It is refreshing to hear someone speak about firearms with concision and brevity; very informative, "just the facts Ma'am", without all the blabber that is too common on UA-cam videos. A+ rating on answering the question for a long time XDS .45 3.3 owner.
I love my my original XDS 9mm 3.3. I upgraded the internal components, and I enjoy it as much as my Glock 19, and the trigger is very similar now in pounds. I put a rubber sleeve on the grip, and it's much better now.
I guess I'm weird, I like the original XDs better than the Mod 2. When I purchased mine (XDs 9mm, stainless steel slide) I got to hold it, a Glock G43, and a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield. The Springfield XDs (not mod 2) just felt better in my hand than the others. I actually think that the Mod 2 design is a step backwards in ergonomics, and makes the gun less interesting.
The XDS will be with me for years. I just don't think a 45 could be built easier to carry and shoot accurately. Not to dish others...there are many excellent choices but for me the aggressive grip, the ease of sight picture and recoil control are just the right combination.
Well....notsomuch.. I thought it would. I was looking for a 9 and walked into a gun shop. My 45 stayed there. I wasn't really planning on that but...now to buy my 1911 back from a friend that says he doesn't need it and I can buy it back anytime. In full disclosure...I still believe the XDS45 is the best CC 45 out there.. but the Ruger LC9 is just enough smaller and shoots very well.
This pistol is remarkably accurate and easy to shoot and carry in .45 One of my favorites. It is obviously heavier to carry than the nine but I like the round and the accuracy.
Full disclosure...my XDS was traded in for a Ruger LC9. A bit less fire power but enough. Also an excellent shooting firearm and easier to conceal. Still...I think the XDS is the best small 45 going. Second to none.
Just bought my xd mod 2 .45 ACP last week and cannot be happier. Painted on some cleaner sights but aside from that the trigger pull is crisp and it’s all the ammo I need with an extra mag in my back pocket for CC.
I just bought my daughter a Springfield XDS-9 40 ACP & it came with a laser sight. I kinda looks like the Springfield Hellcat. She loves it & now all she needs is a light on the front. I plan on buying 2 more mags for her. Great gun.
I've got the Original, MOD2 OSP with Crimson Trace red dot, XDE and Hellcat OSP. All are great guns but my favorite EDC is the Hellcat mounted with the Holosun 507K. I would trust all of them with my life. Not one hiccup from any of them so far. Springfield knows what they are doing!
Started with the XDS 3.3, changed up to the 4.0 as it is more controllable and accurate. I have lived with the 4.0 as a daily carry for several years, quite comfortable to my XXL hands. Love my 1911's, but the reduction in weight is more appreciated at the end of the day. Retired military SOG, Enhanced CCW licenced. Lifetime NRA member...VFW/DAV.
I just purchased mine today which is October 2023. I got it for $475 out the door. But it’s crazy because I was aware of the chamber indicator and the and the indicator on top on the XDS but on this Mod two it does not have it but on yours, you’re saying it does have the indicators for being loaded and having a round in the chamber. And I did not come with the hard box. It only came with just the two round magazines a five round magazine, and a six round magazine.
I have to admit I was worried when you stated this would be short yet 10 minutes long. To my surprise, You did a GREAT JOB, very quickly and thoroughly matching the two of my favorite firearms, I didn’t notice the time at all. PLEASE share your secret with everyone who posts video as I’m sure I’ve skipped great info due to the host’s inability to plan and move through the information. BRAVO
A XDs 3.3 Mod2 OSP .45acp owner here. This pistol replaced my old Sig P250SC striker fired 9mm that started to fail to lock back the slide on last round so I needed a replacement but wanted .45acp big bore firepower in a micro compact CCW pistol. This XDs 3.3 Mod2 is an excellent pistol for the job, I have all kinds of pistols for the multitude of other tasks such as home defense which has my SA XDm 4.5 9mm that carries 19+1 rounds at the ready and my MCK G21SF PDW .45ACP.
