I remember when this album came out. People kept saying they were a Pearl Jam ripoff. The reality is that this band is vastly superior to Pearl Jam and they don't sound like them anyways.
Agreed. The De Leo brothers are vastly superior in terms of musical knowledge and musicianship, listening to and absorbing everything from early metal, 80s british alternative, 60s british invasion rock, 70s glam/ hard rock, punk, then the further you get into their music knowledge, you'll see that they listened to Brazilian jazz, bossa nova, 60s/70s american country, pop, etc..You can clearly hear those influences in all the little nuances of their playing, in Scott's vocals and look, and the over all sound of the original 4 line up. Pearl Jam, especially Eddie Vedder, are more into the folky/blues rock, Neil Young, and other more straight forward, far less experimental type of rock. STP have changed their sound on almost every album while retaining their signature sound, just as Zeppelin did. This is why there is no comparison.
So true. STP had such diversity of great songs, Pearl Jam has a lot of great songs, but you can’t listen to many of them in one sitting, they all sound too similar
Fender Tremolo They *absolutely* do. They aren’t necessarily linked but some of the best creativity comes from the sharpest minds...anyone who doubts that is crazy
I know. I saw them here in Nola for Voodoo in 08. They played for 3 hours and I realized when Scott said somewhat jokingly " We got the hits motherfucker!" That damn, they been playing 3 hours and its been all these Huge hits that are pretty good. Then to think all these awesome songs that weren't singles or songs that weren't even released that were so good.
The Flayed Man yeah same here dude but I think I wore both of them out almost equally lol but I actually had the Nirvana CD and I had the core tape... honestly I find this weird but I kind of miss tapes..?? Something felt good about going to the music stores and buying tapes and CDs I miss that shit!
its ridiculous to even begin to compare nevermind and core, stone temple pilots and nirvana have about zero similarities musically....i have to say that both bands had a similar deep impact on me and i still listen to both bands constantly. i think tiny music was stp's best album personally!
These three men are some of the greatest musicians and songwriters of all time. Incidentally it was their work on the Talk Show album that hit me hardest. Just incredible.
Those two albums sound so FAT! Kretz' control at pulling back the slow tempos is incredible. 'Plush' for example. Listen to where his snare falls. Way behind the beat. Great feel and amazing Ludwig Black Beauty snare sound!
This made me cry. I love hearing STP talk about Scott. It’s just hard. Emotional listening to this. Scott loved you all very much. Being a fan I could see this. Don’t ever doubt it. Thank you STP for the best memories of my life. You’ll always be my favorite band.
Robert is one of the reasons i picked up the bass 30 years ago and started playing again these last few months.. freshmen years of high school when core came out . Sounds dumb to say but that album still effects my life today I listen to it daily.
Please release a box set with the unreleased Shangri La Dee Da documentary and all the unreleased material/b-sides and Mighty Joe Young recordings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Core is one of the albums that made me. STP has been epic since then. Robert is the reason I love the bass and I model my vocals after Scott. I listen to this cover to cover on a regular basis to this day
Finally, someone speaking on Scott's talent and how he used to be back in his prime. Thank you! Any other interview on youtube where any of the bandmates get into this topic?
ALL THREE of these guys are Sweet-Hearts! And Robert DeLeo is so very Thoughtful--"Thought-Full"... I could listen to him--or All Three--talk All Day/Night... :)
as im watching this, i realize that i was one of those critics back in the day. I never really gave them the time of day but then around the time of scotts demise, i listened to all the albums for some reason and realized that i missed a gem of a band. Im sorry that i never gave these guys a chance in the 90's and 00's.
