In reality Rocky would have been knocked out or dead within 1-3 rounds the same with Apollos son when he fought Dragons son in Creed 2 and im a big fan of Rocky.
I hope its not disrespectful to say that i know the man only as Apollo Creed. Still he is part of my childhood watching American movies and seeing the great story where enemies become best friends!
I always loved the training montage in this film, the contrast of older techniques vs modern, artificial ways of training for a boxing match - old vs new. The mixture of the filming and the elevation and the crescendo of the music to match what was onscreen was masterful. This is one of my favourite sequences of film of all time and I saw this in the cinema when it was released in the UK - a very special moment for me that I have never forgotten.
Tony’s role in this movie is amazing…all the way from screaming with spit flying out “It’s supposed to be an exhibition”, to “he’s a man not a machine”. Every line the man says is gold.
Drago wins but i think Clubber still hits harder than Drago just from judging Rocky’s first fight against clubber with rocky’s fight against Drago. Look at what clubber did to rocky’s face in rocky 3 in two rounds. His face did not look as bad during the final round against Drago.
IV was the first Rocky movie I ever saw and to this day my favorite by far. Same with ‘Rambo.’ It wasn’t till several years later when I finally saw ‘First Blood’
That crushing right punch by Rocky at the 8:55 mark of the video was a cinematic masterpiece. I remembered the reaction of movie fans inside the theater when watching that movie way back in 1985. Half the audience inside the theater collectively stood up and starting cheering. It was almost if we were all watching a live closed-circuit boxing match at the theater which was a popular feature on watching championship fights back in the day. An old lady wearing a knit sweater sitting in front of us stood up and started shadow boxing during that scene and yelled out loud "Knock his block off!" Fun moments.
Technically it wasn’t a last minute pick, as they rejected Dolph for the role, then after a photo session he did, Stallone called him personally to be Drago.
I was 10 years old when I saw Rocky IV and I couldn't sleep for 3 days because of Drago's character. His role as Rocky's invincible adversary was so successful that I believe he was the main reason why the film was so beloved and had incredible commercial success all over the world.
Man i remember watching this in the cinema, it wasn't just a film it was an event. Everyone was on their feet chanting Rocky, Rocky. and when he won it was like the place erupted. It was good to be a kid then
I remember it well. This is one of my 13 year old son’s favorite movies and I’ve often told him how exciting it was to not know how it ends. To have the real possibility that Rocky could lose as the impetus for the excitement
Rocky realistically, would’ve been killed by Drago. Apollo may have been older but Rocky and him had a lot in common as fighters. The difference is Stallone being older and getting Hulk Hogan style strength to gain victory over his opponents. Mr.T’s fight on the other hand was just as a dominating performance for Rocky the 2nd time around.
That's the whole point of the rocky movies, He may not have been the best fighter via clubber lang and drago but he was known to take a beating, That's how he beat his opponents, He took a beaten, tired out his opponents then beat them
The reach advantage Drago had over Rocky would have been decisive even if he wasnt so powerful. Rocky's only option would be to get to work inside it but even there all Drago has to do is fold those long limbs up to block or cage him.
@@brettsoyars4341 nope. However, her and Stallone were married at the time this came out. They divorced in 87, a year after her and Stallone starred in "Cobra"
Rocky's son is watching the fight aged about 12 in Rocky IV. When returned from Russia in Rocky V, he is 3 or 4 years older. Either Rocky liked Russia too much or the boy got that happy for his father's victory that got 4 years older within just some days!
The timelines never made sense. Rocky 4 was supposed to be 3-4 years after 3. But Rocky and Apollo had their private fight right before Rocky 4 begins.
Dolph Lungren actually looks like he knows how to fight…..Carl weathers also look pretty good in his fight scenes too, but you could tell he wasn’t a boxer. Dolph was a karate world champion and had experience in multiple martial arts so he is the most believable. Stallone also a great athlete but he makes the fight scenes too unrealistic for me, getting constantly smashed in the face, should’ve shown some slipping and dodging in the choreography imo.
Drago would have destroyed Stallone I agree it’s very unrealistic how Stallone could withstand his punches let alone Apollo creed. Mind you he did put Stallone in hospital as he wanted the fight scenes to look realistic. In an interview he said he was hit by dolph that hard that he said he felt like he was hit by a car impact caused swelling to his heart he was in intensive care for two weeks.
Funnily enough, I think I read somewhere stating that the Rocky character is based on Rocky Marciano, an old boxer known for using his face to block attacks. Dude is incredibly resilient
That's quite a moment when Drago realises upon being cut by Rocky and subsequently pummelled that Rocky is a serious threat and how having taken Apollo out so quickly, his underestimation of Rocky was a serious mistake.