Got myself an Xds 4.0 in 9mm yesterday for 350$ and i think it was a steal 💪 the original Xds also looks better imo. And the grip fits my hand like a glove, no reason for me to try the mod 2.
During the Labor Day weekend I was able to to purchase the mod 2 and absolutely thrilled with the gun. I have shot the original and mod 2 earlier this year and yes there is a differences in recoil. Mod two does a better job on The Recoil especially on the grip.

I don't understand why people cry about the "gripzone" being on the grip. At least it doesn't say "needledick" or "pussybitch" on it. Grip zone makes sense and no one even sees it when it's in your hand.
The XDS is better looking but the XDS mod 2 has a better grip. My girlfriend and I have both. I’d say the mod 2 is about 5% better in every category except grip. The grip is much better. That being said I also like the grip of the XDS.

Corey the XDs is not a smooth shooting gun by any means I would not recommend it to beginners who flinch and don’t have good trigger control even the 9mm. It’s reliable I’ve had it for 3 years now some mag issues but not firearm related.
Corey my girlfriend cannot handle the 3.3 9mm she flinches very bad and she does very well with full sized handguns Bc they naturally shoot smoother so 🤷♂️
An odd discrepancy between your experience and mine. I got a XDS with the 3.3 inch barrel in 45 ACP within a few months of the handgun's initial release in 2012. The gearbox that came with my XDS 45 is the same size as the gearbox for my first generation XDM. It came with the Springfield OTB paddle holster and OTB dual mag carrier. The grip has been modified, my XDS is still running on original parts.
Does anyone know if an XDS mod 2 barrel can work safely in a regular XDS? Ive found a threaded barrel for an XDS mod 2, and was hoping it would fit my regular XDS .45
@marksmantv did you try taking the sleeves off of the extended magazines and checking fit that way? Are they close enough to use the same kydex holsters?
I love 45ACP, sweet back shock, but it's always the same trouble, short magasins, 6 or 7 rounds. 9 for Glock, if I remember. If I make a mistake, please tell me.
I saw someone had asked it and didn’t get an answer, so I’m going to ask again in hopes that someone sees it. Are the frames and slides interchangeable between the first gen and the mod 2’s? I have a XDS 4.0 first gen and would love to put that slide assembly on a mod 2 frame. But I have to admit, I really don’t feel like buying a mod 2 just to find out it doesn’t work...
I have to go with the original XDS. I was at my gun range I tried both of them I thoroughly enjoyed both of them right now price wise I have to go with the original XDS.
I think my most favorite thing about my XDS (my daily carry) is just the sheer amount of rounds I've out thru the thing without a single issue, Ever. I laugh when I think back on how at 19, I thought I was Billy Badass cuz I had myself a HiPoint😆 Thing would jam so often is was borderline outrageous! Lol The 3.3" is absolutely perfect, for me. I love how compact it is, and that with the holster I carry it in, I'm able to get to it extremely quick. With it so small, it feels like you could get a cpl good shots off, even if you and the other WERE that close. Just my 2 cents. I've been sold on it for a while, and its never let me down. I don't think I could find the kind of trust i have in it, if I carried something differently. (As a daily)
Have both versions of the gun. Would I do it again. F no. I've always been a SA fan and have owned so many. But I hate the triggers on the xds. Even with a precion river spring AND sear kit.
My edc is my iPhone 11 Pro black in my front right pocket, my wallet is a dango tactical wallet with a 12 use multi tool in my back right pocket, and I have a keysmart key organizer it holds 5 keys onruger my belt loop and I also carry a lcp 2 in 380 in my front right pocket
Hello I just bought new xds and I think they gave me the crimson trace for the first model watched a few videos and seems like iim not having any luck matching up fit almost looks to big for new one
Recoil is pretty heavy. It takes considerable effort to reset back to target. That being said, once you get used to the recoil its still pretty violent. LOL
You said that the flush magazines are interchangeable with the flat base plate, that being said would a after market mag extender for the XDS work on the XDS MOD.2?
