Bro I did the exact same thing. First pistol xds mod 2 45. years later with a ccl and I still have it on me everyday. Great reliable gun, eats everything you throw in it.
Great job on the review. Couldn't agree with you more on the XDS. My first was the Gen 1 in 9MM with the grenade grip and I really liked it. I liked it enough to buy a Mod 2 in 40S&W (45 was not available) about a week before this madness started and it is now my EDC. I swap out with the 9 occasionally but I'm liking the feel of the 40 more every day. They are great guns and a joy to shoot.
Very serious, cogent and informed review. I carried a Sig P220 (an original made in W/Germany) for 20 years, and loved that pistol, shooting Master at each qualification. At retirement I went to my old reliable .38 Colt Det Spl. - but weight and bulk bothered me. After much research I bought the Springfield XD-2 .45acp. Could not be happier - here's a bonus - I have my old Mitch Rosen holsters for my Sig P220 & the Springfield fits like they were made for it. Livin the dream - avoid trouble - practice often and pet your dog.
I love the XDs 45 and it’s my EDC. I have XL size hands and this is the only small gun that I can get a full grip on. I pair this with a Tulster Neomag and a spare magazine in my pocket.
Another well built firearm from Springfield Armor, that has gone through an updated process. Without losing it's quality of reliable and accuracy. I have found the Springfield products line of sidearms to be some of the best in the marketplace, for price, value, reliable ,quality of service. If there is an issue, their customers service department are more than willing to make it right. They will fix what ever issue that may from time to time creep up for their customers. I have own many of their products and found this to be so, from what few issues I have had in the past with a firearm. Well just an old guys opinion here people and rant it seems. Stay strong , shoot clean, and take a kid shooting make sure to teach them the proper way of handling firearms and their rules of safety. God Bless stay safe people.
I've been shooting the 45acp for 40 years now + I also have a 9mm ! The 45 has always been my go to !!! And now with the XDS Mod 2 it's the best of both worlds 😊
One of the things I wish you would have mentioned is the firing pin safety catch. It's a passive safety feature that is surprisingly still not present in a lot of hand guns. With the safety catch I would go so far as to say it is virtually impossible for the gun to have a mechanical failure and accidentally discharge on a hot tube. There are so many things that not only have to fail, but have to fail in a specific way and in a specific order for a discharge to occur via mechanical failure. So you can carry it hot confidently and not worry about putting a hole through your leg or obliterate your future kids. The rest is left up to the user's competence.
Just bought a Mod 2 in 45. Already had one in XDS non mod 2. Found the sleeve issue right away. A little adjusting to the sleeve with a Dremel and they work.
I have a SA XDM.The XDS has a lot of the same features as the XDM. I just purchased a XDS for concealed carry. I’m and old school Army guy. I use the slide release lever. It’s way faster to send the upper receiver back into battery. There is a lot of range theatrics on UA-cam. A bunch of silly stuff that looks good but takes more time. But that’s the end of my rant on that. Fantastic review. Thanks for sharing.
I just brought this pistol for my daughter & it came with a laser sight. The sales guy asked my daughter, "isn't a .45 a little big for u to be shooting"? My daughter replied, "I've be shooting my Dad's Ruger P90 .45 since I was 14 years old". We all got a good laugh with that being said. Great gun & so far so good.
Great review thank you for all the comparisons with the original XDs. Picking up my XDs 45 Mod 2 next weekend. Was lucky enough to find one with the Gear Up package so 1 x 5 and 4 x 6 round mags are included along with the range bag.
Love my XD's. I have 4" 9, 40 and the rare 45 with the lever safety. I have the old 9mm and 40mm in sub and just purchased the XDs M2 for my EDC. Sub 40 is just to thick and heavy for EDC and this small 45 fits my big paws just perfect.
I am currently on a background check delay for that exact gun I wanted the 9 but can’t find it so I’m settling do you know if there’s any extended mags for the .40 and a if so what is the max capacity you know of the guys at the gun store told me it only held 7 or something like that
Great Video. I’m getting ready to acquire one. I was on Springfield’s website and saw that they sell a 10 round mag for this. I’m sure it’s extended like the 6 round mag but must also be double-stacked to accommodate the 4 extra rounds. Can this gun (that is engineered for a single stack mag) use a double stacked mag? Or would additional gunsmithing be required? Thanks for your time. Matt.
Originally I bought an XDs45 3.3. It was too much to control so I traded it on an XDs9 3.3 Mod2. It cam with 7 and 9 round magazine. The 7 was too short and the 9 too long. SA had a sale on the 8 round magazine so I bought 3. I also bought three pinky finger extensions which the 7 round magazine comes with. Now the XDs fits perfectly in my hands and is much easier to control than the XDs 45. I love the 45 which is why I have three 1911s. But to pack one in a small frame isn't the best way for me to carry.
Bought two at a great price (great price nowadays at least). One for the pocket and one for the GF if/when she decides to carry. I’m replacing my LC9s with more firepower.
Very informative Sir! Thank You for the comparison & insight. I own a XD9-TACTICAL, use that for my guard duty gun. It has never malfunctioned. (1500+ rounds fired through it of many different types) Great to hear that I can trust moving up to an XD chambered in .45.
I just got mine 22 MAY 2020 for the grand total of $521.21 and mine has a Tritium Front Sight... however there are no White Dots on the rear sight, just horizontal serrations to reduce any reflected light.
I recently purchased my Springfield XDSMOD2 and 45 ACP. I paid $475 out the door. Mine came with a magazine that carries five rounds and a magazine that carries six rounds. Also, the MOD two does not have the striker indicator or the round indicator And mine just came with a simple box and the two magazines. Nothing fancy I was wanting to know how I did on the price.
I've carried daily the 45 md2 for years now. Fits snug, weight is minimal, compact form for a knock down punch. Ammo with concealed mag is very limited. Be precise, the gun will be.
I have the first generation XDS 4.0 9mm. I love it. The Mod 2 doesn’t fit well in my hand. It’s too big. If it had interchangeable back straps like the first gen, I would have considered it.
Hello. I have 2 of those XDs 45 Mod 2.2 and I like them very much. One is exactly like the one you have on this video and the other is a later model with a removable plate for a red dot. Which is where my question comes about. What mounting plate can I purchase from you (I live next door in HH by Tipp) for the one that is just a dovetail mount. I have a few red dots- SS Romeo1 (SOR11000), Deltapoint Pro (119688), and a Venom (VDM-3103). And which (If any) will fit the one with the removable plate? Thank you P.S. I do own a Wheeler Armorer's Handgun Sight tool. And various punch tool kits and gunsmith hammer sets. And a RA master gun vise.
I'm left handed and still like to have the ambi slide lock lever in case I get a type 3 malfunction where I need to use the slide lock lever when clearing the jam. That's why I like the Sig P320 and P250 or the gen 5 glocks.
I'm a South Paw as well but since I first started shooting Semi-automatic Firearms many Decades ago (both Hand-gun and Long-gun) I have learned to adapt. I've got the XDs 45-ACP and have no problem releasing the Slide. Train your thumb and you shall succeed!👍

My 1st pistol ever was this very pistol. I absolutely love it. don’t regret going straight to .45 from no pistol at all.
