    Excellent review. (as a 2 year user) Agree with points. Most important is to take the footage! This does mean, that on your motorbike, bicycle, skateboard, swimming pool, your camera is at risk of damage, scratching, drowning. But you have to be courageous enough to use the camera hard. I am on my 2nd and 3rd X2. I drowned one. It came back to life eventually. I scratched three to the point they can not be used. Google the scary replacement lens DIY videos. I managed that repair. My recommendation is to have 2-3 360's two older ones that you take risky shots, and the newest one for "underwater" and high definition shots. So the new camera should be X4 or X3.

    Holy crap, this is like having two professional video cameramen, and a post-production pro with $100K in equipment. A real weapon in the hands of someone creative. Can't wait to try this slope soaring off the bluffs on Lake Huron with my 16' sailplane.

    This is a really great review, very thorough with great footage and clear simple explanations, thank you.
    I am not an RC'r so seeing all of your uses and the tracking was really cool. It would be nice to see a little b footage of how you mounted it to the RC car (great footage of it on the drone), that footage was awesome and makes me want to do it when I get my X4 🙂
    I have an older X2 and was hesitating on the X3 but will NOT hesitate on the X4, I have scratched multiple lenses so the removable lens guards are a game changer as well as the dive case. 8k and better audio is also awesome. Thanks again for a great review!

    Thanks, Steve for this informative video and wow, you outdid yourself in all the excellent video examples. I had the original Insta360 and used it on my fpv kwads. It seemed to suffer from overheating. It was a disappointment for what I wanted to use it for. The X4 is in a different league though and I may have to reverse my "never insta360 again" opinion. Although, you did mention heating as a con. It's a chunk of change, but I added it to my wish list.

    Great review , 2 quick Questions I scuba dive a lot , so that being said , with the lens protectors on underwater will that effect the image underwater ? and shooting 8K underwater with the full waterproof case at deeper depths is it prone to serious overheating within the case ?

    • @CAPTAINDRONE798
      @CAPTAINDRONE798  Місяць тому +2

      Question 1… the answer is no because you will select underwater and lens protector in the insta360 studio when making a final edit. Question 2… excellent question but unfortunately I don’t know the answer.

  • @JEFFQUICKLE9

    So what we really need is to have you standing over us as we sit at a desk and learn how to edit and stitch together film from one angle or two in the same moment of filming and create a "movie" like they do when the studios, directors and post production crews do for new movies. This is WHY I have not bought one of these 360 camera's! The Mind gets fried trying to figure it all out!

    • @CAPTAINDRONE798

      For me, technology and software is easy, which is why I am on UA-cam reviewing Tech items. Everything is easy once you know how and have some creative energy. I've shown how the editing works in many insta360 videos in the past. Once you know it for one insta360 camera, you can do it for any.

    Hi, I use a GP 8 and a swivel joint on my helmet for inline skating competitions. Do you recommend mounting the X4 directly on a cycle helmet (GoPro Vented Helmet Strap Mount)? Will the weight and high center of gravity be a problem? Thank you.

    • @CAPTAINDRONE798
      @CAPTAINDRONE798  Місяць тому +1

      You’ll certainly get plenty of action shots with the X4. Keep in mind it requires good lighting to work correctly so indoor lighting moving quickly may not work. The X3 is smaller in size and may work better (weight wise) on your helmet.

  • @underthedrone2735
    @underthedrone2735 2 місяці тому +5

    The one thing all 360 cameras lack is GoPro/AcePro/Action4 level image quality IMHO but it's still quite usable (obviously). If this 8K camera makes the final product sharper, clearer, and crisper then it's a winner. What I don't like about the X4 is it's a different size than the X3 which means different batteries, cases, and protective frames for the X3 won't fit the X4. I just bought an X3 six months ago or so. I won't be upgrading anytime soon but I will be watching for image quality comparisons by the reviewer/influencers so that maybe in a year or more I might upgrade. I'm just an amateur and most of my content doesn't get published to the public. The screw on glass protective lens was a needed upgrade for sure. Puluz makes a decent "strap-on" set of glass lens protectors for the X3 but they don't work with any of the available frames unfortunately. As always, another great review. I do look forward to any image quality comparisons you might do in the future for these amazing and versatile cameras.

