I actually live in a country where the only professional watercolors available are these. This year I actually bought Van Gogh watercolors in Italy so I have branched out a bit. But the White Nights are still my favorite. P.S. Happy birthday!
Thank you for this video. I own 36 colors set. I also purchased it on Ebay, which is quite expensive in comparison for how much you can buy them in Russia! Blick sells individual sets too under the name Yarka.
Happy happy birthday for this week!!! You're doing amazing as a mother, wife and artist! You have been working so super hard this past year and its really paying off! Omg 😱 ! Your piece is so amazing !!😍 I was so exiteed for this video ! And as always I love it ! Thank you so much for sharing your work and comments !❤️
HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY!!! I really enjoy my 2 White Nights sets :D I wanted a cheaper pallet than my Sennelier for sketching and stuff, and these are just perfect! In the Netherlands they costs only slightly more than W&N Cotman and for the amount of paint and quality I really prefer these over the slightly cheaper W&N
@@schaiathabit8363 yes, but i prefer these much better cause the van Gogh's tend to be not that pigmented in my opinion and plus the van Gogh get used up wayy faster
I love the White Nights too, they perform really nice and I love their vibrancy. (I've tested their 36pan palette for lightfastness and they perform well!) So, I'm pretty happy to have and use them :) The painting you made with them is gorgeous, I always adore how you paint skin and the glow your portraits have. :)
Love these paints. I tried all kinds , but so far they are my favorite so I was glad to see your review. And I loved your painting especially at a certain unfinished stage when I could still see some of the drrawing. Which are your favorite watercolors?
It seems like White Nights uses some less common, possibly less lightfast pigments in their paints, though that's not necessarily a bad thing, and that PG8 is lovely to look at! I really love this painting as well! The background texture is really nice, and I love that you added a bit of gouache to the black lines, I think it really made them a more integrated part of the portrait. I personally struggle with wanting darker richer colors in my paintings, and so I overwork them, adding way too many layers until I lose that lovely glow that watercolors offer. I honestly think you strike a really good balance. Great job, and thank you for the video :) Oh! And happy birthday!! Many happy returns :)
I just bought the premade set (36 colours) because they were on sale (think: very very much on sale) and I'm glad with your review that I saw, back in August. I also use the double taping technique that I learned here. Love it.
I've been waiting for this video for so long!! And obviously it made me much more happy for some reason White Nights are the base for my watercolor pallet. Honestly, I think this brand doesn't give enough variety of yellows. That's my biggest struggle now, because in my country and city I can't find any replacement from another brands, and even if one day I'll order it, I don't know which one is good, enough lightfast and (hopefully) affordable. Can you, please, recommend good yellows from your experience? (And yellow ochre from White Nights is the worst colour of all that exists from them. Seriously, never try it.)
I can confirm that the White Nights yellow ochre is horrible :D If you get them in tubes and squeeze them out into a pallet, the yellows and ultramarine will just never dry. But overall they're lovely.
@IAmBread a) weak. have to dig hard to pick enough colour (tube is better option in this regard). b) fugitive. it is coloured with PY1 highly fugitive pigment (i use their raw sienna instead, with addition of indian yellow, when needed). c) yellow ochre by other brands just looks nicer (might be because of point a). besides that, in WN palette are some "buy fresh, paint fast" colours, that do get unusable with time. quite fast in fact. like prussian blue, in a matter of couple of years becomes unusable, but nice while still fresh though. mars brown nice colour, but it gets gel-like with time. hope that helps.
IAmBread I’ve heard some people say they don’t enjoy the Earth Tones in this brand but I have noticed the yellow ochre being horrible. Maybe it’s just the tube version for whatever reason? Jane Blundell has a blog post about this brand that might be helpful to you!
I love my White Nights! Thanks for the lovely video showcasing them I love the colors you chose 👍🏻 Buying pans rather than a set was a better call. I love the palette the sets come in for mixing space but the pans slide all around and it’s very silly. (I have the 24 set).
I purchased a 24 set back then in AliExpress, but I might purchase some individual pans from your selection, I do love these colours a lot! Also I think every Naples yellow must be opaque, it's usually like this, I have one van Gogh tube and it's probably mixed in with white.
