Happy Fall you guys! I was originally going to post this on Halloween, but I jumped the gun and got excited so... here you go!
I had a TON of fun doing this cover! 'Over the Garden Wall' is one of my favorite animated series- It's so delightfully strange and oddly nostalgic!

The scary thing about "Come Wayward Souls" is that the song is about giving up and succumbing to a death to aid someone else's survival. I, personally, suffer from depression and have little to no motivation. Giving up, by now, is second nature. I'm already too tired to keep going anyway. But when faced with the question, no one wants to admit they'd eventually give in. The Beast is patient, he starves you out and waits for you to lose hope. No one really wants to give up, but it will be inevitable in the end.
You're likely smarter, kinder,
more empathetic, and MUCH more deserving than you feel. You are part of a web of people. To THOSE people, that web is uncommon, huge, and significant. I promise this won't last forever. Adopt a critter....they'll think the sun rises and sets in you....watch...
Mate never give up, i don't have good advice but never underestimate yourself and it's never too late, Marcus Aurelius said that by loving your purpose in life you love yourself. My friend struggled with the depression and lack of purpose but he kept going until he found one, he said that what kept him going is that he didn't want to be seen as a coward who is too afraid to take the responsibility that comes with purpose and loving yourself.
Hey, dude. Maybe it’s a little bit late now, but anyway, how are u now? I hope u find ur way in this life and the strength to go this way. As said in one good Russian poem by Eugenie Yevtushenko:

Hey, thanks to everyone who showed concern. When I posted this comment 3 years ago, it didn't really occur to me how grim it was.
Plus, the fact that OTGW is an adaptation of Dante's Inferno and the edelwood trees are pretty directly referencing the fate of people who commit suicide in the book... In hindsight, I realize now how much like a last confession this sounds.
I posted this comment when I was 14 and in the thick of my depression. I'm 17 now, and I've come a long way.
When I posted this, I was referring a lot more to a lack of motivation to do everyday tasks that a lot of people with depression struggle with, myself included, like brushing your teeth or even just getting out of bed. The implications of suicide didn't occur to me then. I'm very lucky in that sense, as while I've struggled with mental illness for my whole life, I have never been seriously suicidal.
That is all to say that I'm doing much better. With the help of my family, friends, and therapy, I have made a lot of improvement in these last few years. I have friends and activities that I enjoy, I've found antidepressant medication that works for me, I even won student of the year.
I wasn't initially going to post an update, but seeing as even after all this time, my comment that never even got this popular is still getting comments from people who are concerned about me, I wanted to say that I'm okay, and it gets better.
I can confidently say that if you give up, if you let your depression win and you never get out of bed or leave your house, if you never take the chance to try something new, you will miss out on so much beauty that the world has to offer.
How am I only finding this masterpiece now?? It sounds like a haunting yet calming lullaby, and I love it so much

The song never reaches extremely high or strong tones, which keeps it to the lullaby-sounding melody we hear, and this style is so fitting for the actual song
Both the original and this are good because they work effectively for getting the victims, the original feels stronger and more demanding where you feel like there isn't an escape where this one calmly seduces you into accepting the fate
i always imagined this song was supposed to have this breathy backbone, feels like a true end. beautifully done!

Found this cover after I had been told by the DM of my weekly D&D session that my Warlock's patron was something he is calling the 'WitherBloom'. Which had died out to nearly a bramble... and my character used to only have one arm. I only became a warlock to this nearly dead entity of plantlife that feeds on death by amputating one of it's original host's arms, and grafting it (literally grafting) to the stump where my arm had been. That's when it's whispers started, when the dreams of funerals in the forest began, and the very moment I had become something other than myself. The WitherBloom refers to me as 'cutting' or 'seedling', as I still have a lot of room to grow.

Ah, like the kind of song that would play as a significant character collapses in the antagonist’s arms after the protagonist accidentally shoots the significant character in the back. the antagonist giving a whisper of remembrance as they gently place the corpse on the ground, then look over to the protagonist with a disappointed look and wandering away.

I disagree. I always thought of the beast as an outwardly motherly figure. It kills by making people give up. It would be a lot easier to give up hope when you feel comforted. But I suppose we all have different views and preferences
