienna is PBr7 only 🤔 and my emerald green picks up really easily, or I’m just used to something else, haha I’m so happy you finally tried them out and liked them!! I need to get some of the quinacridone colours some time soon, I’m in need of some cool reds and the ones you got are on my list :D thinking about the indian yellow too, as I love Rembrandt’s Aureoline made with PY150 too. Now I’m just going to stare at your painting for at least five minutes because it’s so beautiful.
Thank you for the kind words Julia!! I went ahead and emailed the seller to let them know. I went back and checked my original order and I did as for the single pigment PBr7, so they must have reformulated and not updated the listing, or vice versa.
In Liquid Color you’re welcome! some time ago (2-3 years??) Nevskaya Palitra changed their pans from transparent soft plastic to harder white plastic (found it somewhere on their instagram, I got a few of the older ones open-stock and I had to find out, haha) and I’ve been looking at their charts and social media profiles for at least 1,5 year and this pigment combination you got is odd, there’s nothing even similar to this on their website (and they have been updating the chart regularly) and you did get the new pan. Are these pigment numbers on the packaging? You could message Nevskaya Palitra on Instagram about it, since their online colour chart says Raw Sienna is single pigment (and I think they should reply in English with no problems). Just an idea. Now I’m curious how this happened 🤔
thanks Denise...ordered a lot of these..have a set from 1993...they are really professional...though they do not flow well..you can use oxgall or dish soup...the oposite of Qor
Wow! New lights are great! Colors are really popping! Nice job! Also, SSA has them individually and they have fabulous customer service. They would have sent you that Indian Gold for free most likely. :)
I wanted a set of these for a long time, and I did some research about them, and there seems to be some agreement that White Nights and Yarka St Petersburg are the same company, just marketed in a different area of the world. Dick Blick carries them under this name, as sets and open stock, though not that cheap. I got the set of 36 and love them. Most surprising to me was how transparent they are. Didn't expect that. Love your peacock. We are "almost" neighbors, I live in San Rafael, CA. Learning so much from you about pigments. Love your channel!
Here are the current colors. www.nevskayapalitra.ru/eng/production/watercolor There are some new colors. Also, this month, they released all their colors in TUBES. The new tubes are not listed on their website, yet. There is a blog post about them, though. The tubes you will see on this linked page are the tubes that they have had available for a long time. But now they have all the colors available. And they introduced Watercolor Pencils. They are not available outside of Russia, yet, but they coming here (Ukraine) soon.
I’m so glad that you liked these paints. As I mentioned I’ve been using them for years and they are such a wonderful value and I am very happy to be able to even find them now in the States. As always a wonderful review.
In Liquid Color For the most part with a few exceptions. There is a terrible orange. I have to figure out which one. It has horrible mixing qualities. The paints are very vibrant and have some unique characteristics when you explore the other colors in depth.
Another awesome review, Denise! And you're not going crazy. Both the eBay listing and the Nevskaya Palitra website show Raw Sienna as PBr7. There must have been a recent reformulation. Yuck! Thanks to you, I am a stickler for wanting single pigment paints.
I went ahead and wrote the seller to let them know! Hopefully they'll update the listing... Though I still haven't tried a "normal" raw sienna now!! Haha.
HAHAHA, its like your psychic. everytime I contemplate buying a certain brand you upload a video. I was just looking at these today. I love your reviews and trust your opinions !
I have the 24-pan set. This is usually sold out according to "Deovir" (an art store here in Manila, Ph). We can buy it here for about 2usd +++ per full pan depending on color. I like this paint as it is much cheaper than the other artist grade paints. The colors are all pigmented but I encountered an issue with ceruleum blue. The paint spilled into my other pans (I made sure it has no water on it) when I closed that big box.
