Jesse I don’t know if you will see this, but I wanted to share a quick story. With most of the UA-camrs videos I watch I kind of just click and let them play while I do other things. I saw you posted yours and was about to press play, but stopped, because I knew I wanted to watch it when I could actually sit and watch because of how you produce your videos. So I still haven’t watched it, because I’m about to go film some stuff with my X4, but I thought I’d let you know that I still love your work and I can’t wait to watch your video. @4:34 With my screen, even zoomed in, on this UA-cam video the X3 looks just as good. In fact, the color and sharpness actually look better. But boy do I want the X4 for other features. Definitely needed the lens protectors.
Came here to comment just that, look at the clouds or especially the red building in the background, X3 looks way crispier? Could it be that he accidently switched up the x4/x3 text?

At 4:17 something must have gone wrong.
The image of the X3 is sharper. And it's not just perceived sharpness because of digital sharpening.
Yeah watching back on UA-cam in particular something seems strange. I’ll do some more tests, and hopefully with a production model.

I haven’t seen anybody do it, i think its necessary to show how versatile it can be to do the whole thing.

iphone app not so quick any your batterie is in a minute zero
so you have to edit all video with your computer but insta software from insta its not gonna work so quick if is ready extremly big files
and know you have to upload to youtube...another problem is begin there

Yes, I noticed that too. Not sharp at all.
For sure! But there's a difference between detail and sharpness. The X3 doesn't let you turn down the digital sharpening nearly as much, and you can turn up the sharpness on the X4 to get higher perceived detail, but I prefer having the cleanest image to start with and then I can sharpen in post if it feels necessary. The X3 does that weird jagged edge thing as you crop in this far.
@@NeilFarrimond For sure! I actually had to reshoot this since the first time I realized sharpness on the X4 was set to medium instead of low. It looked sharper than the x3, but had the same jagged edge look that I don’t like. Reshooting it with matching settings the differences were pretty surprising.

This has been the most incredible footage I’ve seen from this camera, especially that opening dark scene but also any Insta360 or any 360 camera my God can you let us in on what kind of grading and editing went into? Very impressive dynamic range. Can’t wait to bring one to swim with manatees next month.
The comparrisson of 8k vs 5.3 the x3 actually looks sharper?
It's funny how influencers seem to think everyone watching their videos are... other influencers. Well, I am just a dad who wants to capture memorable moments of his kids in the best resolution possible and from all around (i.e. 360º) so in the future his kids can "time travel" back into those moments. I've been doing that since the GoPro Max and even those shots are still an awesome experience to watch back in VR.

Looks great...questions about the lens guards...are they "waterproof" over the main lenses ie can be used surfing...and does water still stick to centre of protective lenses

A mix of both! But essentially just fixing exposure to taste and adding a bit of saturation.

@@JesseDriftwood is it hyped like ace pro for low light? One of my friend got it and he said it's terrible. I have see 5 to 6 big you tubers videos and non spoke about low light so it kind of makes sense.

@@roninr8199 There is no good 360 camera for shooting lowlight/ high ISO. The 1” probably has the cleanest shadows for it. The Ace Pro is easily the best low light action camera ever made, and I have zero clue about a new 1” model.
@@JesseDriftwood pocket 3 is very fragile I just hoped atleast it was decent enough with x4. Now have to see what action 5 or go pro would offer
When you're sitting on the bridge (5:04), you have the image on the left labeled as X4, 8k and the image on the right as X3, 5.7k. However, the image on the right is much sharper with better color. Are your labels backwards?
Can it do more brackets in the HDR photo mode? I have the X2 and it is 9 images at 1 stop. I'd love to see more.

Gotta bring up the light in that shot sitting on the sky jack talking to camera... such amazing light! (and to all these manufacturers of small sensor cameras - the lower you let us set in-camera sharpening the better. This is better than the predecessor, but letting us go lower in camera then sharpening per shot would be so much better!)