Would you ever do a collab with Danica Sills? I adore the way you both work and it feels like sometimes you two explore similar themes but in such amazingly different ways, I would love to see how something created by both of you turned out.
I took them from bulgaria and they are just amazing! I just need to get the hang of it.... It's the first time I paint with real watercolors and they are so different!
I have been using the Conem watercolors, they are very vibrant and I love the colors. I got the 24 half pan set the selection works for me, but I could see that it might not suit every artist
I also started working with white nights and find wet on dry layering works incredibly well, but I do have some problems with wet on wet. The pigments do not spread the way I want it. Maybe I simply got the wrong colors? What are your experiences on that issue?
That's a nice drawing!! I bought a set of these watercolours in November, but I still haven't opened them (I'm struggling with a horrible mental block and depression). The few times I'll draw for an exhibition or a YT video I still reach for my 20 yo watercolour set, or other mediums. Maybe I'll try them out soon in a drawing video, because they look great!! Thank you!!
Great review and happy birthday (it's actually also my birthday in a few days :)). To get out of the habit of those thin transparent layers you could try kind of a challenge where you try to get the values (or generally the colors) down in only 2 or 3 layers, so that you HAVE to use darker and more bold colors. Just a suggestion :>
Yarka were the first watercolors I ever bought; Jerry's had a great deal (and I think the deal's still on, month's later!). I find that I struggle a bit to mix them with other brands like Sennelier and Holbein. They are sticky af, and don't travel as well - that said, I live in a horrendously humid region, so that might be a big factor. They're not my first choice, but I haven't been disappointed with my purchase. They're a very economical starting point. :)
Does anyone have her single full pan color list from this video? I would like to compare to my own set to see if maybe I can add a couple. I have the Leningrad 24 half pan set but I feel is missing something, just cannot point my finger to exactly which color would be. Thanks!
Your paintings are amazing!! Thanks for sharing them with us :) Could you make a watercolor painting video in which you also show your mixing? It would be very helpful :) Thanks!
Happy birthday!!! By mid October I will have the full range that the seller on Ebay has🤪 the wait is killer... As for the paints, I love them. I used a tin from my polychromos to make the pallet for it!
For anyone else looking for these, Blick has them under the Yarka St. Petersburg professional watercolor pans as open stock. Same brand, different name, according to the Jackson's website. Jacksons has better selection though, especially for the metallics. I haven't ordered from Jackson's so I don't know if the shipping to the US would offset the lower price on their website. Blicks is definitely higher per pan.
whats crazy is, that cat you painted.. i just painted something similar using the same colors. in a different pose and style but using the same materials you did here. the white nights paints and the handbook journal. i love how your cat looks over mine though. you did right with picking your own colors..i got the 24 set and the palette it comes with is so annoying to use that i put it away the minute i saw it. + theres a good amount of pans that have multiple pigments in them. and the cobalt blue & yellow ochre are terrible. owell i'll live !
Would you recommend these as an introduction to professional watercolors? Would you recommend I pick my own? I don't know a lot about pigments and I wouldn't know where to start picking my own colors
I have them the 24 Set and I gut them to Beginn with and the set has everything you need, except a white, which you could just pick up or use it without, which I did for years. They lastet me already 5 years and I use them a lot. It is more than you need and if you one day would like to expand the 24 set cones in a 36 palette and if you live in Europe you can buy them online individually in selected stores. Their a bit more pricey than in Russia, but you also don’t have to pay shipping and have them in 2-3 days
I've been waiting for this for some time now. I got my first somewhat good quality watercolors this year and they were the white nights set, i really enjoy working with them, i find them amazing in layering. I don't have much experience in watercolors in general, but I enjoy a lot of the colors in the 24 set, however I miss some colors, especially the browns, I don't find them satisfying enough. But that might be me. I enjoyed your review and the paintings. Happybirthday
I too, baught a 24 paints set in which the colors weren't enough for me! I mean, I needed BRIGHT BLUE! And a lot more. So I baught 12 more individually. ('Cause there is place for 12 more in the pallete)
@@LantraAntero yeah the reds weren't enough either! But honestly i didn't include any reds in the next 12s i bought lol. I dunno... some colors in the 24 sets could be made or were similiar... so they could put more different colors there! But overall it wasn't a very bad color choice
how do you keep the pans from sliding? I just recently got a palette with a similar set up, but the pans slide around. Am I doing something wrong or should I just tape/glue them down?