Congratulations to successful delivery! ^.^ glad you enjoy the paints so much :) that hard to rewet thing about PG7 is weird, mine rewets like breeze... Half of my palette contains these paints, sadly white nights lack a bit in warm spectrum... Yellows, oranges and warm reds. But the rest is quite nice :) My raw sienna is made with just PBr7... It's raw umber that is multiple mix here. As for gramulation, can say it don't granulate much, albeit ultrmarine showed some settling out of the wash, earth tones (sienna/umber) too... But compared to Daniel Smith.... Feels not granulating at all :D or I'm too spoiled by TRO and TBO ultimate granulating combo :D Thanks for this review! ^.^ it's nice to see these side by side with big brands ^.^ P.S. SAA paints from UK have whole selection of plans available. The colors released for 2017 are hard to find even in Europe, but SAA has them. Jackson's have the usual selection minus new colors available open stock too :)
In Liquid Color they are either opaque(ish) or fugitive or mix with fugitive pigment. Or your "favorite" cadmiums :) PY3 is quite on the opaque side here, like PO62 golden deep. Titian red PO36 is nice though. Cadmiums are what they are (PY35 and PR108 respectively), and the rest is fugitive (golden contains fugitive PO17, hanza yellow is PY1, also fugitive, scarlet is mixture of fugitive PR2 and PR4, don't have Ruby, but I think it's not lightfast pigment either.... And list goes on). Artiscreation.com is awesome source of pigment info right after handprint. Indian yellow PY150 was released as new color in 2017, just like quin red, so it improved the range a bit. :)
In Liquid Color Anytinme :) Compared to your awesome knowledge mine is minimal, but in my personal hunt for transparent, high chroma, lightfast limited palette I had to research a bit :) your channel helped me a lot color swatch wise!!! :)
I was just going to post these suppliers. Both deliver internationally and the prices are great, they also can be dound on either ebay or amazon for those who prefer paypal. I am so impressed with white nights, they really compare well with other brands with just one or two exceptions and I believe they are fixing those. One of them was I think a quite fugitive lemon. If you research them then there are other vloggers who have done the light fast tests. Compared to what was available even 40 years ago they are great, go back a hundred and most colours were not that great. I have quite a lot of other brands, but if WN take my fancy to use and the work turns out well then I Would not consider them inferior, paper is just as important in them lasting, and in any case who is to know how long work will survive, I do not make it for that but to enjoy the making and hope someone will enjoy having the end result. I will confess though, I am more an art as gift kind of person than art as business.
@@InLiquidColor awesome that you replied! ☺ thanks! I could get a hold of a pan of PG8 yesterday at my local store and am even more excited! Thanks a ton! Do you use the white nights regularly, and if so, any thoughts?
Another stockist - Ken Bromley in the UK also has White Nights open stock and ships to the US. Might be worth checking them out as they can be cheaper than Jackson's.
I have a full set of 36 of the Yarka St Petersburg that I haven’t tried yet (I’m very much a beginner) so I was interested to see your review. Love your videos and research. Rhonda Wilson
I think I lucked out with these. I was in Sweden this Christmas and nabbed the 24 set for about 18 USD at an art store during a post-holiday sale. They also had the Schminke 12-tube set for 40 USD, but I didn't nab it ;_; Supply availability overseas is really interesting. Only one store in the whole city sold Daniel Smith and they were 30 bucks a tube. Wonderful review again. I love your encyclopediac comprehension of every set you review. Oddly enough, your channel has both fueled and curbed my watercolor addiction. Fueled because I love your work and the effort you put into building knowedlge over this medium, and curbed because I'm finally realizing that it's best to build my collection around what I need for my own personal artistic endeavors and not necessarily what I want because of the pretty colors.
I'm so glad to hear that the channel has been helpful! I definitely want to support people buying what suits their personal needs. Each paint has their own character. I know I would have loved to see a lot of these types of reviews before I got into them, so I'm happy to help in what way I can. I have only been to Hungary since I started watercoloring, and they only had Royal Talens at that particular art shop - I was really surprised they didn't have White Nights! I'd love to travel somewhere in western Europe to snatch up some Schmincke!
