Just from what I've personally observed, the comedians who rely on high shock value for their material who are the funniest always have the ability to occasionally tell a joke which is genuinely funny, but which you could share with primary school children as well.

Wasn't much banter going on between Phil's team and the host but that was usually the case. He was always a selfish captain and non-team player with not many jokes. Off the top of my head I can't think of any time his team had any chemistry or rapport on his team. The other side had 3 or 4 permanent different captains throughout and they all had episodes with team chemistry.

And even though Jupitus never displayed any expert knowledge it STILL never crossed my mind that he could have been a comedian.

The problem with that though was that he barely ever shined and if a team member did start to formulate a joke he'd jump on it often and finish it for them. In the majority of episodes the only focus on his team was when they were matter of factly answering the questions. It'd be interesting for someone to do an analysis of screen time per episode of his team and the opposing team. I'd bet money there wasn't a single episode in which his team had more screen time. That's probably why Phil's team were always given the more low key and boring guests in the end because the team knew about him. But then why was he continuously employed? Have you ever seen him on Would I lie to you? One of the most cringeworthy performances. No idea where he came from or why he was on the BBC gravy train, but I'm not ever gonna google such a mess. I assume he must be a paedo and connected. Can't think of any other explanation.
Bit of a harsh examination of Phil. He's an alright comedian and has a fair amount of knowledge. I've watched Buzzcocks as far back as the Mark Lamarr era and Phil had a bunch of team members he had chemistry and rapport with. Everyone's entitled to an opinion I suppose.
I loved the clip where Amstell destroyed him in a few seconds by deconstructing and mimicking his awful comedy formula. Noel looked so embarrassed and pissed off because it was so accurate.

Yep, I agree. Was it the team members being intimidated by Phil's gruff temperament? He just doesn't seem like a welcoming captain.
