These two never get enough props. They were light years ahead of their "peers" in that grungy early 90s era. Their skill as musicians was incomparable. They wrote classics too. Interstate Love Song blew my mind back in '94. I knew it was a classic from the get go. Hootie was covering it within a year or two. They both come off as genuinely good people. And they loved Scott immensely.
hey: respecto: but wait: which 'two' were you referrin' to, if you don't mind my askin', of course? and 'hootie' wasn't a guy, dude, any more than 'van' was a guy, in the so-called 'halen' band... of course i probably don't have to tell you that... but why drag the blowfish into this: and by the way, i think the drummer of 'hootie's was the actual blowfish: or it might've been that guitar player in the band: he definitely blew-like-a-hurricane, man, am i right??
@@Neuroguitarist I totally agree man! I've said it so many times how underrated he is! He has such an interesting ear for weird but amazing note choices! Love everything about it!
He always writes great parts...has great tone and keeps things interesting. His playing always serves the song too...its not just flash. Definitely an underrated player
met Robert outside his studio in approx 2002, he came up to my car when i was parking about to go into my friends practice studio, i handed him our demo cd and he was so warm and graceful with a huge smile, really a great guy ... stp one of the best of all time will live forever
On a cold winters night in Toronto about 12 or 13 years ago, Dean and Robert DeLeo walked into the Cameron House. On the outside it looks like a high-profile venue, but on that night it was an empty Open Mic Night
This might be the funniest interview I’ve seen in a long time! Nice to see the rapport he has with the Deleos & how they embrace & riff off Steve’s dry humor.
I'm wondering whether I'm thinking that Jonesy is the most enjoyable interviewer I've ever listened to. So laid back and unforced. Jonesy's got the good stuff!
Always knew the DeLeos sandbagged until the right times. They both have chops in spades, and that's what really keeps them 'in the room'. Plus, anyone who noodles Holdsworth in an arena before showtime automatically gets a pass for life.
Nice improvising there Dean, you guys are the best. I truly hope you're able to get back up on your feet again and sell out arenas and festivals soon! Thanks for putting such an amazing re-issue together for "Core", I hope to see the other albums done the same way! Much love!
BEAUTIFUL GUITAR WORK, FELLAS! I am genuinely impressed...no wonder Robert didn't come in with some vocalizations (although he very well could have -- he's a terrific singer)...that kind of guitar beauty needs no other voice. Just, wow, guys. For some improv "noodling," it's just stellar stuff. I want a CD copy of this. Yes, take Steve out on the road with you, DeLeo bros!
I liked the interview, although I'm not fluent in English... STP is the best group of the 90's. My favorite member is Robert. I love Robert🥰, He has a nice smile and a nice voice and a great bass player.
God, I love and admire Steve Jones! He is a trooper. a winner a great guy! From a junkie strung out on smack to a gainfully employed lover of life. What is not to love?
Heard this live. Was blown away . They played a lot more than what’s here, but thank you for posting this. If you get a chance check out Trip the Witch. A record Dean did with Tom Bukovac.
this is one of the most beautiful and genuine interviews I have gotten to watch in I don't know how long...how cool. Awesome noodling too, does everyone call it that?
5:49 - Totally. In one of their live videos Scott’s singing Vasoline into the camera with his hair bright red and I’m thinking yeah that’s a huge John Lydon thing he was into.
Its really good to hear the position the brothers took on Scott.Yes, what a talent. I grew up with brothers and a dad and other people who were attics. I tried to join the attic thing to be part of. That didnt work out so well. Its painful to see talented loved ones destroy themselves before ones eyes. They would usually wanted me to join them in self destruction. The codependency thing is real and its nice to here that the Deleos are real dudes, talented to the extreme, who cared so much for these guys. But they didnt join the insanity to keep STP original. That must have been real tough to let go of. Best to ya Boys.
At first I didnt notice it but if you look closely he's doubled strunfed the two lowest keys and obviously is using an open tuning method like brian may always uses
Stellar Noodle climbed out of her bathroom window onto the roof of her house. From here she could see clear across the known world, and it all finally made sense. She could see the connections and, more importantly, the way out.