I know this is a really old video by now but the emerald green (I'm just swatching my set that I put together out right now) this one I have really wet easily and mine looks a lot deeper, I wonder if something has changed or maybe you unfortunately got an off pan? I really like this color it's very vibrant. I got a set of 24 on amazon and then supplemented with open stock from jacksons. I have to add though that my palette was slightly off. Instead of receiving orange lake i got titian red and instead of getting blue i got bright blue (or so the wrapper said) because the pan was actually blue lake 😆 Other than that I'm really happy with it. Had i known i wouldn't be able to smoosh my 4 half pans of m graham paint into the palette I would have just picked out 2 more full white nights pans. Now I'm sitting here with a 36 palette with 34 colors and oh my god it's really bothering me 😂
Fabulous review again thank you. Your swatch book is now so comprehensive that it is possible to choose the best versions of the pigments from all the manufacturers during your reviews. I love PG8 but as I only use tubes rather than pans I got it through Shin Han PWC They have 2 versions, a sap and a darker hookers green. Your painting is wonderful Thanks again, you have helped me choose several colours that I would not have tried were it not for your reviews
Always said great information thank you so much Denise and 11 beautiful peacock I love that light loose style you just did wonderful ::: and it’s so exciting I accidentally bought some of that Dr. PH bleed through white by accident and now I know how to use it so well thank you I was just using it as an addition to some highlights but I think you’re doing that in the way I haven’t tried so many of the things you review but I’m very excited to always see your views and when you put them into practice - thanks again and thank you for understanding some of us are just enjoying your content so much and I thank the patrons because I feel guilty about not being one bud LOL that’s just again thank you 💜
My White Knights pallet were a gift and the first "Real watercolors" that I got. 😃 All my pans are so dry and have cracked terribly. I don't reach for them anymore as I've discovered DS and Schminke but I'm grateful to have had them. I thought about 4-6 of the colors were opaque and hard to work with. Just my experience. 🙂 Thanks for your review!
Oh interesting! I've definitely never heard them referred to as dry before since they contain honey - time will tell! Which set do you have? I specifically avoided the sets with opaque colors for your later reasoning. Thanks for sharing your experience with them? Are you feeling any better?
In Liquid Color :: I'll have to take a picture of the pallet when I get home. It's bizarre!-- happy to see you painting! I'm still sick, thanks for asking. Hope you are well.💛
So I was wondering about the lightfastness of these paints. I wanted to get them and I know some will be fugative but I am not sure. I heard you did a test so what were your results?
Hi! Thanks for this review. Jackson's Art (in the UK) carries the whole range of White Nights paints in open stock -and because they don't charge VAT to customers outside Europe, it could be quite a bargain for those lucky watercolour fans outside of the EU. Jackson's is very reliable and they also offer all the pigment info on their website. I am not affiliated with them - but am a big fan of them as a supplier. And shipping from the UK might be easier than shipping from Russia :-)
Aren't they delicious?? We are missionaries in Ukraine and this is the main brand of watercolor, of course. They are AWESOME. And very cheap. Around $1.25 per full pan.
Nice review and demo of quick artwork, thank you for sharing:) End of 2017 Nevskaya Palitra released 10ml White Nights watercolors in tubes: 37 colors so far, somehow limited today pallete comparing to 64 colors of full 2.5ml pans. Price wise they are somehow 2x more expensive than full pans, so probably round 4 USD in the US art supplies market...
Hi, thank you for this great video, the swatches made me dreaming!! and it's nice to see the explanations about the pigments!! I´m starting in watercolor and my final goal is to paint realistic botanical art. If you had to choose between white nights and van gogh for this purpose, witch one would you recomend? thanks in advance!!
This is my first view of this video! I just bypassed them because I had never considered them because I have not heard very many things about them and I have other wish list brands!
What a great value and beautiful painting denise it's stunning! Love the loose style I hope you keep doing it every once in a while:) The ending song gets me into such a happy mood full of insipiration I don't know whyy 😂
Cool...I’ve heard good things about these paints. The 36 pan set has dropped in price in amazon so it’s coming my way. ;) Question about your swatch cards.....what size are they? Thanks for all the info you share with us. Love the peacock painting 💖💖💖
OMG they are in open stock here at my local art supply store for just under 2€ (2,4 US Dollar) per full pan, and i was reluctant, but picked up a couple of individual pans (turqouises, pinks, purples) I only tried to swatch them once, they are beautifully pigmented, but when dried they seemed to bleed a little strange into my paper? (at the edges it looks ragged, but i need to try different papers)
I think they're about the same as a standard full pans, but they overfill them over the edges so they look bigger. They're marketed as 2.5ml if that helps.
lol, m graham doesnt come close to your favo blue-ish color. I love the white nights for practice though. That deep green is awesome,i use it all the time, lol. I am in love with their glow when glazed and i will re-order mine, just because they take the pressure off, price wise for practice. now you know why i have been drooling over them so much, haha
Oh and I have a question I wanted to comment seperately, if anyone has any insight I would appreciate it. So the white nights palette (the current plastic 36 full pan) is very specific as to which pans it will hold. Can anybody tell me which empty pans they have found to fit in there? Its looking like I'll just have to reuse the white nights when they are empty but I'm curious to see if anyone has tested this out and knows which ones definitely fit
i believe the confusion with the raw sienna is the fact that the official website lists the raw sienna as made from PBr7. It was my reference when I purchased the White Night paints from Jackson's.
