You said you weren’t a cheater, yet you didn’t close your eyes and watched me push out my glass!! I don’t know what you would call it, but I call that cheating!! 😮
It's called being decisive. 😜
I am glad that Mary Bridget is coming into her own as a whisky taster. Honest and to the point. Good job! 🥃
She is coming around. She does not drink whiskey very much or very often. For the amount she does drink I think she is figuring things out quickly and is starting to catalog what she likes and does not like on a constant basis. It is fun to watch the growth. Cheers!
Thanks for the compliment. Baby steps, but I'm on my way. I'm finding there are times I want to reach for a taste of whisky instead of wine....but don't tell anyone! Oh, I'm always honest and to the point. Wait, based on my comment of "don't tell anyone" that takes honesty off the table. 🤣Cheers!
Great blind! Really enjoyed it.
Happy belated birthday! And good luck at the KCBS comp!
Thanks! We are all set up and ready to cook!
Love it when Sis visits! Blinds are fun to watch. I need to do some. I really like the Jim Beam Black 7 Year for a $23 primer bourbon. 🥃
The Jim Beam Black 7 Impressed me finishing second in the blind. I'm trying to get my sister to get on a little bit more than usual. It's summertime for me and I have more flexibility when I can shoot and that means I can be flexible with her schedule as well. Hopefully she'll be making more appearances not just on Wednesday.
The Jim Beam Black 7 is the only one from your blind that I have tasted, and I love it. Great video, Johnny Trigg is the man. I love smoking meats.
Smoking meat is a rabbit hole. So many ways to do something and everyone thinks their way is the best. It can be overwhelming.
So glad that I found your channel, my whiskey journey is only just getting started as I move away from flavored whiskeys and mixers into more traditional bourbons neat and on the rocks. Your insight and experience is very valuable, and these videos with your sister are fun to watch!
Wow! Thank you so much. I have a great time when my sister is on the channel. She adds a lot to the vibe and we have a lot of fun. I hope you continue to enjoy your journey and I have you down for 4 entries for the June giveaway. Best of luck and I appreciate the support. Cheers!
Fun video
Saw the criticism of the reveal. Just a suggestion but I have liked SLB approach where they choose one person and go down the list, bringing the bottles out. Then rearrange to show how the other had a different ranking.
Thanks for the video. Mary, love when you are part of the fun.
I am going to do a Jack Daniel's First Friday Flight Fight for July and the reveal will be better. Now I need to convince Mary-Bridget to participate in the flight. I like how SLB does it. Cheers!
Not a fan of Evan Williams or Larceny...and Elijah Craig has failed a couple of tastings for me. Haven't opened my Jim Beam Black 7 at this point. The older Jim Beam Black was good for mixing...but not a good "sipper". 1792 is also a good mixer. Would be interesting to see how your top 3 compare to the likes of WT 101 (or 86) and Old Forest 100 (or 86) and Makers Mark. Great show...love the honesty and fun commentary! Have fun in California!!! Cheers 🥃
Thanks. Not sure if I'll do another comparison with it, but I'll keep that idea in the back pocket for now. Cheers!
Might as well put in for the June giveaway as well!
Crazy man! I made the executive decision to include this flight into the June giveaway for whoever wins. It will not count toward the 6 2oz samples. I will just include it automatically in the giveaway. Carlos thank you again for your continued support. It means a lot. You are in for 4 entries.
I'm a wheater, so Larceny is my go to. Looking forward to trying JB7
I'm in California for a barbecue competition and Phoenix does not get bardstown Bourbon company and when I went into the Total Wine in California they had their wheated mashbill on the shelf so I had to pick it up and it was delicious! I like wheated bourbons as well.
Fun flight! Happy birthday!
Thank you. Cheers!
I like the 1792 as well.
I miss the Horse Race rankings.
High Balls!
I know. My sister is a juvenile with her humor.
@whiskeyisajourney I guess that makes two of us... I'm humour promiscuous.
When it comes to budget bourbon, seems like I don’t overlap much with either of you! I haven’t had either Jim Beam but among the others, …well honestly, they all fall below my “acceptably enjoyable enough” cut off. But I like the mild nuttiness of Evan Williams and think the 1783 is the best among their bottom shelfers.
After the video was over we talked more about what we drank and even though the flight was decent we decided it wasn't the best.
Happy B-Day Peter and good luck at the BBQ Comp. I'd probably pick EC or 1792, haven't had the new JB B7, reviews have varied.
Thanks! We are currently waiting in line at the site to set up. I'll post the results on Saturday. Cheers!
Nice budget review! That Smell by Lynyrd Skynyrd “the smell of death surrounds you”
My order would be
Elijah Craig
Larceny
1792
Jim Beam 7yr
1783
Jim Beam X aged
Cheers!
As soon as the video was over I looked up the song. Thanks. Cheers!
Glad to know my top pick of 1792 isn’t among the bottom choices of a lot of whiskey drinkers. I guess that means my pallet is starting to change a bit, which is exciting for me! Cheers!
FYI, the shops are all saying that the distributor reps are telling them JB7 is the same juice as the XA (just a label change). I don’t agree with that, and from your blind, it’s different.
I don't see that at all. They taste much different. Thanks for sharing. Cheers
You used day-old tasting notes to make fresh chicken. You probably made the best day-old chicken. Bourbon brine those bad boys. Or, some sort of brine.
I'm not a chef.
I brine. I think my issue is the chicken turns out a touch too salty. We will see how the new method works this weekend.
@@whiskeyisajourney I always cut my salt by half of whatever the recipe states. You can always add more... you may have a harder time taking it out.
I’m not sure yet, but as much as I enjoy banana, in bourbon, ethanol sweetness and banana sweetness overlap a lot for me (again, I think).
Banana maple and cherry is my happy place when it comes to bourbon notes.
You have a typo "Back 7"
I'll get that fixed when I get home from California. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.
Worst reveal ever. Too confusing
I know. It was horrible 😔
