CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Tired of being a "robot" and living in Rocky's (Sylvester Stallone) shadow, Tommy (Tommy Morrison) challenges him to a fight.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Touted upon its release as the finale of the Rocky saga, this fifth entry in the long-running series of sports dramas reunites star Sylvester Stallone with John G. Avildsen, director of the Oscar-winning original. Stallone is Rocky Balboa, suffering from career-ending brain damage as a result of his punishing bout with Ivan Drago at the finale of the previous film. Upon their return to Philadelphia, Rocky and his wife, Adrian (Talia Shire), discover they are broke, their fortune squandered by an incompetent accountant. Forced to move back to their working-class neighborhood, Rocky finds that his only asset is the run-down gym willed to him by Mickey (Burgess Meredith, who appears in new flashback sequences). Resisting big money offered to him by Don King-like boxing promoter George Washington Duke (Richard Gant), Rocky becomes a trainer and finds a talented comer in Tommy Gunn (real-life boxer Tommy Morrison, nephew of John Wayne). You have to give respect to Paulie, who not only stood up for his Brother-In-Law, but also took a clean left punch from a Boxing Heavyweight.
Agreed. Paulie would stomp your average joe.
Except Paulie is the one who instigated the fight. He told Rocky to walk away and Rocky did. Paulie is the one that talked back and pushed Tommy.

like Don King used his fighters?
I completely agree. He goes from idolizing Rocky to distancing himself from him and not thanking him after winning the title from Cane to hating his guts pretty quickly. I think the problem was that the script was trying desperately to give audiences a reason to hate him without earning it through decent character development.

The first time we see a dark side to Rocky's character (and his years growing up fighting on the streets). "try knocking me down now..." That line is chilling. Rocky was uninterested in the challenge, the second Tommy hurt someone he cares about. His demeanor changed like a switch. Superbly acted by Stallone.

You knocked him down, why don't you try knocking me down now....classic 😂😂
Stallone actually admits Rocky 5 shouldn't have been made the way it was, because basically after what he went through in 3 and 4, he ended up right back where he started.
Def Blinders but it was Stallone who's got more pressure
Well Stallone wrote the script so this movie is like it is because the way he wrote it.
Def Blinders what exactly did he go through in 3-4??
Money, fame, championships, death of his mentor and then his best friend.
tvmoviefan yeah he did go through a lot but when it came to fighting he never gave up because through it all Mick and Apollo was always with him in spirit to see nothing but a tiger within him.
Such an iconic line in cinema, "you knocked him down, why don't you try knocking me down now" crazy thing is to these actors it's just another line

“My rings outside”👍🏽
2:45 - maybe one of the most badass lines in movie history.
Good thing Donnie was never like this.
Leo Lim don king
+Leo Lim probably not yet
Who is Donnie?
Pat Booy Apollo creeds son from Creed
Leo Lim hey i'm Leo too lol...
But Donnie can never diss Rock cuz he was his dads true friend. So that makes Rocky the father he never had. Its why he was devastated when Rocky told him they werent family. That alone nearly caused Donnie to spiral- he had no family!
“ my ring is outside “ .......... greatest line ever in the entire rocky series. Maybe the best of all fight movies. The Creed movies included. The ending of this movie is the best of all the series. I like how he fought only for honor and pride in the neighborhood. God bless Pauli for standing up for his friend once again. He made up for losing all of the rocks money. Rocky wins the most honorable win of his life. The stakes were his honor , his friend , his love for Mickey and the neighborhood that he came from.
It's a great line no doubt and the one just before it "You knocked him down, why don't you try knockin me down now" is just as good. However, there are some other great ones. Rocky yelling "Drago" at the top of the mountain in IV, the original classic of him yellin Adrian's name at the end of the first Apollo fight and not caring about the results, In III the "Go For It" line hasn't aged quite as well but it was huge at the time, but the "You ain't so bad" line over and over to Clubber Lange is great, but my personal favorite that gets me every time is at the end of II when he holds up the belt and says "Yo Adrian, I Did It" The combo of the Yo Adrian, which is him emphasizing he's still just same ol Rocky and a reminder to her how he spoke to her when they first met, and the I Did It, as cliche as that line is, it's not in the context of the film because you know all he went through in both films to get to that point.
This incarnation of the Rocky series really does expose how certain athletes can be manipulated into making really bad decisions for their careers...
Being a professional athlete is about respect and how you earn it, your talent comes second to that by a long way... I love this scene and the ending that follows it because it sends that message beautifully
00:30 Naw guys this aint no pie eating contest...
