This is amazing! My landlord is Amish and his horses are watered off of our well. But his house is totally separate, even though we are neighbors. I thank God for him and his family because we were one of many who applied for the house we are in. We had no credit because we lived without debt for so long that there was no report to show on record. Our son was having a hard time with the neighborhood boys and I couldn't keep him around that area any longer! I went to my husband and explained what was happening, and we decided to pick up and leave right then and there. I prayed and prayed and this man, by the grace of God, gave us a chance despite not having that credit score he was looking for. And we've been here now for almost 6 years! I say this because we live in a place that does not offer "normal" typical conveniences. We do things by hand, we live very frugally, but in spite of it all, your videos make me SO PROUD of where we are!! God puts the Word in front of us to remind us of our salvation. He also puts people in front of us to remind us of our blessings. YOU ARE ONE OF THOSE BLESSINGS!!!!!! :)

You know God will put in front of you what you need. He will also connect you with people that you need to know. I know absolutely everything works out all the time, it doesn't always work out the way you want but it always works out one way or the other. People think random stuff happens, but nothing is random. For example I was out junking and I found a decent wooden ladder.... That morning I was talking about needing some clothesline poles. Lo and behold ..... I got to talkin to some people about a half hour later and they we're outside working and I saw them, and got to talking to him and he mentioned he needed a ladder.... And then offered me two clothesline poles so I gave him the ladder, he gave me the poles. I know for a fact that that was not random.

Right behind you... hoping to be off it fully in the next two years. Still in the research/planning and ground breaking stages. Granted we live in the deep south so not a whole lot will change. Food, water and heating are our initial concerns. Small garden started and growing, next steps rain water system and small home building. Followed by chickens and restocking our small pond. Gotta find a way to make money to pay for it all, that leaves enough daylight/energy to do the labor.... part of what has slowed us down so much... surviving while trying to unplug, I feel, is just as taxing sometimes as actually surviving off grid.

@@mouse9884 We sold our home and property in TX and moved to Okla to be able to do it. Luckily we have a creek that was bone dry because of the drought and got the new property cheap. I knew the rain would eventually come and it did. We had already put back food. And we live in Rv's which is a struggle at every turn. Winter came in weeks earlier than expected which we were not expecting. Been running on generators, which is very expensive. I just keep telling myself "Learn how to live with nothing now and it won't be such a big shock later when everyone is having to do it". 😂 Don't overthink it. Just do it. You figure it out very quickly cause you have no choice. It's do or die. You can do it. If I can do it, anyone can. I was spoiled to my grid luxuries. Now I wouldn't even know if the grid did go down. Lol

We were gonna sell our land and move as well, but in Mississippi land tax is pretty cheap and we have 9.5acres with a pond... mostly woodland full of seasonal wild game and about an acre cleared and fenced for garden. Figured we already had a decent start where we are, but house is falling apart... so gonna get an rv and rebuild(1/3 the size and off the grid). Just without selling everything, money for supplies is tight..sigh...as well as time because most is spent earning funds... we will get there one day, hell the way things are going lately we may be off grid next month 😂 atleast we have a fireplace and get plenty of rain 🙃 the rest... nature and God will provide a way, just gotta be wiley enough to recognize it 😉. Thankfully people like these two share their knowledge so that we can benefit and grow quicker.

Doug and Stacy: My great grandma used to heat the water on top of the wood stove in a large teapot, then pour that hot water into a small metal tub (that had cold water in it), stirring the water in the tub with her hands until the cold water was warm enough for bathing - but not too hot. Worked super good and if we needed more hot water she just kept the teapot going on the wood stove. Such great memories.

A true test is you rent a place & your on well water & the motor breaks, not once but twice & then winter comes your furnace breaks down, you can't get it filled, because you still owe for the last amt when you do get the furnace fixed & your in the beginning time of winter.
I doubt anyone 50 yrs or younger could handle it, with or without a cell phone. And don't say move ... because you don't make enough to pay the higher prices. 🤷‍♂️

Gradually Is my suggestion, picking 1 modification until it's usable, then add another, and then a other. 14 years they have been working on their place, just putting in solar. 1st year we put in solar 4-5 months into it daughter in law didn't want to invest in solar really but we were making it, when she tore our little building down covering all component's and fried everything. Everyone must be on board and willing to compromise usage of power until system can handle the load you currently use. One person's actions can sometimes destroy what a family sets out to do which is too bad. I worked few hours but all I could get at 68 years old and disabled. A cheerful heart goes a long way with a total sudden life if off grid without all systems in place. Water system has to be carefully thought out and planned, from the gutters to filtration to running it to where you need it, shower, sink, animals. Not for the faint of heart.

But everything else is easily do-able off grid. Propane and wood stove for heating and cooking, some solar and/or wind power for lights. There's even solar well pump kits out there. A/C is really the only high electric consumption I have found that's harder to supply off grid. Depending on your climate, you can use a evaporative cooler to cool your home in the summer depending on where you live. Those are a low power draw. But they don't work good in places like Florida.

It's a beautiful life to live simple and the work involved to get set up is worth it. I grew up in a family of 14 plus Mom and Dad and we worked hard on the farm. We picked corn by hand as kids with each of us taking 3 rows, dug potatoes, washed our clothes on a wringer washer and hung them outside to dry. I would not trade that childhood for anything. That life taught me to work hard. Thank you two for sharing your life with us.

What a great idea for heating up water! I grew up with wooden heat in my "modern" home, and my parents still use it to this day! Some of my favorite childhood memories are of being in the woods and loading my dad's truck after he has cut trees down, and then filling the wood shed. I'm 42, and so thankful that I had a taste of the "old" way of doing things....Praying about doing so myself with my family!

I don’t need to layer on the ‘comforts’. Right now my heater is off, It didn’t bother me and I didn’t think of it until I watched your video. The low overnight was 36 which is not too bad… but, It’s cold in here, L O L, think I’ll light a fire now, haha

I 'm so impressed with your ingenuity applied to the Amish system. The shower is beautiful, the way you fixed it up in your nifty outbuilding. Thank you for all the teaching moments with you both. When I was living in my travel trailer on my 12 acres, I heated the water in a canner, over propane stove, carried the canner into the tiny bathroom and sat down on the edge of the shower. And I washed myself clean with my feet in the water. I used kerosene lamps for light and lived in a tiny room built adjoining the travel trailer. I collected rainwater. I had to watch out for bears, bobcats, and strange people on occasion. I learned to live simply and enjoyed the experience. Now I have a different property and mobile home on the grid, and looking forward to some innovations like yours.

I can see how very hard y’all have worked. We are not planning on being homesteaders. At least not to the degree that y’all are but I take what I can use and share with others that may be interested. Thank you for sharing. I so much enjoy ❤️

I live in Australia and from what I can tell the Amish know what life is all about. Seems like a great culture. All the best

Even if you can't make the transition to ALL THE WAY OFF GRID, there's SO MUCH TESTED & TRIED information on this channel to keep you sufficiently self reliant to make it through a rough period. Thanks SO MUCH for all you have done and are doing! Stay BLESSED!

I don't live off grid but i have invested in my home with everything needed, so if the bottom falls out i can transition to a self sustained way of life with out needing much. It's refreshing to see how you reflect the freedom and solitude you have obtained by becoming self sufficient.