Just purchased 2 of these in 9mm. From gun shop straight to shooting area. BOTH GUNS SUCK! I loved that I hit what I aimed for, and it felt good in my hand, and the end of the good news. Don’t conceal carry this gun! Both guns brand new! Attempted to shoot with both 7 and 9 round clips. First thing I noticed was the excessive burr on the lips of the clips, bad finish work! Then we attempted to fire. Neither one of them would feed the next round. Wouldn’t even discharge spent case, slide moved far enough back to cock but would not load next round. Went through 30 rounds in both guns hand feeding. Never would load on its own. I quit shooting when I couldn’t even rack the slide and bring up a round by hand. Also at the end I couldn’t even rack another round in! Then the mag ejector stoped working and the ejection button hung free no spring pressure. Also wouldn’t even hold the mag in. Trading for glocks. Untrustworthy firearms.
@ beachcabin12 Cool Story, but I don't believe you! I'm sure you did something to cause these alleged malfunctions. Novices should read the manual before attempting to use or disassemble/ reassemble a firearm! Clearly you are a novice and require some knowledge of firearms before handling. To help educate you just in terminology neither the XDS or Glock use "clips" they are magazine's! Your term discharge spent cases is incorrect also! Spent cases are extracted. The XDS both in 9 mm and .45 A.C.P. function just fine and similar to your next choice Glock. Before you hurt yourself or someone nearby, I suggest you Read the Manual and or get some training before you handle any firearm. It is your responsibility to handle a firearm in a safe manor and if you have any questions, no question is to Stupid to ask, but it's Stupid if you don't ask!
Anyone with issues with their gen1 mags not sitting flush? Mine all have a several mm gap from the bottom of the handle/frame, and it's especially noticable with the extended mag I got for free when they did the recall work.
Has anyone compared the internals of the xD vs xds? I have and if Sprinfield would make a full size double stack like the xds I'd own one. The XD has a chunky Center frame rail that is still in the back is plastic. That is one reason why it has a high bore axis. Also it is single action and the way in which the trigger works. The XDS has steel front and rear slide rails and the trigger Works more like a Glock partially cocked and slowly dropping
A little late but was wondering if anyone knows if I can swap out the slide/barrel on my new xds 9mm mod 2 osp with the original slide and barrel combo from the original xds. My new osp has sights that suck, I much prefer the sights on the original. Thanks

In The Before Times I got an XDs, 5 mags, and a lower half from PSA for like $425 home. That shit ain't happening ever again!
I have to go with the original XDS. I was at my gun range I tried both of them I thoroughly enjoyed both of them right now price wise I have to go with the original XDS.
If I "upgrade" to the Mod 2, hopefully I can use the same holsters I have?
You can I have both guns and they use the same holster
I think my most favorite thing about my XDS (my daily carry) is just the sheer amount of rounds I've out thru the thing without a single issue,
Ever.
I laugh when I think back on how at 19, I thought I was Billy Badass cuz I had myself a HiPoint😆
Thing would jam so often is was borderline outrageous! Lol
The 3.3" is absolutely perfect, for me.
Because of the chamber indicator on the Mod 1, am I correct that there isn’t enough room on the slide for a red dot?
Nothing says stopping power like a .45 acp... would this be ok for conceal carry? Or do you think it's too big?
this is more than adequate for edc.
They need to release the 9mm version.
I'm sure the mod 2 feels 50percent better at the grip.
NeeFMandO cuz it says grip zone I bet.
I like my MOD1. I even think it looks better than the MOD 2.
Any man crying about the grip feel should carry pepper spray and not a hand gun. 😂😂😂
i dumped my xds 45 when i realized the palm safety BARELY worked. question: can you mount an optic on the original?
Hello I just bought new xds and I think they gave me the crimson trace for the first model watched a few videos and seems like iim not having any luck matching up fit almost looks to big for new one
You shouldn't be allowed to possess a firearm. You can't even type proper sentences, with proper punctuation.
