Mary Bridget is a rock star! When I saw the whisky in the title and saw her sitting next to you, I knew we were in for a ride.
Thanks Peter.
Hey, a peated whisky was bound to show up sooner or later! I had to go for it or I would have felt silly!!! I’m glad I tried it, but it took forever to get the peat taste out of my mouth!! 🤢
She is the best! We just batch shot the entire month of June. So stay tuned.
You are amazing Mary. Love that you know what you like and don’t like but sacrifice for your brother’s channel.
I am in Vancouver, BC, Canada, so I am not eligible for the give away but I want to express support for this spectacular channel! It's my favourite hands down!! Thanks Peter!!
What a sweet thing to do!!! Thank you! 💓Cheers! 🥃
@@mary-bridgetfasciano9970 Peter is awesome - love you both!! Thanks for the very kind reply Mary Bridget!! 🙂
That is very generous of you. This will go a long way in getting me to the $200 mark in May so I can have 2 winners this month. I appreciate the support and all the kind comments over time you have been posting. Cheers!
@@whiskeyisajourney No worries! Much gratitude for such a fabulous channel!
4:55 had to go back and listen to that again...... classic!!!! 5:19... awesome....
She kills me! Cheers!
From Surprise, AZ: I’m down for the giveaway! By the way, love the vibe your sister brings, and “Whiskey promiscuous,” lol, genius!
Yeah I agree. She brings a different vibe to the channel and it's so much fun having her on. We just batch shot all of the Wednesday videos of June as well. Cheers!
Where I am in NC, I have never seen a Kilkerran...but for just under $100 Uigeadail is pretty hard to beat for a peated whiskey, I appreciate it more every time I try other peated whiskeys and always come back to the Ugi. Same could also be said for the Corry, Port Charlotte 10, and the Octomore!
I am right there with you on all the bottles you mentioned.
Very nice review guys! That stuff is good and not for beginners IMO with time it could give you a lot to discover
I would recommend to use a bit of water although. James Bond drinks Macallan … not peated and so expensive …… there is no perfect world!😂
I think Peter might have Macallan in his collection. I'll have to give it a try. Bonus that it's not peated! Oh! That could be a good segment... The whiskey people drink in movies and on TV!! They drink a ton of whiskey on Yellowstone!
I have been waiting for my Macallans to show up on the wheel. When that happens that will be an interesting review.
I like how grapes were the answer.. whatever you have to do to get her on the shows! You two are great together!
The two of us just finished batch shooting the month of June sip or skip. Stay tuned. How have the samples been?
@@whiskeyisajourney I plan on getting into them this week. I took some days off from drinking and then went to a few wineries with my wife last weekend.
Is your wife a whiskey drinker as well or does she just stick with other stuff?
@@whiskeyisajourney She drinks pretty much anything. She orders Jack and Cranberry when we go out. She enjoys the seltzers and wine as well. I usually have her nose and taste my whiskey when I'm doing blinds cuz she gets great nosing notes.
Nice review you guys! I have this batch 5 and I have to say this is greatly improved by adding quite a bit of water. I don’t know that I would buy another batch 5 but I will definitely buy another Kilkerran Heavily Peated.
I have also heard that this bottle benefits from time as well. At least 6 months. I will put his on the back burner for a while and try it again next year with a little water and time. Kevin...Remind me again where you at. Seattle? Cheers!
Her question at 8:40 is great. Cool video and as always awesome dynamic both of you 👏🏻
Thank you for the feedback on the quality of my questions. How would you have answered it or do you think the same as me?
She has good points and questions and is always fun to have on the channel. I am going to try and get her to batch shoot June in the next few days before our June schedule gets too busy.
@@mary-bridgetfasciano9970 I also struggle little bit with finding the notes from a heavily peated whisky. I used to have a more trained palate, however I moved to other styles. So as Peter said, it’s a matter of time with those aggressive whiskies. Now I enjoy blending some of those peated ones with bourbon or sherry matured expressions.
It took me a few to get to like Lagavulin 16 but now I replace the bottle before I’m out. Pear cherry and bbq is just dominant flavors. I’m working on my pear tolerance. But the 16 will definitely be on my counter. Enjoy!!
I need to have my sister try the Lagavulin and see what she thinks of it.
Terrific video!! Love seeing you both! I am a huge peat head but of course I also love Speyside scotch! This heavily peated Kilkerran Batch 5 is wonderful!! Love it! I don't get band aid but I don't with Laphroaig either. Hmmm. I guess I love the medicinal too! You both rock!! Mary Bridget - please try Lagavulin 16! It was my gateway into peated scotch and actually to scotch in general! Love it and it has about 20 ppm of peat. Quite mild. Delicious!! You are both hilarious and lovely! Wish I could take part in the whisky draw!! 🙂 Cheers! Peter!! Try and track down the Lagavulin 11 4th Edition Offerman. The combination of smoke and rum casking is outstanding!! Smoky oysters!! YUP agree Peter - eventually you taste so much beyond the peat! Hey you are both going to do another video! I haven't tried them but apparently oat cakes diminish the whisky you have had before trying another!! Mary Bridget we love that you are taking one for the team! You are awesome!! 🙂
I have my sister for one more video in May. I need to get her over to the house again and batch shoot June. We have a busy schedule in June and will be out of town on 2 or more separate occasions doing some KCBS BBQ events. I see the 4th edition of the Offerman at my local TW. I will seriously think about picking it up the next time I am there. Hopefully it will still be there. Cheers!