Can you please add a link to the tape you use. I would like to try your technique of taping from the back. Thank you for your review. I just got the 36 White Knights and I am excited to dive in. Thank you.
Omfg, Arleebean, don't take this the wrong way, but when I glanced at the thumbnail the character looked like she had buckteeth or something and my brain had to *triple* check to realize: "No... it's just a line she put on top of the lips..." Love your work and happy birthday!
My friend gave me a halfpan of White Nights. I like the color, but it feels so... I don't know, like a glue? Does White Nights have glue binder like Gansai Tambi paints?
I know this is kind of an old video now, but maybe someone can help ^^ I am currently looking for watercolors and there are so many brands on the market that I feel overwhelmed xD Can anyone tell me if these watercolors lift easily when dry? Because I like to work in a lot of washes and the arteza watercolors I used did reactivate again and ruined the whole painting =/ So I need watercolors that stay put once they dried... are these any good for this technique?
hi, i don't know if this would be of much help since i don't know of any WCs that are known for lifting abilities but the sets i own (white night, van gogh and shinhan) have no problems lifting after they are dry.
Can anyone help me decide? I’m choosing between sennelier la petite aquarelle (£40 for 24 half pans), white nights (£60 for 36 whole pans) or talens Van Gogh (£35 for 24 half pans). I’ve included prices because they’re super variable to the prices I’ve seen everyone paying in videos! Thanks :)
I bought the 36 color set from Jackson's as my first "professional " set and I'm not at all sorry I did. The colors are amazing and the cost was very doable...when you buy from Jackson's that is haha I still want to try some other brands like Daniel Smith but I'm happy so no hurry😊
Fifty-Two seconds plugging your stuff or a sponsors is good I would say for a fifteen minute video 3 minutes is acceptable but yeah nice and I even watched it and didn't skip ahead. I have the 36 set got it at an amazing price on Blick's website last year and I think it's really nice and high quality however I do not use it much. I am not at the skill level in watercolors where I need a professional set so I still use Cotman, Koi and my Gansi set along with a lot of tubes I have from a friend. You did well with such a limited pallet and that is what I am striving for learning how to use say six colors but I am years away from that. Anyways good video thumbs up.
So how good are they compared to Daniel Smith watercolors and Holbein ? I want to buy the whole set but I’m not sure which brand is better pls help if u know
Those gouache stickers are really awesome. It's very unique and i like it. I also like that editing you did at 1:15 ish.... It was super fun. I always love seeing when people are being creative with their editing! About the paint... the green is just GORGEOUS. The blues are also so lovely. ^_^ I wouldn't mind giving these paints a try sometime. They look like they would be nice to paint with. Good choice of colors that you picked! Wonderful review! ^___________^
if i remember correctly, you have kids, right? a fun "challenge" might be like drawing/painting what your kids have drawn or painting whatever they tell you to or an imaginary animal or something
They are both excellent. Replacement full pans of White Nights are cheap at jacksonsart.com, and shipping is very cheap. It is hard to find replacement half-pans for the Van Gogh, but tubes are widely available in the US at cheap joes, jerry's artarama, and blick. But whichever brand is easiest for you to get.
At art shop I work at now (in Poland) they are quite popular :) I haven't tried them yet myself but I am willing to give them a try. What other watercolors would you recommend?
I wonder, why people like them, when painting something special or more than just scatches is rather hard with those? so staining and hard to control. I must say, I am not happy hawing these. they now lay around, and every now and then, I pull it out just for a single colour to experiment or to try before getting the tube of a better brand. or for painting small post cards, which I rarely do. hm. I am still curious, on if people stick with those, after they tried other ones. and I wonder, why. the colours might be vibrant. but when painting with them is so hard..?

I actually live in a country where the only professional watercolors available are these. This year I actually bought Van Gogh watercolors in Italy so I have branched out a bit. But the White Nights are still my favorite.
P.S. Happy birthday!
Van Gogh watercolor is actually student-grade
Hi!! I notice you stamped the date on your mini paintings and I love that idea!!! Which stamper do you use?