    Funny how 360 camera's are more and more 'just' used for 'choosing the angle in the edit', and less as, where it original was used for, viewing 'around' with an VR headset. This resolution probably will make that genre more interesting again, I hope.
    I might consider this one.... I still have the 'first' Insta 360 camera, (with that lego like construction, which never took off) but the resolution is not that great sadly. At the time though, it was one of the only 'acceptable' 360 cams , next to the Garmin (which I still have, but never use again)... and was a leap forward from the 'beginning of 360' , meaning, having constructions of 4-6 GoPro's and very expensive 'stitching' software...
    So in that sense, 'we' progressed, and all those 'old' techniques are very obsolete now...

  • @firstsoldier4257
    @firstsoldier4257 Місяць тому +15

    26 - The cost of a repair lens is $99 since it WILL SCRATCH if you touch it on ANYTHING 27 - $99 was the cost of the repair for the X2 - so its probably much more expensive now! 28 - The turnaround time to get the lens repair is over 8+ weeks if they get back to you in a timely fashion (which they won't) 29 - The lens guards severely degrade the footage and effect the stitch - hence why no finluencer actually shows using them - so again back to no 26 - you will SCRATCH THE LENSES! I can keep going if you like - I have spent over $700 on ONE of these cameras and had to go through the repair process 3 TIMES - I finally GAVE UP ON USING THEM! Stop LYING to people and calling these things action cameras - they are just as fragile and there fore - not as versatile as they claim - as any other camera - even more so with these lenses!

    So, do you have a recommendation for a good, consumer-friendly drone & mounts that will happily carry the X4 without needing to dive into the FPV world? Ideally it would be great to mount a powerbank to the pair as well to give much longer flight times..............
    And btw I was able to overheat my X4 and get it to shut down after... 46mins of 8K recording. :)

    How were you able to press and set the tracking on the birds while flying your FPV drone and another hand on your phone? because, I thought to set the tracking you'll have to do that through your phone isn't it? And, secondly, as it's tracking the bird for instance, do you still have to fly & chase the birds? because, we all know the birds didn't come to play with the drone are they? I mean, they'll get away in a few seconds. And lastly, how did u get the speedometer on the screen? is that in the app too or what?

    Looks great, but for your drone's sake, you would do better to hang the 360 BELOW the drone then over it. You are placing a lot of weight on one side and creating a higher center mass which is bad for the motors and the controller.
    Having it hanging may be harder to land of course, so a quick release is a good solition. Just bring the drone to you, hover it, desengage the camera and land.
    Cheers.

    My wife and I ride Recumbent Trikes and I have a GoPro Max and have a setup with a Ram mount on the frame to hold the the Max attached to a Insta 360 selfie stick. It works great and gets some great shots and videos, but I find the post processing tricky, and it eats tones of storage. I bought a DJI Air 2S to film footage using the tracking function while riding the Trikes, but I've never used it while riding due to fear of hitting someone , or fly away. Think with the expanding regulations, that is likely to come, and difficult to use while riding, I'll sell my Air2S and pick up the Insta 360 X4.
    A Question I have is, it a better camera, and user experience than the GoPro Max, and is it worth replacing the Max ?

    • @CAPTAINDRONE798
      @CAPTAINDRONE798  26 днів тому +1

      Not many people use the GoPro max, but if it is doing what you need it to do, then keep using it. The X4 is a more advanced camera for certain with plenty of cool things you can do.

    Best Review of the 5+ I have watched. I do wish that you would have said if the drone stick could be shrunk down to the invisible selfie stick. I suspect the drone stick is sooo long it doesn't need to be invisible.

    • @CAPTAINDRONE798
      @CAPTAINDRONE798  Місяць тому +1

      The higher the X4 is from the drone, the cooler it looks, but there is a trade off because it then acts like a pendulum for the drone and flight could get a bit sketchy.

      No issues. This is not new technology for connecting as insta360 has been around for many years and all their products connect to all types of cell phones. My guess is you're missing something, so go back to the simple method, turn on camera, ensure WIFI and BLUETOOTH and DETECT are all turned on in the camera (you do this in the settings). Start up the app on your phone and search for the camera. If the app can't discover it, well then you have a setting wrong on your phone, so then simply go into the WIFI of your phone, search for the WIFI signal coming from the camera and connect manually, then return to the app and connect again.

      If you look below iPhondo's video you will see my comment saying I was never asked such a thing. Apparently only AMERICANS (USA influencers) were asked that by the USA Insta360 office. Those of us in Canada and other parts of the world were never provided sponsorship demands or wording. I'm also told that the manager who told his employees to ask that has been reassigned.