What do you mean? They were the biggest band around at one time. They had tons of radio play and several hit singles. What more do you want?
dean is definately an underrated guitar player. one of the best.
There are probably millions of players here on youtube who are technically more capable. But he's one of my top favourite players!
@@Neuroguitarist I totally agree man! I've said it so many times how underrated he is! He has such an interesting ear for weird but amazing note choices! Love everything about it!
Feel is the most important element. He's got that.
Underrated the perfect word for the stupids
He always writes great parts...has great tone and keeps things interesting. His playing always serves the song too...its not just flash.
Definitely an underrated player
Dean is one of the finest guitar players from the 90's. He is up there.
Cantrell, McCready, Gossard... the list goes on
@@christianhustad7055 Dean is greater than all of em IMO
Dean is underrated and Rob is criminally underrated. Rob is one of the best bass players of all time.
They're not 'underrated'.
Sick of reading that term.
They're perfectly rated...just not to BILLIONS of people.
@@educateme8455 nope, they have millions of fans but with the music they put out they deserve tons more recognition

I bet it went in a bin with the others?
So nice seeing the DeLeo brothers both so happy, healthy and loving life!! Best of luck on the Core anniversary re-release!!
Dean DeLeo, wow love his playing, he creates an stp show with an acoustic!
one of the coolest and creative guitar players outta the 90s hands down
right, a nice noise.
All this talk of Dean. Robert is a force. STP basslines are killer and he wrote a lot of the songs.
Yes, just like Geezer and Sabbath.
Music soothes the soul. It's like a deep inhale and a slow exhale to cleanse you soul from a heaviness. Beautiful.
That's some nice combinations of words. Beautiful.
Dean's laugh makes me laugh and his playing just takes me to another place!!! Robert - so damn talented!!! Lookin good! Kretz kicks ass!!! ♥️ STP!!!!!
Absolutely agree! 👍
Beautiful leads from Dean. Real style and soul.
Wow. That noodling is something else. Dean is so underrated. I'm addicted. I want more!

Dean is one of the very Top Guitarists ever .
Two of my most favorite musicians. Wish them the best, they've been thru a lot. Always loved the random jams during sets
Fine guitar/bass combo the DeLeo brothers. STP was a breath of a different kind of air that was really welcome back then.
Cy Brunel and WELCOME NOW!
Still is. Love this Band. I really like Deans guitar work.
Dean is soooo good. Very underrated
Class act, the DeLeo brothers. Great, laid back conversation.
Beautiful acoustic jam!!
the jam is amazing...
That noodling is so relaxing to listen too. Nice job.
Dean is a flat out stud

That acoustic bit is the greatest
Love the Deleo bros. love Steve Jones , some nice playing, some good stories, everything's good🙃
Robert, Dean, and Jonesey = class acts with talent, grace, character, and heart. So much of that is missing in most of today's modern performers.
Always knew the DeLeos sandbagged until the right times. They both have chops in spades, and that's what really keeps them 'in the room'. Plus, anyone who noodles Holdsworth in an arena before showtime automatically gets a pass for life.
Damn, that noodleing was really damn good!
God I love these two!
Love these guys. That jam...
Dean is putting so much STP Melody into this it is so good. Both are talented, just jamming
I love you guys. Good to see you. CORE25!

This is why I love Dean's playing soo much. In some ways here's better on an acoustic guitar than an electric.
That was a beautiful jam.My mum loves you Steve and I was born in Queen Charlottes too.👍

12:39 Dean: "just get that microphone by your hole"..... Steve: "excuse me?" LOL
I almost came in with "another rainy night in Georgia"
Thank god you didn't/ You'd have blown it...
Gold...
Dean looks like the love child of Freddy Mercury and Joe Perry
Nice
His brother is Hunter Thompson Jr. with those shades on and his choice of hat

tinfoilhatter Sex Pistols guitar player.