Thank you for this video. I own 36 colors set. I also purchased it on Ebay, which is quite expensive in comparison for how much you can buy them in Russia! Blick sells individual sets too under the name Yarka.
Happy happy birthday for this week!!! You're doing amazing as a mother, wife and artist! You have been working so super hard this past year and its really paying off! I hope so much that this year brings you the happiness and blessings you deserve full of wonder, memories, and art! Have a majestic year ahead
Omg 😱 ! Your piece is so amazing !!😍 I was so exiteed for this video ! And as always I love it ! Thank you so much for sharing your work and comments !❤️
i love white nights for their opacity but i like that you showcase the transparencies of these paints. 💟
Happy Birthday arleesha! Hope you enjoyed it and have a great weekend
Your mark making in this is so beautiful!! I love the definition in the hair!
ooo they look so vibrant! Great piece too, I think the black lines were a really nice touch to the piece.
Wow thank you for this video! I was actually thinking about buying these watercolors😂you are really inspiring keep it up!😊
Thank you for the heart it means a lot to me😊kisses from germany😘
I have them for a couple of years and they have been very good so far. I recently got a bigger set which I have not yet used.
@@lisathaviu1154 thank you have you tried van Gogh I'm trying to get as many opinions as possible😊😋
@@schaiathabit8363 yes, but i prefer these much better cause the van Gogh's tend to be not that pigmented in my opinion and plus the van Gogh get used up wayy faster
I love how the painting turned out❤️
Loving this piece! The emotion is just so strong and genuine.
Happy birthday! What a beautiful piece. I love the lips and the eyes. Also congrats on 30k subscribers. Such an inspiration.
Happy birthday!!!! :D
I'm glad you got the lovely PG8 green ♥ Great colors and paintings (love the radishes!!)
Great job, and thank you for the video :)
Oh! And happy birthday!! Many happy returns :)
I love these types of videos ♡
💕💕 congrats on 30k !! 💕💕
WAAAH Thank you!!! :D
I just bought the premade set (36 colours) because they were on sale (think: very very much on sale) and I'm glad with your review that I saw, back in August.
I also use the double taping technique that I learned here. Love it.
I really wanna get something from your shop they are all so amazing 😩😍
I've been waiting for this video for so long!! And obviously it made me much more happy for some reason
White Nights are the base for my watercolor pallet.
What colour do think can be a substitute for there yellow ochre? There naples yellow?
@@arvindshukla8040 raw sienna is nice imo. I can confirm the yellow Ochre is dire.
I bought 6 of them (cool and warm primary colors) a month ago and I loved them! So, two weeks ago i ordered 12 more. I really enjoy working with them.
I love my White Nights! Thanks for the lovely video showcasing them I love the colors you chose 👍🏻 Buying pans rather than a set was a better call. I love the palette the sets come in for mixing space but the pans slide all around and it’s very silly. (I have the 24 set).
Put a dab of wet watercolor paint under each pan. When the paint dries, the pans will stick.
I purchased a 24 set back then in AliExpress, but I might purchase some individual pans from your selection, I do love these colours a lot! Also I think every Naples yellow must be opaque, it's usually like this, I have one van Gogh tube and it's probably mixed in with white.
Thank You Arlee for sharing your thoughts and creative process. Greatly appreciate, God Bless You
Would you ever do a collab with Danica Sills? I adore the way you both work and it feels like sometimes you two explore similar themes but in such amazingly different ways, I would love to see how something created by both of you turned out.
They have Naples yellow light which is a single pigment colour
I took them from bulgaria and they are just amazing! I just need to get the hang of it.... It's the first time I paint with real watercolors and they are so different!
Idk if those are available on eBay or Amazon, but Nevskaya Palitra now sell their own empty metal tins in different sizes.
Thanks!
Happy birthday mine was last week and love the prints
Your paintings are amazing!! Thanks for sharing them with us :)
Could you make a watercolor painting video in which you also show your mixing? It would be very helpful :) Thanks!
Happy birthday!!! By mid October I will have the full range that the seller on Ebay has🤪 the wait is killer...
As for the paints, I love them. I used a tin from my polychromos to make the pallet for it!
I got these watercolors Like 2 months ago and I love them!