@@whiskeyisajourney This sounds fabulous Peter! A batch shoot for June will be awesome and it's so much fun! I hope you both have fun trips planned! Sounds so nice! Hey the KCBS BBQ events sound awesome! I'd try the new Lagavulin! Lol! Cheers Peter!! 🙂
Peat is something I enjoy but not as a constant dram. Kilkeran HP was one I really liked and had a bottle open for about a year until it was down to the last 1/4 of the bottle, so I focused on that bottle to drain it over my next several drams. By the time it was gone I was over peat for a few weeks and I have not repurchased. Mine was batch 8. There is a 9 now.
Love the channel and yes I love the idea of the samples. 5 dollar entry and if there is something that comes up you really want to try add more super chats. I am whisky curious so I am sure there will always be something for me to want to try.
I have a lot of heavily peated bottles that I like more than this and for less money. It's a good bottle, I just prefer others over it. Cheers! Thanks again for the support. Good luck in the giveaway.
Started to love Peat cause it reminding me about my late grandmother and bonfire down with the sea when i was a kid :) That Kilkerran is a Sip It for me :)
I will not argue with that. Memories and experiences play a big roll in what you think of a bottle. Cheers!
Totally. Absolutely...over time and practice peat fades ....sort of.
I started with batch 7 (#6 in the bullpen). It turned into one of my favorite CS peat monsters. $110 is a lot and I'm not compulsively collecting every batch, like Laph10 CS but it's something I'd like to always have around, especially when there's an age statement (and a super inflated price). The availability is not great by me.
I have a few peated bottles in my collection that I like more that are less expensive and more available. It's hard for me to get another bottle of this or a different batch when I reach for the other bottle more and are easily replaced.
@@whiskeyisajourney sounds like we need a showdown. NAS. Peat. Islay vs Campbelltown vs Highland. ... actually the only CS Ardmore I have is a James Eddie 10 year old and it's a Rock-'n'-rolla for about $90.
You're right, though. 110-115 is alot of money. But in perspective Loch Gorm is over $100 and it's only 46%.
The heavily Peated was one and done with me as well. It’s good but not I’ve got to buy every batch good. I got batch 4 for $86ish. It’s now $94 before tax and I’m good with it. I want to compare so hopefully I win the raffle.
I don't feel like I need to chase the batches. I'll wait until this one is gone before I consider getting another one and it will have to be highly rated batch by other reviewers. Cheers!
Thanks!
Always enjoy the content with you guys! Love that I can support the channel too. 👏🏾
Thank you Martin. I have you down for 3 entries in May. Best of luck!
I've got batch 8 and it's beautiful. I'm from the UK and paid around £60 and that's great value. I'm sure you both would enjoy the kilkerran 8 year sherry cask matured. Lovely stuff. 👍🏾😊
I have the CS sherry cask matured and like it more than the CS bourbon cask. Cheers!
Thanks for the great content. Not sure why UA-cam does not seem to allow for an even number. Please add me as a candidate for samples.
I have you down for 2 entries. I think apple does something strange with that amount. So don't worry about the 9.99. It will gets you 2 entries. Best of luck and thanks for the support.
I hear these Kilkerran range are a good alternative to Springbank.. I hope so because I tried Springbank and honestly didn't see the hype or the freaking price ponit at $250 aus$, and the Kilkerran range I can find for $130 $150 aus$..... And do Grapes really cleanse the tastebuds if so great tip.... especially after a peated to a non peated great tip.. Cheers Peter 🥃 👊🥃
I also heard that these bottles of Kilkerran open up after a few months as well. I will come back to the bottle in a few months to see if opens up more. Grapes and crackers work for me to clean out the peat from my palate.
I’m so in for this raffle for May. More interested now that this is in the batch.
Nice. That's what I want to hear from people. When you enter...good luck! By the way you can support the channel by donating to any video in May. You don't have to wait until the end of the month. I batch shot a lot of these videos before I decided to just do it. So the giveaway is now open. Cheers!
Smoke a cigar with it ... that will cancel some of the peat.
That will never happen. I'm not a smoker at all. Unless you count smoking meat. 🤪
@whiskeyisajourney ... it counts in my books. And you know what, could be an awesome pairing experiment. Peaty scotch with smoked meats.
Thanks for opinions. I don't get Scotch, just can't wrap my brain around it. I am open to suggestions for a noob that hasn't had a positive experience with it. (band-aid, that I get)
I would start with a non peated bottle like an Arran 10, Deanston 12, Bunnahabhain 12, or even a GlenAllachie 12. These are all light and fruity. You might also want to try Compass Box Orchard House...that has a little more proof than the others.
Glenmorangie 10 in my opinion is best for new to scotch, Balvenie 12 is great in my opinion
Has your sister tried the Kilkerran 12 year? I started my peat journey with Lagavulin 16. It would be interesting for her to compare the three.
You are the 3rd person to suggest I try the Lagavulin 16. Maybe he needs to create a “peated whisky” First Friday Flight Fight for me. That might be fun! And by “fun” I mean funny to watch!!! Cheers!! 🥃
Good suggestion. I can so a Lagavulin flight fight and see what she thinks.
@@mary-bridgetfasciano9970 Mary, I started my peated journey with "Johnny Walker green label, Lagavulin 16 and Ledaig 10".
I could not stand the smell of the iodine on other scotches, but these three were recommended to me by Roy Duff.
Rob
Which peated scotch's don't have bandaide and iodine note? Ive had Bowmore and hated it.
Ardbeg, Port Charlotte, and Kilchoman are more on the smoked meat flavor profile for me. Lagavulin to some extent as well.
I think the highland peated Meikle Toir and Ardnamurchan don’t have iodine. Nor does highland park.
I've only got the Kilkeren ... Generic Kilkeren.
It beats Springbank based on price alone. It might be generic Springbank but it's good. No?
@@whiskeyisajourney Springbank has a special place in my heart. I don't know why. So does Kilkeren. I could never choose one over the other...
great content! @365daysofsilver sent me across!
Nice! What whiskey brought you over?
