This is still one of my favourite (and in my opinion, one of the best) solo shows of all time. He was doing vulnerability before it was cool, and when it was definitely off brand for him. What an amazing thing this show was.
Ive been his fan for 10 years. And just last Sunday I saw his work in progress which he started with « I am quite happy » . he talked about having a boyfriend and having a pretty blissful life + jokes. But it was a delightful experience as if the circle was drawn and this part of his healing journey has come to a happy end ☺️
+sleuthed He's alright. Though I hear, within his delivery. the dominant influence in his life was his Grandmother . Maybe he might read Narcisus and Goldmund and give heterosexuality a chance. He seems to be missing the ability to look favorably upon women.
In his Netflix special he still has his vulnerability, but he seems much happier, more carefree. more integrated and confident. It's nice to see his personal evolution over that span of several years.
leirgauk Obviously you aren't very analytical at all, you were not able to answer my question, in the first instance. . I'd guess the comedian is more competent than you are, at many things. . Deux !
This man is the only one I keep rewatching out of all the stand up shows and I've seen a lot. I adore his sense of humor and his mind in general. God I wish there were at least 20 of these....I don't even laugh at most stand up shows but this one...this is the one that kept me laughing and I am a woman, I can only relate to some parts but still...it's just so, so good.
His stand up is magnificent! I love the way he uses his fears and sense of inadequacy in life but then threads them through his development and lightbulb moments. This was a seriously therapeutic piece of stand up for me.
This ends so beautifully...it closes very well ...like a beautiful pattern!.......ALSO, this is comedy and philosophy and self help - which is so fresh!
Such an uncanny visage -- and a perfect description of self-narration, over-analysis of social situations, and magical thinking. His taste in men -- thin and vulnerable -- definitely resonates with me. Hope he finds what he's after. Despite his self-deprecation, I'd bet he's a catch and fun in the sack. He's brilliant and adorable and I wish he'd been around when I was younger.
@@seallofapproval Why wait for that elusive day? Just start... now. Pick one and start learning it. I was going to say good luck but it isn't about luck it's about doing.

I am SO happy I clicked on this. He's AMAZING!! My mood went up and down and up and down. 2010 it was made, I looked, but I'd still be to old for him :( I hope he gets or has his Mr. Right.
It's fascinating to watch someone be so honest about themselves. The jokes almost ruin it. Shows you how fucked society is that this particular show is such a unique experience. Not to detract from Amstell's genius. No other comedian could pull off this stand up. Truly inspiring. Jolly good show. Maybe get some therapy though before you turn into a Bond villain...
+AlmiNia Hahaha... halarious, never noticed that he looks like Jesse... and the actor that he has a crush on (Ben Whishaw), I've always felt to be the British Jesse Eisenberg.
THANK YOU! I've been confused for a long time about Michael Cera and Jesse Isenberg, and then Simon Amstell pops up and now in my mind this is so fucked up.
I love this guy. The only thing that bothers me is that he says he's so lonely and then recounts the MANY stories of when he was out with his friends/lovers. He has to be the most well connected "lonely" person ever. I'm sure it helps to be amazingly good looking like he is-dear god, I'd pick him over Jared Leto any day.
Perp Derp Nah, I saw a interview with this guy and they asked him point blank, are you really lonely or is it just an act? Paraphrasing he said, back when he was younger and had not grown into his looks life was difficult and that's where he gets those jokes from, but now being a an internationally known comedian and excepting his own personality/physical identify he no longer feels that way most of the time.
@Qiqi Wang It probably doesn't mean anything. Dancing is not meant to be heard that's why it's funny. He wasn't good at the things he did, but when he danced, people heard. It's just an unexpected and partially nonsensical remark with good delivery. Not to say that you can't dance loudly by stamping, being vocal, or the like.
@Qiqi Wang Some people never get any attention from the public untill they do one big act. And they often use the line "when I did this, everyone heard" as if to signify that people are paying attention to them now. He's parodying the line by saying his dancing was so uncoordinated and loud, they all heard it
"Also, I worked really hard since about the age of fourteen to get to wherever the hell I am today, so if she is taking any enjoyment out of my work I think I have earned her child" Had me in tears :-))))

I know! I think it might be one of the best stand-ups I've ever seen! It's persona but not in an irritating sort of way

I genuinely found this so uplifting despite the apocalyptic undertones