Hi great little review I also have these watercolour s and I love them, I'm just wondering what type of brushes you are using ?
whats crazy is, that cat you painted.. i just painted something similar using the same colors. in a different pose and style but using the same materials you did here. the white nights paints and the handbook journal. i love how your cat looks over mine though. you did right with picking your own colors..i got the 24 set and the palette it comes with is so annoying to use that i put it away the minute i saw it. + theres a good amount of pans that have multiple pigments in them. and the cobalt blue & yellow ochre are terrible. owell i'll live !
You are such an inspiration
Beautiful. Great review. Thank you.
Beautiful art!😍
A very very good!!! Bravissima 🎨🎨🎨
@@aa-bm9ln I have a 24 set and it hasn't enoght reds for me ^^' I need crimson or deep red kinds of red but have only light one :D
I used a bit of kneaded eraser to stick them down
Put a nice drop of wet watercolor paint under each pan. When it dries the pans will stay in place.
Can you please add a link to the tape you use. I would like to try your technique of taping from the back. Thank you for your review. I just got the 36 White Knights and I am excited to dive in. Thank you.
The link is now there. :] Thanks so much for asking!
Beautiful!!
which pencil do you use to draw the sketch on watercolour paper?
Beautiful drawing!
Hello. Im not sure from video, but have granulation some of them?
Omfg, Arleebean, don't take this the wrong way, but when I glanced at the thumbnail the character looked like she had buckteeth or something and my brain had to *triple* check to realize: "No... it's just a line she put on top of the lips..." Love your work and happy birthday!
What red pencil did you use for the underdrawing?
I think it might be a prismacolour col-earase
My friend gave me a halfpan of White Nights. I like the color, but it feels so... I don't know, like a glue? Does White Nights have glue binder like Gansai Tambi paints?
it uses gum arabic, was the pan your friend give you new?
Please tell me what brush you are using for the creation of the portrait. thank you :)
I know this is kind of an old video now, but maybe someone can help ^^
I am currently looking for watercolors and there are so many brands on the market that I feel overwhelmed xD
Can anyone tell me if these watercolors lift easily when dry? Because I like to work in a lot of washes and the arteza watercolors I used did reactivate again and ruined the whole painting =/
So I need watercolors that stay put once they dried... are these any good for this technique?
hi, i don't know if this would be of much help since i don't know of any WCs that are known for lifting abilities but the sets i own (white night, van gogh and shinhan) have no problems lifting after they are dry.
@@tarostartic8833 thank you so much!
I want to buy the whole set but I’m not sure which brand is better pls help if u know
Id say they are more of a cheaper alternative, check their website for lightfastness info
Anyone know what brushes are used?
Kat said to tell you happy birthday. So... HAPPY BIRTHDAY! 😸
Happy birthday 💖💖💖
Thank you so much!!! ;-;
How long will they last ??
if i remember correctly, you have kids, right? a fun "challenge" might be like drawing/painting what your kids have drawn or painting whatever they tell you to or an imaginary animal or something
whitenights or vangogh watercolor ?
They are both excellent. Replacement full pans of White Nights are cheap at jacksonsart.com, and shipping is very cheap. It is hard to find replacement half-pans for the Van Gogh, but tubes are widely available in the US at cheap joes, jerry's artarama, and blick. But whichever brand is easiest for you to get.
Very Nice! 좋은 내용입니다😊
At art shop I work at now (in Poland) they are quite popular :) I haven't tried them yet myself but I am willing to give them a try. What other watercolors would you recommend?
Твои видео прекрасны для изучения английского 🤤
I wonder, why people like them, when painting something special or more than just scatches is rather hard with those? so staining and hard to control. I must say, I am not happy hawing these. they now lay around, and every now and then, I pull it out just for a single colour to experiment or to try before getting the tube of a better brand. or for painting small post cards, which I rarely do. hm. I am still curious, on if people stick with those, after they tried other ones. and I wonder, why. the colours might be vibrant. but when painting with them is so hard..?
Hiii! this is so late, but Happy birthday!!
Happy birthday :-) :-) :-) :-)
I wish I could paint like this but I just can't rip
david bryan why, thank you.
I read the title and thought you were going to draw the fedora guy.
Hello fun fact they use ox spit in their colors.