Started listening to STP back in 1999 after hearing a friend play them on his Panasonic mini hi fi system. I think the first STP song i heard was Plush or Interstate Love Song. Sad how Scott left this earth but he will live on in the music STP and Velvet Revolver recorded with him. Core is such a great heavy record. The record helped me through a few break ups with gfs that ive gone through. Just the heavy guitars pounding drums and smooth and rough vocals all blend together to make this giant sound.
Such an amazing band. I was lucky enough to see them live several times in the 90's and every show was great. I wish things had worked out with them, but anyone who has ever had a close relationship with an addict knows how difficult it is.
Core stands out as the best album of the 90's, in terms of wearing out the tape(s). The Chord change in Plush "Where you going to tomorrow" EMaj7 - F is so much the sound of STP, like how sweet that change is. just perfect.
Saw them just after they released CORE. My brother got tickets to watch them open for Megadeath at Towson State University. The concert was on my 21st bday.
Love that they love and grew up listening to Yes! I got to see them on my birthday! I turned 19 in 1985 and I simply loved yes! Later in 2002 New Years Eve bash I got to see stop and just like Yes they were so tight live! I’ve seen at least 120 some odd bands and live those two and maybe early Megadeth and black label society and Dio all top 5. No particular order cause it doesn’t matter! But to hear that level of quality live is so rare!!!!
When MTV just played nirvana my cousin had bought soungarden and AIC cd's. Also he had core. I played the others haphazardly but I played Core from beginning to end and I didn't forward any of the tracks because every track held my attention. Musically and vocally it may just be the best album from the 1990's for me.
To me you guys were the f****** doors of the 90s I was a senior in high school in Huntington Beach I worship the doors music and I wished I could have been in Stone Temple Pilots thank you guys for all the great music
Robert and Dean are nearly the best bass and guitar duo to ever do it. Hopefully they actually come to understand that at some point. The melody and harmony between these two are on a total different level.
Thank you boys for doing this interview. I never get tired of hearing you guys talk about the band from years ago (and even current news but it’s such a treat to hear about the origins and stories from a while ago). Scott will always have a special place in my heart, we have way too much in common - more than I’d like to admit. But anyways - I know when the 4 of you were working, pure magic was made. I loved that Atlanta video you guys did when Scott passed. Beautiful song and your insights were respectful and so heartfelt. Thank you guys for making the soundtrack to my life and doing this interview. I’d love to see more and would buy a box set in heartbeat. I love how the thank you dvd set had rare(ish) footage! I’d love to see the Shangri la footage!!!
Can’t wait for the Analogue Productions 45 RPM versions of Core and Purple to come out! The sound coming out of my speakers will melt my face off!! Can’t wait!!
I love that Jim Morrison comparison and that Robert has a relationship with Robby and John, Soctt and Jim had such a similar fate. Both really great writers with powerful voices and a theatrical stage presence, both poets and rockstars to the fullest extent.
The best band of my generation Iam 52 now.well I would be the same just a month younger than Scott Weiland god rest him and good luck to the band moving into the future
Thank you so much for the honesty with which you assessed the situations with Scott. What is that saying, "Some men you just can't reach." I miss Scott, the good Scott, and Chester and Chris C. immensely. I cannot imagine what it must be like for you guys. I am glad you are moving forward and we hope you find the perfect fit for STP. And again, thank you for expressing the reality of the situation and helping us understand how bad it was getting and how much so many people tried to help Scott. We love you guys and appreciate the richness your music has given our lives over the years. Peace out. Rock on. Lisa fr. Texas
What they've gone through now has to suck so bad. I really hope they can hold it together and keep on. They've made amazing music before, they can do it again! I believe in you!