OK so this might get long, I hope you find it in your whirlwind of comments. I have been quietly following your channel now for a few weeks watching hours of you a day in fact interspersed with other watercolor people but whenever I want the facts, the researched color information or brand information I always find myself coming back to you I had to let you Know that. Your organization and presentation is smooth factual and you correct yourself before you even publish your videos. I appreciate that detail and consistency and I’m sorry that your own presentation of art may have suffered in the process. I made the mistake of buying really shit paints in the beginning and haven’t been getting very good results so now I have bought these hoping that they will give me better consistency and fluidity in part because of your review and because of your honorable mention in the top three student grade paints. thank you for providing such excellent comment and commentary. ❤️
Perfect timing! I have birthday money and have been trying to decide what to get.. Was between these, Lukas 1862 and the mission gold pan set, but I think I'm leaning towards White Nights. I think the Lukas are going to be pretty similar to my Schmincke's... Do you have a vote?
Happy belated birthday! Hmm, that's a toughy. I've only ever used Lukas from tubes and I was not impressed, but I have heard the pans are better. I haven't used the Mission Gold pans either, just their tubes, and they're lovely. I'd say that Mission Gold would have my vote for the the really bright colors and many of their colors are transparent - but the con is that their earth tones are not strong. I only have this limited set of the White Nights but I really think for the value they're quite wonderful. I have heard that their warmer colors can be opaque, so that's a consideration as well. It really depends on what you enjoy working with!
Thank you! I unfortunately am a bit of an art supply junkie and just can't help myself to try more and collect different paints.. although I wouldn't say my aspirations are quite to your level! I have some Schmincke & Sennelier in pans thus far. I have some Daniel Smith and M Graham in tubes, but am struggling to use them at this juncture.. I have 2 young children who are quite a handful at the moment (the little one is turning 2 this spring). So until I can get them squeezed into pan and organized, it's really hard to grab them to paint quickly, so unfortunately they are just not being used.. pans are way easier for me at the moment.. The Schmincke and Sennelier pallettes I have are a bit more standard (although I do have both of the Schmincke limited edition sets as well). So I would say I am looking for more an expanded color selection with less standard colors. I think I like the White Nights sets for the pinks and warm colors and greens that seem to be nice for botanical paintings. But, the bright colors in the Mission Gold just seem so fun! It is though.. I just want it all! Haha Thanks!
p.s. There was a review of White Nights on Doodlewash and they pointed me to another U.K. website - www.stpetersburgwatercolours.com which appear to have the newer colors. Also, Alyona Infashionlove on UA-cam works with them a lot and has a rather large palette if you ware curious.
Yeahhh. The PG8 green is beautiful! I just splurged on some Daniel Smith essentials and couple extras to play with so I need to slow down lol. But was wondering about White Nights and think I would skip out because of how hard they are to get. I have a feeling I’d like Sennelier better than White Nights. Great review as usual and beautiful painting.
I hope you have fun with your new paints! I personally think I prefer these to Sennelier though it's a little hard to say at this early stage in my friendship with White Nights :)
Everyone I know who has these paints love them, they are available at Jackson's art supply at a great price even for us Canadians...i did just hours ago splurged on some awesome watercolour paper by ,The two rivers paper company Jackson's sent a sample in my last order ,it's a cotton and linen paper,it's excellent! Heather
Gorgeous! Is it true that only the male peacocks have brightly colored feathers? I know that's the case with small birds and the difference is striking. I just wondered if peacocks have such extreme differences.
The fact that their sets come in FULL pans while not including a white makes them such an attractive buy. And they're priced so cheaply, they're closer in price to student paints here! Thanks so much for the awesome review
Nicolle The 36 set contains a semi-opaque white
its so funny to read that it's cheap, because in Russia its one of the most expensive paints))))))))))))))) god help me

This is the most detailed paint review I ever watched. So awesome.

