    I bought a Holystone 720e years ago and I still have it in tact. It was a good starter gps drone. I had a lot of fun with it. I haven’t flown it in several years, but it had good RTH and the few times I crash it, it survived and probably would fly today if I tried it. This looks like a nice improvement over mine, but the price is prohibiting. Maybe the RID has ran the cost up. 😢 enjoyed the review and I vote for an interview with Lawnmower man. I bet he would be interesting 😂

    Great video! Because of your vids, I bought a Potensic Atom and love it. Given the 20% off sale at the time it ended up only $329 for the kit including 3 batts, charging station, etc. It has a very similar feature set as this one, and similar range.. just over 1.6km. I live in a small farming town and it's LITTERED with DJI warning zones! For farms. I couldn't believe it. So I'll NEVER buy a DJI product. I mean - farms? lol. Be well and thank you Captain :)

    To those thinking about a DJI mini or if you’re just a DJI fanboy this particular drone offers something you can’t have with DJI. Airspace freedom. Fly wherever you please. I simply like to fly across the street with some open fields but I can’t use a DJI because of an airport nearby. So I use drones like this to fly at my leisure without the annoying messages saying I can’t start my engines.

    One of the things I noticed about this drone is that it looks a lot like a Walkera t210 mini. Im not sure which drone came out first but this drone has the exact same camera and body shape. The two apps side by side also look to be essentially the same thing. The only difference that I notice is that this one has a different controlller. The Walkera is also a much better deal as it is almost half the price. One thing to consider is that the Walkera is not remote id compliant but if you live in the U.S you don't need Remote id for drones under 250 grams.

    If you do not fancy the HS900 or DJI SE or DJI 4k...................I have just picked up the Cfly faith Mini 2, 1 x 64gb sd card, 1 x battery and a carry case for under 200 USD, its an Incredible drone and a very low price, flies brilliant, takes 4k/30fps video.
    I used to always go to DJI and the Cfly is not 100% to match DJI, but at a 3rd of the price its 10 times better.

    Great review Cap! Holy Stone has come a long way but... It's no DJI. I agree the price is too high but, there is $100.00 off on the USA Amazon site so that makes it much more in line. I'd still purchase a DJI mini SE or Mini 2 before I'd purchase this one. It looked like at 1 mile you were getting the "weak signal" message. I can fly my DJI mini a couple miles with no problems and the features work. I do think it's a viable option for a youngster or new drone pilot but I would steer them toward DJI or even Potensic Atom over Holy Stone. It is great to see some of the smaller companies trying to compete and bring advanced features to the market. Thanks for the review! Cheers!

    • @cazmodder
      @cazmodder 26 днів тому +1

      I can't speak for the hs900 but I'm a beginner and i have the mini4k and I'm really liking it. Mini 4k can shoot at 4k 30 but also at 1440p 60 fps while the hs900 seems to only have 4k 30 or 1080p 60. That combined with the price difference I'd maybe recommend the mini4k. I got the mini4k and the dji care refresh insurance for like 40 dollars which is good. But DJI customer service couldn't tell me where to find spare 4k batteries. The mini4k is only available on amazon and the amazon store suggests buying batteries for the mini 2 but no one can give me a definitive answer on if the mini 4k and mini 2 batteries are interchangeable.

    @2:00 I'm asking if the cable is hardwired to the controller, or if it's a standard cable that can be replaced with a longer one. Even if it isn't there are adapters that will allow for a longer cable to be added.
    Overall it looks like a good bird, but that it weighs exactly 249g makes it unable to take the required strobe for night fights in the U.S.. A recreational pilot would be unlikely to be inspected for that so long as they were being sane about flying, but it's still worth noting.
    I wonder if one could shave enough of the housing off to drop a gram or two in order to mount a suitable strobe.
    I do think that HS is pricing their drones a bit high in the U.S. on purpose. Pending bans on government agencies buying from DJI makes that market less competitive, and government agencies buy a lot of drones in the U.S.

    At this price point unless you're anti DJI I would just buy a DJI Mini 4k or Mini 2 SE.
    I bought a mini 4 pro because I wanted all the bells and whistles. But after 4 months I hardly ever use any of them. I would have been very happy with a mini 2 or mini 4k instead.

A drone while toilet bowl if the operator does a poor gps calibration, in a less than perfect location. Also if you crash a budget drone, the odds are it will then toilet bowl.

      @@contactpq The first mode is definitely optical. But the parallel mode may actually be GPS follow-me. It sure looks like it. Compass type to be precise. It stays north south east west of you. If I'm right it then won't track you but the controller(phone).
      Unfortunately drone reviewers (and manufacturers) have trouble understanding the different modes and types. For example in this video Steve says it should follow from behind. I don't know about him, but I don't have eyes in the back of my head. Especially without obstacle avoidance I much prefer having the drone in view in front of me. With compass type follow-me (GPS) you can.
      What Steve also doesn't mention is if there is a homepoint update option in the app. Or sometimes a drone auto-updates homepoint. So I don't have to race all the way back!
      Optical tracking is great to get certain shots. I mean a DJI Mini 3 Pro or 4 Pro do a great job. But in real life when you're on a bike follow-me is much more usable. It is more reliable, safer, and the shots are more smooth with more landscape in view. If......and that is the problem, the feature is programmed correctly. Very few are. But from what I have seen Litchi, Maven and Dronelink are the way to go. Then you will have both active-track and follow-me. Such a shame DJI doesn't provide follow-me. I guess they don't ride bikes.

    • @driewiel
      @driewiel 26 днів тому

      @@contactpq BTW I don't blame Steve for not fully testing the tracking or follow-me on all drones he reviews. Takes a lot of time. You really can't tell how good it works after a couple steps in a field. You have to test it in real situations, walking, riding a bike, from a boat, hopping with your skippy ball..... From what distance will it track you? What speed? Can you use the sticks? What happens at low battery? How does it fly manually? A day is probably too short.
      I don't have access to all drone models like DJI so I can't make active-track and follow-me my specialty. But many people get a drone for exactly that. So it's certainly something you can fill a YT channel with.

    All of my HS700 series drones (i.e., D, E, G, ...) has a calibration problem. It only allows to have compass calibration but no gyro calibration. Further, the compass calibration is not very effective. So, I lost 2 HS700D, one HS700E (or G) has the potential to fly away (i.e., difficult to control), and even the most recent version (G?) exhibits the similar behavior. This HS900, although attractive, costs more than a DJI Mini 4K and a Potensic ATOM. Anyway, I am not sure I should get this one because the DJI Mini 3 (non-pro version) could be very good and cheaper. BTW, I don't think the HS700 series has a good 4K camera.
