    Finally got this set up at my cottage. Now I control my hot water tank and water pump by wifi plugs (wyze). Thx again for this video.

    If you get the sonoff smart plug you can make it easier, so once the temp monitor detect the temp drop down from whatever you setup, it will trigger the smart plug automatically, and you can set the time range you want to turn on automatically and whenever you need it you can do it manually using alexa, google assistant or even siri from your apple watch, I have something similar and it runs great, but I am going to steal your idea for my heater, I don't mind much of electricity bc I do also have solar panels, but want to save as much as possible, congrats it was a GREAT IDEA!!

    Love this simple inexpensive setup. We have a home not used very often and the electric water heater is a very high expense. I'd love to turn it off most of the time and turn it on a day before we use the home. Any thoughts on if its safe to be using that heated, then cooled water and then heat it again?

    Great idea! Where is the link for the 120v relay?

    Thanks! This is so simple. I want to set up automated times on and off for my water heater. Are you doing that with yours? I have flex power rates where I charge battery systems cheaper. From 1 am to 6am the rates are way cheaper. I want to do the same thing with my water heater. But I don't want to have to turn it on and off manually.

      Yes exactly what I'm doing still working awesome. Plus turn it off or on anytime and anywhere you want.

    I do The same but use esphome/tasmota on The devices. I Either controll by The devices themself since ypu can Write rules, or node red or home assistant. I do it for my solar to :) IE caculating based on all from Cost to weather

      @ModernOffGridDIY  2 роки тому

      Awesome I thought about flashing and using tasmota but I dont know enough about it yet and seemed a little complicated but that's because I need to learn more about it. But the current setup has been working flawlessly. Thanks for sharing

    I guess the 120 side doesn't draw much current as you only use 10 wifi plugs. nice way of controlling your cost the relays are like $50 in Canada lol.

    • @ModernOffGridDIY
      @ModernOffGridDIY  2 роки тому

      It draws 3 watts only, the relays are cheap here. Maybe you can find a different coil relay in Canada

    How long after you turn it on does ot the for the water temp to get back up to where you take a shower?

    This is a great video. Thanks so much. I am planning to do the same wifi plug set up to my water heater and water pump. The relay that you posted has 2 flat prongs on each side (for the 120V coil). How do we hook up the cord to these prongs or can these 2 sets of prongs be removed like seen in your video)
    Thanks so much!!

    • @ModernOffGridDIY
      @ModernOffGridDIY  Рік тому

      Simple just add I flat connector to your wires and slide it on. We still use this setup on many setups.

      One last question. Wrt the ground wires. Did u connect the incoming heater ground wire to the outgoing heater ground wire? The rely switch doesn't involve the ground wires, correct?
      Thanks!!!!!

    • @ModernOffGridDIY
      @ModernOffGridDIY  Рік тому

      Yes so the 3 wires coming from your main 1 of them is ground that is grounded in the case the green Screw, then the 3 wires coming from water heater 1 is ground that also gets grounded at the green screw in the metal case. That way the ground is Continuous From the hot water heater all the way through all the way back to the breaker panel where it's grounded. It's the same way you would wire I regular water heater. The only difference is you replace the timer in the box with the relay and your L1 and L2 pass thu it.

    Out of the topic, but how you fixed Tesla batteries to the wall? I just got 4 of them and planing our 48V system. Sorry once again that posting it to this video, as one with batteries and BMS are bit old and I am not sure you are monitoring it anymore . Thanks and greetings from New Zealand

    • @ModernOffGridDIY
      @ModernOffGridDIY  2 роки тому

      I actually have a video explaining how I mounted the batteries to the wall. The video is called you can't mount Tesla batteries to a wall. I made this video because lots of people was asking how I mounted the batteries to the wall check it out.

    "Any water heater" would include gas-fired units. Misleading title is not helpful.