Truly love your Instruction Denise, they've always been helpful ever since I began painting again, always glad when I visit your page
Thanks for the tip, no paper here but I'll see if its easier to wet further down regardless.
Wow, the paints swatched so smoothly! And that PG8, ain't it gorgeous! ♥
They did! I realized I maybe did not get the best selection for a pure review, but I like the colors I got!
@@InLiquidColor One question is there a Green color from White Nights that other brands have the same values but its more lightfast then 2 stars?? Color is simply beautiful and it would mean alot to me find out who makes similar color ????Thank you upfront!
@@predragdjokic3761 I don't know of other PG8s outside of handmade paints. But I did a lightfastness test on my version and it didn't fade!
Denise, your art and your videos just keep getting better and better. I especially love the peacock's feathers.
Thank you Sharon! I've been away from them for too long!
I just got mine on sale for 59.99 for 36 shipped from Utrecht's and I swatched them and they are so beautiful and vibrant. I have just started to watercolor and I have just fallen in love with this medium and I enjoy your videos a lot.
I have the 36 set and I honestly love them. The greens in the set are honestly my favorite greens that I own, particularly the Russian green color.
These watercolours are beautiful! They are so vibrant and pigmented!I am sure you are excited about them ❤❤
Love your peacock!! So beautiful! Painting loose is so difficult.....you totally did it here.....fantastic!
Thank you so much!!
Thanks Lisa! And thank you for the addition of the inktense. The bulletproof white is new for me, but I'm really liking it so far!
I have the full set of the white nights and what's strange is for me the emerald green was actually one of the most pigmented colors in my set. Could have been a manufacturing error?
I was really, really surprised by that. Maybe I got a dud!
mine is also super intense
I'm not sure but I guess of the physical color ? I mean like yellow is gonna be transparent compared to red which will be opaque, I bought the set but still didnt try it out.
I realized the bottom of the box there are the color names next to them ( stars) and ( full, empty and half full) box which explain if they are opaque or transparent and how lightfastness they are.
The painting demo was mesmerizing! I watched it three times!!
Aw thank you so much Tina!
This was the first set I bought and I love it!
Wow, your peacock is gorgeous! I love White Nights paints, so glad you reviewed and liked them. :)
Two things I've learned about this paint:
OMG I must say I love your swatch book! This is such an amazing idea!
I'm very curious, how did the light fastness test end up? :)
Yay full painting with reviews! I'm curious about your thoughts on the water brushes. This peacock turned out so gorgeous and what a great value for those paints!
I like the brushes so far! The tip on my preferred size isn't very sharp, but I'll do some more work with them for the review coming up :)
Beautiful painting and super informative video! 💖💖💖
Great peacock! I'm already sold on White Nights but still love watching new reviews of them.
I do that with all my favorites too! :)
Love the loose tail feathers! You did an amazing job! Now I want to go look through peacock reference photos 😂
What would u say are the most vibrant and bold Watercolors? I love big pops of color. Someone suggested Mijello Gold.
Thanks so much for the review. Someday I will find the time to dedicate and get better at watercolor. Always love your paintings.
Thank you so much :)
I bought the 36 set of white nights at my local art store and here are my experiences with them so far.
-they're pigmented.obviously
-The paints are sticky and the pigments stick to my fingers when switching the pans.
This peacock is stunning!
Thanks for the kind words and for sharing! I'm going to try to scrape off the top of the PG7 and see what I can find under there :)
I love the Arteza watercolour brushes because the colour does not get sucked back into the reservoir like it does in some water brushes such as Pentel.
A thorough review as always :) and your peacock painting is stunning! So glad you liked the paints, they are the ones I use as well, and I enjoy them very much.
Thank you for the kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed the review and the painting.
that’s weird, my White Nights raw sienna is PBr7 only 🤔 and my emerald green picks up really easily, or I’m just used to something else, haha
I’m so happy you finally tried them out and liked them!!
Julia Z my raw sienna is PBr7 as well!
Julia Z Mine too!