Two of the best of their era in my opinion…

Absolutely agree. STP crushes Pearl Jam, Big Time
You can tell that Robert is a lot of the “intellect” in the band. Makes sense given how much of the music he wrote.
Intellect and song writing have zero connection.
Fender Tremolo
They *absolutely* do. They aren’t necessarily linked but some of the best creativity comes from the sharpest minds...anyone who doubts that is crazy
@@fendertremolo9793 idk about that man lol
I think Robert is an intelligent and cultured guy
The catalogue the Pilots have is crazy.
Quality songs in abundance.
The playlist of dreams!

Something felt good about going to the music stores and buying tapes and CDs I miss that shit!
They both were important albums but Core was flawless.
its ridiculous to even begin to compare nevermind and core, stone temple pilots and nirvana have about zero similarities musically....i have to say that both bands had a similar deep impact on me and i still listen to both bands constantly. i think tiny music was stp's best album personally!
Sir Babz You are not alone in that department!!
I love Nevermind. I enjoy Core, but Purple was their best album in my opinion. Much more diverse then Core.
These guys played the soundtrack of my youth. Forever love to STP.
BucksCoHare Amen! Same here
You and me both my friends...... core and purple will always be on my top list
Let’s start a band😆
And the soundtrack of my old age too. 60 y.o right around the corner 🥳
Absolutely. I was 11 when this came out. I ordered it from BMG music.
Core was literally the first CD I ever laid hands on to call my own. Changed my life forever.
For me it was Bobby Brown, then Ten, then Core. But Core was by far my favorite. I couldn’t put it down.
mine too
It’s a beautiful thing to see these guys talking about the past and Scott with such nostalgia and wisdom.
The bass player is real talent behind this band. He wrote all their hit songs.
drummer wrote part of trippin on a hole
Nah. Dean wrote tons of their songs. Liner notes bruh..
a massive smile, cheek to cheek hearing the lads talk about Scott, miss him so much.
CyPha SaRin heartbreaking. Can't believe I live in a world without Scott Weiland.
Mike C He’s here, Mike..
In my heart.
Core was one of the best albums of all time!!!! From start to finish it's a masterpiece!! R.I.P. Scott Weiland,,,wish you were here!!!
The DeLeo brothers and Eric are awesome. Hugely talented musicians. Together with Scott STP were a force to be reckoned with.
Eric just doesn't get enough credit. He was the perfect drummer for STP and a great songwriter.
These three men are some of the greatest musicians and songwriters of all time.
Incidentally it was their work on the Talk Show album that hit me hardest. Just incredible.
I know right!!! That album is so underrated
Core is a classic album.
robert is one of the most underrated bassist
Some of the nicest guys around. Such an amazing band.
Core and Purple are easily two of the best albums ever made.
Those two albums sound so FAT! Kretz' control at pulling back the slow tempos is incredible. 'Plush' for example. Listen to where his snare falls. Way behind the beat. Great feel and amazing Ludwig Black Beauty snare sound!
I love EVERYTHING the Deleos put out!

Man, these Yahoo interview clips with STP are awesome. Very candid, and they were able to just talk. Really heartfelt stuff.
Core is one of the albums that made me. STP has been epic since then. Robert is the reason I love the bass and I model my vocals after Scott. I listen to this cover to cover on a regular basis to this day
How does this have less than a 100 views? One if my all time favorite bands, amazing insight on an all time great record
Uhhhh... Yahoo?
Courtney Cook touché
Yeah so I'm listenin' to this band called STP?....you've probably never heard of em'...
The views are decent now, you jumped the gun
Thank you STP. All of you.
They are very nice people. Extremely kind and patient. I love these guys!
Love these guys. Very insightful, genuine and great musicians. You are truely missed, brother Scott. R.I.P.
Finally, someone speaking on Scott's talent and how he used to be back in his prime.
Thank you! Any other interview on youtube where any of the bandmates get into this topic?
Don't worry they bash him later in the interview,,,pricks
Daveyboy when did they bash him? Lol
Right. All you seem to hear is about his demise.
I'm 40 years old now. Thanks guys, you deserve all the love of this world!

Robert is a fantastic musician, never makes mistakes when playing bass - very underrated bass player
He’s great, but everyone makes mistakes at some point.
What a difficult interview to give. These guys handled it so well. Robert especially is so well spoken.
I'll never forget hearing Core the first time. Thanks for this interview.

STP is the zeppelin of the 90s
That Core album is incredible all 3 these guys are amazing players and big fans of the band YES another absolutely incredible band who I 💕
Stone Temple Pilots are the best!

Music has a way of bringing you back. Even the smells, as Eric also stated, are there too.
I love core it’s an amazing album
Legendary even. just like Dirt
True! I marginally prefer Purple though. Not an easy toss up!

One of the best albums ever! I love Core. I would love to jam with these guys. Rest easy scott! Tomorrow is that shit day....
No singer from that era could touch Scott 🖤
They won the lottery with Core, but tapped into greatness with Tiny Music and No 4.
What an amazing songwriter Scott was.
Dude love these guys. They did get shit from journalists but they put out some great music and they seem like genuine cool guys
They caught a lot of flack when they came out, but surprise surprise their music became some of the most timeless rock music ever created.
Nice hearing Eric chime in. All the guys are super articulate, mellow and down to earth. I could listen to them talk for hours
Eddie Offord = producer on 311’s first record, the man is a legend who makes legendary records.

Thank you for the music! ❤️
The fact that STP is still not in rock n roll hall of fame is absurd to me.
Ya exactly. ! And when they do, it better just be the 3 of them. (Scott in spirit)
These are great interviews.
Core was their best album. Every song on that album is just so good.
This deserves so much more views
I love these guys!!

One of the first albums I owned. Great record