Love the playfulness of these 3. Lotta love there. So cool #longliveSTP #ripSW
Stone Temple Pilots....90s Gold
These guys really came out strong with core. It kept the grunge seen alive. Dead n bloated blew my mind hearing it for the first time.
One of the best episodes, De Leo's are incredible
whoa...i had no idea this guy played like this....this is fantastic stuff
Just ordered my copy of Core; can't wait!
damn, robert de leo needs to start singing more often

Great jam session

DeLeo brothers are awesome. Seem like great down to earth dudes. ✌🏻
Two of the nicest people I've ever met.
Love the way Dean plays man.
always 1st class steve
I never noticed how good of a guitarist Dean is.
jdessell One of the best.
Me either till a couple years ago but damn he's a beast and a beaut. It's just easy to get overshadowed by one of the best vocalists of our time.
I really liked the Talk Show album. Great stuff there.
Check the Army of Anyone album for more great Dean playing, there is also some acoustic stuff out there on the interwebs
HOW COULD YOU HAVE NOT NOTICED? WHAAATTTT HES SO GODDAMN GOOD
Dean never gets the credit he deserves
Great jam there!
So cool. Real deal 100%
Rock needs to be central to our culture again
damn that acoustic jam was really smooth
don't know if its just me . but Steve seems to get so much out of his guests , its like a casual chat between musicians. always great stuff

Great jam, beautiful melody there!
Man... Dean rocks
i love this.
I went to that concert at Castaic Lake cuz I was and still am a valley boy to the core no pun intended that was the Core Tour. That was a blast!
Wow, Dean! Amazing jam. What's the name of the song? This should be in the millions of views.
the acoustic piece was really great for an impromptu jam.
awesome
Two cool dudes, not trying impress anybody, just hanging out and keeping it real. Not to mention amazing musicians!
Very pleasant guys Robert and Dean, class act. Decent guys that's what counts!!!
Kinda surprised there isn't an acoustic bass laying around the studio...oh well, excellent playing between Dean and Steve!! Dean has awesome hair!!
I love stp so fkn much !!! Miss Scott God I wish he lived , dah but I really love this fucking Band people
Best noodling session I've seen , besides Hanson.
Fucking Awesome!!!
Scott brought the charisma and so much talent to this band; right now they need a miracle to replace Weiland.......
cheranguista He also brought a lot of disfunction to the band too, hopefully that will get replaced.
Scott is irreplaceable..
I saw them 10-6-10 w/Jeff Gutt thr new singer, they were outstanding. Mr.Gutt is a very nice fit and they were better than ever.js
Great chemistry
Steve Jones is one of the best hosts I’ve ever heard
Lost for words ❤🙏👍🎶🎵
❤❤❤
Splendid mates.
Incredible ❤️🎸😇
Great musicians. STP had chops and a good vibe.
fucking awesome guitar playing, thanks you
25 years since Core was released????? FUCK I"M OLD!!
JAHBLESS SOULJAHZ ROCKERZ....
At first I didnt notice it but if you look closely he's doubled strunfed the two lowest keys and obviously is using an open tuning method like brian may always uses
Nothing like a nice vintage Gibson acoustic. :) I'll never sell mine!
I hear ya, dude-totally agreed.
yeah but can ya play that?
F*ck that Dean can play... Loving it.
Undeniable Talent'
Beautiful licks aswell

Robert when core just came out I made this girl believe I was you from the pic on the cd 😂😂tough looking like us
S T P an excellent band 😁
I think Scott had a bit of Thin White Duke in him as well at times, as well as Morrison and Lydon, Iggy
Hello Steve :) love this interview as love you and the DeLeo's x see u on insta
Great jam.. :-)