Yep! It's on the packaging! I'll see if I can send them a picture and ask :)
thanks Denise...ordered a lot of these..have a set from 1993...they are really professional...though they do not flow well..you can use oxgall or dish soup...the oposite of Qor
Yep, that sums it up pretty well!
Wow! New lights are great! Colors are really popping! Nice job! Also, SSA has them individually and they have fabulous customer service. They would have sent you that Indian Gold for free most likely. :)
Yay! I'm glad they're looking good. It's so nice to be able to record at any hour!
Hello neighbor! Thanks so much for the kind words, and yes, the Yarkas are owned by the same company :)
Great review - love your Mr. Peacock!! Thanks so much for all of the information that you provide!
Thank you Gail! Happy to help :)
Chris Malone oh wow! The tubes are exciting!
I’m so glad that you liked these paints. As I mentioned I’ve been using them for years and they are such a wonderful value and I am very happy to be able to even find them now in the States. As always a wonderful review.
I'm relieved too! I did avoid the opaque colors that I didn't think I would like, but I love the ones I got :)
Haha.
What a beautiful peacock. Very beautiful painting.
HAHAHA, its like your psychic. everytime I contemplate buying a certain brand you upload a video. I was just looking at these today. I love your reviews and trust your opinions !
Yay! Glad it was timely, and thank you for the kind words.
But the rest is quite nice :)
My raw sienna is made with just PBr7... It's raw umber that is multiple mix here.
As for gramulation, can say it don't granulate much, albeit ultrmarine showed some settling out of the wash, earth tones (sienna/umber) too... But compared to Daniel Smith.... Feels not granulating at all :D or I'm too spoiled by TRO and TBO ultimate granulating combo :D
Thanks for this review! ^.^ it's nice to see these side by side with big brands ^.^
P.S. SAA paints from UK have whole selection of plans available. The colors released for 2017 are hard to find even in Europe, but SAA has them.
Jackson's have the usual selection minus new colors available open stock too :)
I saw they have a wide range of the warm colors. In what way are they lacking, out of curiosity? I have heard some are opaque, so I avoided those.
Good to know!! Thank you for sharing the information :)
Beautiful, so glad you will show us more of your art. I struggle with the same issue (loosen up!)
Any update regarding the lightfastness of PG8 is very much appreciated :)
No lightfastness issues after six month, but it does have an interesting texture to it tbh.
@@InLiquidColor awesome that you replied! ☺ thanks! I could get a hold of a pan of PG8 yesterday at my local store and am even more excited! Thanks a ton! Do you use the white nights regularly, and if so, any thoughts?
👏F👏I👏N👏A👏L👏L👏Y👏
😍😍😍
Another stockist - Ken Bromley in the UK also has White Nights open stock and ships to the US. Might be worth checking them out as they can be cheaper than Jackson's.
I've got 3 primary colors by White Nights, including the Blue, and I do like it! That green is surely awesome! Thanks for this review, Denise :)
Oh you can also get these pans for about 1.50 on saa.co.uk it takes about 2 weeks to arrive in the U.S.
I have a full set of 36 of the Yarka St Petersburg that I haven’t tried yet (I’m very much a beginner) so I was interested to see your review. Love your videos and research. Rhonda Wilson
I hope you like them Rhonda! They're lovely little paints, in my opinion.
I think I lucked out with these. I was in Sweden this Christmas and nabbed the 24 set for about 18 USD at an art store during a post-holiday sale. They also had the Schminke 12-tube set for 40 USD, but I didn't nab it ;_;
Supply availability overseas is really interesting.
Instead of receiving orange lake i got titian red and instead of getting blue i got bright blue (or so the wrapper said) because the pan was actually blue lake 😆
Other than that I'm really happy with it.
Thank you for the kind words. I'm so glad it's helpful!!
for some reason i feel like you've been uploading so much recently. spoiling us! haha
I have been working my tail off! Trying to do three videos a week in February to play catch up on neglected reviews :)
Always said great information thank you so much Denise and 11 beautiful peacock I love that light loose style you just did wonderful ::: and it’s so exciting I accidentally bought some of that Dr. PH bleed through white by accident and now I know how to use it so well thank you I was just using it as an addition to some highlights but I think you’re doing that in the way I haven’t tried so many of the things you review but I’m very excited to always see your views and when you put them into practice - thanks again and thank you for understanding some of us are just enjoying your content so much and I thank the patrons because I feel guilty about not being one bud LOL that’s just again thank you 💜
Thanks for the kind words Diana!
