      I always wished in this final scene, they'd show flash backs of Daniel unleashing on Johnny, his friends and The Chozen in one clip and then finally remembering all the killer moves he learned of the past and then utterly destroying Barnes. It just needed more. Climax needs to be a true Climax. There was so much they could have done. It's like Daniel forgot everything he learned. Come on Daniel! Avildsen himself said 3 is bad. He rushed it, and hated the script. It was more for the money and to get it out because it was due for a sequel.

    • @Zurround
      @Zurround 8 місяців тому +16

      I posted on other threads that if the actor was alive it would STILL be better for his character to be dead from a story standpoint both because its realistic (the character was older than the actor I think) and also because dealing with the loss of his mentor is a great part of Daniel's character development. If the actor was still alive then dreams, flashbacks or hallucinations etc could be used for him. Similar to how "Koba" died in the 2nd of the new Planet of the Apes movies and still appeared several times in the 3rd movie (or Obi Wan in Star Wars).

    Mr. Miyagi's shout is meant to yank Daniel out of despair. It made him a receptive student. The bow he gives his teacher is a thank you. Daniel does this particular kata to distract Barnes. His final position is a trap, patiently waiting for any attack. Barnes is forced to come in blindly, and Daniel simply flips him. I find this ending fits with the others. When Daniel is forced past his fears, the way to defeat his opponent becomes simple. Miyagi saying that he must not lose to fear is an understatement. The kata is really a centering technique, a gathering of all focus, energy, and willpower. They think he's crazy, but he's just calm. Great stuff.

      Spot on analysis. Plus Daniel had controlled anger for the first time in the fight.

    • @jasonmcgrath1529
      @jasonmcgrath1529 23 дні тому

      @michaelgowcharan783 Thank you. Yes, this was a real harsh lesson for him. He was betrayed by a false teacher, like his earlier opponents. He's so lucky to have a teacher who takes him back. The teacher/student dynamic really hit darker areas because now Daniel turns on his own teacher. When he yells at Miyagi, you can see how hurt he is by it, and it breaks my heart every time. It's a tough watch because Daniel is facing people who are unrepentant in their evil, and there's three of them. He's so lost here, and Miyagi is too. I'm glad Daniel retrained and went back to his roots, which is what the bonsai tree represents. Not just a tree in the shop, but a strong tradition Miyagi brought with him. I saw this in the theater when I was 14, and I remember the end of the 1980s having a kind of cynicism along with it. Terry Silver and John Kreese are the embodiment of this. How Silver mocks Miyagi is despicable, and Barnes is a great example of how a ruthless warrior can become a champion. I like to think of him as Johnny without repentance.

    • @hla0roo
      @hla0roo 22 дні тому +1

      Call me crazy, but I rather think the Kata is also intended to mock Barnes. The notion is, "I'm not afraid of you anymore. That makes you weak. I'm not even taking you seriously." The key issue in this scene is that Daniel's fear is stronger than Barnes' Karate. Once the fear is gone, win or lose, the fight is over.

    So He fought Chosen to Death, in Okinawa, and then went back home, and chickened out against a guy that chosen could destroy in a heartbeat? That’s what I hated about this movie. You’d think after having fought for his life in Okinawa, against a true Karate master he’d go on the third one to take on a challenge where the stakes are higher, with a more dramatic arc, but fighting in the All Valley championship again… and with no fighting evolution after the experiences of the first 2. What a disappointment. I can’t stress enough how much I hated this movie. Pat Morita and Ralp Macchio were great, but the writing…. Absolutely lazy.

Larusso is already a few months out of high school, and Barnes is hopping around on his own fighting in tournaments across the country and entering legally binding contracts with shady millionaires. Same with Daniel and Mr. Miyagi with the tree business. Kinda doesn't make sense. Wouldn't they both have to at least be 18 to do that?!!

    Fun fact: In Cobra Kai season 4, Terry paid the ref for Tory to beat Sam. Since Mike Barnes didn't get disqualified in this scene, it's likely Silver paid the ref in kk3 to prolong Daniel's suffering. He even says "Remember the game plan" which implies that this was all planned out. The fact Daniel was able to beat Barnes even with the paid ref against him amazes me. It's even better to see Daniel punish Mike for the racist slurs he shouted before sudden death. I couldn't stand hearing those insults. They made me upset.

      It gets a lot of hate for being terrible but I did like it. I think the movie would have been even better if instead of ONLY the final match Daniel had to fight his way to the top like the previous year. Had that happened the final scene could have been filmed the EXACT same way without any continuity issues I believe.
      Barnes being so over confident even AFTER seeing Daniel beat all of his opponents would especially make him seem scary.
