- This is my beginner's guide and tutorial for the Insta360 X4 and the Insta360 App. This beginner's guide is geared toward those who have never used a 360 camera before and want to learn how to use the new Insta360 X4. We go over the hardware and basic functionality of the camera to help you get up and capture quickly. We take a quick look at the Insta360 app and go over some of the basics to help you edit and reframe your 360 footage from the Insta360 X4.

Schawn, thanks for the basics. Please prepare a detailed tutorial for super beginners like me. I'm planning a vacation and my camera is not going to cut it. So I need this 360 and how to prepare the most beautiful memories of all !!
Thank you very much for your excellent tutorial, Shawn. These companies should pay you for the great way in which you present these things, both complete (to the level you have said it will be presented - e.g. beginner, advanced) and in a way that is easy to follow and understand.
In fact, your work today has convinced me to jump in and buy this camera. I had decided that things like my vacation videos would be done using the combo of my iPhone Pro Max and the Mini 4 Pro, and rejected the idea of adding a GoPro or other action camera to the mix. But this is different. I like the fact that the image captured is in 360 and giving the freedom to edit any view wanted. Of course 360 cameras have been out for awhile, but this one with its increased capabilities makes the difference for me. Thanks again, Shawn.
Thank you very much. I really appreciate that. Indeed the capabilities of this camera now are incredible. I d did use the previous models on a regular basis, but I am extremely pleased with the quality. I will definitely be using it much more frequently. Many people this is the only camera needed. I love all the interesting perspectives I can capture.
Great video. I'm yet to get into the world of action/360 cameras but I am coming from Nikon DLSR cameras and sport photos. The two views at the same time (front and back) is a nice feature, can that be customised so that one screen is say in the corner of the main screen rather than side-by-side? I've searched and searched but not found an answer, is it possible to shoot a photo while the video is still recording? Anyway, a great video and I got lots out of it, thank you. I'll be purchasing soon.

Great helpful video. What tablet are you using the app on? I've just found that my Chromebook isn't compatible so need to find a tablet I can use.
So I did some research about this camera it can support up to 1tb micro sd card

What's the maximum reframed output for 8k 30fps, 5.7k 60fps and 4K 60fps videos on the mobile app respectively please ??

If we were to compare the 5k 30fps (reframed at 1080p) of the X3 with the same but on the X4, is it better? Or the HDR mode, identical settings on both

It is really easy to use. I really like it just for the fact that I can get some really unique shots. I can’t get any other type of camera. Plus, I can use it like a traditional camera.
Hi. I have just taken delivery of my x4 and motorcycle kit. Like most, I could not wait to take some video whilst riding and although successful, I was somewhat stumped with the editing. Having found your tutorial I am so happy that I can now make use of the app and camera to achieve what I want. So looking forward to some dry weather to get more footage. Hi. I am trying to figure out how to use it for motorcycling as well. Any tips? I haven't tried it yet.
do you use the lens protector while riding?
I don’t use the Len’s protector but with increasing number of flying bugs I will give it a try
Can this camera be used as indoor studio recording camera as well?
Was there any settings you had to change to export in 4K on your iPad? I have an older iPad Pro and I’m only able to export at 2.7k. Thinking my iPad might just be too old?

Was wondering. With this 360 x4 camera. Does this allow viewers to have control of what angle they see when it's viewing. Example on tv. Ability to control with remote.
If uploaded as a 360 file, yes.

Any advantage of editing it thru ipad/tablets vs cellphone/computer?
Great to see that the iPad app now utilises the whole screen, I exported a reframed video but it saved it to the photos app, I seem to think you mentioned it goes back to the camera sd card, when I looked it wasn’t there just to photos app. Is there a setting to change etc as I want it to go to the sd card?
Indeed, when you export it will save it to the camera roll. From there, you can move it to other devices via the Files app.

Great video!! One question: Do you know if you can take a photo while you are recording a video? It would be awesome!
No you can't. However, if you are in either the Video or Photo mode and you are currently not recording and you have voice command enabled. if you say 'Take Photo' the camera will switch to photo mode and takes a photo.
how fast can this camera boot up? From OFF state (as opposed to stand-by) to the start of recording, how many seconds?

can more than one mic be connected to X4? Without the DJI mic charge case, is there a way to know the amount of battery life in the DJI Mic 2? I believe the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 shows the % on the screen when connected... what method do you use if you are only traveling with a Mic 2 that is dedicated to the Insta360 X4?
Unfortunately, only one Bluetooth microphone at a time. And it does not show the battery percentage.

Is there a way I can download my 360 videos onto my iPad or android phone and view them in 360 or do I have to use a certain program in order to view them in 360?
You can view them in 360 in the Insta360 app

How to mark some moments while recording ?
I want it!!.. the bundles are triggering my adhd ..I have great deal of gopro hero 7 black accessories... yeah thats how far behind I'm lagging.. I hope I'm pleasantly blown tf away with the gap lol like I was when I went from Pixel 2 to the S22ultra ..life changing contrast!!
You're not even remotely "lagging behind". You're simply not subscribing to the absurd push of these companies to make you feel like you have to buy a new camera every year.
I'm still using the hero 5. The 7 is a perfectly great camera and there's not much an 8 or 9 or what have you would be doing better.

Did you have to do anything special to use the phone as a remote? Mine isn't showing the preview like yours at 21:45.
How was connecting to your phone and using their app? I have a x4 and go3 coming in a few days, went to download the app, people aren’t fans at all.
Works perfect for me. I’ve never had an issue with connection. I wouldn’t say I use the app daily but several times a week. Perhaps it depends on the phone model.
I have the 360Flow and the OG Go now have the X4(not really liking it but i give it a chance for a week) never had any issue with the Insta360 app it is very easy to use and like I said never had an issue... good luck Peace! thanks Sean for another great video as well!

When ever I use 8k 30fps or 5k settings it only allows me to export in 1440p but if I record in 4k 60 it does allow me to export my videos in 4k. I use an iPhone 12 mini to edit my videos in the insta360 app.
I’m not sure I’ll look into that. I am able to export at 4K with no issue. I wonder why Insta360 support would say
I have ran into an issue with exporting 360 view footage. Most computers on the market will take hours to export the files out of Insta360 Studio if the clip is longer than 30 seconds. My research is steering me to an upgraded Mac Book with M3 processor to handle the processing load on the computer.
The good thing is this particular rubber lens protector goes over this huge premium lens guards. People better take that into consideration if they go online to buy better encasing or they’re going to have to assemble, disassemble the lens guards every time they put it away. 😂
instead of a spare battery I bought a powered selfie stick and a super long (3m) USB-A to USB-C cable, so I can use an external battery pack. That should get me through the day :-)

Why isn't the camera working out of the box? And why can it only be unlocked with an Insta360 app? And not even with a PC, only via smartphone... How about making a video about that?
Unfortunately, that’s kind of across the board now for gear like this. Everything needs to be activated. It is a real pain. I do agree. Most brands require this now

I'm usually photo only (Nikon) and planned to go back into video with the X4... and now I have to return that piece of crap. What's next? Having to register your coffee machine before it works? Having to register a cornflakes box before you can open it? Especially since the damn camera is working for half a second when you fire up the X4 - but then they lock it up like an Uyghur...
