Just from a logical standpoint. What kind of progressive policies do they think will happen under Trump? I myself am an independent and would love to see a strong third party. However right now it is a moral imperative to keep Trump out. And the reality is voting for Biden is our best chance to do this. These people need a serious reality check.

I don't get why he's running at all, because he doesn't have the financial, organizational or human resources of any of the major parties. So why is he doing it? I'd get it if he went through the D primaries and tried to get their nomination. But going 3rd party or independent seems doomed from the start considering the electoral system they have in the US and the domination of the 2 major parties.

Perhaps someone doesn't want to vote for Biden, but they also do not want to vote for tRump. A vote for a third-party benefits neither candidate. However, it does send the message that you are willing to participate and that in the future candidates could earn their vote.
Now, if you wanted to make the argument that not voting is a vote for tRump I'd be willing to listen.

40% of eligible voters don't vote at all. Large portions wouldn't vote for either of the major parties. His campaign is reaching out to the disenfranchised, to citizens who have given up who are fatalistic, cynical and almost nihilistic.
Presenting the idea that Dr. West is a "spoiler" is part and parcel of the ways in which we have such a truncated narrative in place about American Politics. No politician owns any sector of citizenry vote, you got to earn it.

I'm glad I'm not American, so I don't have that choice to make. But I find it alarming in that case that Americans do not take foreign policy into account when casting their vote. I mean, Biden can brag all he wants about his progressive domestic policies, but damn does he have blood on his hands.

My interpretation of Cornel West's campaign is more about providing an alternative to the two-party system where both parties have generally caved into the big donor model of fundraising. I think he understands that he has very little chance of winning the 2024 election, just like Cenk Uygur does. Creating a viable third-party alternative is going to take many years and has to start somewhere, and there is a lot of criticism of the Green Party having become far too bogged-down in inter-party politics to make any more headway.

I love it: "There was too much work to do." If that's a problem, Dr. West, you shouldn't be running at all.

If Cornel West can't be himself in third parties, neither can others! So how are they doing it?
As a child you have the luxury of being able to play with children you like. When you grow up, two things change:
1. You have to work with whoever you have to work with.
2. You have to do work that you don't enjoy.
At first glance this seems terrible, but humans have only made it this far, because we have been able to work with people we don't know or don't like. If we remained children like Cornel West, nothing would get done! No roads, no railways, no airplanes, no electricity, no cars, ... simply nothing that can't be built or done by a handful of people (family, relatives or 10-20 people).

When the Greens formed in the late 1980's in Europe and the US, nobody was really focused on their issues.
In Europe, the Greens were able to influence policies by forming parliamentary coalitions with larger parties such as the Social Democrats.
In America, the Greens chose not to cooperate with the center-left Democrats. They have remained largely irrelevant as a party, though many of their ideas have been coopted by the progressive wing of the Democrats.
So, as a foundry of ideas the Greens have been useful in Western political dialogue. But as a practical political party seeking to control power, they have only been intermittently successful in Europe, and not at all in the United States.

I appreciate that people wish things in the world were different, and that they want the country to go in some different direction. But this is serious. The first priority for all of us should be keeping the Republicans out of power.

Like all 3rd party candidates he has no expectations of winning, he's just trying to be part of the conversation. And to achieve that you have to get your name on the ballot any way you can. If people took 3rd parties seriously they would start attracting better more serious candidates. As it stands it's just a way for people to get themselves interviewed and add their 2 cents into the public discourse. People who vote 3rd party have no expectations their guy will get more than maybe 2% of the vote at most, it's simply our way of giving the middle finger to the establishment. I'll be casting my vote for Dr. West in November if he's on my ballot. Otherwise Jill Stein. Would have been happy to vote for Marianne Williamson but she dropped out.