It’s called speed ramping and the method is different depending on which app you use. I have a tutorial for doing it in Final Cut Pro on my page somewhere.

I just canceled my order for a Pocket 3 because I think my Pocket 1 is still good enough for social media posts. Ima order the X4 since my first Insta360 has chips on the lenses. I haven’t taken “action” shots like going underwater for a long time. I can’t do that with the Pocket cams, though I still have a Hero 4 Silver with waterproof case that’s in storage lol. This video and warmer season coming up helped me decide to go with a 360 cam. I want to save money by getting X3 but I’ll go with X4

Just returned my x3. Only had it four days and then they dropped the new one.

WHAT I NEED is for insta360 to make a camera that actually wrks in low light. they keep getting better, but it's still not there. i shoot mostly techno for large scale artists, and we'd have so much to work wtih in post if they could just get the low light situated. as of now, it works ok, if the camera is not moving, and as long as the lights don't strobe. the second you introduce either of those, the image turns to mud. i'm still going to use them and be grateful for the product support, but this is what we realllllllyyyyy neeeeeed. 8k is cool and all but most of my clients are still posting 1080.
Yeah big agree here! The 1” 360 mod has the cleanest shadows of all of them, but still isn’t really a lowlight camera. I hope if they update that one it brings huge lowlight improvements for exactly that type of production.

Love this video and want to see more from the X4. I’m a bit frustrated though. A lot of these videos on cameras like the X4, or the Pocket 3 kinda assume the user is a content creator and talk about shooting on flat profiles and D-log, fixing stuff on post and color grading. Wish I could find more vids that catered to the average Joe that doesn’t know how to color grade and such. Hahaha. I’m not cool anymore. 😂

When shooting video in HDR mode it does not allow you to do 8K. It lowers to 5.7k
10:00 ~it's also pretty expensive~ YES it is, but then again so is a drone and you can't fly drones in a lot of places so I'm seriously considering it when I have a project that needs it.

X4's sharpness is a bit off not sure if you got a bad unit or what but damn. X3's footage is better.
I bought an X3 a month ago, have a one x and wanted to upgrade.
So.. X4, yes 8K can be good when downscaling.
I think it's a shame that it's so much bigger than the X3, everything is getting smaller and lighter, so..? Of course I understand more things = more space, but I think it could be smaller.
AI chip can maybe be used, but not for me.
I could wait but needed a better 360 camera for a job. The biggest drawback is that here in Sweden an X4 costs almost $200 more than the X3!!
I hear you, but it's been quite a long time since tech has been shrinking. The X2 was bigger than the OneX, the X3 bigger than the X2. Same thing with the Go/Go2/Go3. Heck even cell phones stopped chasing being the smallest thinest on the market over a decade ago.
Does the camera come with a Jesse Driftwood? Cause that seems like a pretty key part of getting this footage.

I use their desktop app on a base spec m1 MacBook Pro and it’s no problem at all.
I don't know what you did or how, mislabelled? soft, not in focus, colorshift,... X3 is definitely better in this showcase
well 5.7k is better because of the 8k. so essentially it's about the 8k.
if it didn't have the necessary bitrate and general data processing power and quality upgrade to be capable of 8k, then the 5.7k wouldn't have better quality either.
i think 360cam res should get even better than this. (because a crop from a sphere has so much lower resolution by its nature, even 8k footage looks crappy if you crop it to a normal FOV, 60 degree FOV is 1/6 of 360 degree, which means 1/6th resolution of 8k, and adding to that you don't crop to 60 degree spherical slice that would look like a watermelon slice and that's not a useful frame ratio and shape, so you also crop the below and above the useful frame of the slice so the resolution becomes even smaller, around 1/10th of the resolution for full spherical resolution, which is below 1440p) but after reaching around 16k-18k, diminishing returns will overtake and that would be enough. then it would have reached the enough quality roughly equal to what we use today as non-360 cameras.