Thanks for the video, mod 2 seems the way to go.
How is the recoil in a 45 in that small lite frame ?.
Operator error....hahahahaha
The pinky extension....not the base plate is the reason why the mag will not fit. Think you might have miss spoke.
I have both and i like the mod 1 grip alot better.......and the looks too....
Are the xds 9 and mod 2 9 the same size/dimensions? Trying to figure it out for holster purchase.
Interesting that the mod 2 comes in the same style case as my original XDs that I bought the month they were released.
Anyone with issues with their gen1 mags not sitting flush? Mine all have a several mm gap from the bottom of the handle/frame, and it's especially noticable with the extended mag I got for free when they did the recall work.
Thats weird my XDS mod 1 has the big box. Or I should say "HAD" I hated that thing. Those checkered grips were HORRIBLE. The mod 2 looks enticing !
For sure, The checkered grips can be very abrasive when shooting for any extended time at the range!
I put a Talon grip on my original XDS 45 and it fixed the abrasion issue.
I have kydex holster for XDS, can you help you do a unboxing video.
Are kydex or any other solid type holster interchangeable with the Mod 2?
If I were to get the shapeshift kit for the XDS mod 1 will it fit the mod 2?
I just bought the shape shift for the xds 3.3 and it works just fine with the the xds mod 2
Has Springfield announced a 9mm XDS Mod. 2? I love the way my double stack grip feels, but always carry the s.
Rod Himelick I believe it just came out this month
Should show the sight pic of the mod pistol.
The XDE is too bulky and heavier Ill stay with my XDS
Has the jamming issue been corrected with the Mod 2 3.3 XD-S acp. 45 ??? ...the original acp .45 xd-s is junk!.... I replaced it with a GLOCK 30 Gen 4
Will the Mod 2 Slide fit and function on the original "mod 1" frame?
Will the XDS Mod 2 come with a stainless steel slide soon?
Question can I put an xds mod two extended clip in the xds 3.3 45mm?
So the mod 2 is the way to go?
Does it have the dummy pin that sticks out the back after its racked ? Like the xdm?
With the Hellcat dominating I wonder if the XDS will soon be phased out....
@Evan Moyer Very good point! I had not even thought about the .45 XDS. They'll probably keep whatever sells.
Do they both use the same holster
Magazines from mod 1 don't work in mod 2s. The spacers get in the way. Will work without the spacers.
He covered that
Just picked up an XDS Mod2 3.3 .45 does it fit regular XDS 3.3 holsters? Apart from the 0.2 inch length difference I don’t see why it wouldn’t.
If the holster is a pass through it will. I doubt there kydek will
I’d like to buy an XDE in .45 and an XDS in 9mm as a bug. Milt Sparks must be smiling in heaven.
I want a 4 inch 45 mod 2
I just got rid of that
It's a good one
Paris Gill I emailed Springfield to ask if they are going to make a mod 2 version with a 4 inch barrel and they said no
Test Test I had the XD mod 2 in 45 acp with a 4 in barrel it's the service model
Paris Gill the xds mod 2 won’t be made in 4 inch barrel per the guy I emailed
I got the XD mod.2 9mm 4" barrell
Will the kydex holsters be the same fit?
Question: can you shoot hollow points out of this pistol ? Thanks
Yes definitely. I never shot hollows out of mine but you definitely can.
Do you know if the mod 2 and the original will fit in the same kydex holster?
I don't know about kydex holsters but I have the mod 2 and it fit the shapeshift holster from alien gear for the xds 3.3...hope this helps you out
Mod 2 grip feels much better to me. Not so aggressive. Mod 1 kinda hurts after about 150 rounds Think it’s time for a trade :-)).
A little late but was wondering if anyone knows if I can swap out the slide/barrel on my new xds 9mm mod 2 osp with the original slide and barrel combo from the original xds. My new osp has sights that suck, I much prefer the sights on the original. Thanks
