Today I take out my 2012 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R-Spec for some 0-60mph runs. I hook up dash command and got about 18 useable runs. I tried various methods to try and get the car fastest to sixty. We experiment with launching at different RPM's, enabling and disabling the traction control system, and auto/manual mode for the transmission. For reference is was about 35-40 degrees farenheight and Im running the Firestone Indy 500 Tire, a dedicated summer performance tire. The more runs I did, it seemed as though the tires were warming up and gaining traction better, seeing as the biggest variable in these tests today was the cold road not allowing the tires to properly grip. We managed to get the fastest time of the day which was a 4.84 seconds. Seeing as the fastest time Ive gotten in this car prior and consistently was a 4.8, I would call this test in considerably colder weather a success. What’s the longevity on this thang
Add me to the list. I have 145,000 miles and I still turn heads and pull on Charger
s and Challengers. My only mechanical failure was an alternator and a bad shift in the trans. Under warranty Hyundai gave me a rebuilt trans and she is going strong.

Great vid I live in Fla I use premium gas and run 275 40-R19 in the rear and I constantly get 4.7 to 4.8 to 4.9 small chirp on the rear tires I got over 70000 miles on it car been great such a sleeper

Nice runs. Quick note for consideration... Although the tires are cold, so is the air making it more dense. Without further mods, i doubt you'll be able to get lower than 4.8. If you do, we'll be looking forward to seeing it!!

Those are very consistent runs! I'm sure your times would be faster with a dragy though, definitely give it a try next time, you'll be surprised at how fast your car actually is lol

Nice man! That's what I figured 4.8 is nice! I've got a 2011 4.6 with a few basic bolt ons and fastest I've got so far was 5.1 and thats on 235s.

My 13 is creeping up there with yours 136k
Now and unfortunately on my 3rd trans as if 2k ago all covered by Hyundai ..So they stood behind the failures
But still love this car it’s unique and decently quick for the $
I also have a 13. I bought it at 22k miles and I have had the transmission replaced 3 times under warranty. I have 130k miles now and it is on transmission #4 if you count the original one. STRONG motor but the transmission may be underbuilt.....I don't even drive my car hard and it has been eating up transmissions.
After reading this I’m not sure if I should get one. I’m looking at a 2012 5.0 with 160k miles

When I had my Genesis 5.0. I hit a consistent 5 sec 0-60.
That's about where I'm at, 5.0 seconds flat to 60, and my R-Spec has 243k on the clock.

Drained the transmission fluid at about 60k amd 100kmiles. Not a flush, drain and fill.

Subscribed!!! I'm going to trade my 07 ls460 in for a 5.0, the only thing I'm not sure about is which year? You've got me REALLY considering this VERY reasonably priced tank, but i like the restyling of the 15+....
Welcome Joel! If you want a first generation I’d go with a 13-14 to avoid excessive oil consumption issues. And if you like the restyling I’d go with a 2016+ because I’ve read the 15’s have A LOT of electrical issues. Cheers friend!
I wouldn't trade a Lexus ls460 for a Hyundai Genesis 5.0 r spec any day, the Genesis have poorly built transmissions, I've actually found a reasonably priced low mileage Genesis r spec but I am scared to get it because everyone says they run through transmissions.

Have you ever had any transmission slipping, and have you ever serviced/changed transmission fluid?
Like twice in 5+ years of ownership and only did the service once at around 80k.

No headers. Only exhaust, Intake, pcm and tcm tune. Thats it
Quick question. When I put mine in Manual mode and hit the gas it red lines ( ie. Doesn't shit on it's own ) but look like yours shifts from Manual mode ? I have 2012 R-Spec

@@Xtalgic I'm the second owner. The 1st owner was a college professor who didn't like the gas mileage he was getting in the car. I meet him one day when car was at the dealership getting a oil change.

@@Xtalgic I did lol. You only said 275s I mean front and rear what full size. 275 45 19s rear 245 45 19 fronts? What full size front and rear. My rspec came stock with 235 45 19s I thought 275s would fit but at what sidewall size I didnt know
@@Xtalgic and if I were to get some BC coils to drop the car a little bit would it rub. Pretty sure I saw a vid where you lowered the car but is it still lowered with the new rims and 275s on the rear. Just trying to get my sidewalls right front and back so they dont rub being to high or too wide
Hi any one tell me why my rspec 5.0 2013 slow acceleration ?
Do you clean the intake valves in the manifold? Those may affect your results. Carbon deposits on the rings of the pistons will decrease compression and hence horsepower. I recommend try CRC Intake valve cleaner and then a BG EPR flush then oil change.

Do you always use premium fuel? And how is your 8 speed holding up? All I hear is how these transmissions are weak.
99% of tank fill ups under my ownership has been 93. And luckily my transmission has been good, but I hear the same thing.
@@Xtalgic Yea I used to do 87 on occasion with mine. Mainly for long vacation drives. I stopped when I raced a Red Sport 400 and lost by a hair. If only I had 93 🤦

In manual mode does it shift automatically without you touching the shifter? What's the difference, it just shifts higher?
It does shift automatically in manual. Idk if there’s a difference but I seemed to get better times 🤷♂️

So Hyundai and Kia is kinda known for low quality parts, as it reaches 100k miles, suspension noises start, creaks and weird noises. For these or the 4.6, how would you say the quality has been?
Times have changed my friend. We’ve even figured out how to fly in outer space these day’s.
My R-Spec feels better than a 2005 E320 Benz and a 2008 5-series BMW I've driven. No real quality issues. Interesting electronic quibbles is all.
I am considering buying this or a volvo s80 t6. Would this be worth buying at 90-100k miles?

Xtalgic _ Yeah, those cars are nice yes slightly more weight but you can work your way around it , or maybe you might want to get the 3.3 T which does a steady 4.8-5.0 seconds despite the launch .

Idk Paul is too hesitant to launch it lol I’ll try and convince him in a future video. Doesn’t matter though because the M5’s top end is freakish.

My 2013 R Spec just has 94,000, but check engine light on. Still runs great
Ave you had any issues with evap system. Going to try the CRC cleaner, maybe. Was going to sell my R spec since I now have a 2015 ultimate, but the Rspec is so good, I might sell the 2015

i have one , it does help with regular driving throttle response .. i like it on the low settings.