Hope you are well.💛
Sending tons of well wishes!!
Thanks.I love your beautiful artwork.❤❤❤
Thank you!!
So I was wondering about the lightfastness of these paints. I wanted to get them and I know some will be fugative but I am not sure. I heard you did a test so what were your results?
Jackson Arts has this paint as well and delivers worldwide ;)
Thanks for sharing!
Aren't they delicious?? We are missionaries in Ukraine and this is the main brand of watercolor, of course. They are AWESOME. And very cheap. Around $1.25 per full pan.
What a deal!!
omg. i love this video and your swatch book. this video really helpful to me. thank you ^^
What an excellent swatch system you have.
I was actually mostly interested in a Peacock while starting to watch this video. I value good animal art, your work is very inspiring, thank you.
Beautiful peacock and thanks so much for the the review. 💞💫
Nice review and demo of quick artwork, thank you for sharing:)
End of 2017 Nevskaya Palitra released 10ml White Nights watercolors in tubes: 37 colors so far, somehow limited today pallete comparing to 64 colors of full 2.5ml pans.
Price wise they are somehow 2x more expensive than full pans, so probably round 4 USD in the US art supplies market...
These 10ml tubes one can buy either separately or in sets of 12 or 24 :)
It's exciting to hear they're offering tubes now!
Where can you get the tubes online to ship to the US?
Hi, thank you for this great video, the swatches made me dreaming!! and it's nice to see the explanations about the pigments!! I´m starting in watercolor and my final goal is to paint realistic botanical art. If you had to choose between white nights and van gogh for this purpose, witch one would you recomend? thanks in advance!!
Amazing reviews, first video I watch of your chanel and I LOVE the swatch book :)) so useful, Im gonna start my own !
UA-camr confession, whenever I get to play the extended bit of the song at the end of a video, it makes me dance while I'm editing :)
Cool...I’ve heard good things about these paints. The 36 pan set has dropped in price in amazon so it’s coming my way. ;) Question about your swatch cards.....what size are they? Thanks for all the info you share with us. Love the peacock painting 💖💖💖
they seem about gaming card size
I have White Nights Raw Sienna and it's a straight-up PBr7. Did they change their formulation?
Hi. Does anyone know if there's animal product in these paints? I can't find any information. Thank you!
@SuperMoonfinder Hey thanks for the response. Some watercolors include honey or oxgall, etc. I have since been informed that these include honey.
Whitenights watercolor paint is my obssession 😍😍 this one is affordable artist paint in philippines.
Hmm that does seem like a paper issue. I hope it gets worked out, and I hope you continue to enjoy the watercolors!
Your peacock is absolutely beautiful!
The pans look bigger than a standard full pan. How big are the pans compared to two regular 1/2 pans? Thank you.
I think they're about the same as a standard full pans, but they overfill them over the edges so they look bigger. They're marketed as 2.5ml if that helps.
Thank you, so much! I love your channel.
Thanks Jacklyn :)
lol, m graham doesnt come close to your favo blue-ish color. I love the white nights for practice though. That deep green is awesome,i use it all the time, lol. I am in love with their glow when glazed and i will re-order mine, just because they take the pressure off, price wise for practice. now you know why i have been drooling over them so much, haha
@In Liquid Color can you do a you tube video regarding how u do your watercoloir swatch cards as im interested
I have one :)
You're finally worked with them! Congratulations! Hopefully my dot cards will arrive to you as well :)
Nejem thank you! I hope so too!
The emerald green is really pretty
Good ol' phthalo green!
Everyone I know who has these paints love them, they are available at Jackson's art supply at a great price even for us Canadians...i did just hours ago splurged on some awesome watercolour paper by ,The two rivers paper company
Jackson's sent a sample in my last order ,it's a cotton and linen paper,it's excellent!

Gorgeous! Is it true that only the male peacocks have brightly colored feathers? I know that's the case with small birds and the difference is striking. I just wondered if peacocks have such extreme differences.
Thanks! Yes, the species is actually called peafowl. The females are called peahens :) They have some teal feathers but are mostly brown.
